We had the best day with our guide Kazuhisa To. He knew so much and we learnt a lot today. It was a really interesting tour in Hiroshima. He even took the time to tell us how we could get around after the tour ended. And recommended some good restaurants. I will give him my best recommendations.

Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park (平和記念公園, Heiwa Kinen Kōen) is one of the most prominent features of the city. Even visitors not looking for it will likely stumble upon the large park of over 120,000 square meters. Its trees, lawns, and walking paths are in stark contrast to the surrounding downtown area. Before the bomb, the area of what is now the Peace Park was the political and commercial heart of the city. For this reason, it was chosen as the pilot's target. Four years to the day after the bomb was dropped, it was decided that the area would not be redeveloped but instead devoted to peace memorial facilities. Admission Fee: ¥200
Hiroshima Castle (広島城, Hiroshimajō), also called the Carp Castle, is a notable example of a castle built on a plain in the center of a city. Its grounds are surrounded by a moat, and the castle precincts include a shrine, historic ruins, and reconstructed Ninomaru (second bailey) buildings. Built in 1589 by the powerful feudal lord Mori Terumoto, Hiroshima Castle was an important seat of power in Western Japan. Like the rest of the city, it was destroyed by the atomic bombing in 1945. ※Please note that Hiroshima Castle’s main keep has been closed to the public since March 2026 due to safety concerns. The castle can still be viewed from the outside, while the Ninomaru buildings, Ninomaru Museum Shop, and Sannomaru area remain open to visitors.
Shukkeien is a Japanese garden in Hiroshima, designated as one of Japan’s Top 100 Historical Parks and a National Scenic Spot. This article introduces the highlights of the garden, access information, and other tips to enjoy it.

We are two.couples travelling together (one from Canada and one from the UK) and we took a 4 hour tour with Kazuhisa To to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and surrounding area, including beautiful gardens. He was extremely knowledgeable and had a very engaging style. His English was very good and we had a very thought provoking tour. We would definitely recommend him to other travellers 🙂
Hiroshi was our guide and he was absolutely fabulous. He was punctual, extremely intelligent and we learned so much from him. We were able to engage with him about the personal suffering and the political perspective of the horror that occurred. Our day was appropriately concluded after the peace museum by his teaching us the art of origami and the placement of our creations at Memorial Park. We hope the world never again has to confront the ramifications of nuclear war. We highly recommend him and are grateful for what he brought to our visit in Hiroshima.
An Unforgettable Day in Hiroshima – Thank You, To! A big thank you to To for giving our family such a special and memorable day in Hiroshima! To was an excellent guide, combining history, knowledge, and the perfect pace with just the right amount of humour. Visiting the sites connected to the atomic bombing of Hiroshima is an emotional and deeply moving experience, and To handled this with great respect and sensitivity while making the history come alive through his stories and explanations. Our family learned so much, and it was a day that made a real impression on all of us. We will remember it for a long time. What really went above and beyond was that To continued to help us even after his working day was over. He took the time to send us helpful tips and recommendations via WhatsApp for our visit to Miyajima the following day. We really appreciated this extra effort and his genuine care for making our trip as special as possible. To, thank you for your knowledge, your kindness, your sense of humour, and for making our time in Hiroshima so meaningful. You are a wonderful guide, and we would highly recommend you to anyone visiting the area. We wish you all the very best and lots of happiness in the future! Thank you for everything, To! Warm regards, The Roessen Family
Yuki did a very good job guiding us for the four hours and adapted the itinerary to allow for the weather. She was knowledgeable and gave good commentary on what we were seeing. She looked after us well.
Mari was an excellent guide. The contact on beforehand was very good through WhatsApp In this way our programme was very well Developed. Moreover, during our tour we could feel the emotions and commitment with the history of Hiroshima. Furthermore, she is very well informed and enthousiast The communication was very well We had a very fine afternoon.
Woody was an excellent guide. He was very knowlegeable. He picked us up at our hotel and brought us back there at the end of the 4 hour tour. He even gave us dinner suggestions.
Our Viator Tour of Hiroshima exceeded all our expectations. Our guide (Hiroshi) was excellent, providing my wife and me insights and explanations of everywhere we visited, which included Ground Zero, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Museum, and the Shukkeien Gardens. We started the tour with a delicious lunch, consisting of Hiroshima-style okinomiyaki. That sustained us for the next four hours as we visited all the places on our itinerary. As our tour ended, our guide even led us directly to a store where we could buy our teenage son a Hiroshima Carp’s baseball souvenir! We highly recommend touring Hiroshima using Viator to make the most of your visit.
