The unofficial symbol of Hue, Thien Mu Pagoda, was built in 1601 and stands gracefully on the northern bank of the Perfume River. This iconic religious site is deeply woven into local folklore, legends, and folk rhymes, making it a must-visit landmark for understanding Hue’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
Explore the former seat of power of the Nguyen Dynasty, Vietnam’s last royal family, at the magnificent Hue Imperial City, constructed in 1804. Enclosed within a vast 2-square-kilometer fortress surrounded by defensive moats, this UNESCO World Heritage Site invites you to step back in time. Stroll through a complex network of palaces, gates, courtyards, and ceremonial halls, each designed under strict imperial rules reserved exclusively for the emperor and royal court. As you walk through this intricately planned citadel, discover stories of royal life, ancient traditions, and the political heart of imperial Vietnam. A visit to the Hue Imperial City offers a deep insight into Vietnam’s royal history, architectural mastery, and cultural legacy.
Visit Dong Ba Market, the most famous and lively local market in Hue, where the city’s daily life truly comes alive. Wander through bustling aisles filled with fresh produce, local spices, traditional snacks, and handmade goods while observing how locals shop, trade, and interact. This vibrant market offers an authentic glimpse into Hue’s culture and traditions, making it an ideal place to experience local flavors, street food culture, and everyday rhythms away from tourist crowds. A visit to Dong Ba Market connects you directly with the heart of Hue’s community.
A striking fusion of Eastern and Western architectural styles, Khai Dinh Tomb was constructed between 1920 and 1931 and stands as one of the most elaborate royal tombs in Vietnam. Admire its dramatic design, intricate mosaics, and lavish details, funded in part by a controversial nationwide tax increase of 30%, reflecting both the ambition and legacy of the Nguyen Dynasty’s final emperors.
Discover the majestic Minh Mang Tomb, a masterpiece of imperial architecture planned and constructed over two decades between 1820 and 1840. Wander through its harmonious layout of pavilions, lakes, and gardens, ascend to the upper levels, and uncover the fascinating stories behind one of Vietnam’s most respected Nguyen emperors.
At Thuy Xuan Incense Village, travelers will discover a traditional craft village famous for its vibrant incense sticks. Watch local families hand-make incense using age-old techniques, learn about the cultural and spiritual significance of incense in Vietnamese life, and enjoy colorful photo opportunities along the village streets.

This was such a great tour! We visited a broad range of culturally and historically significant places in Hue and the lunch was incredible! Our guide was informative and knowledgeable and able to answer all our questions. Definitely book it!
Ben the tour guide was amazing and very knowledgeable of history in Vietnam. He was kind to all onboard and considerate. The tour, lunch and footbath were amazing. Thank you Ben our tour guide.
We are a family with 2 young kids, so appreciate the understanding and accommodating guide and driver who kept our kids engaged throughout the tour. The guide speaks very fluent English and communicate clearly.
Excellent guide, friendly.he provided US with a lot of historical information. Small groups, food lunch
We really enjoyed this experience which was organised and orchestrated brilliantly. Hoa was a great guide who was knowledgeable and approachable. Food at lunchtime was tasty and the sights were generally memorable. The only exceptions were the Dragon Boat ride (not a lot to see on the river) and the market visit which didn't really add much to the experience.
Our Guide Hoa did a fantastic job at showing us the graves of the emperors as well as the imperial city! We loved the mosaics. Greetings from Sonia & Tobias from Austria!!!
Loc was an exemplary driver Knowledgeable, friendly and hospitable Spoke vey good English Highly recommend using him
Tom was very polite and great guide! Very knowlagable of vietnam history! Very Patient! And soeaks great english! Thanks Tom for an amazing tour! Very compleat and organized! The deiver was great to!
Awesome was to see many of the sights and get context to all the beautiful culture and historical places in and around Hue. Our guide Yang was great - very knowledgeable and fun to travel the sites with. Highly recommended!
We visited the most important historical sites of Hue, such as the Imperial Citadel, Thien Mu Pagoda and the tombs of Minh Mang and Khai Dinh. Our guide Yang knows a lot about the history of Vietnam. We also had a short visit on the Dong Ba market. Lunch was at Mme Thu . The food there was excellent. Highly recommended.
Got to see all of the sites in one day on a comfortable little bus. Yang (our English speaking guide) was great with a good knowledge of the buildings and history.
Very interesting and nice trip! Guide and driver were excellent, English language was very good and knowledge was impressive. Lunch was great. I will recommend this tour
I can only recommend this tour of the city of Hue and its surroundings: Yang was an excellent guide to the main sites of the imperial city and some hidden gems, with good communication in English and always available for advice. We visited the Citadel, the nearby market (very interesting!), a wonderful pagoda, the incense village and two tombs of former kings of Vietnam. Lunch included in the city center with good food and a foot massage at the end of it.
We had such a great day! All the beautiful sites you want to visit, are covered in this tour. The lunch at madam thu was really good and the footbath was so relaxing! What the tour extra special made, was our tour guide Minh Tam. She can tell you so many stories and background information in an inspirational way that Minh Tam was the icing on the cake🥰 you can’t have a greater person with you than her! Thank you Minh Tam for being our guide and friend at the same time.
