You will be transferred to John Lee’s bike station in the countryside to start your cycling route, or we can begin directly from your hotel. Cycle through picturesque country roads to a local farming village. (If you don’t know how to ride a bicycle, you can use our scooter “xe ôm” service. The fee is 170,000 VND per person, paid directly to the driver.) Experience the daily life of local farmers by joining their activities — such as hoeing the soil and watering vegetables in an organic herb garden.
Riding water buffalo in the field and enjoy the freshest air of the countryside beauty.
Board a traditional Vietnamese bamboo basket boat and cruise through the waterways towards the mouth of the river, where it meets the Cua Dai Sea. Learn how to paddle the unique basket boat and enjoy this fun and authentic local experience. Explore the peaceful coconut-palm waterways, once a strategic area during the war, and hear stories about the extreme conditions endured by soldiers on both sides. After the ride, we will enjoy lunch/dinner at a local house (morning tour includes lunch, afternoon tour includes dinner), along with a cold beer or soft drink. After the meal, we will cycle back to your hotel, and the trip will end.

John's cycling tour was incredible. He is very knowledgeable about farming practices and gives a truly authentic experience. The cycling is mostly flat and you ride along beautiful rice patties and he takes you to his village in the coconut forest. Lunch was delicious. John was very communicative and was incredibly kind and hospitable. 10/10 experience I would highly recommend his tours!
John was a great guide to take us by bicycle through many spots around Hoiann. We were a bit apprehensive about cycling on the busy streets but he put us at ease as we followed him slowly and he communicated upcoming directions. John grew up in the area so gave lots of information about the area as we arrived at the Coconut forest area where we went down the river on a Basket boat. Next stop, we had a great hands on experience at the Vegetable gardens, next door the restaurant had a very entertaining cooking demonstration! The cycle tours takes you past so many back roads and paths you wouldn't get to experience by car, so you get a more authentic experience. John was very thoughtful and offered an alternative to cycling as we hit the midday heat, we decided to continue cycling and glad we did. We stopped to take photos of the Buffalo. The rest of the cycling was on quiet streets and nice and easy. John's super power is capturing your trip with photos and videos!!! He captured so many amazing photos along the way and even edited a quick compilation video of the day. We are so thankful this activity was recorded so well and he shared all files at the end.
Our 3 generation family of 7 joined John on his fun filled activity tour. Our ages vary from 16 to 73, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Just biking in the traffic was a great experience without the basket boats, catching purple crabs, riding through the countryside, experiencing vegetable farming, rice farming, and a very sumptuous fresh lunch which was divine. It was a bonus chatting to all the local people. John looked after us very well, made sure we were safe, well hydrated, and continually checked on each of us. We all highly recommend John.
Had an amazing private custom tour with John in and around Hoi An. He was informative and entertaining, and really fun to hang out with. Punctual and with excellent English language. He knows the area inside out and went over and above by taking lots of photos and videos of us - even while cycling through the busy market area. Highly recommended.
John was a knowledgeable and experienced guide and very informative and who made sure he looked after us on this fabulous tour. We cycled one way then taxied home because of the heat. We learnt a lot about village life and culture and got down and involved with villagers. The basket boat was a hoot. The cooking demonstration was excellent and so was cooking our own lunch. We felt safe on the roadways as John was careful to make sure of it. Highly recommend to anyone.
We had an incredible bike tour around Hoi An with John and couldn't recommend it more! The tour had such a fantastic variety of activities, including visiting beautiful local gardens, riding through the picturesque countryside, trying the famous coconut boats, and even having the chance to ride a water buffalo. It was such a unique way to experience the real Hoi An beyond the tourist spots. John was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and made the whole day so enjoyable. Everything was easy to organise, with great communication from start to finish. The tour was topped off with a beautiful local lunch, which was the perfect way to end an amazing day. If you're visiting Hoi An, this tour is an absolute must. Thanks again, John, for such a memorable experience!
John gave us a fantastic tour around Hoi An and surrounds. Not only was the experience very memorable and fun, being a local himself, John was also very informative about the area. All activities were great fun and the venues he brought us to had fantastic food. I could not recommend this trip more highly to anyone looking for a fun way to spend half a day in Hoi An!
Young or old John will find the best tour to suit you and you'll have a great time.Is your man .
