Excellent experience. Our favorite thing we did in Iceland, so unique! Our guide Susanna went above and beyond. Would highly recommend.

Itinerary
We start from this area
All out tours are inside Vatnajökull national park
On the way between Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and the glacier, we drive past Diamond Beach (Fellsfjara) — a black sand beach where icebergs that have calved from the lagoon drift out to sea and wash back ashore, glittering against the dark volcanic sand. A perfect photo stop on the return.

Highlight of our 10-day ring road adventure! Our guide was knowledgeable and took us to 4 different caves. They were all incredible, beautiful and unforgettable. We hiked up on the glacier for a good bit and could see the beauty of Iceland all around. The hike isn’t too difficult and it’s definitely worth it to see the beautiful ice caves. Can’t recommend this tour enough!
Susana was our wonderful guide, friendly giving us safe instructions and background information before going into each ice cave. More importantly, she made all the efforts for us to visit as many sites as possible, making this trip totally worthwhile. Highly recommend this agency and Susana!
The tour was the most impressive thing I did in Iceland. I arrived a little late, and they waited for me very kindly. The equipment they provided was great, the tour was magnificent, and the guide, Javier, is excellent. It was the best experience—I highly recommend it.
We had a wonderful time on our tour with Fusey (spelling?!?) He was very knowledgeable and attentive to all of us in the group. I would highly recommend this tour, it is a bit strenuous and combines a lot of excitement with a tad bit of fear!
Steinar was such a great guide and this trek wa sjust incredible, well worth it. The ice caves are incredible beautiful, once in a life time experience!
Amazing experience, Stephan went out of his way to give our small group (6people) an individual experience. He avoided other tour groups doing similar excursions. And we had a significant amount of time in the blue ice caves without other groups. Additionally, this tour was more extensive than that of other operators. It’s advisable that you’re a confident hiker and appropriately dressed.
Absolutely wonderful! Amazing views of both the glacier and ice cave. Our tour guide, Stefan, was very friendly. Not only did he take the time to teach the science behind the glacier and its history, but also talk to us individually to get to know us better.
If you enjoy the outdoors, fresh air, easy to moderate hiking and want to see unending stunning views, THIS is the tour for you. This was the first planned thing we did on our self driving tour of the southern coast of Iceland and it was definitely a highlight of our trip!!! Our tour guide, Claudia, was very knowledgeable, very personable and took GREAT photos of us with our own cameras, once we got to the actual cave. The hike itself was maybe 2-3 miles round trip, but it was filled with unending, breathtaking scenery! You are provided with a harness (just in case you fall, you aren't tethered to anyone or anything while hiking/exploring though), crampons or spikes, and a helmet, which you must wear for the full duration of the hike. The hike is up a slight incline but our guide was very kind and asked us to let her know if we needed to stop for a moment. On our way up, the sun was out and there was actually very little wind, so many of us were warm and were peeling off our layers. On the way down the wind picked up quite a bit but was very tolerable if you were dressed properly. I wore wool high socks, long underwear, leggings and snow pants on the bottom and a thermal undershirt, sherpa lined fleece flannel and a waterproof/windproof rain coat over that on top, along with a balaclava (just around my neck), knit hat and had my coat hood up and I was perfectly warm, even with the wind blowing! I also had on puffy mittens to keep my hands warm. Every bit of the hike was stunning and beautiful! The information about glaciers and ice caves was very interesting and the ice cave itself was so interesting and amazing with the sunlight shining through it! The cave itself was much smaller than I thought it would be. It's not a large or long cave that you walk through for a long distance. It's just on the edge of the side of the glacier where the glacier is melting from underneath. The space we went into was maybe 1000 square feet (but I'm not great at estimating size). We couldn't walk through it. We entered and exited at the same spot. It was more like a large room that we were able to go in and explore. It was still stunning and beautiful and made for amazing pictures! The only tricky thing was trying to get your pictures without other tourists in the background. They do try to limit the tour groups to only two groups in the cave at a time. Outside of our time in the cave, Claudia also took us to the edge of another cave that we couldn't go into because it was unstable, however we could still see the cool ice formations and take pictures from the outside edge of it. She also took us to a large crevice in the snow on the way down, which made for more great photos. One of my favorite parts of the hike outside of the cave and the amazing views on the hike was between the parking lot and the glacier was a small waterfall that you hike past and over. It was not a large waterfall, but it trickled into a very peaceful babbling brook. Overall I loved everything about our experience and was very thankful that we had great weather for our tour! I would definitely go on this tour again!
