I happened across this experience just in time for the performance. I'm glad I did because this show was worth the money. There were even subtitles for the speaking parts in English but the show itself is already to understand without them.

We booked the tickets for the show in Hiroshima held on Wednesday, November 4th 2026 and absolutely loved it! The dancers and the musicians were fantastic. I stumbled upon this website and discovered this event completely by chance and couldn't be happier that we decided to book it. We have no regrets, it was such a wonderful experience to discover the traditional japanese dance and music. We highly recommend it!!!
Kagura is a performance so tied to the culture. It's clearly worth experiencing this for the story, the music, the costumes, and the action.
Great having subtitles and show explained. Lots to see and enjoy. Really liked the music and fantastic costumes. Thank you.
Fabulous show, fairly short but great value for money
First time going, great experience if you have never seen Japanese theatre. Play lasted 45 minutes which was perfect. The musicians were very good and the actors ranged from 4 to 53 years old. Two hosts, one of whom translates during the introduction. A display above the stage translates the play into english. For the extra coin do the back stage question and photo op, play the instruments and try on the costumes. We had a lot of fun and really enjoyed the experience.
Book this show. It is stunning. The dancers are volunteers but you wouldn't know it from watching them move. The costumes are bright and elaborate. After the show you have photo ops with the cast and dan try on costumes.
This was a highlight of our trip. I rearranged our trip to be in Hiroshima on a Wednesday night to see a Kagura performance once I read about it, and it was absolutely stunning to see this live. We saw the Shimogouchi Kagura Troupe perform, and they did an incredible job. I can’t recommend this enough.
It was an amazing experience for my family. As a Japanese person who grew up in Hiroshima, I used to watch Kagura at summer festivals, so bringing my family to Hiroshima from the U.S. made this a must-have experience on our itinerary. If the dragon had come out during the show, it would have made our son’s night. He was really looking forward to seeing it! But overall, the performance was amazing, and we all had a wonderful time.
Performance was captivating. Stunning costumes, beautiful choreography and even better music to follow along with. Truly a local treasure that shows classic Japanese culture. See if you have the chance
Perfect: actors , musiciens and stage customs are incredibles. It a traditional Japanese art with history The stage customs were incredible, wonderful
Fantastic, not-to-be-missed event. The explanation in English at the beginning of the performance was extremely helpful in understanding the action on stage. The performers and the musicians were excellent. Highly recommend. And when you buy through Viator you are guaranteed great seats.
A lovely performance. Incredible costumes, choreography, and music. Highly recommend for anyone in Hiroshima on a Wednesday night!
It was an incredible show. Very traditional, artistic and expressive, I loved it. The English supertitles were very much appreciated.
What an amazing performance. Highly recommend this show if your in Hiroshima
This was an amazing and exciting experience. We were blown away by the skills of the troupe and we are now fans of Kagura.
Excellent performance and well worth seeing. The subtitle screen definitely helped a foreigner like me understand the story.
The Kagura performance was terrific. The performers are very talented and the costumes are amazing. I had never even heard of Kagura before but was looking for a performance while I was here in Hiroshima. Highly, highly recommend. The price is very reasonable and the performance lasts less than 1 hour. It was excellent.
Started promptly. Good to have English explanation about history and story. Beautiful costumes. The show was just the right length. Excellent musicians
No what I expected. I thought I was going to see the dragons. It was nice to see the first opening show of the season. It was a little boring but the action scenes were good. It was very considerate for them to have translations on the screen. Cheers and kudos to the musicians and actors.
We were on a study trip in Japan and I took 6 high school students to see this theatre performance! We all loved it and it was a highlight of our trip! A copy of the storyline was provided to us in English and there were English subtitles above the performers as they spoke. Highly recommend seeing a Kagura theatre performance here in Hiroshima, it’s amazing!
The show was a great folk performance with English translation and subtitles. They also have post show picture opportunities with the performers.
One of the highlights of our trip. An exciting performance. Music, gorgeous costumes, fast action dancing. Explanation of performance in printed English notes and subtitles on stage. Met with performers after show. Recommend for any age.
If you are in Hiroshima on any given Wednesday, please...do not miss the Hiroshima Kagura Performance. This is truly a unique and spectacular show of dance, music, singing and mythology, wrapped in the most sumptuous costumes, wigs and masks. The building is modern and has easy access close to the Atomic Dome. There is a small selection of souvenirs to purchase in the Foyer before and after the performance. Do yourself a favour and purchase the Backstage Pass too, there are only about 20 tickets available per performance. There are English subtitles above the stage area. Staging itself is simple, but the costumes, dance performance and story telling transport you to a different place and time. All the cast are volunteers and devote so much time and effort to keep this ancient tradition alive. Highest recommendation!
From their newsletter: easy to follow stories, extravagant costumes, elaborate staging, engaging live music. It adds up to a magical night in the theater. The 45 minutes flies by. Fast-paced, fun, fascinating, & culturally informative. (And very reasonably priced: 1,500 yen for any seat in the back third of the theater.) I really want to see more.
