The tour started at Peace Memorial Park learning about a-bombing in 1945. Then we moved to Mitaki Temple by 20-minute bus ride. I was curious how visiting the temple would give me the chance to think about `peace`after visiting Peace Memorial Park. I learned Mitaki Temple was not located in the central Hiroshima area that was devastated by the bombing but that the temple has also many a-bombed buildings, monuments and episodes related to the bombing in the site. Our guide Yukie has very detailed knowledge and explained one by one during walking in the site. At the end of the tour, when I learned all from Yukie, it was a very special moment to think about `peace`in the peaceful nature atmosphere. The tour is well-prepared and very informative. Also, it was very fun to walk in the quiet, cool, not-crowded site of the historical temple surrounded by beautiful nature. Yukie is very kind and friendly. Thanks to her guiding, I really enjoyed this informative, refreshing and very fun tour!

Itinerary
Before it was a park, this neighborhood was a busy place with many houses, shops, and the sounds of daily life. In a single flash on August 6, 1945, that world vanished. As we enter the Rest House and stand in front of the Atomic Bomb Dome, we are not just looking at them; we are listening to the stories of the people who were there. After our visit, we will take a local bus from a nearby bus stop. This 20-minute ride takes us away from the city center to the quiet area of Mitaki.
After the bus ride and a 10-minute walk, the air changes as you enter the temple grounds. This sanctuary is home to lush nature, three waterfalls, and hundreds of stone statues. With me, you will uncover the untold stories linking this sanctuary to the atomic bombing. You will also discover the enduring prayers for peace that remain here today. Away from the crowds, enjoy a quiet moment for reflection before we return by train.

I joined a tour that started at the Rest House in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. First, we looked at a detailed diorama showing what the area was like before the atomic bombing, when it was a lively downtown district. It helped me imagine how vibrant the city had once been. After visiting the A-Bomb Dome and the surrounding memorials, we took a bus to Mitaki Temple. I learned that a temple that had originally been located in the busy city center were relocated to Mitaki after the war. We also saw a stone water basin that had survived the atomic bombing, which was another powerful reminder of Hiroshima’s history. Then we walked up the mountain to visit Mitaki Temple. It was an extremely hot day, and I was already feeling exhausted before arriving there. However, as soon as I entered the temple grounds, I was surrounded by cool mountain air, beautiful greenery, and the peaceful sound of nature. I immediately felt refreshed and deeply relaxed. It was a wonderful place that offered not only a chance to learn about Hiroshima’s history but also a moment of peace and healing. If you’re interested in learning about Hiroshima beyond the well-known sites, this is a wonderful hidden gem. I highly recommend visiting it.
"I had an enlightening experience on this tour, guided by the incredibly knowledgeable Yukie. I was surprised to learn that the hypocenter in Hiroshima was actually a hospital—one that continues to serve the community today. We later visited Mitaki-dera Temple, which was relocated here from near the hypocenter after WWII. It is a profound place of peace, honoring the memory of victims from all backgrounds, including those of Auschwitz. Walking among the three waterfalls was so revitalizing. Relaxing with some 'Dagashi' and chatting with Yukie made for such a memorable afternoon. It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on Hiroshima’s history, the kindness of this land, and the enduring power of nature and regeneration."
This was an amazing tour experience. The guide's bright personality and constant smile instantly left a great impression. It was a highly informative tour that covered various perspectives, including the wartime history of the atomic bomb and its connection to Mitaki and Mitaki Temple. Mitaki temple was surprisingly spacious, and the grounds felt refreshingly cool even in the peak of the July heat. We had a wonderfully relaxed time with fun activities and a nice break to chat over snacks. Thank you for your warm and thoughtful hospitality throughout the day.
This tour was started from Peace Memorial Park and ended at Mitaki Temple. Yukie was a very kind and knowledgeable guide. She explained every detail connected with Hiroshima’s Atomi bomb history, such as people, community, and temples, etc. Beautiful three falls and moistened cold air seem to wash away any tired and desires. It made me feel newborn. I had a special time on this tour.
This was a great tour! Yukie was so knowledgeable and she is the sweetest person. We loved going to the Mitaki temple. It was so serene and beautiful there. Absolutely beautiful scenery and waterfalls. The best part about it is that it was not crowded like the other more popular temples. This allowed us to really enjoy it more than an overly crowded temple. We enjoyed all the activities she prepared for us along with the yummy treat. Thank you so much!
