Amazing experience from Hoi An! The bike ride was beautiful and at a pace that matched my abilities (as I’m not a very good cycler) with breaks in the shade to cool off and enjoy the views. The food stops (market, cafe and lunch) were all delicious and well timed for a break. The highlight by far was My Son Sanctuary and having a personal guide to help me understand the historical significance was incredible. Mr Easy was a wonderful guide and also gave heaps of recommendations for where else to go in Hoi An

Hoi An town: Cycling along small and quiet alleyways we reach the riverfront of the historic district, long before crowds descend on the city. It’s a great time for photos. Hoi An Countryside: Crossing the river, we leave the city behind on our way to My Son, venturing off on to rural pathways accessible only to bikes and motorbikes. It's not long before we are pedaling through small villages, past family farms and rice fields, greeting workers along our way. Depending on the season, we pass rice, corn and even sunflower fields as we explore a very different landscape to that of the city. We'll see hardly any four- wheeled vehicles as we through a network of shortcuts and connections that only locals would know. The Cham Ruins of My Son lie ahead.
Crossing the river, we leave the city behind our wheels on our way to My Son, venturing off onto rural pathways accessible only to bikes and motorbikes. It's not long before we are pedaling through small villages, past family farms and rice fields, greeting friendly workers along our way. This is your best opportunity to glimpse authentic Vietnamese life.
After replenishing our energy with a healthy snack of fresh fruit and local coffee or tea, it is a short transfer to the entrance to this UNESCO World Heritage site. New regulations require we park our bikes and board electric shuttle vans to the main ruins.
A drive aboard our private van with a midway stop for a simple but delicious lunch of local noodles tops off a fun, informative half day tour.

This tour is a must do in Hoi An.The scenery was fantastic and the day even better with our guide Hoan, who was friendly, helpful and a gr8 sense of humour. His knowledge of Vietnamese history makes this tour very enjoyable. Special mention to the quality of bikes used on this tour ,comfort, brakes, gears all worked perfectly.
Our guide, Tam, was fantastic. We hadn’t initially realized the tour included a three-hour bike ride, but Tam set us up with high-quality bikes, making the ride smooth and enjoyable. Tam is sweet and kind, comfortable biking quietly so we could take in the scenery, but always ready to share his love for the country and stories if you’re interested. The route itself was easy and a perfect way to see the countryside and towns beyond the typical tourist spots in Hoi An. You truly get a sense of how people live there. Tam provided water and bananas along the way, happily stopping for breaks, photos, and even brief lessons on things we passed. After the ride and a coffee break, we took a bus to My Son Sanctuary. You could tell Tam is genuinely passionate about history; he shared insights that really brought the place to life. His English was excellent, so he was always easy to understand. At the end, he took us to a fantastic food spot before dropping us off exactly where we needed to go. Overall, it was an amazing day, and Tam was a wonderful guide!
This tour was absolutely amazing! Though My Son sanctuary is the final destination if you love cycling this is a great way to explore the countryside and local villages around Hoi An. My guide Hoàn was extremely knowledgeable about both the local area and the history. The terrain is mostly flat but you need to have a medium- experienced level of fitness due to the heat it’s 28 km. Highly recommended
This tour was excellent. The guide (Kay) was knowledgeable and extremely friendly. The tour consisted of a gentle cycle ride through vietnamese countryside, with frequent stops for water, drinks, and fruit. A mini bus then picks you up and takes you the rest of the way to My Son. My Son is well worth seeing, but a guide (like on this tour) is a must. The ruins wouldn't mean much if you didn't have a guide (particulaly if you were like us who hadnt dine extensiove background research on the hietory of the ruins, their discovery, and the general cham culture. In a nutshell, the trip was well worth it if staying in the Hoi An area if you want a mix of history, culture, and gentle cycling combined. It makes for an enjoyable day out.
We had an incredible experience with Hoàn! It was just two of us and since we are seasoned cyclist we took some detours which really added to our experience. I learned so much about Vietnamese culture, plants and the language. It was hands down the best part of our trip!
Love this tour! Our host Tom was brilliant and accommodated us & our daughter well. The bikes were very well maintained, with working gears, helmets and far exceeded any other bikes we used on our tours. The countryside was so interesting, riding through the local villages. My Son is definitely worth the effort!! Lunch on the return trip was delicious!!! Thank you Tom, one of our highlights of our time in Vietnam!
