We had a fantastic time in Hoi An! The food tour was delicious, be prepared to eat lots! After we did the lantern boat ride was beautiful, and the Hoi An Memories Show was absolutely amazing. We had such a great time on the Hoi A street food tour with John! There was plenty of delicious food and an excellent range of dishes to try. We loved exploring parts of town and discovering little food spots we would never have found on our own. The lantern boat tour along the river was also a highlight. John was funny, knowledgeable and brilliant with our kids, making the whole experience relaxed and enjoyable for everyone. A fantastic way to experience Hoi An through its food. Thanks again, John—highly recommend!
John is a fantastic tour guide who takes you to spots you wouldn’t find on your own. He was very flexible adapting the tour because of the rain. We enjoyed all of the dishes and John’s guidance. Highly recommend!
John was a charming guide, attentive and communicative. We veru much liked the dish choices John's compsny did for us. We warmly recommend to join motorcycles tours in general and this one in particular.
What a great evening tasting a variety of local dishes from Hoi An. John is a great guide who is passionate, knowledgeable and very funny, sharing where the local dishes come from. We went to a variety of different places by electric buggy and on foot which was a great experience being able to see everything. The evening was topped off with a beautiful lantern boat ride. Another fantastic tour with John!! Thank you so much 😊 🏮✨
Our street food tour started with visits to two homes to see and learn about their traditional practices for making local foods: Cau Lâu and bean sprouts. Then we visited several establishments, serving foods that tied into what we learned, as well as their own history in Hoi An. John is extremely friendly, a fluent English speaker and very knowledgeable about his hometown. We truly enjoyed our time together and have booked two other tours with him during our holiday in Vietnam!
My friend and I are traveling though Southeast Asia for several weeks, and we’ve been on three food tours now in different cities. John stands out for his humor, friendliness, and his English. He offered us a walking tour and one by motorbike; we opted for the one on bike. He guided us to some local family businesses where we learned about the noodles and bean sprouts that we later ate. It was a nice cultural bonus, unexpected for a food tour. John took us off the beaten path and away from crowded and touristy Old Town to places with tiny plastic stools and locals, only locals. He even helped arrange a motorbike tour up to Hue the following day. Sign of a guy in the know, in my opinion, that he can be sort of a one-stop shop for tours all over the region. I couldn’t recommend John strongly enough, and you’d be silly not to go with him.
We had the absolute BEST time with John! He was so knowledgeable and showed us all around, he helped us organize other day trips for our visit, and showed us the yummiest food! We love you, John!
Great food tour with John and my Family loved it. John was very knowledgeable and took us to so many great places to eat, would definitely recommend it!
I had a blast with John! Everything was perfect and he was very flexible. DEFINETLY recommend booking with John and his crew if you want to have the best Expirence pissible!
It was an amazing tour! Got to eat some of the best foods in Vietnam so yummy! The price was 100% worth it. John was so amazing, kind, and fun to be around!!
John was an amazing host for our family and help us to see all the amazing sites around. 100% would recommend. Thanks John for the awesome tour - David
We had a private Hoi A Street Food Tour with John for 9 of my family members, and it was absolutely wonderful! John was attentive to everyone’s needs, especially since some of our family members have difficulty with long-distance walking. He arranged for us to use an electric buggy to get to some of the restaurants, which made the experience comfortable and enjoyable for everyone. The food selections were excellent—and very filling, so come hungry! 😋 We got to experience a great variety of delicious local dishes while learning more about Hoi An’s food and culture. We capped off the evening with a beautiful lantern tour. Releasing lanterns into the river while making a wish was such a magical way to end the night. 🏮 John made sure our entire family had an amazing experience. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Hoi An! 5 stars all the way! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
John was an absolutely spectacular guide to the area, its culture and cuisine. I was at first nervous to be riding on the back of a motorbike however the team made sure I was completely comfortable. Food was fantastic with generous portions from locals I wouldn’t have found on my own. John went above and beyond to provide white glove service. Will be a profound memory from my trip!
We had a wonderful time touring Hoi An old town with our wonderful guide John! John is amazing! Full of information and fun facts. He is funny and easy going and was an absolute highlight of our time in this beautiful town. He took us to many out of the way food places and tried foods we would not have tried on our own, but so glad we did! Highly recommend John and this tour ⭐️
We loved our scooter food tour. John is a great guide: caring, knowledgeable and great at conversation. The food was plentiful and delicious! We will always remember this special experience.
Very good experience the host John is incredible and knows everything and is very funny. The other drivers are great too and know how to have a good time. As for the food every stop is really good and well thought out. 10/10 recommend.