Yuki gave an amazing tour as we were able to reflect on those who lost their lives that day by not only visiting a few sites around the Atomic Bomb Dome but then to a quiet experience at the Mitaki Temple.
An amazing tour, an incredible experience. Yukie, our guide, was so caring and passionate. I recommend the tour without any hesitation. Greg from Belgium.
This tour is highly recommended for those who want to avoid the beaten path or who would love to walk in beautiful nature while learning more about Hiroshima’s history. The guide will share detailed stories with you that even many locals don’t know.
I joined the Mitaki Peace Tour. The tour starts in central Hiroshima, visiting places such as the Rest House, the Atomic Bomb Dome, and the hypocenter (Shima Hospital). From there, you take a bus for about 20 minutes to Mitaki, which is also very easy to access from the city. Mitaki is a शांत and nature-rich area. The paths are well maintained, so even people who are not very physically active can enjoy it comfortably. What impressed me most was how the stories shared by the guide in the city came together once we reached Mitaki. While enjoying the beautiful natural surroundings, you can also learn about the impact of the atomic bomb and hear different perspectives on people’s experiences. It’s more than just sightseeing—it’s a meaningful and reflective experience. It gave me a chance to quietly think about what “peace” really means. The guide was very kind, friendly, and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Hiroshima.
This tour was a really great way to learn more about the history of Hiroshima. I first visited Hiroshima on a school trip when I was an elementary school student to learn about the atomic bombing, but over 15 years later, this tour gave me so many new discoveries and perspectives. The guide clearly explained how the atomic bomb attack was planned and why this particular area was targeted, along with many other important historical facts. What impressed me most was how the stories we heard on the way to Mitaki-dera Temple were later connected to the history and spots in the temple. There was so much information that you would never learn by simply visiting the temple on your own. If you're planning to visit Mitaki-dera Temple, I definitely recommend joining this tour. Since it's a hiking tour, be prepared to walk quite a bit, including some uphill and downhill sections. It might be challenging if you're not comfortable with long walks or uneven terrain, but it's absolutely worth it. Admission fee: 200 yen
I was able to learn a lot from this tour. This tour was well planned, and the guide was very knowledgeable. I highly recommend this tour!
This tour connected Hiroshima on that fateful day with the Mitaki area, offering a unique experience filled with storytelling and a variety of activities unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before. The guide possessed a wealth of knowledge and provided detailed explanations using very clear and easy-to-understand language. In the Peace Park, she shared the naratives of atomic bomb survivors who overcame tragedies that are almost unimaginable today, which made me feel the horror of the atomic bomb and had a strong feeling that we must not repeat.that evil. We traveled by bus from Peace Park to the Mitaki area, enjoying the feeling of a mini-trip on local transportation. Mt. Mitaki was ablaze with fresh greenery; the breeze and the sound of the waterfall were soothing, and we were enveloped in the solemn atmosphere of a Japanese temple amidst the tranquility. I imagine the autumn foliage season will reveal a completely different scene. It was a wonderful trip!
Mitaki Temple is a scenic and fascinating spot even for Japanese people, but visiting it with a guide this time allowed me to discover many new aspects of its charm. Also, since it is located away from Peace Park, I had assumed it had no connection to the war, so I was surprised to learn that it is not entirely unrelated. If I hadn’t joined this tour, my impression of Mitaki would have been nothing more than “a nice hiking trail.” While one can understand and feel the history of Hiroshima and peace by reading the exhibits, the connection between Mitaki and peace is something you wouldn’t know without participating in this tour. It was a wonderful opportunity to step away from the hustle and bustle of the city and reflect on peace amidst nature.
I joined the “Mitaki Peace Tour Beyond Central Hiroshima,” and the tour lasted just under four hours. It was a very fulfilling experience from start to finish. The tour began at the Rest House, a surviving A-bombed building, and continued all the way to Mitaki-dera Temple. It would require a reasonable level of fitness since there was quite a bit of walking, but it was absolutely worth it. Mitaki-dera was full of greenery, cool air, and a peaceful atmosphere that made me feel refreshed both physically and mentally. After reaching the top, we were rewarded with a panoramic view of Hiroshima City, which gave a real sense of accomplishment. According to our guide, Mitaki-dera is known as a temple founded by Kobo Daishi Kukai in 809, and it also preserves structures that survived the atomic bombing in 1945. It is a place where visitors can quietly reflect and learn about Hiroshima’s history from different perspectives. She explained everything very clearly and carefully, making the historical background easy to understand and helping us appreciate the significance of each place we visited. This tour offered not only sightseeing, but also a deeper understanding of Hiroshima beyond the city center. I would highly recommend this tour for those who want to explore a different side of Hiroshima.
