Kevin was an amazing tour guide! He was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and was able to answer all the questions that our group had for him. I learned so much on the tour that I did not know about Hiroshima and the days before and after the bombing. It was very hot and sunny today, but he was intentional about making sure we were in the shade and had places to sit and time to rest for those who needed it. He also gave us recommendations for things to do and eat after the tour. Overall, it was an amazing experience, and one that I am glad I booked!

Itinerary
Visitors begin their experience at Hiroshima Gogoku Shrine by exploring its elegant architecture and tranquil surroundings. Originally established to enshrine the protective deities of Hiroshima domain, the shrine now also serves as a place of solace and remembrance for those affected by historical events.
Hiroshima Castle, also known as Carp Castle, is a historic landmark in Hiroshima, Japan. Originally constructed in the 1590s, it served as the home of the daimyō (feudal lord) of the Hiroshima han (domain). The castle was an important military and administrative center until it was destroyed by the atomic bomb in 1945. It has since been reconstructed and now functions as a museum that offers insights into Hiroshima's history, Japanese feudal architecture, and the samurai culture of the Edo period. The castle's grounds, surrounded by a moat and lush gardens, provide a scenic walk and a peaceful retreat from the modern city surrounding it.
Hiroshima Green Arena, officially known as Hiroshima Prefectural Sports Center, is a multi-purpose indoor sporting arena located in Hiroshima, Japan. It is often used for a wide range of sporting events such as basketball and volleyball matches, as well as for martial arts competitions. The arena also hosts a variety of other events, including concerts, exhibitions, and cultural festivals, making it a versatile venue within the city.
Orizuru Tower is a modern and innovative addition to Hiroshima's cityscape, located right next to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. Opened in 2016, this 13-story building is known for its distinctive architecture and the panoramic views it offers of the surrounding city, including the Peace Park and the A-Bomb Dome, one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites.
The Atomic Bomb Dome in Hiroshima, originally the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall, stands as a solemn reminder of the devastating power of nuclear weapons. Located near the blast's epicenter, it was one of the few structures left standing after the atomic bomb was dropped on August 6, 1945. This haunting ruin, with its exposed steel and crumbled walls, has been preserved as a peace monument and UNESCO World Heritage Site. It symbolizes the hope for global peace and the abolition of nuclear arms, serving as a poignant educational and contemplative site for visitors worldwide.
The Children's Peace Monument in Hiroshima, located in the Peace Memorial Park, commemorates Sadako Sasaki and the thousands of child victims of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Inspired by Sadako, who developed leukemia from radiation exposure and folded origami cranes as a symbol of peace and healing, the monument features a statue of her holding a golden crane overhead. Surrounding the statue are thousands of colorful paper cranes sent from children around the world, symbolizing a universal wish for peace and the abolition of nuclear weapons.
Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park is a poignant site dedicated to the memory of the victims of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. Located in the heart of Hiroshima, near the epicenter of the explosion, the park is home to several important monuments, memorials, and museums, including the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, the Atomic Bomb Dome, and the Children's Peace Monument. The park itself is designed to promote reflection and peace, featuring lush greenery, tranquil water features, and broad pathways. It serves as a reminder of the tragic consequences of nuclear warfare and as a symbol of a continuing commitment to world peace. Each year, thousands of visitors from around the world come to the park to learn, remember, and reflect on the events of 1945 and the importance of peace.

I could not recommend this tour more. Kevin (our tour guide) was so passionate about the all elements of the history of Hiroshima that is was a pleasure to listen to him.
This is an excellent tour to understand the history of Hiroshima. Our tour guide Thomas was wonderful! He was very knowledgeable and we couldn’t have asked for a better person to give us tour. I would recommend this tour highly to anyone who is visiting Hiroshima. The tour is ended near the Peace Memorial Museum and we then went on to visit the museum with plenty of time left before the museum closed.
Brilliant tour, would totally recommend, it was just the right amount of time and showed us all the keys points. Our guide Thomas was brilliant, very knowledgable and friendly. He gave us a really good understanding of the key issues.