An amazing tour with Tam, who was so knowledgeable, caring and patient with us during the entire trip. Despite not being avid cyclists, this is a wonderful way to see this beautiful region of Vietnam and then to visit the Sanctuary and listen to the history from Tam, made for an unbelievable experience. Highly recommend this with Tam! Bob Rajan (Munich, Germany)
I hesitated booking this experience because it is something I wouldn’t normally do, but I am so glad I did! What an incredible experience! Huy was very knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. The heat was a bit intense, so I suggest bringing extra water if possible and plenty of sunscreen. I also chose to wear a cycling chamois which I would recommend for those who are not consistent with cycling. We did stop along the way for an electrolyte drink and bananas which helped. The ride was pretty flat and mellow, which allowed me to really take in the sights. This was by far one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had, and I will always remember it. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a different type of adventure and an opportunity to see a bit of real life in Vietnam.
Ky was a great guide. One of the highlights of our trips in Vietnam was biking through countryside seeing a side of Vietnam that is not easily seen in the cities or resorts. We had a great day and would highly recommend this tour.
What a great trip! We both enjoyed our 40km ride, and the chicken noodles were amazing for lunch! Thank you for your explanations at the unisco site, was very insightful and we learned alot about the local culture. Highly recommend!!
Easy bicycling, really interesting temple ruins. The biking is flat and mostly on paved paths through rice paddies, farms and villages. We walked through a market and had coffee. The ruins are over a thousand years old, in a dramatic jungle setting, and our guide gave us a lot of history. Then we had a good lunch. I recommend this tour.
Great tour of biking thru the rice fields and small villages before entering a van taking us up to the My Son ruins. Tâm is an excellent guide with tons of knowledge of most everything in and around Hoi An. A+++++
Wow! How amazing was this experience! We were only 3 bikers plus our guide on this tour which was nice! (Not a fan of big groups...) Hubby is a mountain biker so I booked the tour mostly for him with little expectations for myself not being a mountain biker, but there is an option at the last stop to go the rest of the way in the van instead - which is what I did - while the other bikers carry on (mostly uphill) to My Son. Make no mistake this is a long peddle and your butt (and if you're not regularly cycling) your neck, back and basically every other part of your body knows it! However it is an amazing experience and you get to see things you would not otherwise, so it is absolutely worth the pain and completely doable at least up to the last stop which is probably about another half hour peddle from My Son. The personal service and attention from the moment we arrived at Grasshopper's offices in Hoi An, was awesome! Our guide made sure we had regular stops, made sure we were OK and hydrated and took a lot of time pointing out things to us, sharing the history and other information about the area we were cycling through and pointed out specific points of interest. He was very patient with little old me lagging behind in some places. I never once felt that I was an inconvenience or held everyone back if they had to wait a few seconds for me to catch up. Along the way we stopped at a market for a look around and some local food and coffee which was very nice! It gave us a bit of a break from peddling. Our guide bought fruit that we enjoyed later. When we arrived at My Son, our guide took us all the way through the entire sanctuary which is done on foot - quite a walk! He had a vast knowledge of the sanctuary and all the history. We took our time at the sanctuary and did not at any point feel rushed through. It was just a very easy relaxing walk with plenty of time to explore and take photos. I would recommend Grasshopper Bike tours in Hoi An in a heartbeat and I'll definitely do this tour again if I find myself in Hoi An.
Wonderful tour with Ky. I loved cycling through the countryside, and seeing so much local life and colour… Ky was extremely professional and friendly, good English and very knowledgeable about all subjects. The bikes were first rate and very new. I would SO recommend this tour to anyone. A very special day out.
This was a fabulous experience and I would highly recommend it. From start to finish, it was extremely enjoyable and so interesting throughout the day - by far, the best excursion we have done in Vietnam. Our guide, Quang, spoke fluent English and he was so friendly and incredibly informative and able to answer any questions we had about what we were seeing during the ride and whilst at My Son Sanctuary - which is an absolute ‘must see’. The length of the ride was just right, and it was good that the minibus was able to take us from My Son straight back to our hotel in Hoi An. The various stop offs were great too, and we particularly enjoyed visiting the market. At the final stop before My Son, we were offered drinks at a nice cafe/bar and the choice of freshly made juice drinks was great - I recommend the fresh lemonade as it was out of this world! The bikes were lightweight, in good condition and very easy to ride. The only negative in my opinion was that there could have been more advice about suitable attire for the day in the booking information. So here are my suggestions - wear lightweight gloves as the grips on the handles feel a bit prickly after a while and the gear chain is exposed so either wear shorts or tight fitting leggings. Padded cycle shorts ideal though as the bike seats aren’t particularly comfortable. Trainers also advisable for walking the terrain at My Son and if you’re prone to mozzy bites, make sure you’ve got that covered as I was bitten more on that day than during the previous 3 weeks in Vietnam. Water is provided so no need to bring your own. There are no baskets or panniers on the bikes so a small rucksack for your belongings would be ideal. The cycling terrain is mostly flat with only a few slight inclines so most levels of fitness could cope, but confidence on a bike is a must as there are a few narrow tracks to negotiate along the way.
