Itinerary
Kyudo is a Japanese martial art which consists of shooting at a target with a Japanese bow so as to achieve complete focus in the mind and body. The main difference between kyudo and western archery is that in kyudo every movement follows a traditional routine which pays respect to the equipment and to the opponent. Just a fifteen-minute walk from the Atomic Bomb Dome, this activity allows you to enjoy a genuine Japanese archery experience while in Hiroshima. Upon arrival to the archery range, get kitted out in an authentic kyudo uniform, including dogi upper-wear and hakama lower-wear. Listen to a brief explanation of the art of kyudo and to instructions and demonstrations throughout the experience. With the knowledge and skills picked up, shoot at the target with the arrows, along the way gaining an understanding of the fun and challenging aspects of the sport, particularly those arising from wearing the traditional hakama and armor. Typically in kyudo, you're not allowed to pull the arrow until you master the basics, but during this experience, you'll have the chance to enjoy the real sport even as a complete beginner. It's a bit difficult to hit the target at first, which makes it that much more exciting when you finally do. Hitting the target is also believed to bring good luck and make your wishes come true, even in the mini-sized kyudo ground you'll be shooting in. ・This tour is not recommended for people with limited mobility. ・This activity is suitable for beginners. In rare cases, the strings may hit your arms and wrists and cause swelling. ・If you are more than 5 minutes late for your session, you will not be allowed to enter. ・Translation apps may be used to assist customers. ・Due to preparation time, you will not be able to enter the store before the start time. ・There are no restrooms at the experience store. There are public restrooms nearby. ・Please keep your hands clean. Do not come with hands that have touched food. ・Please remove your shoes. Socks or bare feet are acceptable, but please keep your feet clean. Dirty or smelly feet will stain the floor and cause a nuisance. ・Entry is not permitted for anyone other than the number of people in the reservation.

Great experience, it was very fun and informative. The instructors were great and they were very patient with us.
This was a lot of fun! We had a good time and the instructors were very knowledgeable and patient. Would do again!
This is a fun, active experience that exposed us to a sport that we knew very little about. It was fun to get dressed up in the traditional outfits and tryout archery.
This was so much fun! My husband and I went and it’s just under an hour, but they give you a very thorough training to get started and then you practice and do a fun competition! You also learn history during and it felt very traditional which we loved! You also get quite a few arrows to shoot and by the end you’re probably going to be ready! I would 100% come back to this, and the staff was so friendly!
This was a really fun experience. It is very low stress and the wonderful instructors speak excellent English and are very patient. Both are also very knowledgeable about their craft and they helped me noticeably improve in just the single hour.
This was such a fun experience and well worth it. We got great instruction and were able to shoot a lot while also getting to know the history of the sport. It’s a perfect addition to seeing the grounds and temple.
This experience was a lot of fun, and great to learn a little bit about the history of Kyudo! The staff were very kind and spoke English very well. I highly recommend this experience.
The Japanese Archery experience was amazing…and handy for what turned out to be a very rainy day in Hiroshima, although we’d pre-booked well in advance. The instructors were fantastic; the coaching on technique was clear, they were patient and very encouraging. The pace was good. The instructors kept our session active, so we got as much time to practice as time allowed. Friendly competition encouraged! A no point did it feel the time was being dragged-out. The studio is a beautiful, clean and pleasant space to be in. We had the whole place to ourselves, which was nice, but there would have been plenty room for two others without feeling squashed in. My daughter and I also loved the opportunity to dress-up in the archer clothes! Really added to the experience and made great photos as a keepsake. I highly recommend the Japanese Archery experience if you are in Hiroshima. However, please note, the studio is based beside Hiroshima Castle, not in the castle itself. Although the castle staff are happy to point you in the right direction as we found out :)
This was a very genuine experience and they really take the time to focus on the actual technique than just a tourist thing. It felt like actually learning the art of archery.
This was a very fun activity. The instructors were very good at explaining the history, how the tradition is currently kept alive, and how to shoot. Plenty of rounds of arrows shot during the hour, and we appreciated the guidance on how to be better each time.
