I had a wonderful canoeing experience through the mangroves! The scenery was beautiful and peaceful, and our guide Maria was super friendly, helpful, and made the whole tour really enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this experience!

We had booked a mangrove experience on canoes for the morning. The agency provided us with all the necessary gear and information, as well as a great guide. We do not speak Japanese, so we were looking for an English speaking tour and they found one for us. Our guide Ryoma even gave us some interesting information about the island wildlife while we were going to the river. Then we all got onto our canoes and went down the river and into the mangrove forest. There we got off our canoes and explored the coast on foot. It was very interesting and also exciting. The river is quite calm so even though we had little experience with canoes, we had no problems. Overall a very nice way to spend the morning and explore the more wild parts of Iriomote.
Shogo was very friendly. He made things easy for the goup.
Thank you for the amazing tour! We had a great time. The guide was friendly and we really enjoyed it. Thank you!
This trip was far beyond my expectations! Our guide, Ryoma, was professional, friendly, and always willing to help. The SUP experience was amazing and so much fun. Everything was well organized, and we had a fantastic time. I highly recommend Pipi’s tours and would definitely join another one on my next visit.
Thank you Ryoma for this wonderful tour through the mangrove ! We had a great time
The 2 hour mangrove canoe tour was very good, we went quite deep amongst the mangroves and the guide gave explanations of the different varieties of tree and the creatures living by the river (in Japanese and English, though the detail in the English explanations likely depends on which guide you get). Life jackets etc. all provided as well as changing rooms and warm showers. Canoes are all 2-person so going as a couple or group divisible by 2 is recommended. Suitable for beginners, but might be tiring if it's windy. Note: we originally planned to do the longer tour that goes to a waterfall, but it was cancelled due to strong winds, so check the weather when booking and be aware the tour may have to change.
Really nice canoe ride to the mangroves in subtropical rain. Special thanks to Shaggy as my personal guide in English 😎
We had a very nice experience! Our guide Ryoma was very patient and kind. He did a lot of nice photos of us and shared them afterwards with us and explained also a lot about the mangroves. I can only recommend the tour!
Ryoma is a very dedicated, patient, and professional guide. He explained everything clearly in English throughout the whole tour, and always answered our questions carefully. He also helped us take photos all the time, which we really appreciated. Since most people in our group were foreigners, even though some could speak a little Japanese, he still chose to communicate in English so everyone could understand. I joined the tour by myself, but the whole experience felt very relaxed and enjoyable. Highly recommend joining this tour!
Thank you for being flexible because our ferry was cancelled were too late for the morning tour, but once we arrived and contacted the company they could add us to another group so we could do the mangrove tour right away! We were happy with that. The tour was well organized. The guide makes photos during the tour for you. He explains in english about the island and its mangroves. The mangroves were beautiful. I wish we canoed a bit further and longer. After the tour we could take a quick shower before they dropped us back at the port.
Sota and Hiro were charismatic, on time, capable, and fun. We learned much about the mangroves and enjoyed the personalised experience. We had booked a different tour, but the weather precluded it; instead of cancelling the company proactively provided us with options - not many would have, and we got a better experience so well done team. They knew what they were doing, were considerate and helpful. Equipment was in good shape. Totally worth taking a tour with this company.
Great experience in an amazing nature, very peaceful, quiet moment with a great coach, Iriomote in general has a beautiful nature
A very enjoyable paddle through the mangroves. The tour is advertised as half day and you’re on the water for ~1hr. Our guide Shogo was full of positive energy and provided interesting information about the mangroves in quality English (he was bouncing between English and Japanese on this tour - quite a feat!) He was helpful to a lady who had never paddled before and attached her kayak to his. Note: you must paddle across the main river to reach the mangrove area - if it’s windy it could be difficult. My only complaint about this tour - and I suspect it’s the same for all companies - solo travellers want a single kayak, not a double! (at least I wasn’t paired with a stranger)
We joined a half-day tour that was very well organized from start to finish. Our guide was friendly, fun, and extremely knowledgeable, explaining everything about the local nature and wildlife in an engaging way. The pickup service was punctual and convenient, and having access to a hot shower after the tour was a great plus. Everything was interesting, enjoyable, and well worth it — highly recommended for anyone visiting Iriomote! 🚣♂️🌴✨
My experience on the mangrove canoe tour was absolutely wonderful. The natural beauty of the area is stunning, offering a peaceful and scenic journey. Our guide, Kono, was exceptional. He was incredibly friendly, provided clear instructions, and shared his knowledge of the ecosystem. He also went out of his way to take fantastic photos and videos for everyone, capturing some truly memorable moments. This relaxed and beautiful tour is highly recommended.