It was a great experience! Our guide took us to authentic local spots we never would have found on our own, from learning how to make dishes from 0 to enjoying them in authentic street corners. Every dish was delicious. We learned so much about Hoi An’s food culture while enjoying a relaxed walk through the city. Friendly, knowledgeable, and perfectly paced—this was one of the highlights of our Vietnam trip. Highly recommended!
We had the most amazing time with John as he took us took us on a tour of his home town. We tried many delicious foods and he told us all about the history of Hoi An. He was a wonderful tour guide - very funny and knowledgeable. Thank you John for a memorable tour, we loved every moment!
We did this tour and it was amazing. We got to see how the noodles were made by local farmers. After that we visited 5 different local food restaurants. All were very tasty. Our guide was also very fun to hang out with. We learned a lot from him about Hoi Ann, Vietnam, the food and many other questions we had. It was a very fun experience, trying new foods we normally wouldn't have eaten if it wasn't for this tour.
We had a lot of fun trying different meals in Hoi An. Really recommend this tour if you’re in the town.
We had a very nice evening, tried a lot of good spots that we otherwise should not have tried
John was amazing. The food knowledge was incredible. The team made us all feel very safe. Highly recommend. Highlight of the trip!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had an amazing experience on the Food Tour with John Lee Tours. Everything was well organized, and our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the local culture and cuisine. We visited several authentic local eateries and tasted a variety of delicious traditional dishes that I probably wouldn't have found on my own. The guide shared interesting stories about each dish and the history behind it, making the experience even more enjoyable. I highly recommend John Lee Tours to anyone looking to explore the local food scene in a fun and authentic way. It was definitely one of the highlights of my trip, and I would happily join another tour in the future!
our tour guide was amazing he answered all our questions while telling us interesting information and being the most friendly tour guide ive ever met
John was so knowledgeable and is an absolute legend! He really fit in well with our family and was great to have around. He showed us all the best places to go and took so many photos and even made a video of our time together which was special. Thanks so much John!
Wow! Amazing! The food was incredible and the driving around town was quite a unique experience. Highly recommend!
Great food tour with John! So fun to ride the motorbikes around Hoi An and try local cuisines!
Amazing experience with John on the food tour!!! He was so kind and really made the experience so fun! 10/10 recommend
My wife and I had the most amazing food tour with John. We whizzed around on Vespas and explored 5+ restaurants all night. We got to try the local foods and we were so full by the end. John’s energy and knowledge was beyond anything we expected also speaks great English. We would recommend to anyone traveling to Hoi An. It was also very nice to have a private tour so it was an authentic experience of the city without feeling touristy.
Great tour. Despite rain John safely took me to some yummy local places. Poncho provided. Super friendly. Great English. Enjoyed the whole experience and would highly recommend.
Wonderful experience with John, doing the food tour. He is knowledgeable, friendly, inquisitive in the best way, and takes you to the most awesome local places for food. Would highly recommend.
This was my second time booking a private tour with John, and somehow he raised the bar even higher. What makes John stand out is his ability to completely customize the experience to exactly what you want. This time, he crafted an incredible, immersive foodie tour that felt authentic, local, and seriously delicious from start to finish. The White Roses? Absolutely unreal… easily one of the best bites of the entire trip. At one of the most popular spots with a massive line, John worked his magic and had us eating almost immediately. It felt like we had some kind of ultra VIP access while everyone else was stuck waiting. That alone is worth booking him. He also took us through Coconut Village where we hopped into traditional basket boats. Spinning around on the water was ridiculously fun, but it wasn’t just for show, it’s rooted in authentic old-style fishing techniques, which made the whole experience feel cultural and real, not touristy. Beyond the food, the experience was perfectly layered. We visited a fascinating marble sculpture workshop where you could see artisans creating detailed works by hand, then later transitioned into something straight out of a dream — a lantern boat ride where we made wishes and released our lanterns onto the river. Pure magic. John doesn’t just guide tours, he orchestrates experiences. Everything flows effortlessly, feels elevated, and leaves you with moments you’ll actually remember. Honestly, if you’re not touring with John, you’re just not getting the experience you deserve. Highly, highly recommend.
John started the tour with a visit to a couple of the small, Indie producers of products that we would experience on the tour. We learned a lot and it gave us a much better appreciation of the wonderful food that we experienced later that evening. We have been on a lot of food tours, and John’s is definitely one of the best. We highly recommend it.
John Lee gave us a thorough tour of Hoi An. On scooter, we visited a master maker of cao lau (rice noodle), swept through rice paddies, enjoyed world-renowned banh mi, and marveled at the floating lanterns on the Hoai River. John explained the sights in great detail and indulged us with the things that we wanted to do, including eating street food like fresh durian. Come out and explore Hoi A with John Lee Tours!