The citadel was amazing. Our guide gave us plenty of information about everything. The lunch stop was very enjoyable with a good selection of food which was delicious. Every detail taken care off.
We had a lovely day , I seriously recommend this trip , from start to finish it was fantastic , Hue is a lovely city I can’t thank viator enough, this company has exceeded all our expectations
Wonderful day in Hue with very complete planning and a very professional guide that is passionate about the city. Logistics really well organised. Old city and temples visit very worth it. Lunch at a very fancy and nice place. Everything went really smoothly and high recommendable.
A great mix of sights and activities, with an unhurried pace. Tour guide Mr Ling was exceptional, and knowledgeable. A great day.
We had limited time in Hue and this tour was absolutely perfect. We did the tour with Binh and he was incredible - he was extremely knowledgeable of all this history and was able to answer all our questions. I finished this tour genuinely having learnt so much about Vietnamese culture and history because of his excellent teaching. The place we stopped at for lunch was also delicious! Would definitely recommend!
The tour was fantastic and well balanced with a mixture of sites and experiences. The guide Bobby and our driver were perfect, friendly and professional. The lunch and extra surprise made the day much more pleasant than expected. This tour cannot be topped thankyou for an AMAZING day.
The visits to the historical sites and friendly group made this a memoroable trip.. The guide was very knoweldgeable, being a local resident of the city, you could see his passion and he was fully invested. The transporation could have been a bit more modern, but it was not too bade. Overall an enjoyable trip !
Binh was a great guide. Picked us up from our hotel. Lovely dragonboat ride along the river. Good info at each stop. Lunch was tasty. It was just way too hot. We tapped out after lunch as our 5yo couldn’t take the walking around in the heat. Not the tour guide’s fault. Would recommend at 10°c cooler.
If you have an interest in art, history or architecture, then this trip is for you! We started our day with a dragon boat along the river. Then we visited the Pagoda of the Heavenly lady where monks live and worship. After that, we visited the imperial city, which was gorgeous and we learned about past emperors of the Ngyuen dynasty. We took a break for lunch at Madam Thu 2 and the food was plentiful and delicious. Following that, we visited two breathtaking tombs of former emperors. The tomb of Khai Dinh was probably one of the most beautiful and ornate structures we have ever seen. Just before we headed back to the hotel, we got a got a chance to roll an incense stick which was a lot of fun. Our tour guide Bình was excellent - so friendly, knowledgeable, attentive and willing to answer all of our questions. It is a long day, but a very worthwhile one. We never would have seen as much or learned as much if we hadn’t gone on this tour. Highly recommend.
This was a strange tour experience. It was certainly small group with 7 people, but 4 of those people only spoke Vietnamese and it was not advertised as a multi language tour. I'm quiet so it was OK for me that the group didn't speak to each other but many people take group tours to bond with other people and would have been disappointed in my tour group. I also don't know what was deluxe about the tour. We rode in a crossover suv and only fit because there was a young boy on tour who sat on someone's lap. It was very unexpected. The tour went to nice places as advertised and I enjoyed what I saw, but it was unlike any tour I've experienced for the reasons above.
This way a great way to see the major highlights of Hue in a limited amount of time. The group size was perfect.
I would recommend this tour especially if you do not have enough time. This your was like Hue in a nutshell and hit all the must see in Hue. Hue is truly a magical place especially the imperial citadel. Would have loved to spend more time exploring the nook and crannies but again, but again, time is limited. I also liked visiting the two tombs which the style was so different from each other and makes you appreciate their distinctiveness more. Despite being in a group, we didn't feel rushed or uncomfortable. Binh spoke English fluently and is a fountain of information. This is what we came to Hue for. Maybe my only suggestion will be to buy the tickets beforehand. We did go during the Veitnam holidays and the imperial city was packed and the ticket line was truly long. We just spent time taking pictures in the front while we waited for our tickets. Aside from this little issue, Binh was very positive and we were able to forget that and focus on the splendor before us. Highly recommended
We had an excellent day out touring the royal tombs, pagodas, and Thanh Toàn bridge in Hue with James (Tien). James was an excellent and safe driver, spoke good English, and was very punctual. Highly recommended.
We booked a full-day small group tour with VM Travel and visited all the main sights in Hue. Lunch was included and more than enough food. The free foot spa felt especially great after a long walk at the Imperial City. I found Ms. Ngan, the tour agent, to be accommodating and easy to communicate with. All in all, they delivered everything as promised and we enjoyed it. Highly recommend this company.
Wonderful look at Hue and it's history. Our guide was delightful and knowledgeable. The lunch was incredible and much more than we expected. We would recommend this experience to anyone wanting an overview of Hue
Excellent tour to see all the tombs and get all the history from a very knowledgeable guide. Transportation was excellent.
This was a great tour! Very informative. Our guide spoke good English and the tour was very well-organized. The van was quite nice as well. We had a VERY full day, saw lots of sites. Wear comfortable and sturdy footwear, as there are a lot of steps to climb. Enjoyed the tour, and could NEVER have managed to see so much on my own.
