Stephanie was amazing! She kept sharing interesting stories and local trivia. If you are looking for something beyond the standard Atomic Bomb tour, this is it. I would describe it as Hiroshima's hidden-gem tour, and it's definitely something I'd proudly recommend to others.

Stephanie created a very nice experience for us. She is so kind, funny and thoughtful. She shared many interesting details about the shrines we passed, how to show respect to the gods and about Hiroshimas past. The tea ceremony was really special, although the forest bathing was to me, personally (and surprisingly), the best part. It was a little bit (too) expensive, but I totally recommend this activity!
Our guide Stephanie was awesome! She explained everything so clearly and thoroughly across the shrines. We loved how she shared little details that would go unnoticed, made the trip fun and interactive through small quizzes and activities. The best part of the tour, in addition to understanding the cultural symbolism, was the forest bathing and the open air matcha tea ceremony at the end. Stephanie is amazing! We loved our time here and will keep coming back to go to all the places she recommended we couldn’t in this trip.
Highly recommend this tour. We had our 13yr old nephew with us and Michiyo kept him engaged. Great to wear your kids out and learn about a temple. Beautiful views at the top.
Stephanie was a wonderful guide! She was attentive and taught me so much as we hiked. I liked stopping at the small temples along the way and having the opportunity to worship at ones I thought resonated with me. After we reached the top, we took time for “forest bathing” by using our five senses to connect with the nature around us. Shavasana among the trees was a lovely way to rest after the many stairs up. It was certainly healing. The tea ceremony overlooking Hiroshima was our “taste” sense, and I had the opportunity to make the matcha, too. Stephanie took lots of pictures and sent them to me afterward, which I especially appreciated since I traveled alone.
This is a beautiful, peaceful tour in amongst the trees. We enjoyed the knowledge and friendly chat with our guide, Stephanie. The forest bathing was very relaxing and fun. Beautiful spot for the tea ceremony. Thank you for the photos Stephanie. Highly recommend
We had such a wonderful experience with Michi (our guide) and she was very informative and gave us such a wonderful tour. We can highly recommend.
This was a wonderful tour climbing up Mt Futaba (not a demanding climb for most). Very peaceful and close to nature with shrines and an open air tea ceremony at the end. Michi was an excellent guide and the whole experience was very enjoyable.
Would highly recommend this when you go to Hiroshima. The tour was an experience greater than I anticipated. Naomi was a wonderful and knowledgeable guide. The rich information and stories about the sites, along with the opportunity to embrace nature.. it was holistic. The 500 step hike up Mount Futaba starts with Toshogu temple, with stops at shrines along the way up, at the top you have panoramic city views from the Futabayama Peace Pagoda. On our decent, Naomi led me through a forest bath - which was an amazing way to connect back with nature and get grounded. This was followed by a mountaintop tea ceremony with more spectacular views of the city below,
Great experience with very professional guides
Naomi provided an insightful tour of the mountain temples. The panoramic views of the city and sea are truly spectacular. Enjoying local tea and snacks on the mountain was a highlight. Highly recommended for those who enjoy an active outdoor experience.
A very peaceful and quiet experience. If you’re a big fan of hiking, nature, and experiencing cultures, this is the tour for you.
We had an amazing experience on our hike today. Naomi was the kindest person and so knowledgable which made our trip extra special. The tea ceremony was so authentic and thoughtful. We would recommend this experience to anyone who loves beautiful scenery!
Had a really fun morning with Nana. She shared lots of information. The hike was very interesting. Keep in mind there are a lot of stairs to climb but at each landing is a beautiful shrine. Our tea ceremony overlooked the city. We climbed to the Peace Pagoda where she shared meditation rituals. Highly recommend this tour.
Thank you, Naomi. It was a wonderful morning with a great breakfast. Thanks also to Cotty for the tea ceremony. It was really a unique experience in Hiroshima and I understand a lot more about Japanese culture now.
Great tour with Mishi. Very experienced with lots of knowledge. Thank you for a great time!