Had an absolutely amazing tour with Kono. He was super friendly from the start of the trip and took lots of great photos. We got to see a lot of cool spots and got lots of information all in English. Thank you again for such a great tour and if I’m back in Ishigaki I will definitely be back.
Significant misalignment vs expectations. We assumed we would paddle up the upstream river in the mangrove forest. Instead, we were confined to an area of 100-200 meter close to a bridge. Quite some admin with shuttle and equipment. Perfect if you want a detailed study of sand crabs, if not find something else.
What an experience! was amazing all the nature and the guides are so friendly!! It takes 2 or 3 hours and If you only spend 1 day in Iriomote is totally worth it.
I had a great time exploring the mangroves! Super neat sights and the tour team was very friendly and helpful! Our guide Kono was great and even recommended some beaches and restaurants for us to check out later on our trip.
Brought a kid along, Bandy guided him well on taking difficult paths and even carried him even not obligated to. He is very knowledgeable with the ecosystem of Iriomote from plants to natural habitants; shared a lot interesting knowledge with us.
Great experience on Iriomote island! we managed to see mangrove trees closely and even go through the narrow channel on canoe by ourselves. Our instructor Ayuka also shared a lot of details about mangrove trees and Iriomote nature. Fun experience, definitely recommend trying!
My husband and I had a wonderful trip in the mangrovian forest! The tour was very interesting through these amazing trees and our guide (Ayuka) spoke a perfect english that is a plus to live better such an adventure. We felt pretty safe during all trip and we had a lot of fun! We recommend it for sure!
The tour is highly recommended. The tour guide spoke Japanese and English and had interesting things to say. She took photos and sent them after the tour.
A beautiful and very relaxing tour of the mangroves from as closer as you can get. Our guide Ayuka was amazing and spoke excellent english so was able to give a really good insight and answer all of our questions really well. Thanks for having us!
Awesome experience! Ayuka was an excepcional guide and we have enjoyed a lot the experience! Hope to repeat sometime in the future!
It's a nice easy and no fuss trip into the mangrove, the see it up close with all the required gear provided. Perfect to fit in the morning and then enjoying the something else until your ferry back to Ishigakijima IMO. Ayu was very nice and took a lot of nice pictures, I had my waterproof gopro for underwater but above-water souvenir photos were covered! She also recommended a very nice local family-owned bento shop, it was pretty and delicious. I don't know about the other activities, but if like me walking at low tide into the mangrove to look at crabs left you wanting more, that the canoe mangrove activity is perfect. I went early september and it was very hot, also it was high tide, and jumping into the water was very refreshing. There are showers after the activity so don't worry about swimming into the mangrove. It's also 100% beginner friendly. Thank you Ayu!
Great experience. WE got to make kayak but not only. WE were introduced to iriomote mangrove fauna ans Flora by a wonderful guide.
Kayaking in the rain was nice and fun. The guide was very nice and fun. He also let me explore a bit while we waited for the other tourists.
It was a great experience, the guide was very nice and helpful. The mangrove is such a beautiful place to enjoy canoe. Absolutely safe, for children too.
Great trip even though the guide didn’t speak much English. Had fun going under the waterfall and kayaking through the mangroves
This is my second time doing a tour in Iriomotejima with Pipi Adventure. The service was amazing! From picking-up at the ferry terminal, providing all the necessary equipment, explaining the fauna and flora of the island, till the drop-off. My friends and joined the Sup & kayak tour through the mangrove and Kūra no Taki with the tour guide Tomoaki, an expert of Iriomote Island. While we kayak/sup through the mangrove and trekked a bit until the waterfall he explained a lot about the nature surrounding us. Plus he is a great photographer and took some sick pictures of us on the tour :) couldn't have asked for a better guide! Thank you for everything, Tomo- san!!! You made our time in Iriomote unforgettable and super fun!!!!! どうもありがとうございます!!!!
It was my first mangrove canoe experience, and it was more fun than I imagined; I had a wonderful time! 🌿 The guide's explanation was very easy to understand, and I was also glad that I learned many things about mangroves. I was able to see two of the four types of mangroves on Iriomote Island, and I could see the different mangrove species! It was very impressive that I was able to experience it while learning about nature, not just enjoying the scenery. The time spent leisurely paddling a canoe surrounded by nature was truly wonderful, and it refreshed my mind. I am very satisfied with the valuable experience unique to Iriomote Island! This is an activity I highly recommend 😊 Next, I want to try a sea turtle tour experience! 🐢
Thank you for today! We went canoeing in groups of three, and we did it in two groups! Although we were very bad and slow as a group, the guide, affectionately called "Shika-chan," taught us kindly! Thanks to you, I was able to experience it while having fun. Also, the trivia about mangroves and Iriomote Island was very interesting! I came to Iriomote Island as part of my trip to Ishigaki Island, and it became a great memory with my friends! One time, the mangrove flowers smelled like Takosan Wiener, which surprised me, but when I got quite close to my nose, it smelled faintly!! It seems to be true. Thank you so much!!
