Amazing place with beautiful scenery, we enjoy a lot, even more with our tour guide Sherlock, who make a fun and enjoyable tour, explain everything about the place and the culture. Itinerary
This tour is a must-see for those who are interested in architectural and ancient civilizations. My Son sanctuary was an important religious center to the Cham Royalty during the Champa civilization that used to exist in the central Vietnam, between the 4th and the 15th centuries. We travel about 50km from Hoi An to My Son sanctuary. This complex comprises many Champa temples and towers, located in a roughly two square kilometer valley. It was the site of religious ceremony of kings of the Champa civilization and was also a burial place of Champa royals and national heroes. The My Son temple complex is one of the foremost temple complexes of Hinduism in South East Asia and is the foremost heritage site of this type in Vietnam. Though the complex has been destroyed over time, war, natural disaster, we still see many majestic ancient ruins of temples in the area.

We were booked on this tour. Our tour guide was incredible. Older generartion but had really incredile stories as was a walking google of information of My Son. From the moment they picked us up. All through the tour the information and knowledge was awesome. Even knows how to really work a smart phone to get awesome photos. Although the weather was perfect. It was extremly hot. Suggest trying to start as early as possible. It was roughly 1 hour drive from our hotel. The organised drinks on arrival was excellent. The food after the tour at the same location was great but to much for our family to eat. Over all you must do this to get a good understanding of the My Son.
Le was our licensed local tour guide and he was incredible! He is knowledgeable about the history and culture of My Son and the Hoi An area. Le explains things very clearly, cracks jokes to keep the conversations lively, and is happy to answer any questions. Also, he cares a lot for his guests: showing us the best spots for photos, offering to take photos of us, timing the tour to avoid large groups of tourists, and always checking to see how we are doing. We are incredibly fortunate to have had Le take care of us and very grateful for all of his knowledge, jokes, photos, and love. Thank you for making our meeting of My Son unforgettable! P.S. Without a guide, My Son can be hard to navigate and understand what you are looking at.
Our guide Quang was wonderful & very knowledgeable on the history of My Son. On his advice we visited early before it was too hot or busy and viewed the site without a crowd. The history of the Cham people & construction of buildings was very interesting. Throughly recommend tours with Quang he is on WhatsApp quangbeach1983 Quang +84 90 560 94 43
The tour was fun, My Son sanctuary is definitely a place to visit. We got picked up on time, the lunch was delicious and lovely and then we head to the sanctuary as we chose the afternoon option. The guide was super lovely and accommodating, we found it hard to understand some of what he was telling us in the car but it is how the accent is in most of this part of the country. When we were in the sanctuary itself, it became a lot easier cause there weren’t too many context changes so we understood almost everything. I recommend arriving at the sanctuary around 1:30-2 PM, it will be less crowded than the sunrise or sunset Also do miss on the folklore show! They do them a few times a day, make sure you arrive 15-20 mins earlier to watch the show from a nice seat Also another tip, the best photos you can take are when there is a show running cause 10s of people will be at the show.
Thao To was our main guide, but he had a team around him who all combined to made a wonderful experience. First his driver, who safely drove us first to Thao's home for lunch, then to My Son, then back to our hotel. Second, Thao's wife, sister and family, who created a delicious spread of Vietnamese food for us for lunch. (I am going to dream about that morning glory with garlic for months!) Quick mention of the tiny kitten, who gave us a little cat cuddle in-between playing with whatever it could find - leaves, shadows, my bag, etc. So before we ever even reached My Son, we had already had a lovely lunch experience and chat with local people. When we got to My Son, it was clear that Thao was really knowledgeable about the area and the Cham culture. He told us all about the My Son complex's history, architecture, restoration, war damage, and even knew the best angles to take photographs from. Although we didn't have the best weather, we still had an enjoyable tour. I was pleasantly surprised by the Cham cultural display, I hadn't expected it to be so close to Indian dancing.
Would highly recommend this tour! The guide was very informative (both about My Son and Vietnamese life in general), and enjoyable to be around. I felt like we had enough time to see everything I wanted to. The lunch afterwards was possibly the best meal I had in Vietnam. He went above and beyond including helping me with a few things outside the tour too. Overall very happy with my experience!
Thao guided this tour for my husband and I and our 7 month old baby. He worked at My Son for 8 years so you can't find anyone more experienced and knowledgeable than him! His level of English is excellent, the best of any tour guides we had in Southeast Asia, and he is a good conversationalist and spoke to us about many aspects of life in Vietnam, not just the information about My Son. The site is very beautiful and interesting, and Thao is full of facts that bring it to life. His wife prepared an amazing lunch for us with seafood for my husband and vegetarian options for me. We would highly recommend this tour!
Fantastic tour by a great family working together to bring it to live. The husband is the guide while his wife prepares a wonderful Vietnamese lunch. A truly great experience.