It was an amazing experience to walk on top of Mt Futaba. Since it was national holiday, I had a private tour with Stephanie! I learned about the history of Hiroshima Castle and Shinto. The view at the summit was beautiful, and I loved matcha tea.
I had a wonderful morning on the Asageshiki Tour with Stephanie. She explained everything very clear and easy to understand. We also had great and sunny weather which made the view during the tea ceremony even better. Can definitely recommend this if you are into hiking and enjoy being outside just relaxing.
If you are looking for an experience other than Miyajima & Peace Park, this can be a good option. You can enjoy nature walk, beautiful scenery and learn history all at the same time! Like they say, it’s really another face of Hiroshima…I never knew that I could see stairs with red Torii gates here, not as major as the ones in Kyoto or Motonosumi though, quite good because very quiet and tranquillizing with much less tourist .
We had a lot of fun and learned especially about the shrines and how to behave. The tea was tasty and the view was awesome. Thanks Nana!
I had a wonderful morning in the mountains of Hiroshima on the Asageshiki Tour with Naomi. From the pick-up at Hiroshima Station, we walked to the Toshogu Shrine, where Naomi explained the history and meaning of this special place in a way that was easy to follow and genuinely interesting. As we continued uphill toward the Peace Pagoda, we passed several smaller shrines, each with its own significance. What stood out was that Naomi also shared how she and a group of local people help maintain the path—something that made the experience feel personal and rooted in the community. It was clear these places and the surrounding nature are very close to her heart. We also took time for a short meditation, which was surprisingly powerful and engaged all the senses. On the way back down, Naomi prepared a beautiful tea ceremony and explained the meaning and preparation with real passion and care. This tour was far more moving than I expected. I can highly recommend it and I’m very grateful to Naomi for her dedication and warmth. A truly special memory.
This tour is excellent! Great way to start the day. My guide Michi was so nice and sweet. The views from the top of the mountain are fantastic. I highly recommend this tour.
Transcending morning bliss visiting several shrines climbing all the way up to the top of Futabayam a hills peace tower. A morning wake up hike and ended with sweets and matcha tea by Stephanie. Thank you for the wonderful day Stephanie 🙏☺️
It was a real pleasure to make the tour and the tea ceremony with Ms. Michi. Such a lovely person!! We had great weather and a fantastic view over Hiroshima. The forestbreathing was also a very spiritual experience and the tea ceremony was a great highlight. Thank you for the wonderful tour!!!
It was great. We walked through the temple, up the stairs, our guide knew everything and was very patient. If you want a great tour, book this one
Thoroughly recommend this tour, Michi was a delightful and informative guide who clearly loves nature and the environment. The short but strenuous hike is well worth it for the lovely views and visit to the forest and Peace Pagoda.
A nice hiking in a mountain featuring a great shrine. We received some historical explanations and fun facts and did some activities, like a very appreciated tea ceremony after the hiking with some treats.
Michi was an absolutely fantastic guide. She was so friendly and knowledgeable and we felt that she genuinely loved being a guide. The tour itself was great, but our highlights have to be the tea ceremony with Hiroshima as a back drop and forest bathing which was a first for us.
This was such a special tour of Mt Futaba and Hiroshima! Our guide Stephanie was warm, personable, and very knowledgeable about the events, traditions, and culture of Hiroshima throughout various periods of Japanese history. The hike was beautiful and Stephanie made sure to let us stop often to learn, experience, and take many photos. She led us through a beautiful forest meditation in which we were able to rely on our senses and connect with the forest, and she ended the hike with a lovely tea ceremony in which she even taught us how to prepare our own matcha. The climb was not very strenuous, but was very beautiful and very informative. Thank you so much again, Stephanie!
Our guide Nana was knowledgeable and kind. She led us on a hike up a mountain path of shrines, ending at a Buddhist relic. Along the way, she guided us through Shinto practices and explained their meanings. She even helped translate our names into Kanji! We ended with an activity to help us contemplate nature, and a lovely tea ceremony overlooking the city. Highly recommend!