This walking tour was amazing! Our tour guide Emi was very fun and very knowledgeable. She was great about making sure we stopped for breaks and we had enough time to take in the different stops on the tour. She had a great perspective on the history as well. Amazing!
Chisa was our tour guide at the Hiroshima Peace Park Walking Tour. She was fantastic!!! She provided a very thorough and passionate tour of the site. We spent close to three hours and enjoyed every minute. Highly recommend the tour and especially Chisa.
Thomas was a superb guide. Exceptional English and as a history buff, very knowledgeable. Combined with a good sense of humour and a relaxed manner he has been the best guide we have had.
Wonderful afternoon. Our guide was so engaging and knowledgeable. We all loved our experience. Thank You
This was a fabulous walking tour with tons of information. Thomas, our guide, made the entire history of the region come alive. He had a set of photos to illustrate his stories. He was great about stopping so we could take pictures and he also answered all our questions. He even started off with a cute story about how he met his wife in a 7/11 store.
We had a nice tour guided by Emi, she was very knowledgeable and a true local of Hiroshima!! It was a sad area to visit however we can always hope for peace in the world one day, sad to see the pictures of the victims of the bomb, very sad and hopeful that we learn a lesson to continue to try to get along and always pray for peace!! Thanks to Emi tried the authentic dish of the city and enjoyed it very much!!! I would recommend people to visit this town and the bomb area and say a prayer for world peace!!
Excellent guide Thomas. 5 stars
Excellent tour, our tour guide was amazing, EMI was very knowledgeable, passionate and friendly. We learnt so much from her about the history of Japan, up to and beyond the dropping of the A-bomb. She also made an excellent recommendation for dinner, sampling a traditional Hiroshima dish.
If you visit Hiroshima and don’t do this tour you are missing out on truly understanding what this city represents.
This tour was fantastic, we highly recommend. The history in this city is deep and seeing the places that we visited and hearing the stories from our leader, Emi, was incredible. Emi was enthusiastic and ready to discuss all things history and life today in Hiroshima. Thank you Emi for bringing this history to life for us.
Wonderful tour.! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and very patient with all our questions., of which there were many. Highly recommend this tour.
This tour was extremely informative, interesting and respectful. Kevin our guide was so knowledgeable and passionate and was really invested in taking us on the journey with him. I highly recommend this tour. Also I had my 80 year old mother with me and it wasn’t to taxing for her and Kevin made sure we had time to rest a bit half way while he continued to educate us
Emi was a great tour guide and Subject matter expert. We had a great time and would absolutely use her for future tours.
Emi was our guide and she was terrific! Being a local and having a long history here brings a lot of credibility and respect. She was very clear and easy to understand. Organized the content with periodic stops and discussions. She looked to understand who the people were on the tour to help curate a more personal experience. I recommend this tour! We were able to book the day before. We tipped as the experienced was great.
The guide gave me a truly special experience. Although I am Japanese, the guide introduced me to parts of Hiroshima’s history and related places that most Japanese people today probably know little about. The guide was also very flexible and thoughtful, explaining important information in Japanese when needed to help me understand. We also took regular breaks, with places to sit and rest, so I had no trouble keeping up with the walking. Overall, it was an enjoyable and memorable experience.
A very interesting and somewhat sobering experience- we learned a lot from the inimitable Emi, who was not only informative, but also kind, caring and always kind and smiling.
A great tour, very well paced, and very informative. Amy had a really great way of describing the history, and a nice loud voice. Would highly recommend 👍 (Just one point, do eat before you get to the castle area, as there are very few eateries for lunch)
Thomas was a great guide and very knowledgeable about the history behind the event. Nice small group so asking questions was easy
Thomas was very knowledgeable and did a great job in a limited amount of time. Very much worth the time at the right price
A very informative and well paced tour. Our guide Thomas was knowledgeable and answered many additional questions.
