Traveling to the land of Fire & Ice was an unforgettable experience. Our guide Claudia was an expert and we felt very comfortable with her and the knowledge she shared with us. This trip is not for the faint of heart or those that are weak in the knees. It felt like walking on the edge of the earth, literally exploring the inner workings of the world and we visited 3 ice caves and even areas unfounded by other companies. Dress warmer than you have ever before and make sure to stretch and bring snacks. Don’t expect a picnic table for lunch either, you’d be foolish to think otherwise. Overall I would love to do it again it’s really hard to describe the whole experience other than “beautiful”. You’ll just have to go see it for yourself.

This hike ranks right up there as one of the most magical experiences of my life! Being able to hike over the largest glacier in Europe (I think I got that right), while stopping along the way to check out several hauntingly beautiful, blue ice caves, was beyond awesome. Our guide, Claudia, was amazing! Her unquestionable expertise and knowledge about the glacier were nicely counterbalanced with a fun and quirky sense of humor. She had us chuckling and smiling the whole way with her hilarious but insightful observations. I still laugh when I watch the video I shot of her explaining the "glacier mice" phenomenon. And, for what it's worth, she took outstanding photos and videos of each group member all along the way. I highly recommend Ice Walkers, in general, and this tour, in particular. It was ultra professional and very well planned with safety in mind, but still allowed for enough freedom and spontaneity to keep things interesting the whole time. Just be prepared for a rather long hike over uneven ground with a bit of scrambling inside the ice caves. Your ankles are in for a workout! But don't let that discourage you - you'll have a smile on your face throughout, and wouldn't we all be better off with stronger ankles? And, one more time, I have to compliment Claudia for an outstanding job. Her knowledge and humor made this ice trek one of the highlights of my life. My friends and family are in awe of my pictures and photos of that day. Stil, hard to believe I was actually there... PS Although I wasn't in his group for the hike (they broke us into 2 smaller parties), I also want to give a shout out to Norris, the other guide. He provided a vey warm and friendly welcome as we were waiting to board the transit vans for the short drive to the starting point. It was clear that he had deep knowledge about glaciers and it was great talking with him about the icy quirks of nearby Diamond Beach. From what I gather, he's a stellar photographer and specializes in leading shutterbugs across the ice. Thanks again, Norris!
An unforgettable hiking glacier tour in Iceland! The service was outstanding from start to finish. Friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. The guide Marcin made us feel safe and comfortable while sharing fascinating information about the glacier. The views were absolutely breathtaking. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Iceland!
This hike was one of the coolest experiences of my life. Ola was a wonderful guide. We we in good hands, felt safe, and got to take lots of great pictures. Would recommend!
We loved the glacier walk and ice cave tour! Our guide Luke “Ice Walker” was excellent. He served as a great educator during the tour and helped us take great pictures! We visited 2 ice caves and an ice slot canyon carved by the water. The caves change over time and the guides do a great job of scouting new caves to include for the tour. We would absolutely do it again on a return trip.
This was our favorite experience in Iceland! Glacier + hiking is not something that sounded fun to me, but my husband really wanted to see the ice caves. 6 hours was the perfect amount of time for this tour, 3 hours would’ve felt too rushed. The ice caves were gorgeous! I don’t know where else in the world you could see something like them so 100% you should add this to your list of things to do in Iceland. Martin was such a fun guide and was always giving us information on the caves. We got to see 2 caves and a crevasse. Just be aware that this was somewhat of a physical activity since we had around 2 hours of climbing up hill. Definitely worth it!
Our guides Lucaz and Karolina were phenomenal. They were very well organized, safe, patient, knowledgeable, and friendly! We were provided with helmets and crampons. We met at the parking lot and took a shuttle to the glacier with a group of about 10. We were originally booked on a day that was forecasted to have rain and strong winds. The team messaged us in advance and recommended we change dates if possible. We are so grateful they did because it led to the perfect engagement! Lucaz went above and beyond, separating the group from my partner and I for a moment so that my fiancee could propose. He took the best photos! Highly recommend - once in a life time experience!!!
Great experience! We had Marcin as a guide and he provided lots of information about the area, how the caves form and most importantly some beautiful spots on the glacier! Thank you
A real Icelandic experience in the greatest european glacier. Something really amazing with two guides, Robert and Martin, both nice and professional. Amazing experience.
Excellent experience, tour organized down to the smallest detail. The guide is knowledgeable and you can tell they enjoy what they do
Robert and Martin were friendly, made us feel welcome, provided us with clear explanations and made the experience very enjoyable! All with stunning views!