Our guide was very good with communication prior to the tour and was helpful with taxi, restaurants and other logistics. Her English was good in terms of knowledge but she was very hard to understand especially when addressing our small group. The actual tour of the Hiroshima sights was a disappointment. When reading the reviews about this particular private tour, it was mentioned again and again how informative the tour was in terms of the history of Japan at war, the events leading up to the dropping of the atomic bomb and its aftermath. We were toured by the major sites and given essentially the same commentary that was on the placards. In addition, on most private tour, entrance tickets are purchased in advance to avoid waiting in long lines. This did not happen at the Museum and we waited in a long line and were also not warned about the literal crush of people trying to make their way through the museum. Room for improvement.
Kazuhisa To was a great guide and a wonderful person to explore Hiroshima with. We have all seen pictures of the Atomic Dome or the Children’s Memorial. The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum was surprisingly breathtaking. We visited at a time when hundreds of schoolchildren were also visiting. Kazuhisa knew it would be hard to get in , much less through. He found a workable solution to insure that we were able to experience the museum. His forthought was more important than I really understood until we went. Kazuhisa is a thoughtful student of history and a passionate spokesman for Japan and Hiroshima. We were also fortunate to tour Miyajima with him while while we were there a few days later.
Kazuhisa To did a great job. My dad and I have been looking forward to visiting Hiroshima and learning about its rich history. Kazuhisa To explained everything so well and we both learned a lot during the tour. Really enjoyed it!
We had a great tour of the Peace Park, a delicious lunch, and got lucky to experience a traditional tea ceremony. The history of the atomic bomb as well as the aftermath are quite sobering to say the least. Our guide Hiroshi was the absolute best as we navigated the memorials and the museum. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and just a really fun person to chat with! I highly recommend this tour if you’re coming to Hiroshima.
Mari was an amazing guide. We had such and great tour and she shared so much about the city and culture. Wonderful. She went above and beyond.
I can’t thank Hasshi enough for such a meaningful and unforgettable experience in Hiroshima. My father was in Japan in 1947, just after the war, so visiting Hiroshima was very personal for me. Hearing Hasshi share the history and read the letters made everything feel so real and brought my father’s story a little closer to me. We visited the Peace Memorial sites, Hiroshima Castle and other important places, and Hasshi brought each location to life with her knowledge and stories. She was so kind, thoughtful and passionate throughout the day. I would highly recommend Hasshi to anyone visiting Hiroshima. She is an exceptional guide and made our experience truly special. Thank you, Hasshi, for sharing your city and its history with us. ❤️
We had an absolute wonderful day in Hiroshima and Miyajima with Kay, and we could not have asked for a better guide! From the very beginning, Kay was warm, extremely knowledgeable, and well-prepared. She had booked our tickets for the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum in advance, which saved us from standing in long lines. Her deep historical insights made our visit to the Peace Memorial Park both moving and truly meaningful. Afterward, we traveled smoothly to Miyajima Island. Kay guided us through the island's sacred sights, including the Itsukushima Shrine and the famous floating torii gate, while sharing fascinating stories about local culture and history. Everything was perfectly organized and tailored to our group's wishes and pace. Kay’s expert guidance, warm personality, and attention to detail made our time in Hiroshima an unforgettable highlight of our trip to Japan. We highly recommend booking a tour with Kay to anyone visiting Hiroshima! — Joan, Lars, Alex & Sus (Denmark)
Our Guide Yoko was amazing. From the clear communication before meeting us , the way she engaged with the kids through numerous pre organised activities. Very knowledgeable in her guiding us through Hiroshima. A really lovely lady We would recommend her to anyone wanting a guide in this area. She’s was great. Thank you. Jade ( Australia )
This was fantastic. Mari was a phenomenal guide. She has a personal family connection to the atomic bombing and she’s lived in Hiroshima all her life. She was knowledgable; funny, and respectful of my goals (sites, time spent, photo taking). And lunch was great afterwards!