Mr. John Lee is an angel among men. Not only does he have a expert level knowledge of his hometown but is willing to share those personal connections and create bonds with you that will last a lifetime. It's like he speaks in the wind and loves through every bicycle pedal. 10/10
John was prompt, informative, pleasant and accommodating. The ride was good exercise and the places we went were great to see. The basket boats were fun, and the garden and restaurant was interesting with the highlight of meeting a water buffalo! 5 ⭐️
We spent three days in Hoi An and were so incredibly lucky to have John as our unofficial tour guide. We originally booked him for our early morning Ba Na Hills tour, but unfortunately, scheduling had other plans. Even though that tour didn’t work out, John immediately reached out and asked if we would like to have dinner with him when we arrived in Hoi An — and I’m so glad we did. From the very beginning, you could tell how passionate John is about his hometown and how much he genuinely loves sharing the beauty, culture, and heart of Hoi An with others. What started as a simple dinner turned into one of the most memorable parts of our entire trip. During our stay, John spent any spare time he had with us, showing us the local side of Hoi An that we never would have experienced on our own. He first took us to a small local shop where we had hủ tiếu and bánh mì, both of which were absolutely delicious. He then brought us on a motorbike tour through the non-touristy parts of Hoi An, where we learned about Vietnamese farming and even had the opportunity to step inside a Vietnamese home and learn about the owner’s way of life. These were such meaningful and authentic experiences that made us appreciate Hoi An even more. My friend and I truly wish we had stayed in Hoi An longer because of how wonderful John was. His hospitality, kindness, and thoughtfulness made us feel so taken care of. On our last day, he even gave us a custom-made lantern to remember our time together in Hoi An, which was such a sweet and personal gesture. Honestly, I wish I could put John in my pocket and bring him with me as a master tour guide for every destination in the world. He is easygoing, genuine, and never pressures you into doing anything you don’t want to do. He truly listens, remembers the small details, and curates the perfect experience based on what his guests enjoy. John genuinely cares about his customers and wants them to learn, experience, and fall in love with Vietnam. While tips may not be required in Asia, they are always appreciated — and John absolutely deserves every tip because of how much heart he puts into what he does. My friend and I are so grateful for our time with him. If you are visiting Hoi An, I cannot recommend John enough. He made our trip unforgettable.
Unique and fun experience - you are missing out if you don’t do this while in Hoi An! Thank you John for taking us out of the hustle and bustle of touristy areas and showing us the authentic way of life in Vietnam, with some rly nice photos along the way too :) our favourite part was cycling along the rice fields and meeting the cutest local farmer ever 🥰 John was entertaining, knowledgeable, and made us feel super comfortable throughout the entire journey. This is coming from two introverts who usually feel super awkward on tours and with people we’re not familiar with, so you know how great John’s personality is!
John was a genuine and easygoing guide. His tour provides an authentic experience of the life of locals, especially the farming and agriculture community, making it a refreshing experience for visitors who live in urban cities. I strongly recommend anyone coming to Hoi An to cater half a day for his tour. He is directly contactable via instagram if you’d like to customise any part of your trip.
We spent two very enjoyable days with John. Firstly with a walking tour of Hoi An, then on a bike tour which had the highlights of visiting the Thanh Ha pottery village, then to Cam Thanh village where we went for a jaunt on one of the round boats, and finishing up with an amazing lunch and visit to Tra Que organic vegetable village. John was great company. He was very knowledgable and had a good sense of humour. Additionally, he really went out of his way to make sure we had a good time and took every opportunity to take photo’s. We would highly recommend taking one of John’s tours.
This was my second time booking a private tour with John, and once again, he absolutely delivered. This experience was centered around the coconut village and the traditional basket boat ride, and it was one of the most fun and unique things we did in Vietnam. Gliding through the palm-lined waterways in those round boats already feels like stepping into another world, but then came the spinning… and that was next level. Controlled chaos in the best way possible. Equal parts thrill ride and cultural experience. What really stood out, though, was how authentic it felt. This isn’t just a tourist attraction, it’s rooted in real, old-school fishing techniques. John made sure we understood the history behind it, how the boats are used, and the traditions that locals have been practicing for generations. It gave the whole experience depth instead of it just being a quick photo op. As always, John kept everything running smoothly. No waiting around, no confusion, just a seamless, well-paced day. He knows exactly where to go, who to talk to, and how to make the experience feel elevated without losing its authenticity. He’s also just a great guy to spend the day with, super personable, funny, and easy to connect with. We also stopped by a marble sculpture workshop where we watched artisans create incredibly detailed pieces by hand, which was fascinating and added another unique layer to the day. And to top it all off, we finished with a beautiful lantern boat ride, making wishes and watching them float down the river… one of those moments you don’t forget. And while this tour focused more on culture and experiences, it’s worth mentioning that John also puts together an incredibly tasty local foodie tour. We did that as well, and it was just as impressive. If you want a tour that feels authentic, fun, and flawlessly executed, John Lee is the one to book!