The entire experience was surreal. Stefan was an amazing guide and gave great information on the glacier as well as history of Iceland. The trek was difficult and arduous but when I completed it I felt the most fantastic sense of accomplishment. The endorphin rush helped too! The ice cave itself was majestic and awe-inspiring. I’ve never seen anything like it before and it definitely was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.
Incredible experience on the glacier and visiting the ice caves with Stefan our guide, who imparted great knowledge not only about Jokulsarlon but also Iceland in general. It takes skill to manage a tour group with varying abilities and levels of enthusiasm. Walking on the glaciers and seeing the ice caves was an other worldly experience - one that I shall never forget. Highly recommend this tour company for this exceptional experience
An absolutely fantastic experience that will be remembered fondly for years. The company itself was very knowledgeable and accommodating to all requests. Can't recommend enough.
Had the best time with our guide! He was lovely, calm, humble and was a pleasure to have been in his group. I’m sorry we didn’t catch your name, but you’re the one in the red jacket! Fantastic experience. Cave was a little smaller than I imagined (if this was small can’t imagine how much smaller others are) but other than than, enjoyed every bit.
Hands down one of the highlights of our trip! I've been to Iceland before and did a glacier tour, but this one blew that experience out of the water. The blue ice caves were absolutely stunning. It was also such a fun experience trekking across the ice in crampons. Huge thanks to our guide who was so friendly and made sure we had the best time while staying safe. She even took the best photos of our group! If you’re going to Iceland, you HAVE to do this tour.
Great tour with a knowledgeable and funny guide. We loved our day with Stefan and would highly recommend this tour.
We had an otherworldly experience, it was amazing. The landscape was surreal and although the hike was a bit strenuous, our guide gauged our fitness level and paced the trek. He also made sure to get us ample time at all the view points along the way and in the ice cave while avoiding as many other groups as possible. You could tell everyone's safety was of utmost importance. They provided proper gear and educated us on the area as we journied along. Would highly recommend!
Be ready to be wowed by this experience, the sights were breathe taking. You couldn't ask for a better your guide than Dana, he was knowledgeable, patient and read what the group needed.
The guide was friendly and knowledgeable. He took us all over the glacier to multiple caves. We had a small group and this was a highlight to our trip.
Beautiful trip, informative guide, enjoyed spending the day on the glacier! Walked about 5.5 miles and spent roughly 6 hours exploring.
Wonderful tour with nice guide, although today is not the sunny day, but we safely enjoy a lot with beautiful views.
5 out of 5. The guide is patient and knowledgeable. He changes the route to avoid crowded swiftly and make sure there are enough time for picture in the amazing blue ice cave and any other stops.
The most amazing glacier walk and the blue cave experience. Our guide Stefan was very professional , entertaining and super personable. We had an amazing time. I recommend this to 150%.
The glacier walk and the blue cave was the most amazing experience ever. Exceeded my expectations . Our guide Stefan was beyond great.
Truly the highlight of our 10 day trip to Iceland! Really glad we chose this company. They offer small groups, knowledgeable local guides and they time the cave+moulin visits perfectly to avoid crowds. The hike itself was beautiful and we visited one ice cave and 2 moulins. This will depend on the season of course, but I'm sure Glacier Trips will always show you the most beautiful places within hiking distance.
Amazing experience. Stefan was an amazing guide Would recommend to everyone to have a hike in the glacier. Ice cave was exceptional
Amazing experience walking across the glacier and into the ice cave. Stefan was a brilliant guide who is not only knowledgeable but clearly cares for our planet. I highly recommend the longer tour - it is truly amazing.
What an experience!!! Highly recommend, this was an unforgettable moment for my sister and I. Our group was incredible and a huge shout out to our tour guide ( Fusi, not sure if that is spelt right haha ). The weather wasn’t on our side for the day, but we had many laughs. So worth it!