I recently had the opportunity to take part in the glacier walk and ice cave tour, and it was an unforgettable experience. The entire trip was extremely well-organized, and our guide made sure we felt safe and comfortable at every stage. The glacier walk was both thrilling and educational — we learned a lot about the local geology and the formation of ice structures. The highlight of the tour was definitely the ice cave. Its crystal-blue walls and unique shapes were breathtaking, and our guide gave us plenty of time for photos and exploration. I truly appreciated the balance between adventure and safety throughout the whole experience.
Exceptional tour. Tour guide Martin was brilliant, very knowledgeable and reassuring making you feel safe. Saw some spectacular views, even after there being torrential rain and snow which had cleared.
Wow. I can’t even begin to explain what a wonderful time we had with Ice Walkers. We booked the glacier hike and ice cave tour and it was truly phenomenal. Not only was the scenery magnificent but Martin and his colleague Mike were so knowledgeable and kind. They made us feel comfortable and safe. I have a fear of heights and some moderate claustrophobia. Martin eased my mind and did not pressure me to do anything that I was not comfortable with. Due to his kindness, knowledge and willingness to help I ended up completing every aspect of the tour and was SO glad I did. I truly enjoyed every moment of this tour and would recommend Ice Walkers to anyone. I appreciated the small group numbers. Due to the length of tour we booked (6 hours) we were able to explore areas of the glaciers otherwise missed by the other tour companies. 100/10 experience!!
We had a blast! So far, the best experience in Iceland. The hike was about 6 hours in total but, don't worry, it's not difficult at all. We visited two caves, and each one was more stunning than the other. Our guide, Marcin, was excellent—super friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the glacier. We were lucky to have caves completely to ourselves, no crowds at all! The company planned the timing perfectly so we could avoid the busy times. The blue caves were absolutely breathtaking. The glacier changes every day, so new caves form while others collapse—don’t believe other tours that claim they’ll take you to “THE Blue Diamond Cave.” Every tour is unique, and that’s what makes it so special. We’re really glad we chose the longer tour—it gave us plenty of time to explore and fully enjoy the glacier’s incredible beauty. Highly recommend this experience!
Nice experience with decent hike and impressive caves. Martin explained everything very well and is a very pleasant person. Would recommend!
Martin was our guide for a really great day hiking with crampons on the ice and visiting a spectacular ice cave. Martin is a top notch guide giving you what you need and what you want - keeping it safe, providing some interesting info and answering questions. It was fun to have the experience of hiking on a glacier and the cave was awe inspiring. The photos do not lie! (Two things worth noting: wear hiking boots that come up above the ankle for using crampons and bring yourself something to eat. Perhaps they listed these things but if they did I missed it and felt lucky I happened to be prepared).
We took the glacier and ice cave walk with Ice Walkers Tour and had an excellent experience. Our guide, Marcin, was friendly, helpful, and accommodating, ensuring we never felt rushed. He prioritized our safety while also making sure we enjoyed ourselves. When I accidentally dropped my phone on the glacier, Marcin managed to find it, for which I was extremely grateful. The tour itself was incredible—we explored a crystal blue ice cave and even safely entered shallow crevasses. It was a truly adventurous and amazing trip. The small group size, with only eight people, made it even better. I highly recommend Ice Walkers Tour for anyone visiting Iceland.
Amazing trip, every minute was worth it. Beautiful crystal ice caves, pleasant hike on a glacier with a lot of fun facts told by our friendly guide Marcin. Defenitely recommended !!
A wonderful experience, we visited two caves and several moulins. The guides were very attentive to our safety and explained many interesting things. Thank you for everything, we will carry this experience in our hearts!
An incredible experience. The ice cave is fantastic, there's more than enough time inside, and the trek is easy. I would recommend it 100%. The guide was super friendly
It was the highlight of a really beautiful trip. It is a good hike. Not hard, not too long. The material provided by the guides is good quality. The ice caves and the glacier were breathtaking. Even apparently for the end of the season. Cannot imagine what it looks like in the full winter season. The blue ice in the caves and the large parts of the glacier are a sight to behold. The two lovely tour guides provides information and fun facts during the whole thing. Even normal chitchat and discussions were very pleasant. Plus they are great at taking pictures of couples when asked. 👍🏻 The herd of rain deers we saw at the way back at the end was the cherry on top. 5👦🏻🐑/5
We had the best time on this tour! Marcin and Ola are super experienced and really made us feel like ice explorers. We had a sunny day and got to explore a lot of the glacier, which was amazing! Then we went into the caves and could not believe how blue it was. We even got to see an extra cave in the end because our amazing guides made some extra time! Would recommend Icewalkers to anyone, but especially those with an adventurous spirit looking to go where the crowds don't!! 🤍
IceWalkers took us on the best tour EVER!!!! Marcin and Ola were super kind and made sure we had the best experience possible. We were lucky with the weather so they took us really far into the glacier and saw some of the most amazing views I have ever seen. The we went into the caves and they were super careful to give us enough time for photos and just to appreciate the beauty. We even got to see an extra cave at the end of the tour! They went above and beyond to give us an amazing experience and we are super grateful! 🥰✨ Cannot recommend enough! ❤️
Absolutely incredible. My favourite experience to date. Couldn’t recommend this company enough, they went above and beyond to ensure we got the best possible experience. They took us off the beaten track and were incredibly knowledgeable. I wouldn’t do the tour/hike with any other company!
