Itinerary
Our electric bikes offer an effortless way to ride up steep hills, providing a unique and enjoyable experience for our guests. Even those who have never ridden an Ebike before will be amazed by its power and stability. Once at the top, visitors can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the town of Oasa and the surrounding countryside, which is particularly impressive due to the mountainous terrain. Despite its stunning scenery, this place is rarely visited by the locals. One of the reasons why this tour is so special is that not many people come to this site. However, our guests have praised this picturesque location for its beauty and uniqueness.
This area is home to a picturesque farming community that has retained its traditional appearance from the past. The community is made up of quaint houses, numerous rice fields, streams teeming with wildlife and hidden gems that tourists rarely get to see. Cycling around the community is fun in itself, but we can also stop at certain locations to immerse ourselves in Japanese culture, making the journey even more special by learning about the lives of the locals, which are centered around agriculture.
As part of our journey we will stop for lunch at the Aino Sato Herb Garden. This restaurant serves a variety of fresh and locally grown vegetables and edible flowers that are completely free of harmful pesticides. You will be pleasantly surprised at how delicious these natural foods taste. The restaurant is also committed to using only natural ingredients and avoiding the use of additives in their dishes. There is also a vegan-friendly menu available on request with advance notice. After our meal, we can take a leisurely stroll through their garden to appreciate the beauty of the flowers, herbs and vegetables grown there.
Oasa's main street, once a bustling hub of people and shops, is now quiet and unhurried. The old buildings that remain are a testament to the town's past prosperity. Despite this, there are still a handful of shops on the street that cater to the needs of people from both inside and outside Oasa. It would be fascinating to explore these businesses and perhaps meet and interact with their owners. Learning about their passions and aspirations could have a positive impact on your life.

Great way to experience rural Japan. We found it very relaxing, away from the hustle and bustle of the major cities. Jonah was very open to our many questions as he loved to share his beautiful community with us. We highly recommend this gentle ride in the country.
What a wonderful fun, nature filled , Japan rich experience. We saw rural and real Japan out of the big cities and towns which I was desperate for and I wasn’t disappointed. Our guide Jonah was fabulous and speaks excellent English. He went the extra mile and came and picked us up from the port . The highlight apart from the amazing scenery and great company was lunch. What an absolute gem. All freshly grown and to eat a slice of mushroom that takes two years to grow felt like a huge indulgence and privilidge. Thank you so much Jonah.
Wow what a great experience we had with Jonah. We rode around the farmland and township of Oaso. Jonah was very knowledgeable about the town and local area. We met a 93 year old farmer who was so friendly and chatted with us about his life and experiences. We also had a lesson in making sushi. Our teacher was amazing and the meal was fabulous. A real highlight. Jonah’s instructions regarding getting the bus to the township were exact. The hour bus ride was enjoyable and allowed us to view the landscape of forests, small villages and farmlands. The bikes were electric so peddling was easy. The weather wasn’t great but didn’t diminish the experience. Highly recommend this experience.
We had the best time with Jonah on this bike tour in Kita-Hiroshima. Our 84 yr old father was with us and unable to ride so Jonah set up for him to ride in a car and meet us at stopping points. Turns out the driver was the owner of the company! Even though he only spoke Japanese, our dad loved spending the day with Takahiro. We also did a sushi making lunch with another of their employees named Fuji-san and she was just as great. Lastly Jonah took us to a sake brewery where we got to meet the town brew master and taste some great water and sake. The whole day was amazing and such a cool experience. Our 2 teenagers (14 and 16) said it was the highlight of our entire Japan trip! Jonahs kindness, communication, and accommodations were greatly appreciated. It was a quick and easy bus ride out with great scenery of the countryside. We will definitely recommend this to everyone heading to Hiroshima.