My wife and I had a great morning with Michi! It was very nice to get away from the busy streets and explore the quiet shrines and beautiful forest. Her stories about Hiroshima and its history were wonderful. The tea ceremony was such a nice experience. Thank you Michi!

the first real day of our trip to Japan, we met our guide from Asageshiki at Hiroshima station. We had a lovely talk while we walked to the first stop on our morning tour and found out a bit about history, as well as the area. She has grown up in the area and so was knowledgeable. We started the day at a temple and were able to learn about many of the practices one should follow when visiting a shrine, as well as the meaning of many of the practices. This shrine did withstand, although renovated, the atomic blast, and was where many of the wounded were brought. Next we went up 433 steps to the top of a mountain in a first, an amazing forest smack dab in the city, a lot of it was original and had survived. We got more lessons on history, culture, as well as a workout. We also found out that a portion of our tour fee was used by Asageshiki group and many volunteers to care for and improve the path up the mountain, we got to see progress photos of their work, which was very impressive. Finally we reach the top for an absolutely amazing view of the city. After soaking that in we had the opportunity to have a very delicious bento box style breakfast and tea ceremony. It was honestly the best way to start our trip in hiroshima. As we walked back down the mountain we were able to get good advice about our plans for the day as well as advice on places to eat. I must recommend this tour for anyone coming to the area if you are fit enough for a slow, but lengthy climb. You will be rewarded with knowledge, a tasty meal, and an amazing view.
We took the tour in late April and the weather was perfect. We had a clear view over Hiroshima whilst enjoying a cup of matcha. The tour guide (Michi) is a very lovely lady, we enjoyed her company very much and it was a pleasure getting to know her. At first we went to a local temple and afterwards took a short hike up a hill which is close to the temple. There we went to a Buddha memorial. Afterwards we had the forest bathing experience, but don’t wore, you won’t have to bring swimming trunks, as bathing means absorbing the forest itself. The main part of the tour was the tea ceremony, in which Michi prepared freshly brewed matcha for the two of us and explained more about the cultural aspect. She even gave us tips as where to head next on our city trip and what places are worth a visit. Overall a very nice experience with a lovely tour guide :)
We visited the Traditional Lacquer Art Studio of Naoya Takayama, World Renowned Japanese Lacquer Artist and Craftsman together with Hotta Michiyo our English speaking tour guide and interpreter. I can recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in Japanese Craft
Nana was friendly and helpful. I enjoyed spending the morning with her and the other tourists. Only three of us came this time. The tour also supports the maintenance and beautification of the trail, so I felt very positive about being there.
Wanted to know what was up north above hiroshima station. Surprisingly peaceful and quiet experience. my guide Naomi is quite knowledgeable and when walked me through Toshogu shrine then up a hill from that shrine. Explaining various historical facts about the area and shrine etiquette . Up on top, it's a wonderful view overlooking Hiroshima city and Miyajima. And a informal tea ceremony to enjoy the peace. Highly recommend if you looking for some peace and quiet and want to know more.
Private tour with Nana, our charming tour guide. She explained us the Hiroshima Toshogu Shrine and led us to the Futabayama peace pagode. Afterwards we had a nice tee ceremony with a lovely view on Hiroshima. Thank you!
Great way of doing something different in Hiroshima. The view from the top of the mountain was worth the hike. It was interesting to learn about the shrines & the history of Hiroshima as well as having the customs of the tea ceremony explained. The tea was lovely & the forest bathing was a new experience! Michi was an excellent guide
A truly wonderful and unique experience! Easy/Moderate hike - there are lots of pauses and stops that makes the climbing quite doable. Michi is a lovely and thoughtful guide!
We had a fantastic time on this tour, with our tour guide Nana. It was great to see a different side to Hiroshima and we learnt a lot about Japanese culture. The tea ceremony and guided meditations were great too. Would highly recommend!