Mari was a very good tour guide with a personal family connection to Hiroshima (her grandfather was a survivor of the bombing). She was filled with local and historical knowledge, and was very respectful of the subject matter. She was great in giving me space for my own personal moments as well as flexible with taking photos. She’s got a great sense of humor and we had a wonderful few hours together. 100000% better than doing one of these massive group tours.
Our guide Yoko was exceptional on this wonderful tour. She thoughtfully provided information about the places we visited and shared captivating stories. Her knowledge and passion made this our favourite experience in Japan. I highly recommend Yoko; she’s a joy to have as a tour leader.
Yuki was excellent. She was so knowledgeable and was also willing to share personal family experiences of the atomic bomb. While and extremely difficult tragedy to learn about, Yuki paced the tour very well for us to absorb everything.
Yoko was brilliant her thoughtful manner and explanations of what we saw was fabulous. Her explanations of all we saw at Peace Memorial Museum, Peace Memorial park and the Atomic Bomb Dome cenotaph and the Children's peace monument was kind and knowledgeable. We loved the Shukkeien Gardens and again Yoko was full of information. I have now done 3 tours in Japan but I can say with total certainty that Yoko was the best.
It was such a wonderful day with Yuki. She kindly took our family on a tour of Hiroshima and shared so many meaningful stories along the way. The tour was peaceful and thoughtfully guided, although it was deeply moving and at times difficult to see the painful history of Hiroshima. Yuki’s kindness and thoughtful storytelling made the experience even more meaningful. We truly appreciated the time she spent with us and are very grateful for this memorable experience. Thank you, Yuki! ❤️
Nori was great- educational, kind and patient. He tailored the tour for the senior in the group and engaged a 7 year old as well. It was a great experience.
Went on the tour trough hiroshima on the 6th of august. Shuji did amazing! When we arrived at the hotel he was there ready to go. He went above and beond expectations and gave us an amazing tour with beautifull and impressing sight. He kept a nice pace and was kind tje whole time. Also was he verry knowledgable about the history of the A-bomb and Hiroshima Castle. As well as helping us with extra tips and information for outside the tour. Can highly reccomend goin on this tour!!!
We had a memorable day touring and learning about the history of Hiroshima. Our guide, Hiroko, communicated clearly before and during the tour. She also adjusted our itinerary to keep us out of the sun on a very hot day. We appreciated that!
I was kind of scared of this tour since it was quite long: 4h (if I remember good) but it was super fun and interesting and also emotional, especially the museum. I had an excellent guide, Yoko. She’s fantastic! She so joyful and made that long tour feel soo short ! When it was finished I was like : what!? So soon!?. I’m 15 (a teenager that is really lazy) and I went with my family, so trust my opinion, it was really good. We visited important places, that everyone should know about and learned new things, that everyone should also know, cause this is real, this is history and also pain of Hiroshima. To finish, I really recommend this tour for families! It’s catching also for teens.
Amazing experience, would highly recommend. Very friendly, knowledgeable and willing to tailor the tour to our needs. Introduced us to traditional cuisine for lunch which was amazing and thoroughly enjoyable. Wouldn’t have found the restaurant without Aki and and experience our daughter will treasure. After the tour she was willing to bring us to some shops based on what we liked and hailed a taxi for us when we were departing. All in all would highly recommend and so thankful to Also for her time and bringing us around some of the historical sites as well as teaching us how to make origami crane birds.
Great experience and fantastic private tour in Hiroshima. Our tour guide, Yoko, had prepared the tour well in advance and we have tailored the tour also considering our kids (13 and 15 years old). The tour lasted around 4 hours. My kids and us all really enjoyed the way Yoko explained the history of the city, the museum, the dome and the garden visit. Highly recommended !

Minori was a gem of a guide! Lives right in Hiroshima and knows everything. Personable and knowledgrable. Do it!
Sei was wonderful from the start. He communicated with us right away and stayed in touch until we arrived, including when we arrived late at the train station. Because we had missed our ferry from Miyajima, our tour started late, and Sei was quick to adjust our itinerary. He immediately recognized that we were primarily interested in walking the Peace Park and diving into the history of Hiroshima and the nuclear attack. Sei focused on our interests, adding historical information as we walked around and took in the site. Sei has a wonderful temperament and demeanor, and was lovely with our teenage sons. He accommodated the short time we had at the Hiroshima museum because we took a lot of time in the park, and allowed us the maximum time for our visit by whisking us to the train station and helping us locate our next train platform (which we really appreciated). We highly recommend Sei to anyone visiting Hiroshima.