I highly recommend this bicycling tour. It was definitely the highlight of our trip! The town we rode through is absolutely beautiful, and Jonah was an excellent guide. His English is perfect, and we learned so much from him. He gave information and told stories about the different places and landmarks along the way, and it was a great way to learn more about Japanese culture outside the touristy areas. We met several people from the community along the tour, and they were all so interesting and fun to get to know. The lunch in the middle was amazing as well! The chef put so much love into her food, and she was able to accommodate my food allergies. It was the best meal we had in Japan! Thanks so much, Jonah, for an amazing day!
Great time with Jonah, (he's actually Japanese!) who speaks perfect English. e-bikes were adequate for getting up the big hills. Great scenery and lucky enough to meet some of the residents and businesses in Oasa. Lunch was one the highlights. Next time we will visit in the fall when we can see some color. It would be amazing. Their shuttle van came and got us at the bus top from Hiroshima and took us directly to the bike shop. Bikes were easy to operate. Hardly any cars around so navigating the streets was safe. There were multiple outings we could have done, and Jonah noted, after describing all of the things you can see, that we could alter our tour to see something else if we wanted. Would recommend this biking tour of Oasa and the surrounding area. It was also nice to be able to support local operators who personally have a stake in the business.
A real highlight of my two week holiday in Japan! So pleased we got to experience this really beautiful part of Japan, outside of the city and away from the crowds. The scenery is incredible! The e-bikes were great and made our adventure much easier. Jonah was a brilliant guide and is rightly very proud of this beautiful place. We loved it and would strongly recommend it!
Such a wonderful day in the countryside, experiencing a side to Japan beyond the cities & tourist trail. Jonah was an excellent guide, introducing us to locals & hearing more about his & their lives. A highlight of our Japan trip!
This is a lovely way to experience the Japanese countryside and rice farming traditions far from the crowds. This excursion was a highlight of our trip, and Jonah our guide (fluent English) made it fun and memorable. The al fresco farm to table lunch was an added treat with views of snow capped mountains and the tastiest tempura of the trip. Johah has lots of itinerary options depending on your interests. You can easily day-trip it from Hiroshima city.
Our cycling tour of Owasa with Jonah was 100% the highlight of our trip to Japan. It was so easy to get to the meeting spot via one bus from Hiroshima and Jonah was there to meet us. The bikes provided were excellent and it wasn’t long before we were off to see the fall colours outside of town. After the fall colours we biked to the top of a mountain and enjoyed incredible views and some classic 80’s songs on Jonah’s portable speaker. A highlight of the day was a visit with a rice farmer. We received a generous tour of his farm and were shown how they harvest and dry the rice for next years planting. The farmer is 90 years old and seems like he has another 90 years in him yet. We stopped at a rural property for lunch - the food was fantastic and they were able to address our food restrictions. If you like tempura, you’ll want to visit this restaurant! Jonah was well prepared with local history and is clearly passionate about the Owasa area. If you are thinking of including a day in the country on your trip to Japan, put this outing at the top of your list.
One of the best cycling trip i have done. Cycled through the hue of autumn, saw waygu cattles, cycled up and hill for a splendid view of oasa, had a delicious local lunch embellish with local edible flowers, visited a yogi for massage and even a local sake brewery. All in 4 hours. The ebikes made cycling a breeze. Our guide Jonas is funny and kept us entertained throughout. Highly recommended!
This trip is just amazing and it is a must for anybody who wish to see a different side of Japan! We had a fantastic time. Jonah is very friendly and he provided loads of information about Oasa, Hiroshima and Japan. We felt cared for and looked after the whole time. The lunch was just delicious and the place was breathtaking and very relaxing. Cycling in Oasa was one of our high-lights on our trip in Japan. Jonah offered two different tours according to our preferrences and abilities. The e-bike just made the day easier even for people who have not cycled for some time. I would highly recommend this trip!
