Hoi An Food Tour: 12 Flavors Of A Former Trading Port

A fantastic food tour and one of the highlights of my time in Hoi An! It was a great opportunity to discover the city's food culture and try a wide variety of local dishes that I probably wouldn't have found on my own. I especially liked that the experience went beyond just tasting food, with interesting insights into the history, traditions and different cultural influences behind the dishes. Exploring the little alleyways and local food spots made the experience feel much more authentic. A great combination of delicious food, culture and exploration. Highly recommended, especially if you want to experience Hoi An beyond the usual tourist spots! We met a lovely old lady that made us her special dish.

Great experience with Man travel, very knowledgeable about the history behind the food, went behind the scenes and into small alleys and local kitchens. Highly recommend if you love food and want to try something local and authentic! The locals are welcoming and friendly and very warm and open to recieving tourist in their small local restaurants. The food is amazing and taste great!

Such an amazing food tour with Dong! It felt genuinely authentic, with a great variety of local dishes and places I probably wouldn’t have discovered on my own. The wonton soup, banh beo, and White Rose were absolute highlights — some of the best food I’ve had on my trip. Dong was wonderful: kind, attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely excited to share the local food and culture. There was an incredible amount of food too — I left completely stuffed and even had some to take away! One of my favorite experiences in Hoi An and definitely a tour I’d recommend.

Great time had exploring the streets with Leo, our guide, and sampling lots of different dishes along the way. The tour gives you a bit more confidence to try things you may not normally consider.

Despite the weather conditions our tour still went ahead and I’m glad it did, 3 of us booked this tour not knowing how good it would be. We met our guide Cuong at the starting point and the experience began, Cuong was very good at explaining every dish and “restaurant/stall” we stopped at. All the dishes were enjoyable and unique to the area which made it more of an experience, I would highly recommend this tour, despite the heavy rain stopping us from trying one dish Cuong still arranged another location, so don’t let the weather stop you from giving it a go if it does happen.

We had such a great evening doing the food tour with Leo. He took us to places we never would have found by ourselves, and we tried truly local dishes that were all excellent and different from the usual things we’d already tried elsewhere in Vietnam. Leo was also really great at giving us information about the food, the history and the heritage of Hoi An. I would definitely recommend!

Leo was very knowledgeable and showed me around all the local eateries. My favorite was the chicken rice! I learned a lot about each dish and the people who made them. I wouldn’t have been able to find them on my own. He was very attentive to my needs and didn’t rush through it. Very friendly and positive character! I did this the first night I landed in Hoi An. It’s a great way to get a feel of the neighborhood and receive recommendations for other places. Thank you Leo!

This tour is a brilliant way to experience Hoi An’s food beyond the obvious tourist spots. Quyen & Don took us to a mix of small local places, market stalls and family-run spots that we never would have found on our own. We tried so many different local foods throughout the tour, but I don’t want to list everything and ruin the surprise. Every stop was different, and the food was incredible. One of my favourite stops was the black sesame soup, where we met the woman who continues her family’s tradition of making it. Her family has been making it for generations, and she was so incredibly kind. We really loved meeting her and hearing about the history behind it. It was one of those experiences that made the tour feel much more personal. Quyen and Don were full of information and answered every question I had, regardless of whether it had anything to do with food. 😂 More than that, they were just genuinely good people and we really enjoyed getting to know them. I really wish them well with the tour and hope they get the success they deserve. And my only complaint, which is completely on me, is that there was WAAAAAY TOOO MUCH FOOD! 😂 We ate for three hours and every time I thought we must be finished, another dish appeared. Come hungry. Seriously. If you want to try local Hoi An food and learn about the food, culture and people behind it, I’d definitely recommend this tour.

Our your guide, Quin was absolutely amazing, the ride around hoi an old town and the rice fields were such an amazing experience, and the food was the best food we have ever had, Quin new exactly where the best food shops were which made our whole experience amazing, definitely recommend to add to the list to do in Hoi an, definitely worth while.

If you are looking to see the real Hoo An, this tour is for you! We had a fantastic time and got to try all the traditional foods, see the farmland and rice fields! Fantastic value for money and an absolute must do if you want to experience Vietnam to the fullest.

Amazing food tour with Quin! Really good experience, we tried 12 different foods (that honestly, some of them we couldn't have found without a tour like this one). We also learnt a lot about Hoi An, Vietnamese culture, how those plates are prepare, their origin and we met and talked with some of the vendors. A must do when in Hoi An!