We had an amazing tour in Hoi An with John. He is very professional, accessible and passionate about his hometown. He made us discover traditions and people in the villages. We are strongly recommending John
What a fantastic tour, we loved every minute. John was a brilliant guide. There is a great variety of experiences and they are all so much fun. Thanks John!
Today we were fortunate to have the fabulous John as our tour guide for our bike riding. He guided us on the back roads to avoid traffic and was very patient as we navigated the motorcycles and cars on our journey. He speaks perfect English and was able to give us information on the places we visited and the sights along the way. A fabulous way to spend 4 hours on a Wednesday morning. 10 out of 10 John.
We had such a lovely basket boat experience in the coconut forest, made truly special by John. Having grown up in the very village we were exploring, John brought an authenticity that you simply can’t replicate. It didn’t feel like a typical tour—more like being shown around by someone who genuinely belongs there, sharing stories and insights from lived experience. He speaks excellent English, making everything easy and engaging, and was incredibly thoughtful throughout—especially as we were traveling with a toddler. He ensured our little one was comfortable and safe, and paced the experience with such patience and care. Warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely kind—John made this a relaxed and memorable experience for our family. Highly recommend!
I had a chance to take the Hoi A country side and history tour on a bicycle with John. It was a memorable experience of sightseeing, good conversations and food. John is an energy filled, passionate and thoughtful person. He ensured that my interests were tended to. After a long day of travel he also ensured my energy was preserved to make time for the activities interspersed with periods with relaxing for coffee, food or water. If you are looking for someone who can match your energy, provide information on the local life and take care of your needs, I recommend John.
We had a great experience exploring the rice fields, vegetable gardens, and the small streets of Hoi An with John. He is super friendly, easygoing and made the tour really enjoyable. He also took lots of photos and videos for us, which we really appreciated. The price was very reasonable and we were especially grateful for his flexibility..our booking request was very last minute, but he still managed to accommodate us. Highly recommended!!!!
John was absolutely fantastic. Very cheerful and lovely to talk to, speaks perfect English and great at taking videos while riding our bikes.
We have just had such a fantastic tour of the Hoi A countryside with John Lee. I hadn’t ridden a bike in years so was a little apprehensive but it was the best way to see the beautiful countryside and experience real life in the villages of Hoi An. John was great fun and very knowledgeable. I would highly recommended him and this tour for riders of all abilities.
Had a great tour with John today, very knowledgeable, lots of fun and great personality. Perfect English would highly recommend to everyone!

Fantastic experience Best day of the trip, grest fun activities. Loved the variety boats, the cooking lesson, the biking. Fabulous personal tour with an excellent local.
Great tour with John who goes above and beyond to make sure you experience the real culture. He is wonderful with adults and especially good with kids. He stayed beyond his fixed time and ensured we enjoyed hoi a completely. He took us for whatever we needed - Tailor, coffee shop, leather stores, apart from an excellent lantern floating experience at the river. His communication skills are excellent and he speaks fluent English. He is kind, and funny. I would recommend him highly and also use him when we come back. Absolutely wonderful - thank you John! You’ve been such a delight!
Amazing experience. John was fantastic and we had a great time. Highly recommended.
We really enjoyed this tour. An authentic Vietnamese experience. John was knowledgeable and very happy to answer all of our questions. We really enjoyed th interaction with the locals.
My husband and I went on a morning bike tour with John. We used bikes from our hotel and he led the way! After leaving the old town, we made our way through the paddies and learned about traditional rice farming and how it has shifted. We met a friendly water buffalo who was living his best life chomping grass. We then visited Hang, one of three sisters who rice and vegetable farms. Hang is a queen who can carry and disperse more water than the water buffalo as a woman in her 70s! It was an honor to have her show us her work. After that, we went to the coconut village and found some quiet moments in the brackish water. My husband tried his hand at fishing. Afterward, we ate a delicious lunch with veggies from Hang’s garden. In all, it was about 4 hours and 12 miles- a perfect morning excursion with John. Highly recommend!!