What a great experience this was! We booked this trip while staying in Hiroshima. It was only 1 hours drive with the JR express bus. At arrival we were warmy welcomed by the owner and the guides. After a short introduction from the guide Jonah, we went off for a 4 hours trip through the beautifull countryside. Jonah showed us around while feeding us with interesting info about this region. It was good to have electric bikes, for there were some pretty challenging hills to climb😉 At top of one hill there was a special tree, the only one left of his kind, where we took some pictures. We had lunch in a litlle restaurant with a beautifull herb and flower garden. The lunch looked like a picasso painting with all these beautifull flowers and tasten Lively. We also went to a place where they practised foot-massage. We were invited to join and ofcourse we couldn't say no to that. It was a very enjoyfull experience. At the end of our tour, we also visited a sake brewery. The owner gave us a tour through his brewery and were invited to taste the different tasts of sake. Actually, they all tasted for more😁 but unfortunatly our tour had come to an end and we needed to get back to the bus station. It was the best day of our 5 weeks holiday tour and I would like to thank the guides, Jonah and Tak, for their warm and friendly guiding during this day.
We had an amazing time today! It took slightly more than an hour to get there from our place in Hiroshima, but it was definitely worth the trip. Our tour guide Jonah gave clear instructions on how to get there which was highly appreciated. He, and the rest of the team, picked us up from the Oasa IC bus stop and took us to the starting point. Here we got some information about Oasa and which potential routes we could take (depending on what we wanted to see). Jonah and our other tour guide Tak were very fun and knowledgeable! It was very interesting to hear their stories and share ours. It was also lovely to hear stories from other locals. We cycled through beautiful areas, including the Tengushide tree area, and we had a very tasty lunch (with vegan options available, which they were able to arrange very quickly even though I only communicated this request very late so that was highly appreciated!). We walked briefly through the herb garden of the restaurant, which smelled amazing, and bought an apple cake from them. After lunch it was time to continue our tour. We cycled through other beautifully green roads to a place where we were able to get a quick foot massage (? unfortunately I forgot the official name for it). We were also able to try it out for ourselves. I don't think we were particularly good at this, but it was a fun little break from cycling ;) Afterwards we cycled to a sake brewery and got a quick tour and sake tasting (which tasted very good!). This tour was very relaxing and a nice break from the city life. It was not hard physically at all because we had e-bikes. Jonah and Tak were great tour guides. They made the day a lot of fun and taught us many things. All in all, we would definitely recommend this tour if you want to see the beautiful countryside Japan has to offer or if you want a small break from city life. We would definitely book this tour again!
Such an authentic small community experience. If you are looking for a contrast from the big cities then this will be hard to beat. I had a great day out. Thanks
Great day! Active biking day, regular stops and lots of information. Jonah is a great tour guide. Although it was a rainy day (Jonah brought a poncho for me), I enjoyed this day very much. Information on the bus, schedule and pick up were perfectly provided. Thank you!
We very much enjoyed our cycling which we did as a day out from Hiroshima. Jonah's instructions as to how to get there by bus were very clear and he was there to meet us off the bus as arranged. Jonah's English is excellent and it was great to get his insights to life in Japan from someone who has experienced both western and Japanese cultures. The e-bikes made getting up the hill easy and our very tall family members (6ft 4+) were able to use them ok. Lunch was good. All in all it was a great break from the city.
Oasa is a very special place with amazing people. I had a great time with Jonah and his wife. Oasa is evidently beautiful even if it was raining during my visit. If you want an authentic Japan experience, I highly recommend this tour. Thank you to Jonah and his wife. They made sure that I feel comfortable the entire time. The entire experience is fun. With Jonah and his wife, I can say that I made friends in this beautiful town. I will always treasure the time I spent with them. I am really excited to go back and visit Oasa again. :) See you! P.S: To use the JR pass, just show your JR Pass to the bus driver before getting off the bus :)
Awesome people, awesome views, awesome stories. Oasa isn't a touristy place at all. During the ride I found mostly farmers during the harvest season with their machines. Jonah san speaks perfect English as he stayed in the US before. He also knows the place and the people, so you'll get first hand experiences of how the rural life in Japan is. The tour is well made for anyone. If you are a hardcore cyclist you can definitely ride the e-bike without assistance (harder than a road bike!), but if you are slightly less in shape then the top power mode won't leave you sweating at all. You can also gain a bunch of knowledge - I asked about Japanese myths, crops, traditional practices and somehow Jonah san can answer all of that. Simply impressive. Don't be afraid if you are going solo - it would be perfect for you too.