The guide was very bright and fun! It was a wonderful memory for the children too!
I thoroughly enjoyed the great nature of Iriomote Island and the attentive service from the staff (SHOGO-san). Due to the cancellation of the express boat service from Uwahara, many participants came via shuttle buses provided by the express boat company from Ohara Port. Even though the Uehara flight was canceled, the weather at the destination was calm, and there were no problems at all. I want to participate again.
The mangrove forest is really beautiful; in the afternoon, the sunlight shines through the forest, making it dazzling and captivating. The instructor is very nice and lets us freely paddle around in kayaks and take pictures for us. Even if you get stuck between the roots, it's okay to try and free yourself; if you can't get out, the instructor will save you! Next time I want to join the mangrove deep tour with Tez again!
It was my second time and my friend's first time canoeing, but it was a lot of fun! I was so moved by being able to see the mangroves up close, both from the canoe and from the shore, and seeing the baby mangroves for the first time! Also, this time I went with the group of three, and I was impressed that the instructor guided us while calling our names! Thank you for the wonderful memories.
The tour guide was very kind, and I was able to enjoy the SUP. I want to go again.
Good points: Impressed by the proximity of the mangroves. The explanation of Iriomote Island by guide Ike-chan ☮️ was very thorough and friendly. The photo shooting service was also helpful. I'm very satisfied again, following the Miyakojima store! Points to note: Since canoes get surprisingly wet, we recommend wearing swimsuits underneath. If you want to take photos yourself, a waterproof case for your smartphone is convenient. General review: I hear that the scenery and atmosphere change completely between low tide and high tide 💡 Since half a day wasn't enough, next time I want to aim for the high tide timing and join a full-day course or a night sky tour!
Ami-san's explanations as a guide were easy to understand, and I had a very fun time! It was nice to experience something extraordinary!
I participated in a canoe tour with my friends this time! It was really, really great 😊 The guide, Ike-chan ☮️, was in charge, and it came across from all of his demeanor and comments that he truly loves Iriomote Island, so it was a really great experience! I learned so many things I didn't know before, and if I'm going to Iriomote Island, booking here is a sure thing!!!
I experienced mangroves and kayaking for the first time. Since the participants were half Japanese and half foreign, thank you for the guide who taught us carefully using both languages. It was truly the best! I will definitely use it the next time I go to Iriomote Island.
I had an experience like coming to another world under the blue sky of nature.
Following the Ishigaki Island tour on the first day, I participated in the Iriomote Island tour on the third day. The place where the mangroves ran was mystical. The return trip was difficult because of the current, but it became a good memory. Thank you very much♪
I was bad at canoeing at first and caused trouble, but I got the hang of it and finally did it! I want to recommend it to my friends too!
My first visit to Iriomote Island included a first-time canoe experience, and everything was new and a good stimulus. Although I participated with friends this time, I think the experience of all of us cooperating to cross the river is something I will never forget. I was nervous because canoeing and mangroves were new to me, but the guide, Shogo-san, taught me carefully, so I was able to participate with peace of mind.
It was mangrove kayaking in heavy rain, but I was able to feel the harshness and beauty of Iriomote Island's rich nature firsthand, and it ended up being a very satisfying experience. The guide was extremely knowledgeable about the history and ecosystem of Iriomote Island, and the guidance throughout the journey was fun; it was the best tour from start to finish. Thank you for the ingenuity to enjoy even in the rain and for the wonderful hospitality.
They handled my reservation on the same day very politely. The children were also very satisfied.
I participated because I thought of Iriomote Island and mangroves. Although the guide (Okkun) was not a local and was a new graduate hire, he possessed an abundance of information about Iriomote Island that was surprising, and it was clear that he cared for each and every tour guest, whether by taking photos of them during the tour or by trying to communicate with them. I feel reassured that this company likely trains guides thoroughly before letting them work, even though the individual guide must be putting in a lot of effort. The tour itself might be a bit sweaty and require some effort, but you can feel a sense of accomplishment. Overall, I was glad that I was able to fully experience the World Natural Heritage sites.