We had a wonderful private half day tour of Hiroshima. Rena was an excellent guide. We highly recommend the tour!
My son and I really enjoyed our tour with our tour guide Mari. She was extremely knowledgeable and engaging. We felt like she went above and beyond to ensure a good experience.
Had a wonderful tour despite rainy weather. Our tour guide Sachi was very knowledgeable and accomodating. Highly recommended.
Great tour and amazing tour guide. Can’t recommend Kazuko enough! She was amazing, so kind and with plenty of attention to details! Very knowledgeable and extremely patient and accommodating. Just loved her!
Mari was great and we highly recommend. we learned a lot about the history of Hiroshima, and our guide. gave meaningful insight into the tragedy of the bombing.
Mari was a fabulous guide and gave us invaluable insight during our 4 hour tour. The tour of peace memorial park and museum was so moving. Then we enjoyed a wonderful traditional lunch and ended with a lovely garden walk. Highly recommend!
Our tour of Hiroshima was amazing! Our tour guide Hiroshi made our visit to this Historical city very informative, relaxed with a few little surprises along the way. We can highly recommend this tour for couples or family who would like to have an enjoyable and sensitive insight to this amazing city.
Our guide Kazuhisa To was knowledgeable and made the tour interesting for all of us, including the kids. Hiroshima is a beautiful city with a meaningful history that is best explored with a guide.
We spent 4 hours with Mari during our day trip to Hiroshima and had a great experience. She met us at the train station and immediately made us feel comfortable with her friendly personality and local knowledge. Since Hiroshima is her hometown, it was interesting hearing her perspective as she showed us around. What I appreciated most was how she explained the history of the atomic bombing. It’s obviously a very serious subject, but she did a good job helping us understand what happened while also showing how Hiroshima has rebuilt and evolved into the city it is today. Mari also took us to one of her favorite spots for Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, which ended up being one of our favorite meals of the trip. We were traveling with our 9-year-old son, and she did a great job including him in conversations and keeping him interested throughout the tour. If you’re visiting Hiroshima and want a knowledgeable local guide, I would definitely recommend Mari.
Our guide was amazing. He shared so much history of the area. I would have like to spend more time in the museum.
Mari is phenomenal. You just can’t see Hiroshima without her as your tour guide. Has a keen sense of culture and knows how to pace the visit
Mari was the most incredible tour guide. Gave Such a personal experience in Hiroshima. The lunch place was a great local experience along with her knowledge of the city and the history absolutely recommend her and seeing the beautiful city.
We toured with Sei for 4 hours in Hiroshima. We were a family of 6 adults. He was excellent - full of energy, passion and information about the city, its tragic past and its hopeful future. Very knowledgeable and kept us at a good and appropriate pace. We particularly liked that he gave us some time to roam at the gardens and museum at our own pace. English skills are strong. Strong recommendation for him!
To-san was an excellent informative Guide who took great care to explain what happened in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He also spent his valuable time outside of our tour to write and advise on routes and was generally very helpful and caring.
Mari was an excellent guide. She is personable, articulate, knowledgeable, and an overall enjoyable guide. Mari introduced us to the local food and origami. We highly recommend requesting Mari as your guide. You will not be disappointed!
We have a wonderful Guide, To-san and he carefully explained and taught is many things about what happened here and in Nagasaki. It is a very levelling experience to hear and see the devastation.
Kyohisa To was our tour guide. To San was very well informed and instructive. He provided us with a detailed tour of Peace Memorial Park, the dome, and museum. Our tour experience was delightful. To San exceeded our expectations.
We had an enjoyable and informative tour with Yoko. She contacted us before our tour to understand what we wanted to do and provided us with a personalised itinerary. She fitted around our timetable and was kind enough to meet us directly from our train. She was extremely knowledgeable and spoke excellent English and helped us understand the history of Hiroshima, the museum and the peace park. She also took us for a great lunch of okonomiyaki at a lovely restaurant which we enjoyed tremendously. Highly recommended.
We spent a wonderful afternoon with Hayashi and couldn’t have had a better time. She’s very knowledgeable and speaks good English. We learned a lot and saw the amazing history and beauty of Hiroshima. Highly recommend!