It were just the two of us: me and my husband. The guide had brilliant English knowledge. Bikes were electric and convenient to ride. Our first destination was the local mountain top where we found the most spectacular view of Ooasa and the valley. As we were preparing to continue our route, the weather surprised us with a heavy rain, so after our guide handed us rain ponchos, it was decided to head back and continue the tour by car. The guide was kind enough to bring us to the local Sake and wine brewery held by a wonderful hardworking local owner! We had a full tour of the 150 year old building and were astonished by how much it has changed and by the owner's hospitality and warmth! Then we went to see a tea house project owned and managed by an American guy. He had wonderful ideas and is well on the way of opening the place. If we return to Ooasa, we will definitely visit him again and taste his superb tea collection. Our last destination was a local restraurant hosted by a Japanese family and serving the most delicious mouthwatering japanese food prepared with locally harvested veggies. Absolutely the best! The organisers were flexible to adapt to the changing weather conditions and let us have the most magical experience tasting the real Japan! Thank you so much!
We had such a great experience on the Countryside Cycle Tour in Oasa with Jonah and Akira. We saw many beautiful views and interesting places, that we could not have found on our own. Among these a Sake-brewery, herbal garden, traditional farm house, where we had tea, rice fields and many others. Jonah and Akira were excellent guides and could tell a lot about the nature, culture and community of Oasa. It was easy to get there with the JR bus from Hiroshima. The bus ride was free with Japan Rail Pass and came with a beautiful view along the way. We definitly recommend going on this trip!
The mountains and fields stretching out endlessly were very beautiful. It was a very enjoyable time, hearing about the lives of the people who live there, the history woven from the local climate and natural resources, the current situation, and the future. Although there aren't any obvious tourist attractions, I could certainly feel the richness of the land and the ongoing activities that have been taking place there. Thanks to the bright and friendly guide, it was a very enjoyable time. Thank you very much.
Contrary to "city stress", I was able to switch off a bit in the beautiful landscape of 大朝 (Oasa). Also the food in the herb garden was excellent! In addition, I can recommend everyone in the area to take time for the Chinese Tea House. The tour is well structured with certain individualization options. Travelling by bus also worked without any problems and can be paid for directly with the IC card. Will definitely come back!
By JR Chugoku Bus (comfortable bus; free for JR Pass holders) it takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Hiroshima Station to get to the meeting point. During the bus ride you can enjoy nature away from the city of Hiroshima. Arriving at the meeting point, you are already expected by the guide Jonah. Jonah speaks very good English and is extremely friendly and accommodating! The e-bikes are then issued and instructed. I don't want to reveal the exact content of the tour here but it's worth it! You can explore the surrounding area in a small group of relaxed whites and get an insight into rural Japanese life and agriculture. All questions about land and people are answered willingly and comprehensively by Jonah. Initially we were skeptical, but can highly recommend the tour and would do it again at any time. Perfect for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the cities for a day.
I went on a tour in Japanese! If you are visiting Hiroshima, we would like you to extend your trip a little and participate. What impressed me was the view point overlooking the town and the pleasant cycling. I fell in love with this town because I saw the story of the town connected with it.^^ I'd love to join another season! Yona and Tagawa's guide was also Good!!
It was a beautiful and interesting bike ride through the lonely and breathtaking hinterland. The guide spoke perfect English and was super likable. All in all, we can only recommend this tour, especially if you want to have a break from the overflowing cities.
