My friends who know their cockails and spirits loved this. I learnt a lot about the production process and the use of local sugar cane. I enjoyed the welcome mojito. However, I am not a straight rhum/rum drinker - but I did my best and could tell the difference of the full, overproof and the aged ones. Super informative and the guide was knowledgeable! Our friends bought 3 bottles and I can’t wait to see what cocktails they produce.

The awakening of the senses continues with the tasting of our range of white rums in our cocktail bar. Through this experience we want to share with you our passion for rum and our commitment to craft production. While this distillery is off the beaten path (please arrange a ride prior to your arrival and departure, there isn’t much cell service there), it’s worth trekking off of the path for. The guide explained every part of the process to our English speaking group in as much detail as possible. She then poured the best spirits in all of Vietnam for us to sample. We got to even try a little bit of rum from fresh off the still (this was my favourite expression). Everyone in my group loved this experience and I would certainly recommend it again.
I had a fun time. The distillery is quite a way outside of Hoi An, so when combining the cost of the travel getting there and the tour itself, it was a bit overpriced. However, we did get to try some lovely Rums and Rhums, and I learnt a fair bit about the distilling process. The staff are very friendly.
If you are looking for something out of the ordinary tourist spots, this is the place to go. 20 minutes by Grab driver from Hoi An old town you find the litten distillery - don't go by motorbike to be able to test the rum yourself!!! Super nice team. Very personal tour through the whole destillation process. Free welcome drink and a very reasonable tasting! We bought two bottles in the end. ;-)
Antoine’s passion for his craft is evident as he walks you through the process of making rum from pure Vietnamese sugar cane. Not only do the products use locally-sourced produce, it also supports the surrounding farming community. It’s only a 30-minute drive from Hoi A town, not too far away from Vin Wonders. While not a big fan of liquor, I enjoyed the visit and learned a lot, and possibly discovered a newfound appreciation for rum! A lovely way to spend a couple of hours.
Great Way To Kill a Hour or Two, Run By Very Nice Couple Of French Guys Who Are Friendly And Very Talented Having Started Off The Distillery Themselves, And You Do a Rhum Tasting At The End. So Don't Ride Your Bike There haha, Highly Recommended
The value for money, 500,000 VND per person, is poor despite the visit was conducted by knowledgeable people. The tour itself takes 15 minutes, tasting 20 minutes and the rest of the hour is waiting time.
Antione was excellent host and has a clear passion for what he is doing. Is was great to see a boutique distillery in Hoi An.
A must-visit that I would highly recommend to my alcoholic friends. My boyfriend and I requested for the tour through facebook as the website is presently iffy. While the distillery is located slightly further away from central Hoi An, it is still accessible - a quick 20 mins drive away. When we arrived, we were greeted by owner Antoine and his puppy. Antoine was hospitable and friendly. He made us a welcome cocktail, before bringing us around his distillery and sharing with us his journey, the distillation process, and some fun facts about rhum vs rum. Thereafter, we had a tasting session where we tried 5 different types of rhum, including his prized aged rhum and the multi-award winning rhum. This experience was truly insightful, yummy, fun, and memorable. Thanks Antoine & we wish you and your partners/team sampan all the success to come!
Very nice tour in a beautiful place. And the Rhum is amazing! A must go if you pass by Hoi An. Thank you to all the team!
Great estate with a pittoresque traditional armagnac pot still and a beautiful craft plant surrounded by a peaceful tropical garden and a beautiful villa on the beach if you want to stay few days on site. The tour starts with a Vietnamese twisted Mojito served by Jacques the Rhumelier who provides a very technical and friendly introduction of the rhum making process hand in hand with rich historical info about Rhum. A tasting at the Rhum tiki bar of the three white rhums will conclude the tour in a very friendly atmosphere.
We visited here after purely stumbling across it via trip advisor. It's approx 20-25 mins outside of Hoi Ann, down a fairly non-descript small road but worth the trip. You are greeted by Jacques who is a very knowledgeable and friendly person. Sampan distillery is a very pleasant and refreshing rum very pure made with only fresh local ingredients, namely locally sourced sugar cane. The rum is a very newish thing in Vietnam, they have 3 strengths, 48%abv, 54%overproof(which won a gold medal in Ssnfranisco awards) and 65% fullproof. Each of the rums are very nice to drink. The company prides itself on being a pioneer in the rum industry in Vietnam of which they won't tarnish the quality and smoothness of their rum to mass produce it. It takes nearly 10 months for the company to produce a bottle from start to finnish. I would definitely recommend it friends and family and would visit here again next time I am in Hoi Ann. They sell their rum all across Asia and will soon being selling it in Europe. Each tour lasts approx 45mins and as soon as you walk through the door your given a lovely cold mohito which is super refreshing, it costs 250,000vnd.