Despite rain it was the best tour i made:) got to see the country side and then the temple. Hoan is a great guide
Wasn't sure I could do it - 27km on a bicycle? But I did and it was a wonderful experience. There was nothing touristy about the day. We really got to experience Vietnam countryside and understand a very important part of the cultural history. Hán, our guide, not only gave us great insight, he looked after us very well.
We had an incredible bike tour out from Hoi An to My Son. It was a great way to see life outside the city, which finished with the magnificent temples at My Son. Hoan is a brilliant guide who made sure everyone was safe and having a good time.
Huge thanks to Mike; very friendly, knowledgeable. Great equipment. The tour was everything we had hoped for providing an insight into the culture and lifestyle of the country, an experience and understanding you are not afforded when sitting in a car or bus.
Had a fantastic time on the cycle to My Son from Hoi An today. Amazing scenery on quiet rural tracks and lots of interesting stops and information along the way. The guides looked after us brilliantly. Would thoroughly recommend.
Highly recommended doing a bike tour and can't fault these guys. There's more to see and experience when you're on a bicycle. The ride was very scenic and we felt safe the whole time. Went through villages and interacted with locals going about their daily lives. Talked to villagers in rice paddocks/corn fields, vendors in marketplace etc. Bought fruit from the local market (covered in the tour cost). My Son Heritage is incredible. Our guides knowledge of the area was excellent. It was very very hot but we given everything we needed to be as comfortable as can be. (Ie an umbrella 😀). Lunch at local restaurant was excellent and we had the fruit from the market for desert.
We booked the 3 days tour around the Mekong Delta. Had a fantastic time but very demanding track, great visits and insights into landscape and agricultural production
We had a great time exploring the countryside with our guide, Gae (may have misspelled, apologies!) who was very knowledgeable about the agriculture and history of the area. After @15 miles of riding we stopped at a great coffee shop for some refreshments and fresh local fruit. Then we drove to My Son sanctuary which was beautiful and learned a lot about its history and the religious history of Vietnam. Definitely recommend this tour!
This bike tour around hoi an and then visit to my son was the highlight of my time in Hoi an, cycling around the villages was beautiful and my guide Ky was the nicest bike tour guide ever, he also had plenty insight into history of my son temple and made the experience very enjoyable, highly recommend doing this tour if you want a great time outside Hoi an.
Amazing trip. Our guide One was incredibly knowledgeable in the culture and history of Vietnam. One of the best experiences we had in Vietnam.
What a fantastic tour! Easily one of the highlights of my time in Vietnam, the whole organisation was incredible, Mike was a great guide - very knowledgeable and focused on customer experience and safety! Could not recommend him or the tour any more, I had a wonderful experience and would happily go again :)
Loved the tour, great cycling through the countryside of Vietnam to My Son. The guide was incredibly knowledgeable and gave us a great introduction to the life in Vietnam and My Son. The tour is either 20km or 40km, you can choose half way through.
I was the only one to book for this on the day I went so had a private tour. I was also able to choose to bike the whole way to My Son which was 25 miles (40k). My guide was very informative and we stopped for photos along the way. Got to see some real Vietnam biking along the narrow pathways and some rutted tracks. I would say you have to have bike confidence and some level of fitness, definitely not for a beginner. Loved this trip, the fresh fruit and noodle stop rounded off a lovely day.
Such an incredible day biking through the countryside with Ky. Perfect intro to Hoi An and the surrounding area while also doing something physical. I was the only one on the tour that day and felt very taken care of. Learned so much and had a lot of fun. Definitely recommend!
This was an amazing bicycke adventure, through the countryside outside of Hoi An! It was so peaceful riding through the farm fields and our guide was incredibly knowledgeable! We stopped to take pictures of the water Buffalo, the river, and all of the sights on the way to My Son. He bought snacks for us to have along the way, and lunch was also included! I would highly recommend this tour!!
Loved the tour. I was the only customer that day so I was lucky to get a private tour. We biked around in the outskirts of HCM and I got a great overview of the life of the locals - the rice and vegetable fields, small villages, schools, cemeteries, swallow houses, a local market. After biking, we had a small snack and then the bus took us to the My Son area where Hoang explained the history and the cultural background of the temples. On the way back, we had lunch in a local noodle place. Hoang is a great guide and gives you a great overview of the everyday life of the locals. He had answers to all the questions that I had :) If you're into discovering new places with a local (while riding a bike), I 100% recommend this tour!
Most amazing organized trip I have ever attended. Authentic with great guide, small group, no obligatory commercial stops. Just the right balance of physical activity and comfort. Excellent trip
The whole tour was such a great experience. Our tour guide was lovely and very knowledgeable. Despite some recent floods, they were really understanding and worked around the situation to take us around My Son and Hoi An old town. Our guide even went out of his way to get us some local snacks! Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting for the first time.