This was such an amazing experience! The staff was great and very friendly. The stage was beautiful and the seats were very comfortable. I loved the play! The music was beautiful, the actors were so agile and expressive, and the special effects were spectacular. Such a great experience. I would go again in a heartbeat!
We absolutely loved the performance. They had English sub titles on a screen above the stage so we could understand the story. 10/10 👍
This is an interpretative dance show taking approximately 45 minutes. English subtitles are provided but not really necessary as there is very limited spoken word, and you are provided with a written synopsis of the legend in English ahead of the show. The music and dance were very impressive and the costumes were outright stunning. For our performance, there was an opportunity to take photos with the performers afterwards, including an option to take a photo whilst wearing a costume.
This show was incredible! I would highly recommend going to see it, you will not be disappointed. The speakers at the beginning explained the story you were about to see very well. And the sub-titles were awesome!
Our family really enjoyed this local play in Hiroshima and the performance was outstanding, from the musicians to those in costume. I would recommend arriving a bit early so you can get prime seating in the Viator section!
From the second I entered I felt very welcome. The staff are super lovely and dedicated to everyone, audience and performers, enjoying themselves and having a good night. It is less than an hour of performance which suits my short attention span perfectly - It is a pretty nonstop show, especially for the musicians who are playing start to finish, and the performers are in very elaborate, heavily layered outfits. They all made it look effortless somehow, very impressive! I'm sure I would have melted and fallen off stage in the first 2 minutes. 10/10 I will definitly come to see another show here next time I'm in Hiroshima.
This was a wonderful performance by a local group. They played to the audience and their passionate performance was rewarded with a standing ovation. A must see!
My husband and I attended the performance of “Yamata No Orochi” and absolutely loved it! The costumes are so intricate and fascinating, the performers are passionate, talented, and energetic, and the MC who additionally supplies English translation, Hitomi, is friendly and very professional in her translations. We felt very welcome! Highly recommended attending this activity if you’re in Hiroshima, it is authentically Japanese and gives a fantastic opportunity to learn more of the cultural practises in terms of plays/folklore. Thank you Hitomi-san!
It was a very fun and unique experience. The dancing of the actors was very impressive with tons of twirls and jumps in beautiful costumes!
Amazing experience, really impressive performance and the musicians were also really great. Would highly recommend to anyone. We took our children (10 and 11) and they also enjoyed it. Lasted roughly an hour and there was an opportunity after the performance to get pictures.
Great experience that I would highly recommend. Theater staff spoke English and were waiting in the lobby with a guest list to hand out my ticket. Took about 30 seconds to get in and get to my seat. It couldn't be smoother. I've had even Japanese people tell me they don't like traditional theater such as kabuki and noh because it's so slow and not very accessible, but this kagura performance was the opposite. It was short and sweet (1 hour), and absolutely perfect for someone who's new to traditional theater like me. I loved it, and definitely want to try more kagura, kabuki, and noh! Thank you!
Very traditional performance. The costumes are amazing and we got to try some of them on after the show. They are so heavy!
We were thoroughly entertained by this experience! The performers and musicians were top notch and we were mesmerized from the very beginning to the very end. Everything from the costumes to the special effects were amazing!
Thoroughly enjoyed the hour theatrical performance & live music. The theatre was great & the English subtitles were unexpected but totally helpful in understanding the plot & meaning of the production.
Dramatic, great costumes, interactive , ability to try on costumes and take pictures with performers
Very entertaining show with excellent performers and musicians. Thank you for English subtitles to help us enjoy even more.
The experience was great. We got great seating because we got there early. Also the food was very nice, and there were lots of little shops to visit as well as a Kagura museum. The entire show was very nice and entertaining; never dull moment.
The play was very well done. The customers were fantastic and they had an english Translator as well as English captions To make it totally accessible to English speakers
Started on time The English translation was great and easy to follow. At the end you have the take pictures. It was lots of fun.
The Kagura performers are so professional and very good. The costumes, music and dancing were fantastic. Of course the English subtitles really helped in understanding the play. Also the emcees did a good job explaining what we will experience and following up at the end of the show. I am so happy I went to experience Kagura.
This was a truly rewarding experience. When you walk into the center the Viator team greats you and you get instructions where to sit. The performance was perfect in length and easy to follow along.cant beat the price
Such an amazing show, they have a screen on top to show english subtitles. The actors and musicians were incredible. The show is about 40 minutes so you have plenty of time to do other things afterwards. They also have different sections for booking groups and the Viator group had a great view.
I enjoyed the performance very much and the timing of it was perfect. The costumes were so beautiful and colorful and I love the way they worked the different positions in them. As a tourist I lucked out to be able to be in town on the date of a show.
We found out about this performance by accident. We walked by the theatre and saw the poster. A very kind lady explained to us that the tickets will be sold at 6pm and the show starts at 7pm. Our accommodation was nearby, so we came back, the line wasn’t long, we paid 1200¥ per person. The spectacle was amazing, it was a unique opportunity to see local traditions. Huge thank you to the English speaking coordinator!!! They also provide English subtitles. If you are in Hiroshima on Wednesday it’s a must visit !
This was amazing! I definitely recommend going here, it’s very cheap for what you get: an hour of entertainment. The subtitles come in very handy as well.