The Sampan distillery is about 25-30 minutes driving distance from Hoi An, in a somewhat nondescript cul de sac off the road. It might be a little difficult recognizing it from the road, but as you walk further into the courtyard you will see the big yellow characteristic building boasting a big sign that reads "DISTILLERIE INDOCHINE." An open-air bar can be seen at the far end. Sampan is a rising rum distillery in Vietnam breaking out of its infancy, and rising to fame with its earned international medals. Jacques walked us through the facility, detailing the process of producing their rum in easy-to-understand terms that even a layperson would comprehend. Besides enjoying rum with the casual night life scene, I really didn't know anything about the intricacies of rum. This tour was highly informative, and I've gained a greater appreciation of rum. The founders have instilled much of their passion into their product. Of particular interest, they sport a local flair of using sugarcane from the nearby Quang Nam province, which makes this rum unique to me. For someone naive to rum prior to arrival, I was able to pick out the complexities of their different rums and develop my own preferences thanks to their education. The people at Sampan are amiable, but also professional. Jacques answered all of my stupid questions without judgment which helped me walk over to the rum side even more. At the end, he was so kind as to get a taxi for us when we were ready to leave. My boyfriend and I are very excited to see their hard work come into further fruition in the years to come, and we hope to see this label break out of Vietnam and become more commercialized! VERY pleasant, chill learning experience. I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves rum or to anyone willing to learn more about it. This is certainly a novelty you ought to add to your itinerary if you're visiting the area!
My girlfriend and I are so happy we learned of this place a few days ago from an awesome bartender in Da Nang. Rum is my favorite and this rum is exquisite! I bought myself a bottle of each and I suggest you do the same.
We spent a great afternoon in the distillerie d’Indochine listening to the story of Rhum Sampan from Antoine and Jacques the two French entrepreneurs who shared with us their passion and the story behind their crazy idea to set-up a distillery in the middle of Vietnam. You’ll be greeted with a welcome mojito and be able to test rum of various grades. Amazing experience just 25mn from HoiAn! 👏🏻🥃☺️
We visited here on our last day in Vietnam and we are so happy we found this place! A warm welcome and an interesting tour of the distillery. We learned a lot about rum and got to taste the products. We also had a couple of tasty drinks and bought some rum as souvenirs. If we ever come back we will definitely visit again!
We visited the distillery while we were in Hoi An with friends. Our guide and bartender, Jacques, was super fun and gave us a great tour. It was really interesting to learn about the process, from the sugar cane harvesting and juicing through to the final bottling. Indochine produces agricole rhum (fermented from sugar cane juice rather than molasses) and they won two gold medals at the 2019 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. If you are interested in spirits, it’s definitely worth a trip to Hoi An.
The chap (sorry I didn't get your name) was really knowledgable and friendly and makes a great mojito. The lady who has just started, good luck you will be fine! This is a rhum distillery which uses sugar cane from local farms to make the rum rather than molasses. By god it is a good rhum at that! The setting is great and about 2 minutes from the beach which is nice. One warning, GRAB costs about 220,000 doing to get there but you need to organise a pick up with the driver to get back as it is outside the normal area. Pardon the pictures, it was chucking it down! Great rhum (from the French, I am spelling it correctly) not available anywhere else Way better than say Havana Club!
Great welcome in a beautiful and very amazing place! Interesting visit (in French) and very nice guide! Tasting appreciated, it makes you want to buy 😁 We recommend, even for non-rum lovers
Very nice end of the day in the distillery
Very friendly welcome by a young student in languages (French) and by Antoine one of the founders of this distillery. A real favorite for this company created by enthusiasts and who do not yield to fashion but respect the canons of an authentic production with local cane producers. Mainly pure agricultural rum juice! A generous tasting at the end of the visit. We want to buy everything, unfortunately the suitcase orders... Fortunately we find the Sampan in France.
A beautiful Enterprise run by French, Welcoming is nice with explanations about the products, tasting of course, just make a place in the suitcase to bring back an excellent rum
Very nice surprising experience Good products and a great welcome Up to the packaging everything is seriously worked out. I recommend
Superb experience in the Sampan distillery. Hortense’s visit and explanations are very clear, we learned a lot. Antoine Poircuitte and his associates won a nice bet because it’s a real success, the rum comes from a local sugarcane production and it’s very good! Go ahead with your eyes closed!
A rare pearl in the heart of Vietnam, far from the classic tourist routes, a must-see! To get there you need to have a means of transport (motorbike rental, for example) or take a taxi, but it is absolutely worth it. For those interested in a minimum of spirits and liqueurs it is a really interesting place, a craft production in the true sense of the word and a tasting that is definitely worth the price (500k Dong the most complete, but there are also cheaper options). The staff is prepared and friendly, the place is suggestive and the rum really good... what more could you ask for?
Very nice, interesting initiative, explanations and tasting Quality product A ballad that changes a little And held by a Frenchman
Very nice visit for lovers of Rum and those who want to learn more about how to distill alcohol, with Hortense who visited us in French. A mojito to start the visit and then to choose: the visit with tasting or without. We discover Antoine's project: to install the first distillery of Rhum in Vietnam. You can also buy different kinds of Rum/Rum from this distillery, which today remains at a "craft" size, including special editions with limited editions. Done.