This tour was such a special experience and showed a deeper, more spiritual side of Hiroshima. I liked how the tour connected Hiroshima’s peace history with the visit to Mitaki Temple, making the experience feel connected from start to finish. Surrounded by lush greenery and away from the usual tourist crowds, Mitaki felt peaceful, almost sacred, and like a hidden world of its own. The mix of walking, a local bus ride, breaks, and a short hike kept the tour varied and the pace just right, and the four hours flew by. Yuki was a fantastic guide, warm, knowledgeable, and a wonderful storyteller. Learning about the temple’s history and spiritual significance through her explanations made the visit especially meaningful, and having a guide added depth and context I would not have had otherwise. I highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to experience a quieter, more spiritual side of Hiroshima. Thank you, Yuki!
nice place to visit - like a hidden gem like mini koya san(mt.koya)in osaka kansai area - but near from city center of hiroshima - convenient public transportation to reach
I had a wonderful time on the Mitaki Peace Tour! We visited the Peace Memorial Park and then took a bus to the hidden gem, Mitaki-dera Temple. The temple has several A-bombed buildings and is surrounded by a beautiful forest. The city view from the temple was amazing. It was a very educational and refreshing 4-hour tour. Don't miss it!
The tour was excellent! At the Peace Park, the explanations were clear and meaningful, helping us understand the history deeply. At Mitaki-dera Temple, we enjoyed a peaceful atmosphere surrounded by beautiful nature. They also prepared for unique activities for us! The guide was very nice, knowledgeable and professional. Highly recommended!!
We visited Mitaki-dera Temple in early December, but the autumn leaves were still scattered here and there, making it incredibly beautiful. Located close to Hiroshima Station, Mitaki-dera Temple is a historic temple built in the mountains in the 9th century. Unlike the crowded Peace Memorial Park and Miyajima, we were able to enjoy a relaxing stroll, soothed by the three waterfalls. Surprisingly, several parts in the temple are connected to the atomic bombing. Thanks to the detail explanations from our guide at Peace Memorial Park, we learned a lot about the geographical relationships and the influences of the atomic bombing in Mitaki. We highly recommend the Mitaki-dera peace tour for anyone visiting Hiroshima, as it allows you to enjoy the beauty of the four seasons and learn about Hiroshima's history.
This is a highly recommended tour. Mitaki-dera is filled with a serene atmosphere, and learning how this remote area is deeply connected to the atomic bombing was truly meaningful. With the guide’s clear explanations, the calm surroundings—so different from central Hiroshima—offered a chance to slow down, reflect, and feel refreshed both mentally and emotionally.
This tour was amazing! I learned a lot about Hiroshima that I didn't know before. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable and very good company throughout. Luckily, it was a beautiful day, so I really enjoyed stunning autumn leaves.Highly recommended.
It’s a quiet and magical place that’s hard to believe is in the middle of Hiroshima. You can really feel the ancient Japanese spiritual atmosphere, and even today it’s a peaceful place that local people cherish. Through this tour, I learned so much about the history of Mitaki-dera that I had never known before, and it gave me a whole new way of seeing Hiroshima. Riding public transportation was also a fun part of the experience, and since it’s only a few stops away, it wasn’t tiring at all. Being surrounded by nature felt wonderful, and I enjoyed a gentle, mini hiking experience that refreshed both my mind and body. I truly think this tour will become very popular!
After touring important places in Peace Park and listening to the story of the Hiroshima atomic bomb, we took a bus to Mitaki Temple, located 2 kilometers away from Hiroshima city center at the foot of a mountain. At Mitaki Temple, where many buildings that were damaged by the atomic bomb remain, we were able to enjoy the beautiful autumn leaves, reflect on Hiroshima's past, and spend a peaceful time paying tribute to the stone Buddha statues and other relics of ancient times.