The tour was awesome. Our guide Stefan was very knowledgeable and explained everything well. He covered a wide range of topics, from polar bear migration from Greenland, local farming, Iceland history and of course everything about glaciers and ice caves. He also had a great sense of humour and his dad jokes were .. well dad jokes. We spent hours on the ice. The blue cave was outstanding and looked as good as the photos in the tour promotions.
The trip was amazing, very well explained by Hofn, which did a great job taking us to the ice caves. We were a small group (6) and the only ones able to go to the ice caves since other groups were scare of the bad weather forecast. It was an incredible experience overall.
One of the best experiences I have had. Great guide, incredible experience with caves and glacier. Do it.
this was my 2nd time with glacier trips. They are local they operate with small groups only and know when and how you can avoid the crowds in the ice caves. Amazing. looking forward to another time. PS: all the 3 times we got to visit different caves
Fantastic experience and the tour guide was fantastic. Small group of 6 and we walked maybe an hour on the glacier to the ice cave . We were very lucky with the weather as you can see in the photos . We were the only group in the cave which was great.
I did the glacier walk + ice cave tour pack with my wife and a couple of friends in early November/2025 and it was simply amazing. Our guide Steinar was extremely helpfull, friendly and made sure to guarantee that everybody was feeling safe throughout the whole trip. Our group had a total of 8 people, so it was not too crowded and Steinar always tried to go to the caves when they were not too busy, ensuring that we could enjoy our time. I recommend a lot to do this experience with Glacier Trips! The caves are exactly like what we see in the pictures!
The tour is 5-6 hours long but I say that this is meant for the slow walkers. It shouldn’t be challenging whatsoever. Maybe the weather helped a lot but it was worth to do cause when would you see the mulan (I don’t know the spelling :)) and the ice cave at the same time? Highly recommended! But I would make sure you wear warm!
We enjoyed our tour with Stefan as he was incredibly knowledgeable with a great sense of humor. Stefan was always mindful everyone’s safety and even timed our visits to the ice caves so as not to be crowded with other tour groups. He took photos for us and moved at a pace that worked for everyone. Amazing views and a memorable experience! Highly recommend.
I had an incredible experience on the Ice Cave and Glacier excursion! Our guide, Stefan, was absolutely amazing knowledgeable, patient, and so passionate about what he does. He made the entire adventure both educational and fun, explaining the history of the glacier and how the ice caves form, all while making sure everyone felt safe and comfortable on the ice. The scenery was breathtaking, walking through the blue ice and seeing the layers up close was something I’ll never forget. Stefan also gave us plenty of time for photos and made sure we got the best views. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Iceland! It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and having Stefan as your guide makes it even more special.
Moderate to difficult is a fair description.. it would be too much if you were not use to walking a long way, up an ice hill, with crampons. The cave was beautiful and worth the hike. Stephan was our guide and he was excellent, made us feel comfortable, was patient and helped us feel safe. He also had a ton information about the glacier as well. He was as big a part of the fun as the cave itself.
This 8 mile glacier walk was incredible; expertly led by our guide, Steffan. There were only eight of us. When we got to some caves, we saw some huge groups and we’re so happy not to be a part of them. We ate our lunch and waited for them to be finished and had the cave all to ourselves. I knew we would see a huge blue ice cave, which was unreal but was surprised we got to go down about 20 feet into an ice moulin. The colors were bright blue and surreal. On the hike, I stepped into a crevice and fell. Stefan was prepared and took care of me. This was a moderately difficult hike and so rewarding. I did a lot of research and definitely made the right decision and choosing this company.
My wife and I had an amazing time exploring Ice Caves on Jokulsarlon Glacier with our guide, Laura. She was very knowledgeable about the the glacier as well as a wide range of other topics! She was very funny and made our trip very enjoyable. She spaced our group out so that we could have the Ice Caves to ourselves and helped us to take some amazing pictures with the blue ice behind us. Thank you for making our trip to Iceland unforgettable!