It's a tour where you can hike up Mt. Futaba, which is visible right from the Shinkansen's Hiroshima Station, and enjoy matcha tea at the summit. As a Japanese person, this was my first time experiencing this tour, and it was very fulfilling. I was surprised to find such a lush, green forest so close to the city, and the view from the top was wonderful—you get a panoramic view of Hiroshima. In Hiroshima, attention usually focuses on the Peace Memorial Museum and Miyajima, but I was amazed to discover a place that can make you feel so enriched beyond those. I think anyone traveling to Hiroshima should definitely participate. Even Japanese people are surprised! I want to join again.
Great tout. Hiking up the hills just outside the city visiting Shrines along the way. The tea ceremony at the top was really good topped off by great views. Nana was a really pleasant and informative guide.
Amazing tour hiking up and visiting the shines in the hills outside Hiroshima along with a traditional tea ceremony. The views up there are great. Nana was very pleasant, informative and makes a great cup of matcha tea.
I believe this tour serves as a perfect Plan B destination in Hiroshima City, bridging the historical and physical gaps between the Peace Memorial Park and Miyajima. We had a refreshing experience hiking up the small mountain, Futabayama, guided by the friendly locals, Lily and Stephane, as we passed through serene shrines along the trail. I was surprised to learn that the mountain is so close to Hiroshima City! I was impressed by the variety of experiences packed into the morning tour. Our tour was specially customized to be more regenerative, featuring not only an open-air tea ceremony and visits to historical shrines but also forest bathing and participation in local trail maintenance. The breathtaking panoramic view of Hiroshima City from the summit of Futabayama made the hike even more rewarding. The tour company, Asageshiki, appears to specialize in unique morning tours aimed at encouraging visitors to enjoy an overnight stay in Hiroshima. They also seem to welcome volunteers for their trail maintenance efforts.
Please give this tour a go if you are ever in Hiroshima. Michi and Stephanie were so warm, kind and knowledgeable, and we had lots of unique experiences we wouldn't have had without attending this tour. The views are spectacular, Michi's passion and love for Hiroshima and it's nature is contagious, and the tea ceremony is a special moment. Thank you Michi and Stephanie for a wonderful morning.
It was a great time. Michi is a lovely guide! The hike, view and tea ceremony were very nice ! We could discover an another side of Hiroshima thanks to this tour and thanks to Michi ! We can't recommend this tour highly enough.
I really liked everything about this experience. Our tour guide Michi was excellent, very knowledgeable and made the group feel very welcome. She was fantastic at answering questions and made the whole experience run very smoothly. The walking in the forest, tea ceremony and spectacular views are memories I will always look back very fondly on!
I had a wonderful time hiking into the forest with my tour guide! Nana was very knowledgeable of the Shrines, and she was quick to delve into the history about Hiroshima, as well as the shrines themselves. My favourite part was the Forest meditation, I highly recommend everyone take part. Don't worry about how it might seem in the beginning, fully immerse yourself into what she's asking, and you'll have a great experience. The tea ceremony at the end was well worth it. We sat at the top of the mountain, and you can overlook Hiroshima while you drink tea. Nana prepares the tea a certain way, and it's quite enjoyable to watch. I am coming again the next time I'm in Japan!
The guide, Naomi-san is a polite, kind-hearted and knowledgeable person. The hiking trip, is a short but memorable unique experience. Starting from the Hiroshima Eki, which is a convenient gathering spot as the hotel maybe just next to the station (it is in my case). So even it is a little bit early (7:30 AM), it is not a big deal. Also solo participation is absolutely okay, and I can actually enjoy a one to one private tour experience. 👍 How nice. We walked up and up through the shrine, the trees, then the Futaba-san top. You can enjoy the astonishing city view and even seeing Miyajima from there too. The Shinlinyoku (bathing in trees) is a nice experience to close your eyes to "see" through the obvious too. All in All, it is a very well organized and considerable, which may be one of the priceless characteristics of Japanese. Recommended to all.