I was truly moved by Mitaki Temple! The autumn leaves were still beautiful, and I was delighted to enjoy the stunning red colors as we walked higher up the mountain. Thanks to a guide, I enjoyed the visit many times more than I would have on my own. It is also a spot related to the atomic bombing, and I deeply realized that Hiroshima is a place where people desire peace. The sound of the three waterfalls was very solemn and majestic, making it a truly Japanese location where you could feel the austere beauty. What a sacred place! Since there weren't many tourists, I felt completely at peace. It is definitely a must-visit spot that I would highly recommend. Without a guide, I would never have understood the stories and significance of the place. I am so glad I participated in this tour!
Unlike the Peace Memorial Park or Miyajima, Mitaki Temple is a different place where visitors can enjoy tranquility, though it is closed to the central part of the city. This temple is not only a Buddhism facility but holds some memorials related to the atomic bomb. Visitors can feel a part of the history of Hiroshima.
I've I've visited Mitaki-dera Temple several times before, but this tour sparked even greater interest. I gained insights into its history that surpassed what I could find online or on informational boards, reinforcing my view of its significance. It's also a stunning location, and exploring for Buddha statues and small shrines feels like a delightful treasure hunt.visited Mitaki-dera Temple several times before, but this tour sparked even greater interest. Mitaki Temple has such a calming atmosphere. The sound of the waterfalls, the surrounding trees, and the peaceful environment were all incredibly relaxing. I also loved that it wasn’t crowded—it made the whole visit even more special. I found it very meaningful that the tour connects Mitaki Temple with the Peace Memorial Park, and introduces places related to the atomic bombing, such as Seiganji Temple and the story of Akiko and the A-bombed piano. Being able to send a message of peace to myself or to someone close to me felt like a truly unique and thoughtful part of the tour. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Hiroshima.
It was an excellent tour. Though not so far from Hiroshima city center, we felt tranquility that led us to think what peace means to us. The guide was very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommended!
Mitaki Peace Tour Beyond Central Hiroshima gave us such a moving experience. The tour starts in the Peace Park visiting Atomic Bomb Dome, the ground zero, Childrens’ Peace Monument, and heads for Mitaki Temple. Although Mitaki Temple is close to central Hiroshima, it is a quiet and beautiful place with some kind of spiritual atmosphere. Many large trees, the sound of the waterfall and the temple bell, all the stone statues and etc. Also, we were surprised to know how Mitaki was damaged by the Atomic Bombing as well. Through our wonderful guide Yuki, we learned a lot about the Atomic Bombing, and thought about Peace. Thank you very much, Yuki.
Fantastic 🤩🤩🤩🤩 A +++ tour, an extraordinary guide, very attentive from the beginning to the closing. Trust her and let yourself be taken into this magnificent history. A temple like you have rarely seen and so much happiness after the heaviness of Hiroshima and its sad history. Not to be missed under any circumstances. Thank you Yuki for your care and your love of hospitality.
This excursion far from the tourist circuits... which is surprising given the beauty of the place, is an ABSOLUTE MUST! Yuki, our guide, is a magnificent person whose generosity is limitless. It would be a real shame to miss out on this discovery. A place steeped in history, peace, spirituality, and love. For peace...
It is an excursion NOT TO BE MISSED. This place is far from the tourist circuits and yet... it is wonderful. It is a unique experience and our guide, Yuki, was incredible. She had prepared everything, down to the smallest detail, like we had never experienced before with other guides.
I was able to feel the damage caused by the atomic bomb from a different angle than being able to enjoy the nature of Japan and negative ions. I think this tour is a valuable opportunity to discover two things: that there is a beautiful place called Mitaki-dera in Hiroshima, and that you can also learn about the story of the atomic bomb there.
I had the chance to participate in the guided tour while Yuki san was introducing her to future guides. In two stays of about a month in Japan, it remains one of my best experiences. I've learned a lot about it. If I hadn't met the band, I would have walked through the site without being aware of its history, without being able to experience its depth. The links with the bombing are incredible and some stories upsetting. Beyond the bomb, it is above all a nice complex of Buddhist temples hidden on the mountainside that is worth a visit if only to enjoy its surroundings and the soothing atmosphere that emerges. As well as views of Hiroshima from the top of Mt. It is very shaded, so nice to do in summer (note that you have to walk well to get there), and it seems that the autumn colors are beautiful. The tour is in English. I wasn't sure I was going to Mitaki Dera when I came back to Hiroshima. Now I think I should have done it sooner! ^^ Thanks again.