Wonderful experience walking over a glaciar and going into an ice cave, totally worth it. Our guides, Martin and Hola, made it even better.
An amazing tour on the Vatnajökul glacier. About 4h30 on the glacier and the ice cave. Our guide took us to the best spot on the edge of the glacier with a great view on the jokusarlon lagoon. Martin was very nice and explained everything about the history of the glacier. The 4 frenchies.
It was an amazing hike and a unique experience! The guides Martin and Ola are very friendly and always tried to make sure that our experience was great. Thank you so much for that!
The views were amazing!!! Our guides were knowledge and so so generous and kind. They helped us feel prepared and totally safe the entire time. Marty and Ola were both wonderful. They both stopped at various times to help travelers from other groups struggling with their crampons. They showed us many locations and took us to a beautiful cave. I’ll be recommending to any friends and family I know that come to Iceland. I felt like we had a private more “local” feel compared to the mega buses in the lot as well.
Very kind and very fun, perfect amount of difficulty. Would 100 percent do again and recommend others to do it as well. Thank you
We weren’t able to go on a tour with this company but I did my research and they are a nice, local, small scale company. Carefully of the massive tour companies or tour company aggregates …. I think the experience would have been amazing. I communicated with them a lot and they were prompt and helpful. Very sorry we couldn’t make the experience happen.
What an amazing experience this tour was to explore the ice, walking on the glacier, hearing the tiny pieces of ice like glass rattling down the glacier as the wind blew around you, the shapes and shades of color in the frozen landscape and caves. Puff, very good time. The whole feel of the tour was very enjoyable, and the pace of the tour felt just right, with us really being able to take in the natural beauty while also continuing exploring. Marcin was an excellent, knowledgeable, and personable tour guide, and his way of leading and pacing the group led to me enjoying the tour even more. I am very pleased to have had this experience, especially with IceWalkers Tours.
Best Iceland experience I could have asked for. Our expert tour guide Martin took excellent care of us and lead our small group to several stunning views. First we explored an ice cave in the glacier. Martin carefully selected our timing in this cave so we could have an uncrowded experience. Continuing the activity we geared up and started hiking up the glacier to more stunning views overlooking the glacier and lagoon below. Truly an amazing experience, highly recommended.
Best glacier experience ever! Combination of walk and ice caves. Pace of the hike, organization, storytelling about glaciers and Iceland in general was amazing. I would chose IceWalkers again, recommend Marcin as a guide!
My wife booked us with Ice-walkers tour company. We chose this company as they are a small company with small groups and offered a unique personal experience. Once we donned our supplied crampons, safety harness and helmets we set off for a hike up the glacier. Our tour guide Marcin moved along at a nice pace which was comfortable for everyone. On the glacier we explored ice caves, ice canyons and hiked to where the glacier met the ocean. The glacier experience was fantastic! At the end of the hike we explored an ice cave which was recently discovered. Marcin guided us around the cave and was able to do this in a way where our group of 7 were away from other groups who were also visiting. We would highly recommend this company for those looking for more of a personal experience.
This was a fantastic experience. Our guide informed us upon our arrival a new cave had opened up. He asked if we wanted to change our plans a bit, more time in the cave and less on the glacier, from his excitement you could tell the cave was worth the extra time and it was. He got us past the big tour groups and into much more secluded sections of the cave. We were a small group, and the experience was very personal. After that we took a long walk across the glacier as promised, and saw many amazing things as well. He is a mom and pop operation, and with that you get a very personal experience from him. 5+ stars in my book
This is a small tour operation, that caters to keeping the groups small, and with that you get a much greater experience in my opinion. Our guide explained that our tour had some flexibility, and made sure we were all in agreement. When we arrived he informed us that a new icecave had opened up, and that he was suggesting due to the high winds we spend more time in the cave. With that, he took us into the cave, past the large groups, and back into the cave were only small tour groups can go. It was quite amazing. He was well versed, know his stuff, and was also kept us safe. We saw things few others get to see. And then we headed up the glacier as promised. With this, and the weather conditions, he worked hard with the group to make us all feel safe and secure, while giving us an opportunity to explore the glacier itself. 5+ rating from me.
Absolutely amazing tour! Marcin was our guide for the ice cave adventure, and he was phenomenal. His enthusiasm for the glacier and the unique formations made the experience feel intimate and educational. Unlike larger tours that rush through the experience, we had plenty of time to explore the cave and take photos without feeling hurried. The ice caves itself were breathtaking. This is truly a unique way to experience Iceland’s natural beauty, and I would do it again in a heartbeat!