Our tour was so informative and Kevin did a wonderful job with Hiroshima’s history. He did it with such grace, humor, and the reality of that era. It was entertaining and impactful.
This was a wonderful tour. Kevin is knowledgeable and thoughtful and very good at conveying the information - and very generous with his time. This tour was moving and also inspiring with hope in the goodness of humanity. Highly recommend, thank you Kevin
Emi was a fantastic guide, who spoke passionately about her city. Unexpected insights into the background to the bomb.
Just the right amount of history! 2 1/2 hours on your feet but well worth it! Thomas a was a great guide.
Emi was truly the best guide we could have asked for, energetic, funny, instructional, we learnt so much and would love to have another tour by Emi. Emi was inspired by so much history and personal experience. thank you.
An absolutely essential experience in Hiroshima. Our guide, Thomas, managed the impossible: breaking down a massive, emotionally complex historical event into a narrative that was clear, deeply respectful, and incredibly moving. Walking through the Peace Memorial Park and seeing the Atomic Bomb Dome with his insightful context completely changed how I understood the history. It is factual, human, and unforgettable. Highly recommended.
Insightful, informative and engaging event. Thank you EMI for your enthusiasm and ability to convey an understanding of the issues leading up to the Hiroshima bombing, and its subsequent impacts.
It was amazing! There were only 3 of us in the group and Anna gave us so much information in the21/2 hours. .We walked through a small market area, some modern buildings that had people throwing paper cranes out onto the road. And then af course the Memorial Building itself as well as several memorial statues. Hiroshima should be so proud of the work that they have done to make this area truly magnificent and so moving!
An informative and moving experience in Hiroshima After a great experience in Kyoto, we booked another tour through Viator in Hiroshima. Our guide was warm, kind, and knowledgeable, sharing valuable historical context that helped us better understand the places we visited. It was a very good tour, but also a deeply moving experience. Visiting Hiroshima carries an emotional weight, and our guide approached its history with care and sensitivity. A meaningful experience that will stay with us long after this trip.
Emi was a great tour guide. Spoke very clear English and included everyone in the conversation. She covered a vast amount of information and gave us the Japanese view of many issues.
We have been to several guided tours in Japan, and this exceeded them all. Our guide, Kevin, was incredibly knowledgeable and an amazing speaker. Thanks to his excellent and thoughtful guidance, our introduction to Hiroshima and its history could not have been better. Taking this tour with Kevin as our guide was one of the highlights of our trip.
A very good walking tour with Thomas, covered lots of fascinating history and a real insight into the bombing. Strong recommendation
Our tour guide Emi was fabulous and so full of enthusiasm, and passion for her home town of Hiroshima. I highly recommend her and this tour.
The tour guide provided a well paced and thoughtful presentation of the castle, shogun history, and WW2 events leading to the A Bomb event. The walk was the castle to the victims memorial was an easy trek with multiple stops for the guide to explain the significance of the location.
Emi was fantastic- her passion and knowledge of the history of Hiroshima kept us engaged for the full 2.5hrs. We highly recommend her as a tour guide.
I’m grateful to have enjoyed many history tours in several world destinations. This one beat them ALL. Our guide Emi made it so!! Her expert knowledge is exceptional and her articulation and graciousness was much appreciated. She shared her passion for beautiful Hiroshima and imparted that to all of us. Arregato Emi and Trip Advisor!
We had a great and incredibly knowledgeable guide in Thomas. He was able to answer all our questions and told and explained the complex history in a way we can remember. Very interesting and moving tour.
The BEST tour that we have done on this trip to Asia (South Korea and Japan)! Emi (tour guide) did a superb job of explaining the history of Japan at war, the events leading up to the dropping of the Atomic Bomb and the aftermath. It was a factual and balanced review, and I learned a LOT! The A Bomb dome is a sobering reminder of the effects of this extremely deadly weapon, and serves as a warning to future use. We did not leave enough time for a visit to the Peace Center after the tour, unfortunately. I highly recommend this tour.