My husband and I did the glacier hike and ice cave tour, and it was absolutely incredible! The views were unreal. Walking on the glacier felt like being on another planet, and the ice caves were just breathtaking. Our guide was amazing super knowledgeable, and made the whole experience feel safe and fun. We learned so much about the glacier and Iceland’s landscape while also having a great adventure. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip! highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Iceland!
Great experience with a fantastic guide Steffan. He had a lot of knowledge of glaciers and Iceland in general and we could have listened to his talk all day. Would definitely recommend.
The glacier tour was nothing short of magical! The scenery was absolutely breathtaking — from the shimmering icebergs floating in the lagoon to the dramatic glacier backdrop, every moment felt like a scene from a movie. The tour was well-organized and the guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and made sure everyone felt safe and comfortable throughout. We learned so much about the glacier, the lagoon, and the surrounding area, and had plenty of time to take in the views and snap some incredible photos. This experience was truly a highlight of our trip to Iceland. If you're visiting the south coast, a glacier tour at Jökulsárlón is an absolute must — awe-inspiring, peaceful, and unforgettable. Highly recommend Glacier Trips as they did a phenomenal job overall for our tour. *To note, our tour group is 8 max which is nice compared to the other Glacier tour groups where they have 10+ people in 1 tour.
Our guide was very helpful and made sure we were safe but had a wonderful experience. It was on our bucket list and made an unforgettable experience.
The experience was amazing! We got to walk on the glacier and visit two ice caves! The guide was nice and let us know everything we need to stay safe.
Maria was a fabulous guide And very accommodating and educational. She paced everything to fit the group’s fitness level and the ideal timing to avoid other tours happening. My teens loved the experience. They got all the photo opportunities they wanted. When my oldest accidentally got his boots soaking wet at diamond beach 30 minutes before the tour they were able to find boots for us to rent for him. Highly recommend
My family of five (two adults, three teenagers) loved our glacier tour and ice cave hike with Stefen. This is the excursion that I did the most research for on our trip to Iceland. All of the options can feel overwhelming - but I chose it specifically because it was a small group tour and it was meet-on-location. After seeing the massive group tours lined up all around us, I knew I'd picked the perfect option for our family. There were only 9 of us and we were able to really enjoy and experience the glacier and cave closely without dealing with a huge crowd. Stefen is very knowledgeable, funny, kind, and laidback. I would not hesitate to book any tours with this company and when we come back (which we definitely want to do one summer!) we'd choose Glacier Tours over any other options. If you are adventurous and doing a self-driving tour of Iceland, I would 100% recommend booking this tour to get the best experience possible.
The hike was one of the highlights of our trip. Our guide Stefan was great and kept us laughing with his dad jokes the entire time. Throughout the tour he fed us interesting tidbits of information about the glacier and the surrounding landscape. On top of that he was an excellent creative photographer director and gave us some of the best shots of the trip.
This is the glacier tour that you want to go on if you are interested in really taking the time to explore both an ice cave as well as many other interesting features in the glacier ice! It was a great experience. Stefan was a fantastic guide, very knowledgeable and personable. He took us to parts of the ice cave that the shorter tours did not have time to reach, and then also led us across the glacier ice. It takes a decent level of fitness to climb up - you are hiking in and then up the glacier, but entirely worth it for an amazing experience! Also, it is absolutely worth it to pay the extra for a small group tour. The big groups hardly had time, we paused and everyone was able to explore and get pictures. The maximum group size for this one is 8, and we were able to check out features that the larger groups missed.
The tour guide was very attentive to the groups needs. His name is Stephan. The blue ice cave is spectacular and the glacier walk was amazing as well. I recommend these activities and this tour company.
Our glacier hike to several ice caves was amazing! The group was a good size - 12 people. Stephan, our guide, was great. He made sure everyone was safe, shared so much information about the glaciers we were traveling and sprinkled in just the right amount of "dad" jokes. The glacier walking was moderately strenuous. We visited a blue ice formation that was very cool and 3 different ice caves. Stephan wasn't satisfied with our experience after the first 2 caves, so he asked if we wanted to spend a little extra time and see another. I would highly recommend Glacier Trips. They are a smaller, local company who really cares about both the environment and the quality of your experience.