YOU WILL HAVE THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE and when it is done you will be disappointed. The ladies were patient with us which made the experience pleasurable.
Time well spent! The teachers are patient when advising the technique. Ample time is given to hone your skill.
This was a fantastic experience, would highly recommend. The instructors were patient and thorough and we got to practice many times, more than I was expecting! It was so much fun!! Thank you!!!
So glad I booked this experience. This was so fun and challenging, way harder than it looks. Our guides were amazing explaining everything and showing us techniques to hit the bullseye. They also provided competitive information and history. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience and highly recommend it.
Wonderful experience in archery. Instructors were extremely nice and knowledgeable. I am a novice and they helped us hit the target a couple of times. I highly recommend.
I came to Japan to visit my son and we decided to try it out. We absolutely loved it. They make sure you understand the proper steps/form and help correct and guide you if you begin to mess up. I loved learning about the history behind it during our experience. My son and I are competitive so they were cheering us both on. We even wore the authentic attire that would be worn. She even used our phone for photos/videos which was awesome, and a souvenir all in itself. We would definitely recommend going. You won't be disappointed
This was an amazing experience and something that I have never done before. The staff were great! However, the communication before was very off putting (smelly feet etc…). As you have to travel quite a way for this activity being offered a cold drink would have been nice and more welcoming. The history of the archery beforehand would have enhanced the experience. It all felt a bit amateur and bit rushed. Not a bad experience but not to the standard of others we have done. I fully understand why people rate this experience so highly, however, what was an okay experience could have been good with a few tweaks and a more welcoming start
Amazing experience, lovely staff. Try something new and give them a try :)
It was a great experience, I reserved it for my birthday and it was an absolute hit!! 🏹 I reserved 2 spots for my spouse and myself, the guides were super kind and friendly and the instructions provided proved to be clear enough to get the hang of traditional archery easily and quickly. The hour was spent practicing and playing which we both enjoyed so much. I would totally recommend for everyone that's interested in this beautiful art, even if you have 0 previous experience. And I hope to revisit sometime again, thank you so much!! 😁🙌🏻
An excellent experience to take part it. We were instructed on the correct techniques, and get to shoot many times. It’s was something completely new to try, and we got to learn about the history and meaning behind many elements of kyudo. Definitely recommend
Went with my daughter (13 years old). Authentic hands-on cultural experience. The guide (few young ladies) were very helpful and answered all the questions we had. Dressing in the traditional Japanese archery costume put us in a fun mood as well. We would definitely consider doing it again! The only negative was that we had to wait outside in 36C temperature until the exact time of the appointment. Would have been better if they had warned us so that we arrived more on time than early.
Great experience, the instructors were very helpful.
The instructions were kept short and easy to follow, got to have a few rounds to get used to the bow, being able to put on a uniform made the experience even better. Instructors spoke little English but with a translating app were able to answer all questions
Great experience learning the technique and history of the Japanese Archery. Staff were welcoming and the location was great near the Hiroshima castle. Highly recommend to do this tour if your in Hiroshima
Great experience with the Hiroshima archery 🏹 experience. Staff welcomed us and explained about the technique history and how to use archery. Highly recommend to do when u are in Hiroshima.
A great activity to do while in Hiroshima, a lot harder than it looks! But great fun all the same, lovely inside room and very helpful, respectful teachers
This was such a fun experience. I've always been interested in Kyudo (Japanese Archery) so this really was something I looked forward to. It was easy to find and the two teachers were wonderful. Very kind and helpful. I used the English service but even the teacher that only spoke Japanese was involved and helped me make adjustments. I really enjoyed my time and definitely recommend it to others!
We live in Florida and recently tried out a Kyudo (Japanese archery) experience with my husband and son! Since the guys don’t speak Japanese, we asked for English explanations. The instructors were amazing—they didn't just explain things in English, they also walked us through every single movement step-by-step. We were super nervous at first, but they totally put us at ease. We were so pumped when we actually hit the target! The place was spotless and had such a chill, relaxing vibe. A huge shoutout to the two female instructors for being so sweet and patient with us. We’d absolutely love to do this again sometime. Thanks for such an awesome time!