We had an amazing time on our street food tour with Man! We first met him during our first trip to Vietnam, and when we returned this year, we booked three private tours with him in Hoi An. This first tour was fantastic, and our whole family had a blast. The food was delicious, and we loved learning about the different types of Vietnamese cuisine unique to Hoi An. Man is knowledgeable, friendly, and made the experience fun and engaging for everyone. Our daughters, ages 7 and 9, absolutely loved it and are already looking forward to our next two tours with him. We couldn't recommend Man more highly for anyone wanting an authentic and memorable food experience in Hoi An!

We had the MOST AMAZING time on our food tour with Man. He is such a wonderful and caring tour guide who really works hard to make sure his clients have the best experience possible. We went on a private food tour with my husband and two young daughters. I’d like to note that my youngest has a shellfish and mollusk allergy that can make trying street food in Vietnam tricky. But Man ensured that everything she had was safe for her. Everything was so delicious and we probably wouldn’t have experienced such delicacies without such an awesome guide! 100000/10 recommend!!!

This was a really informative and also tasty experience. I felt involved in the culture of Hoi An and Vietnam and now have an understanding of the local foods and snacks. Everything was delicious and our Guide Leo was great and super friendly!

Experience unique Vietnamese food of Hoi An. So different from the regular choices you will know well. Every stop is tastier than the next. A great way to acquaint yourself with the history and its intersection with food culture of this funky town.

The tour is great value. Even it was raining but the food is delicious and our guide is very knowledgable made the trip fun and exciting.

Yesterday I did the food tour, with the amazing Leo, and four more people. Leo brought a really fun atmosphere with him to the group, and everybody had such a good time eating incredible food, and chatting. It was in my opinion even better than advertised, very thorough, and every place was super authentic. Would 100 percent recommend for anyone who wants to experience Hoi An's true food culture, and classic Vietnamese dishes. <3

So much food. Man and Quin were so adapting, as a vegetarian I was a little worried about options for food on this tour, but everything was tasty, and the same amount of effort as the meat eaters! Five separate stops and I will absolutely be going more outside of my comfort zone trying new after this!

Worth the money! I took two food yours in Vietnam and the food in this one was diverse and very good. It’s a lot of good. Would recommend

Man (Guides name) was an excellent guide with great local knowledge - the food locations were authentic and we would never have found these without his expert local guidance. Would recommend and do again if coming back to Hoi An

Man was great! The tour was easy to follow. He picked us up from the specified meeting point easily, and started the tour right there. All really informative and short walks between stops. All traditional Vietnamese dishes were great to try and highly recommend it.

Wow! We met with our tour guide, Man, at a local restaurant where we sampled the white rose dumplings, received the history and watched them be made. From there we walked to I believe 7 locations and tried so many different local foods! Some were restaurants, street vendors, tiny “local” restaurants with no tourists, market food stalls and even people’s homes where they make and sell their families traditional foods. I liked that the group was small (our family of 4 plus another couple) and we weren’t going to tourist trap type places. We walked around 3km however as they were in small walks between locations it didn’t feel like much. Finishing with Sinh To (self mashed fruit smoothie with ice) was a lovely and refreshing dessert to finish on! We also had the assistance of To, who is training to be a tour guide. Good luck with your training. 😀

Man was we knowledgeable, great English and showed us amazing places and great food. We experienced some good places we wouldn’t have found without him. So full by the end of it!

We went around to multiple shops and small local restaurants, it was Exelent value for money and it is well And truely enough food to fill you up and it’s all delicious. The guide man and to were great super helpful and lots of local knowledge.

We booked a last minute scooter food tour and we were contacted right away by Sonny. He set up a meeting spot right near our hotel and communicated well throughout the evening. I can’t speak highly enough of this tour. We were fed until we were stuffed and then fed some more! Sonny and his coworker, Dong, scootered us around old town and beyond it; we visited the rice fields, an herb farm, and Hoi An Island during the tour. The dishes were fantastic and Sonny was very knowledgeable, informing us about the history and processes involved in each dish. The food was delicious and we also enjoyed the conversation. Our tour was private with just the two of us and we had a great time getting to know Hoi An through its amazing food. Sonny was also fantastic company. We would recommend this tour to anyone looking to enjoy good food while also getting to see different parts of the city.

Sonny was a fabulous guide. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about Vietnam and its history and its food. Particularly the rice growing. We had a really fun time on the back of motorbikes and the food was sensational! We tasted things we would never have tried if we were on our own. Highly recommend the tour and Sonny.

This is an amazing experience. Quin was amazing, an expert, and customized the tour to our group. Some people in our group didn’t eat fish or pork and she made sure they had great options. She showed us foods we never would’ve tried on our own, told great stories about each place, and took us to super clean places. Would recommend to anyone.
