This was a relaxing and enjoyable activity to do with our teenage kids, learning to write and we got a nice rice spoon souvenir that we created. It was fun to wear kimono as well and get some great family photos.

Itinerary
Immerse yourself in authentic Japanese culture at a 300-year-old Zen temple on Miyajima Island. Wear a traditional Kimono and learn the delicate art of Japanese calligraphy in a peaceful, traditional setting. ・Kimono Dressing: Choose your favorite kimono from our wide variety of sizes, colors, and designs to suit your personal preference. ・Calligraphy Lesson: Begin with the basics—learn how to hold the brush and practice fundamental strokes. You can then choose your favorite Kanji character and practice your name written in Japanese phonetics (Hiragana/Katakana). Create & Take Home: Write your selected character on a traditional Miyajima wooden rice scoop (Shamoji)—a famous local symbol of good luck and a perfect keepsake. Sign your artwork with your name and stamp it. ・Memories & Photos: We will take photos of you throughout the lesson and in our peaceful Japanese garden, then share all the pictures we took.

It was a nice experience with an opportunity to wear kimono and learn Japanese calligraphy. My friend (American) and I (Japanese) really enjoyed it. It was a perfect activity to spend time while waiting for the change in high and low tides at the Itsukushima Shrine.
This was a don't miss experience. The kimonos were beautiful and the staff that dressed you took great care and time to make it perfect. The tea ceremony was lovely and insightful. Calligraphy was just enough to make you want to stay longer and learn more. It was superb!
My family had an amazing time here! There were several options for kimono even for plus sized people. They also let us have a photo shoot before the calligraphy lesson! The lesson was clear and fun! The only downside was having to get there but both Google and Apple Maps were clear on directions.
We had a group of 7 and did the Kimono and Calligraphy experience. It felt much cooler to be in the Kimono learning to do some calligraphy than if we had been in our street clothes. The women that were helping us were very kind and patient. Great activity to do while visiting the island
My wife and I had a great experience. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. We had actually booked a 1pm appointment, but mistakenly thought it was for 10am, and arrived early. The staff easily accommodated us anyway. The kimono dress up and picture taking was fun, and the calligraphy class was very enjoyable and our instructor was very patient and insightful. I would highly recommend this activity to anyone visiting the Hiroshima/Miyajima area
We have the most beautiful experience. First our wonderful guide helped us choose and dress and their kimono. Followed by photographs in the shrine garden. Then it was time for our kanji calligraphy lesson. We had so much fun, we learnt the correct technique and were able to create our very own rice scoop to take home. We would wholeheartedly recommend this as an essential experience when visiting Japan.
Love, loved, loved the calligraphy class. The staff was very attentive and patient as we learned basic words to try on our own. Having to write on our own rice paddle was a nice touch as we got to bring home part of the memory. Highly recommend this activity.
It was a wonderful experience learning the strokes. We get to choose the kanji character and practice it before writing it on the wooden scoop. We get to write our name in hiragana or katakana as well! Overall, I loved it. Thanks for letting me pick a kanji character that was not on the list!
This is a small intimate experience which I found to be joyous. My son and I learned so much and our teacher was just magical. I was hesitant about putting on a kimono at my age (69!) and my shape ( rounded in the middle area), but the ladies were so kind and gentle, they treated me like royalty. The actual process of brush work calligraphy is fascinating. This place is so very very special. If you want a calligraphic experience this is THE one to go to. It was dream come true for me, it will be in my memories forever.
A little tricky to find, but well worth the effort. My son and I had a wonderful time dressing in kimonos and practicing calligraphy. The ladies there were so warm and welcoming.
We had so much fun wearing beautiful kimonos and doing calligraphy. We got to pick the fabrics for our kimonos ourself. Our teacher was a funny, sweet lady and she was very helpful. It was a super fun experience, and I recommend everyone who visit Japan to do this at least once!
When we got there, the Japanese ladies helped us get into our Kimonos, and then we went into a typical tea room and learned how to write Kanji.
Okeiko staff brought our family back to ancient Japanese times. This experience left us with fun memories; therefore we highly recommend trying it out.
Wonderful Experience! Everyone was so welcoming and encouraging and made the whole experience feel very personal and special. Such a positive time, I want to try calligraphy again and loved trying on the beautiful kimono
We wished to do something different for our 10th wedding anniversary and went overseas to japan and thought calligraphy writing would be a different and authentic experience. It did not disappoint with kimono wearing, calligraphy style training and practice and signing our own names. They were patient and spoke good english. Something we can frame at home as a great experience and everything we hoped for. Thank you. Matt and Nina
Une expérience à faire absolument, que de très bons souvenirs !! Les tenues sont splendides et l’exercice de calligraphie très intéressant.