I can’t say enough good things about the ice cave tour we took with Marcin! The caves we explored were absolutely stunning. Marcin was not only knowledgeable but also incredibly personable, making the entire tour feel like an adventure with a friend. He explained the science behind the glacier and pointed out interesting features along the way. The colors of the ice were mesmerizing, especially under the clear winter sky. If you're considering a glacier tour, go for this one! It’s a small group, and the experience is unmatched. Highly recommended!
I'm just back from Iceland and done this trip last week with IceWalkers Tours and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who would like to experience a little bit more than a short walk to a crowded ice cave on the glacier. We had Martin as our guide and he was very friendly and helpful as well as being very safety conscious. He was knowledgeable and informative about the Glacier and this made the hike all the more interesting and enjoyable. The remote cave that we hiked to was absolutely stunning and we had the cave to ourselves for all the time we were there with lots of time to have lunch in the cave and take as many photos as we all wished to take with Martin helping out with that too. It was as good in reality as it is in the photos on their website and the colours are stunning. We visited some crevasses on the way back to the start of the hike and some other caves also. Seeing the amount of people in the other caves made me realise how lucky I was to have went with IceWalkers and hiked that bit further on the glacier to have the amazing experience in an ice cave and having it to ourselves for most of the time we were there I will be telling any of my friends who go to Iceland to not miss out on doing this trip with IceWalkers. It was definitely one of the top highlights of my trip to Iceland. IceWalkers are a great tour company to go with and I would have absolutely no hesitation in booking another trip with them whenever I return to Iceland. Thank you Martin!
Had the amazing opportunity to go on a glacier hike with IceWalkers. I was a little apprehensive about the hike but our guide was excellent and put my mind at ease. This is an unforgettable experience, I highly recommend this to everyone as a part of your trip in Iceland.
Wonderful experience overall! We did this as a family of two adults and a teenager. This trip consists of about an hour drive in a super-jeep towards the glacier, then some prep time (putting on harnesses, helmets, crampons) and finally a few hours walking up the glacier towards ice caves (you don’t need to be a Tri-athlete but you need to be in decent physical shape!) We were 10 guests so it was really nice to be in a small group. Our guide Luke was wonderful making stops when we needed to catch a breath and very knowledgeable in giving us Glacier information. We felt very safe with him. When looking for an ice cave tour where you actually get to see the blue ones - this is the tour you want to do!!
This is by far the best glacier hike tour you will get and stands out from all of the other tour companies as you hike further over the glacier and they take you to remote/secluded ice caves that no other tours will take you to and they are truly amazing. The caves we visited were crystal blue and were the only group in all the cabes we visited. Marcin was our tour guide and was highly knowledgeable and very easy to talk to. We had a group of 10 on our tour which was a good size and they supply all crampons and harnesses for the hike. I would highly recommend this tour.
Superb hike across the glacier to a quiet remote cave. Excellent knowledgeable guide. You won’t see anyone else and the cave was a perfect blue on a sunny winters day. Highly recommended, would do it again.
I've already had the opportunity to see an ice cave, but this trip was much more interesting than the others. Good organization and care, the guide didn't rush us, he was helpful and talked a lot about the glacier. I would like to repeat it <3
Guide was very enthusiastic, well prepared and eager to answer all questions. He showed us couple caves. Overall very good experience, can recommend if you are looking for more than quick photos.
We've especially searched for a second ice cave experience, since we wanted to truly hike the glacier and *earn* us the blue ice cave views, instead of getting directly to the entrance by superjeep. The hike with Marcin truly delivered on and even exceeded our highest hopes. We've hiked for hours on pure ice, always guided safely but never rushed. It was also the very definition of a small group experience. Of course you should dress appropriately, be healthy and fit and bring ankle covering hiking shoes (!), but my partner and I are no experienced hikers nor runners and we were perfectly able to enjoy every step of the tour. PS: The fotos you see are truly unedited! We will never forget this adventure, thank you Marcin and the whole team.
Guides Martin is professional and kind, always pay attention to the location and safety of the team members. The walk time to return more than two hours, will be a little tired but you can see the blue ice hole, beautiful! Very worth a day trip to Iceland, great recommendation!
A great experience! Really Martin and Ola tried hard to make it an unforgettable hike, first we went to the blue cave, where we had all the time we wanted to take pictures, an hour we were approximately. Then we put on the crampons and started the glacier walk, they took us to all the corners where the rivers had formed caves and it was wonderful. You can tell they are professional people and they like their work. RecommendedExperience!
Very nice guys, kind, prepared. I recommend the experience absolutely!! Absolutely nothing tiring, but surprisingly fascinating
