Miyajima Half-day Trip Historical Walking Tour

On our 2-night stay in Hiroshima, the history and beauty of Miyajima was a must see, second only to to the city Peace Park. Hika was waiting for us at the train station and made for smooth progress and maximum experiences during our half day exploring sights and nature on the island. His knowledge and lived experience of post-WW II Hiroshima provided context and depth to our walking tour, with a plus for breaks and lunch to sustain us on a humid and hot day. Much appreciated, and an enrichment of our two weeks in Japan.

Our host Saori provided an amasing tour in Miyajima. She helped us to understand the history and importance of the Heike family how this island was formed. Many thanks for the tour.

It was raining all morning. We didn’t know if it was going to be canceled due to the rain. But then Hika our tour guide showed up and it was just my husband and me and Hika. We had the best time during this tour. It felt personal and he explained everything in such detail. He was so knowledgeable and with the rain, Miyajima felt magical and beautiful. We will recommend to anyone visiting the island.

This is a very extensive tour with a wonderful guide (Rio) who knew how to navigate the crowds and make things easy. She also knew some places and information that felt like many others would miss. She also found a way to accommodate our special requests. Exceptional tour that I would highly recommend.

I had an amazing experience touring Miyajima. Rio our tour guide was flexible and made adjustments as needed. She was very knowledgeable and made the experience easy and fun. I would highly recommend using a tour guide for Miyajima. The amount of knowledge she had made the trip much better. The smaller group size also made it feel more personalized. 10/10

An enjoyable day with a small group of only 6. Hiro was a good tour guide with good English and explained everything very well. Even though it says half day tour, if you are staying in Hiroshima allow for a full day.

After meeting up with our guide Rio it was a nice short ferry boat ride to the island, pace was perfect and Rio was a pleasure to listen to and talk with I highly recommend her and this Miyajima tour.

Our guide Rio was wonderful! Although the weather did not cooperate that day, as it rained heavily at times, she did a wonderful job guiding us on the island!

The Miyajima Tour was great. The island was crowded but it was easy to follow Yoshi and to hear her explanations. She took us to places we would not have found on our own. And lunch was great…even for our vegan family member. Loved it!

What a fabulous experience. Rio couldn't have been more helpful - she knew so much about all the places we visited, was kind and fun to be with and showed us all the best places for that perfect photo memory! We were very lucky on our tour, with some unique moments, including stumbling upon a rare dance performance, seeing a temple shrine through water mist and watching a lone deer cross the water right in front of the Tori gate. Although the weather did not cooperate(rain) at all Rio was awesome! She was full of knowledge and information and guided us from shrine to shrine, temple to temple in Miyajima! What a wonderful time that will be remembered on this vacation!

We had a very pleasant and interesting day with our guide Etsko. She was very polite and attentive and explained a lot during our walks. The visit to the shrine and the temple was beautifull and our meal during the included lunch was delicious! We had a very pleasant trip thanks to our guide and the beautifull island.

Was an incredible experience!! Rio-san was very clear and kind with the explanation during the tour, also we could speak some Japanese! I really appreciate all the tour and information gave by Rio-san, Miyajima was a beautiful place. Definitely would came back!

Our tour guides Hika and China were amazing. They gave us thorough explanations and the history of the different shrines and temples at Mijayima Island. We had plenty of time to take photos and they showed us the best spots for photos. We enjoyed having lunch with them and we had good conversation as we were a small group. We would definitely recommend booking with them.

Me and my 15 Year old son had a wonderful time with Rio. She was very nice, adjusted perfectly to our wishes and knew everything about the sites we visited. Thanks a lot

Rio was amazing! Knowledgeable, kind, and funny. She was also very solicitous of our 85-year-old grandma and tailored the agenda so she could participate. We saw all the highlights and learned a lot. Highly recommend!

Great tour, great guide, worth visiting

Etsko was an amazing guide and a very lovely person! She taught me so much about Miyajima island and all the history. It's a long tour but worth it. It was a great experience and I definitely recommend!

We were so lucky to have been guided around Miyajima by the wonderful Rio! She took great care of us, and her friendliness and knowledge really added to the special experience. She was incredibly helpful with my goshuin collection, showing me where to receive them and communicating with the staff on my behalf. And she knows exactly where to get the best photos! The tour included a delicious lunch and ice cream (very welcome in the sweltering heat!) Although it's not possible to see everything the island has to offer in the space of 6 hours, the itinerary was interesting and varied - definitely better than anything I could have planned myself. Highly recommend!

What an incredible guide Rio is! She is knowledgeable, kind, and truly passionate about sharing the history, culture, and spiritual traditions of Miyajima. We visited beautiful shrines and temples, wandered through hidden passages, listened to the chorus of cicadas in the forest, and enjoyed a peaceful lunch at a quiet local spot with delicious food. Every moment felt thoughtfully planned and unhurried. Rio made the day unforgettable with her warmth and enthusiasm. Thank you for an amazing experience—I couldn’t have asked for a better guide!

Rio is a very good guide. She has wide knowledge of all things and she can explain things well. We had a wonderful time with her. I can recomend for families or group of friends.

A great experience. Got to learn about the history and try the local specialty like conger eel and the maple leaf cake. It was worth the cost since I was the only one on the tour so it became a personal tour. The tour started from 9:30 till about 3 pm and it covered everything. The only out of pocket expense was the ferry to and from the island

Such a great experience. Seeing the Tori gates, different shrines and learning about the history of the island. Additionally trying the local food like conger eel and maple shaped Castilla cake. This was my third tour with this company and it was really fun all three times. Happened to be the only one on this particular tour so made it personal and enjoyable

We had a fantastic experience on the Miyajima Half‑Day Walking Tour, thanks to our wonderful guide, Yoshie. She is caring, dedicated, and incredibly knowledgeable—constantly sharing insights about both Hiroshima and Miyajima that added so much depth to the day. Lunch at the inn was very good, and the scenery throughout Miyajima was absolutely spectacular. The Itsukushima Shrine was breathtaking, and Yoshie enriched the visit with cultural background and thoughtful explanations. One of the highlights was visiting Daisho‑in Temple, where Yoshie helped us understand the customs and traditions in a way that felt meaningful and accessible. Don’t miss the maze inside the temple—you’ll come out feeling “reborn.” Yoshie was exceptionally accommodating and attentive to our needs. For example, she made sure we boarded the correct train back to Hiroshima and even waited until it departed before saying goodbye. That level of care truly stood out. A memorable, worthwhile tour—and if you can, ask for Yoshie. She made the experience outstanding.

This was a really fun tour! Our guide, Etsko, was very knowledgeable and allowed us to ask many questions. It was the perfect length tour around the island, and wasn’t too long. Lots of wonderful temples and shrines all along the route of the tour.

We had a fantastic time visiting Miyajima. Our guide was fantastic and delightful company. We saw a wide range of sites on the island and lov d them all.

Wonderful tour with Etsuko. Saw all the main sites, plus lunch, ice cream and other local delicacies. Nicely paced so just the right amount of time with option to stay on the island longer if you wish.

It a was a nice tour with rio explaining and showing us the shrines and temple. She makes sure we were good (restroom break ect) and help take pictures of us. She was also kind enough to take us to get a drink at the Miyajima brewery and to the gift shop on the island.