This tour included all the sites I wanted to see in Hue. The tour guide was very nice and told a lot of stories about the history of Hue and significance of the sites. The booking office was easy to communicate with and helped arrange a transfer for us to the airport after the tour. However, I wished there was free time available at each site so we can take photos freely instead of as we are walking by something. I think we spent too much time for lunch and more time for people to soak their feet after lunch. Also we stopped by the incense store after lunch that was unnecessary.
Unfortunately due to Covid we were the only people on this tour, but that meant we could take things at our own pace. The places we visited were stunning, and although the weather wasn't great, we got some wonderful photos. Highly recommend this for a day of full immersion.
My partner and I went on a small group tour of Hue as we only had a short stay in Hue. We were picked up from our accommodation in a comfortable mini bus. During the tour we visited Thành Toan Bridge, the tombs of Emperor’s Minh Mang and Khai Dinh, the Imperial Citadel, Thien Mu Pagoda and we enjoyed a dragon boat ride along the Perfume River. Each place we visited was very interesting- our guide was very knowledgeable about each location and we felt like we learned a lot about each place. We didn’t feel rushed - we had time to explore and take photos which was appreciated. We were also provided with a delicious lunch which the whole group seemed to enjoy. We would recommend this tour to anyone who is in Hue for a short time and wants to be able to visit the main sights in one day.
tour guide was friendly and informed during time in van it was impossible to hear his comments over noise of air conditioning fans.
Goggled Hue city tour at breakfast 7.am and found VM Travel, after a web chat to find out what we wanted, Johnny our driver and Tien our guide picked us up at 9am same day! They gave us a great tour! Very knowledgable, no rush, very friendly, highly recommend. Thank you
After arriving in Hue me and my friends were at a loss of what to do as we only had one day there and the attractions are miles apart. Then after a chance meeting with Sam from VM Travels he organised a brilliant city tour for us with our own driver and guide. The guide was very informative while still being fun and was so attentive to our needs. Would recommend VM Travels for whatever you need!
I have done Hue , Ha Long bay and Ninh Binh tours with VM Travels and I'm very much surprised by the quality of their services , they are very customer friendly and responsive .Booking of Tours was so hassle free and a special thanks to Pansy from VM Travels who always suggested me best Travel Packages and offered best prices, and coming to the Tour Guides I bet they only employ the best ones. I really enjoyed every moment of y travel with VM Travel. Looking forward to use their services again.
We asked our hotel staff (Hotel Saigon Morin) if they could book a city tour of Hue for the following day as we had arrived on a late flight from HCMC. They had organised a small group tour within the hour with VM Travel. We were picked up at 8.15 am Sunday morning from our hotel by Binh (Bobby) our Guide and after a few more pick-ups we were off to explore the surrounds of Hue. The first stop was Thanh Toan Bridge (Tile-roofed bridge)- an arched wooden bridge built in the 17th century then a short walk to the local village market which was a hive of activity and so interesting. We explored a number of tombs from the various royal rulers through out the morning, and with Binh's expert knowledge and great way of telling stories we were able to appreciate the personality of each ruler, and the landscape and architecture of each tomb. Lunch was included back in Hue at Madam Thu, the food being very fresh and delicious. This set us up for an afternoon exploring the Citadel and Thein Mu Pagoda in the afternoon before we hopped on a boat to cruise down the Perfume River. It was such a full and fascinating day and a great way to explore Hue.And Binh had made it all the more special.Thank you.
We toured key sites in Hue today with Binh Nguyen as tour guide and Anthony Mai as driver. Both were excellent! Binh speaks English well and has a great depth of knowledge about the Nguyen dynasty and recent history of Vietnam. Seeing the sites with the historical understanding of Vietnam that Binh provided made it so much more enjoyable to see the Imperial City, Emperor Tombs, Pagoda and famous bridge than if we had toured them on our own. Anthony speaks English also and was a very calm driver, delivering us to each location safely through crazy Hue traffic!
I had booked this tour in August & I was super informed in advance by VM Travel. All questions were answered quickly and well. Now my tour started & since it was overbooked, I got a private tour for me alone with Anthony and Tuan. It was wonderful. So it was possible to answer exactly my questions and wishes. I saw more than offered and in the car with Antjony I felt always in good hands. A very good driver! Tuan as my guide explained everything to me very precisely and was able to answer all my questions. So now I sit here happy & am very happy to have made the tour with VM Travel! Thanks a lot!
The young cast knows a lot. His English pronunciation is very good. That makes him very understandable. The tour is very well organized. The program is interesting and beautiful. Definitely worth it!
I visited Hue with Phuong (or Penny for his English name) in private. Everything was perfect. She was excited to show me her city and the driver was driving safely.
Yang was a great guide. Explained everything in detail, answered every question, very quiet, friendly. Realized very quickly and well the needs and handicaps of each individual tour participant. Was a great day with him!
Today we had a very nice tour through the history of Hue by our guide Minh. Minh could explain everything clearly to us and speaks perfect English, also he has a lot of positive energy and is funny. Highly recommended to do in Hue!