Great fun for my son and I this afternoon. The 2 ladies who ran it were friendly and charming
A wonderful experience. Very helpful, polite and patient staff. Would happily have spent another hour shooting arrows! Highly recommended.
Our Japanese Archery experience in Hiroshima was one of the most memorable activities of our trip to Japan. From the moment we arrived, the instructors were incredibly welcoming, patient, and passionate about sharing the history, philosophy, and traditions behind this beautiful martial art. What made this experience so special was that it was much more than simply learning how to shoot a bow. The instructors carefully guided us through every step, from proper posture and technique that make Japanese archery unique. If you're visiting Hiroshima and looking for a cultural experience beyond the usual sightseeing, I cannot recommend this highly enough. This was truly a highlight of our time in Japan and an experience we will never forget.
Amazing experience! Not only did they go through step by step on how to practice Japanese archery, but I was able to learn a little bit of the history and have a lot of fun! ありがとうございます!
Friendly staff explained everything clearly.
It was a great experience and would definitely recommend it!
Had a great time, my daughter and i participated in the japanese archery. The host were very nice and friendly, we dressed i. Traditional japanese outfits, so cool.
This activity was so fun the host and his employee were so nice and informative and helpful. They teach you the traditional way to draw and shot which was super interesting to learn but it takes a bit to learn. Nothing like a modern compound bow you have to aim and shoot with your heart. Thankyou.
My spouse and I had a great time! The instructors were knowledgeable, helpful, and patient. I was definitely a slow learner but they helped me get in some decent shots.
It was my first time trying archery. The team explained it in detail, step by step, most importantly the finger movements. The team was very understanding and welcoming. They even gave us small gifts at the end. The experience was great. I wanted to do more; however, it only lasted for an hour. The experience gave me the idea to try archery or to look for archery in my own city when I go home. I already recommended it to my family so they have something to do here in Hiroshima when they come.
lots of fun, small group, close instruction, got to wear some basic japanese uniform, learned to shoot in a japanese fashion. learned a few historical facts.
Had an amazing time here. I got coached by two charming ladies who were able to perfectly instruct me on how to shoot traditional japanese bows. I've read in some reviews that they used translator apps, but these were not needed nor used with me at the least as the instructions were clear and punctual! If you have experience with archery this is a must try! (be sure to forget your previous archery experience as this is completely different!). Would love to do it again.
This was a fantastic introduction to Japanese archery, perhaps a little oversold as the archery range was fairly short with low draw weight bows and the range is next to, rather than inside Hiroshima castle. We had a great experience, everything was carefully explained and the technique practiced carefully before some competitive shooting. We shot from a seated position which was interesting and meant that we didn’t have to worry about stance and posture. The targets were small (head sized) to compensate for the short range, and the low draw weight makes the experience accessible to almost anyone, The instructors were brilliant, and very helpful, giving small tips on technique and aim at all times. We highly recommend it.
It was a bit of fun and an experience. The staff were very good at explaining how to use the weapons safely. The competition at the end was great
I did this experience on the morning of 11 May. My instructor was literally the most beautiful woman I've ever seen in my life. I then proceeded to score 1/8, only hitting the target once and finishing last in tournament in front of her. 10/10, would do again.
Really fun experience. I highly recommend.
Excellent experience. Staff were knowledgeable and helpfully and accommodated a wheelchair user. Highly recommend.
I had such an amazing experience with traditional Japanese archery! I can't believe I fonally got to hold a Japanese bow in real life, not just see ot in anime. It's sparked a real passion in me - I'm definitely going to start diving deep into the world of traditional archery from now on!!
Great traditional experience with a bit of competition and fun thrown in too. Hosts were helpful and fun!
An amazingly fun experience on a rainy day in Hiroshima! Personal attention of the trainers helped both of us be successful in hitting a target 7 meters away.
It was a fun experience and interesting to learn archery through a different lens.