My husband, son, and I had the most amazing food tour on the back of motorbikes with John Lee tours last night! Our guide, Lam, and the other two drivers, Lam and Dat, took such good care of us. They drove us through back alleys, winding roads, bustling streets, and rice fields. We saw parts of Hoi An we would never have seen otherwise. Lam was an excellent guide sharing much information about his own life and Vietnam more generally. We learned the history of each food we ate. We got to take a try at making dumplings and saw where noodles are made. The thing that made it all extra special for me was riding on the motorbikes to each destination. It’s one thing to watch the locals speeding by on their motor bikes but to be on one, you get a real feel for the pulse and rhythm of the city. Lam, Dat, and Lam were fantastic! Very highly recommended! Thank you!
This is a truly outstanding food tour and a really fun evening out in Hoi An! We go on food tours in just about every city we visit and can say that John’s food tour is right up there with the best of them. In addition to introducing us to all the foods Hoi An is known for, he also took us behind the scenes to get to know a few of the local family-owned businesses (including a hands on rose dumpling making experience that I don’t believe other food tours do). Towards the end of the tour, John also arranged a lantern boat ride for us (taking fantastic pictures of us along the way). If you’re reading this review and looking for a great food tour and fun night out in Hoi An (with a truly great host), you cannot go wrong booking with John. This is an easy 5-star review!
Heaps of fun, great food and very informative about local food and culture. John was amazing. Very highly recommended.
John is so incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable that we always felt like we were in good hands. He is very personable and made the experience feel like hanging out with a good friend. We are so grateful to have met John and look forward to booking again with him in the future. Do not miss out on this experience!
We had a great time! I had a list of foods to try and this ticked off nearly all. John brought a real energy to the experience which made the afternoon fun. We really enjoyed meeting the locals who grew and prepared food and having someone local know where to go and what to eat was amazing. Highly recommend.
Amazing walking tour with John "Hoang", he showed my toddler and I around and was very accommodating to my toddlers fussy needs haha - was very helpful and loved exploring hoi an - highly recommend 😀
We had a lovely time exploring Hoi An's local food culture with John. He was excited to showcase his city and the delicious food that's traditional in Hoi An. John is friendly, helpful, flexible and focused on delivering a great experience. We highly recommend him!
John is awesome!!! His tour is excellent and takes you to great food spots that really feel true to local culture. He’s also a lot of fun to hang out with, cracking jokes, taking selfies, and making us feel totally at home. Highly recommend to anyone coming to Hoi A who would like a fun experience to explore the culture.
We do food tours in almost all cities we visit and that is about 20 in over 2 years. John’s was fantastic. He is a native of Hoi An and thus has lots of insider knowledge. Before we visited restaurants he took us to visit the 68 y/o man who makes almost all of the unique noodles for Cao Lau. Next we saw where most of the local bean sprouts are grown in sand. The food stops were unique and excellent. Our group couldn’t stop raving about his tour.
This was so much more than just another food tour in another city. John’s joyful and happy demeanour immediately shone through and we felt comfortable with him and his brother as we climbed aboard the motorbikes. Travelling through paddy fields full of the crops for later this year it was hard to believe we were only just outside Hoi An and a very special stop was to come. Before we had eaten anything we stopped at a house where the couple living there were continuing a multi-generation “cottage” industry making Cao Lau noodles for Hoi An’s restaurants (150kg a day!!). The process using water from special wells and ash from charcoal was amazing to watch. Then came the food (absolutely amazing) and chat with John - it felt to us like we were meeting an old friend - born and raised in Hoi An he knows his local stuff and this was what made it special. if you ever find yourself in Hoi An wondering what to do for 3 hours (that will fly by) then look John up - more personal and attentive than the corporate suppliers of such tours. Thanks John for etching yourself on our memories - we had so much fun John and Anne Marie
We had such a great time exploring the food and sights in Hoi An with Trang. She was so lovely and genuine, and we really enjoyed chatting to her about the food and life in general. The places we ate were all amazing, and it was a good amount of food throughout the evening. Trang was also really flexible with the itinerary, and planned the stops to maximise our time in Hoi An.
We had a great time with Lam as our tour guide. Unlike other food tours we’ve done, we started off visiting a few family operations that were producing sprouts and noodles to learn more of the economics side of the area. We then went to 5 or 6 places for some local flavors, which were great. I just wish I skipped lunch so I could have eaten more!
John was an incredible guide for our tour having great knowledge/information as well as being very fun and entertaining. My siblings and I loved it just as much as our parents and it was great for the entire family
John was our tour guide for our street food tour in Hoi An and he was EXCELLENT! Wonderful, kind, patient and a fantastic sense of humour. Thank you John for making our evening so great.
John was an absolutely amazing guide very knowledgeable. English is extremely good. Showed us some wonderful places. We have been to Hoi A before. But he managed to show us things we had seen before would highly recommend John