This was our second tour with John in the Hoi An area and it did not disappoint. We were looking forward to a bike ride through the rice paddies and countryside and got to meet some amazing locals along the way. Hang and her sisters have a large garden where we learned about vegetables and the growing process. From there, we rode to the famous basket boats for a ride and a fishing lesson. No fish today, but it was a great tour!
We used John for two trips and found him to be very knowledgeable about the places and activities that we did. He has very good English and was easy to understand. He was also able to modify activities according to the weather. Best of all he has a great sense of humour .We have no hesitation in recommending John.
Our family(2 adults & teenager) toured around Hoi An with John on bicycles. We went to some rice fields, local home , the coconut boat ride. We rode around the countryside and through cute backroads/streets and met with some lovely locals to spend time with them in the their vegetable village learning how the locals produce their produce. We had a lovely lunch at the end of the tour and got to sit and chat with John as well. We also had the opportunity to meet and ride on a water buffalo. That was fun! The tour was from approx 8am until about 1pm and John was super informative, helpful and a pleasure to have as a tour guide. He is interested in getting to know about Aussie life and always working on his English! A great guy! A fantastic day out! I would highly recommend using John's services to all our family and friends.
We had a great day with John who took us on a bike tour along the bank of the Cam Kim river through the local farming community. We stopped to have a trip in a rice boat which was fun, it was interesting to see other tourists enjoying the activities like the spinning boats and net throwing. From there we went to a local vegetable village and saw how the farmers grow their crops we also had a very enjoyable cooking lesson and had an amazing lunch with the family John was very knowledgeable and helpful Thid is something we would never have seen without a guide Thank you
My wife and I took an amazing tour with John! Cycling around the surroundings of Hoi An, boating, meeting local farmers, and riding a huge water buffalo was the best way to spend the day. John is incredibly easy to talk to, always ready to answer any questions, smiling and charming. He literally guided us like children at every road crossing (which is especially valuable considering Vietnamese traffic)! We highly recommend excursions with John to everyone, and we will definitely book more tour programs with him again!
We had a great family day with John! He was able to tailor our bike riding to local villages tour to our youngest child’s bike riding experience and we were able to get closer to the real Vietnam, with glimpses of farming life, a ride in the basket boat and tasting of delicious fresh organic food made from the farm we just walked through. Dietary intolerance for gluten free catered for easily. Thoroughly recommend!
Our family of 4 had a fantastic half day bike riding tour with John. He took us along the river and past rice fields explaining how the families help each other with planting. We had a coconut boat ride and tried tossing a fishing net which my son loved. The highlight was visiting the Organic Vegetable Village. We met a couple of the Vietnamese farmers, did some planting and watering. Finally we learnt to make crispy pancake and had a delicious lunch with some produce from the vegetable village. John was a fantastic guide. He kept us safe riding on the roads, taking quieter routes. He is from one of the villages and has all the local knowledge. Highly recommend this tour.
I went around Hoi An with John on a bicycle with my family, we went to some rice fields, went in a coconut boat, drove around the countryside and met with some locals to spend time with them in the vegetable village learning how the locals produce their produce, and we had some cooking lessons and local food too which was a great experience. We also had the opportunity to meet and ride on some water buffalo during the tour, which isn't normally included as John knew the buffalo owner on the tour that we bumped into which was an extra special addition. The tour was from approx 8:30am until about 1:30pm and John was super informative, helpful and a pleasure to have as a tour guide. I would highly recommend using John's services to see the area.
Really enjoyable experience. Really worth while when in Hoi An. Amazing to see the bamboo forest via a basket boat and really lovely to see how the farmers grow the vegetables and herbs. The experience was made especially memorable due to John, our tour guide, who provided lots of information and was very personable. He made sure everyone in the group was comfortable throughout the entire tour. Highly recommend.

From the hands-on farming demonstration, the bamboo boat ride, riding a water buffalo, and biking through the Hoi A countryside this is tour with John is a must when visiting Hoi An.
We did a one day farm/fishing tour with John. Cycling, Bamboo Boats, Cooking Class. It was excellent. He is very informative, knowledgeable about Vietnamese / Hoi A customs and history, considerate, funny, and his English is excellent. Highly recommended.

Loved it!! Our guide John did an awesome job at taking us to his local village where he talked about the local way of living. We had such a fun boat ride on the coconut boat where we had a go at catching crabs & throwing the big hand held fishing net. We met a hard working local farmer at his vegetable garden & here we also stopped for a delicious lunch & a few yarns with some good banter. Then back on our bike journey to our hotel. John was a fabulous guide full of lots of local knowledge & history with a very friendly personality.