So glad I found out about the 6am tour. We had the whole sanctuary to ourselves. Very beautiful and peaceful. Our guide - Thao grew up around the area and we got to see his home and meet his family. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us
Thao was great! He is very knowledgeable and tells a lot about Vietnamese culture, politics and so much more from insider's point of view! We are glad we get to visit the My Son sanctuary and it was definitely worth time and money! You're expected to walk and it's humid there, so be prepared! :) Thao took us to the local restaurant after the tour that is owned by his wife, and it was one of the best home cooked Vietnamese meal we've ever had! Thanks to this experience, we get to see the small village of his town and this was such a cool experience! Thank you again to Thao and his family!
Thao To My Son Sanctuary Private Tour was quite fun & educational by knowledgable guide Thao. My wife & I learnt about the ancient Champ civilisation, culture, ancestral beliefs and the progression into Hinduism thru subsequent kingdoms & their demise. Interesting indeed! We felt comfortable with Thao & enjoyed his local guide knowledge and friendliness that we engaged him also for private Da Nang tour visiting Bana Hills and Marble Mountain. His wife Hwa was the superb driver in their private car for the Da Nang tour finishing with fantastic fresh live seafood dinner with four of us at Be Man Seafood Restaurant along Da Nang beach recommended by Thao. Thank you Thao and Hwa. We are lucky to have met you both. Hope we would meet again someday someplace.
What an amazing tour! We loved everything about the day and our guide Thạo Tô was just perfect. Very knowledgeable, enjoyable and welcoming. After our tour of My Son, we had a delicious lunch prepared by his family on their property. It was one of our favorite meals! What a great day - highly recommend this tour and booking with Thạo Tô.
Could not recommend this tour enough! Thank you to our wonderful guide Thao, he was so friendly and knowledgeable. The food we had at the end of the trip was the best we’ve had in Vietnam! The whole experience was amazing!
Firstly I want to thank Duyen and Hoa for their kindness during my time of need (gastro). Duyen even dropped by her place on the way to My Son so I could get to a WC as soon as possible! Things got better after that for me and I am very glad I went. Duyen and Hoa are locals and are passionate about the history and culture of the Champa people. Very informative. Hoa prepared local food for lunch, which was also very interesting, tasty and relaxing. Highly recommended.
I had a private morning tour with Thao as a guide. He was kind, good humoured and professional throughout the tour- picking up an iced coffee for me on the way, walking to get me some shoes from the sanctuary store when one of my sandals broke(!) and all the while providing many interesting insights into the site's history. It's an impressive site with much detail, and I know that without a guide, I wouldn't have been able to appreciate it fully. What was particularly interesting for me was the way the site represents different layers of history- some of the structures have bullet holes from when the Viet Cong used it as a base, and there are bomb craters scattered across the site. Because Thao is from the area, he was also able to bring the place to life, hearing his personal anecdotes about his family's relationship to the site and the wider local history. I also really enjoyed the breakfast/lunch after walking around- delicious vegetarian (at my request) noodles followed up with some fruit from the family garden. I was always consulted on the food options, so I'm sure Thao would accommodate any preferences!
Perfect transportation, guide with a very good English and nice Vietnamese cuisine. Best recommendationss
Thao was very accommodating to our needs from the start - we had a well-planned set lunch menu suitable to our dietary requirements and we were also able to organise with Thao last minute to start our tour later in the day for my friend who was unwell the night before. In the lead up to the tour, Thao was very responsive when messaging us. Thao spoke fluent English (even cracking some jokes at times!), took great photos for us and was overall great company. He was very knowledgeable and informative about the history, structure and restorations of My Son Sanctuary. Car transfers to and from Hoi An were also very smooth. Thank you Thao!
Thao was a brilliant guide with a passion for his surroundings and heritage. He was informative, accommodating and easy to get along with and I would thoroughly recommend his tour!
Thao is an excellent guide. After our tour, thao took us to an amazing restaurant for a 6 course meal. Highly recommend!!
Hi this was a fantastic tour with our own private guide and pick up from the hotel. Our Guide Thao To was very knowledgeable and had many great stories to tell, he also takes great photographs as well. Would recommend this for anyone
We did a private 7:30am tour with Thao. Very good tour with lots of great information. Thao is very knowledgeable. The tour is about 5 hours total door to door. We were picked up at our hotel at 7:30am by a driver however you can pick a different time. Drive is about an hour. Maybe a little more. Thao was at my son waiting for us as soon as we arrived. From there you take a shuttle to the entrance and begin your tour. The tour was done by about 10:15 and we were having lunch by 10:30am. So if you do this tour, don’t eat breakfast or at least have a very light breakfast because there was so much food just for the two of us. I don’t think we could’ve finished even if we were starving. After “lunch”, we met our driver and returned back to Hoi An. We arrived at our hotel by 12:30pm. We definitely recommend this tour if you are planning to visit my son.
Sherlock and driver Dat tour boy have been very attentive and pleasant, the tour has been very interesting and explains and details the story, the food was 10 in if I liked it very much.
Our guide Sherlock very nice and trim, making the tour very enjoyable. We enjoyed the way back and forth with Dat our driver, who picked us up and took us to our hotel. Highly recommended