Excellent tour to the My Son Ruins. The tour guides Quan and Rose were excellent. They made us feel very safe while biking and then Quan gave great explanations of the history of the ruins. Would definitely do this again!
We have just had the best cycle tour to the amazing My Son Ruins. Our guide was excellent though I didn’t catch his name (sorry!) great trip through rice paddies, fields and villages, food and water and information all accounted for. High light of my Vietnam trip. Will book another tour with Grasshopper, very professional and enjoyable. Thank you!
Booked the tour as part of package with bamboo circus tickets at the Lune Theatre. Overall good value for money. Friendly guide with excellent English. Knowledgeable particularly in botany, in addition to history of the area. There were only 4 in our tour group, which was nice. GT mountain bikes were decent, fairly new and working condition, clean, good suspension and very responsive disc brakes. Looked after our group well while cycling through the city and country, went at a reasonable pace. Local market tour was interesting - small market out of town that we would not have ever visited as tourists. Was flexible with lunch and allowed us to chose between the famous Banh mi Queen and noodles/rice. Provided water bottles and unlimited water. Thank you Grasshopper Tours for a great experience!
Amazing experience. Had a great guide in Han who was very informative and funny. Had a great view of My Son and the bike ride was amazing!
We just came back from our half-day bike trip to My Son with Grasshopper Adventures, and boy did we have a good time! Our guide, Quan, was incredibly knowledgeable and took terrific care of us. I was a bit nervous about biking what with all the scooters and traffic, but Quan made everything go super smoothly. And he really made the site come alive for us--I felt sorry for other visitors who didn't have someone as informed as Quan to help them learn about the Champa people and their role in southeast Asian history. The cherry on the top was that his English is outstanding...thank you Grasshopper and Quan for making this day so special for us!
Excellent guide. It’s an early start cycling when still cool. You will visit the true countryside, fields, villages, cemeteries and a street market. Ending in a contemporary coffee shop with a lift to the temples as the first wave of tourists are leaving for lunch. Amazingly ancient Cham ruins in the jungle. Sign up!
My mother and I had a wonderful time on this trip. Whilst she has been cycling a fair bit, I couldn't remember when I went cycling before this. The trip was totally doable and our guide calmed any worries I had. It was great to get away from the crowded city streets and see the My Son temples. Our guide was very informative and told us about the history of the areas as we travelled through them. We had a great time and I would recommend this experience to others.
A fascinating 20km ride through countryside along mostly quiet village roads and paths on the outskirts of Hoi An. We visited families in the different villages. E.g. rice paper maker, farmers, rice wine producer.Along the way we learnt alot bout the Vietnamese culture. The riding was easy and our Grasshopper guide looked after us well. Highly recommended.
Despite the fact it poured down with rain for at least half the 25km bike ride - this was a fun, easy cycling adventure. (Ponchos were provided) It was great to get out into the countryside and cycle through the villages and get a better insight into how the locals live. Plenty of food and drinks provided. Mike was a great guide with a wonderful sense of humour.
If you want to escape the city a bit, this is a great way to do it. Our tour guide An was fantastic throughout - his English is amazing and his knowledge and insights is what made this tour for me. Just one note: to get into the countryside you need to go over some bridges which can be a bit unsettling if you're not used to city biking. I would recommend starting the tour from the countryside point or perhaps giving the option. Other than that, really enjoyed the experience.
Quan was awesome and really friendly and helpful and knowledgeable the entire trip. He spoke great English and made everything go so smoothly during a 2.5 bike ride through beautiful countryside and a few rain showers. This was our favorite thing that we did in Hoi An and can’t recommend it enough!
Even though we were alone on this trip as a couple we still got two great guides: Thieu and Nhit plus a driver from the second snack to My Son and all the way back to our hotel. Great bikes, great ride through the countryside, wonderful tour walking through My Son world heritage site, great company, wonderful snacks and a delicious lunch. This company’s website is excellent and the tours match the promise!!!
We cycled approximately 24 km through Hoi An half way to My Son where we stopped for a break - continued the rest of the way by van and foot. Cycling was amazing, through the countyside, guided by our host, An, who did a brilliant job of guiding us through busy traffic and into the countryside. Despite having not been on a bike in the last 15 years and never in traffic like Hoi An, I felt safe. An’s knowledge was extensive. Loved this trip and would do it again!
My son and I took the half-day bicycle tour from Hoi An to the Champa Temple ruins. It was an amazing ride through rice paddies and villages to the ruins, which are magnificent to see. Our guide Quan was fantastic - really friendly and full of great information about the region. We would definitely do another tour with Grasshopper.
A great cycle ride through the countryside at a very relaxed pace. Excellent knowledge from our guide and My Son was very interesting. Would recommend this to anyone visiting the area.
Interesting landscape of paddy fields, floating bridges, river crossings, cemeteries, rural residences etc, a truly enjoyable experience!