We very much enjoyed this visit. The distillery on a human scale, the explanations provided by our guide, speaking French. We recommend!!!
Having seen the name of the distillery on the Routard guide we went there on November 27, 2024 afternoon. The distillery is 20km from Hoi Han and it is owned by French. We were well received by Jean, intern. We were served, without being asked, a mojito, I asked with very little rum; then the tour began. The distillery is very small, a still, a few barrels, etc. we quickly went around. Back to the shop to buy a souvenir bottle of Vietnamese rum. Jean offers us a tasting, he automatically puts us 5 glasses and some slices of mango. We only take a few drops of rum, really a few drops and not even in 5 glasses: in the heat, rum between 45 and 55 ° it is hard to swallow when you are not used to it. Then we ask to pay the bottle of 1,700,000 dongs or about 65€. Not given, but for the only rum distilled in Vietnam we accept for our collection. When we look at the invoice before paying, we realize that it is not 1,700,000 dongs that is required but 2,700,000 dongs or about 103€ (depending on the exchange rate of the dong 1 euro worth 26,300 dongs that day). So we point out to John that he was mistaken, that he put a 2 instead of the 1. And then, what is not our SURPRISE when he tells us, without HAVING EVER told us about it and WITHOUT HAVING BEEN ASKED TO PAY AT THE ENTRANCE (as is usually done), that the visit and tasting are paid and at AN EXORBITANT PRICE: 500 000 dongs per person or 19€ which is Vietnamese for a very good meal in an excellent restaurant (for example the Morning Glory of Hoi An) with cocktail as an aperitif. A mojito usually costs 115,000 dongs (€4.50). We've been masterfully fooled by the French. It's the only time during our trip that we got fooled like this because the Vietnamese are honest. Jean still offered us a tasting. I thought he was ashamed to charge us 1,000,000 dongs for a few drops of rum, but that wasn't the reason. Reading the Routard edition 2024/2025 page 313 it is written in italics: Entrance 250,000 dongs (i.e. €9.50). Jean therefore aligned himself with the price announced in the latest edition of Le Routard. I read too quickly the article of Le Routard but at NO TIME and especially not at the entrance we were told that the entrance was paid and at what price! otherwise we would have turned back. Conclusion AVOID visiting THIS DISTILLERY. If you really want to try this rum, look in Hoi An for a restaurant or coffee shop that serves it, it will cost you much, much, much less. For the taxi fare (400,000 dongs A/R) and the visit to the distillery you can treat yourself to TWO MEALS in a good restaurant.
I loved our visit to the distillery We really enjoyed Hortense’s skill level with my husband. We are delighted
Visit the distillery and tasting with Hortense. Great atmosphere and very pleasant welcome. I learned a lot about distilling rum. The setting is paradisiacal and beachfront. If you pass through Hoi An go for it, you might have a great afternoon!
Very nice visit of this Franco-Vietnamese craft activity. Tasting of 6 rums. Excellent explanations during the visit.
Unique in Vietnam. An artisan distillery that since 2019 has valued the sugar cane of 10 Vietnamese families. The rum is excellent. The explanations and visit are very well organized. Thank you Antoine and Julie.
The visit was very interesting, we learned lots of things about rum making! The tasting was great, we highly recommend
Really nice, we received a superb welcome! a very nice visit with a tasting. We especially liked the taste of this rum! Rent a scooter and go there, it's really great. I returned to France and tried a lychee ibiscus rum recommended by some guys there 😉
Super Welcoming with a glass of Mojito followed by a very interesting guided tour. The associates of this rum shop are not greedy with technical comments. They do not hesitate to share their refining experience. They listen to our comments. A tasting that revealed well-made and quality products. We wish them prosperity and advise you to visit.
Superb visit to the Indochina distillery, thank you for this wonderful Welcoming. A welcome cocktail is offered and then we follow up on a superb visit that is possible to do in French. Finally, in style: tasting several rums from the Sampan range and the tasting is even accompanied by fresh fruit is so pleasant! It was a great time during our trip to Vietnam, really interesting to see the steps of still craftsmanship, we really enjoyed it and recommend it to those passing through Hoi An.
A beautiful visit and the meeting of a passionate man at the origin of this distillery, well accompanied by his partner. Natural agriculture almost affected
The passion for rum shared!! Welcoming, setting and especially rum... Don’t hesitate to make a little detour... 😊😊!
While in Hoi An (very nice town with great restaurants by the way), we visited the distillery run by friendly and welcoming French. The place by the sea is very cool, and the local rum is delicious (hard to confine to tasting it must confess, fortunately there is a bar 😅) In short, we recommend the crochet at the distillery!
Welcoming with simplicity and passion of rum. We enjoyed an excellent rum at the distillery. The founders offer a high quality product, thanks to meticulous work. From the process to the tasting, we loved the discovery of this distillery.
We made an interesting tour of the rum production site followed by rum tasting. Of course, we took three bottles with us. We are curious when the dark rhum comes out of the oak barrels on the market.
