Did the “Hiroshima & Miyajima in 1 Day” Tour with Shuji as our guide. Super enjoyable day which was well-paced and very organised. There were plenty of other tourists at the places we visited (Peace Memorial Park, Museum, Dome and Miyajima Island) but Shuji navigated our way through super-efficiently and the day never felt over-crowded or too busy. He also organised a great lunch, catering to our family’s dietary requirements well. There were some small additional expenses (admission fees for museum/shrine etc) and also train/ferry fares so best to have at least ¥1000 on an IC card (Suica/Pasmo) too. A good day-tour overall - Shuji was excellent and very knowledgeable - with great English and a real sense of humour too! Definitely get him as your tour guide if you can :)

Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park (平和記念公園, Heiwa Kinen Kōen) is one of the most prominent features of the city. Even visitors not looking for it will likely stumble upon the large park of over 120,000 square meters. Its trees, lawns, and walking paths are in stark contrast to the surrounding downtown area. Before the bomb, the area of what is now the Peace Park was the political and commercial heart of the city. For this reason, it was chosen as the pilot's target. Four years to the day after the bomb was dropped, it was decided that the area would not be redeveloped but instead devoted to peace memorial facilities. Admission Fee: ¥200
Hiroshima Castle (広島城, Hiroshimajō), also called the Carp Castle, is a notable example of a castle built on a plain in the center of a city. Its grounds are surrounded by a moat, and the castle precincts include a shrine, historic ruins, and reconstructed Ninomaru (second bailey) buildings. Built in 1589 by the powerful feudal lord Mori Terumoto, Hiroshima Castle was an important seat of power in Western Japan. Like the rest of the city, it was destroyed by the atomic bombing in 1945. ※Please note that Hiroshima Castle’s main keep has been closed to the public since March 2026 due to safety concerns. The castle can still be viewed from the outside, while the Ninomaru buildings, Ninomaru Museum Shop, and Sannomaru area remain open to visitors.
Shukkeien is a Japanese garden in Hiroshima, designated as one of Japan’s Top 100 Historical Parks and a National Scenic Spot. This article introduces the highlights of the garden, access information, and other tips to enjoy it.
Miyajima is one of Japan’s most scenic destinations, famous for the iconic floating torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine. Walk through charming streets, meet the island’s friendly deer, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this historic island. With a local guide, you’ll learn about the island’s culture, history, and hidden spots beyond the main tourist areas.
Miyajima (宮島) is a small island less than an hour outside the city of Hiroshima. It is most famous for its giant torii gate, which at high tide seems to float on the water. The sight is ranked as one of Japan's three best views. While officially named Itsukushima, the island is more commonly referred to as Miyajima, Japanese for "shrine island". This is because the island is so closely related to its key shrine, Itsukushima Shrine, in the public's mind. Like the torii gate, the shrine's main buildings are built over water. Miyajima is a romantic place, best enjoyed by staying overnight at one of the island's ryokan. While there are usually many day tourists, in the evening the area becomes much quieter and more peaceful. There are also wild deer on the island that have become accustomed to people. In the day the deer wander around the same sites as the tourists, and in the evening they sleep along the walking paths. Admission Fee: ¥300
Tenshinkaku(天心閣) is a Japanese old house looked single-story house cafe in Miyajima which is located on a hill. You can enjoy beautiful view of Toyokuni shrine, five-story pagoda and Seto island sea at once.

Hiroshi Tsuji is an extremely thoughtful and engaging private tour guide in Hiroshima and Miyajima, Japan. We spent a beautiful day with him on a personalized tour of the Miyajima Torii Gate and Ichiki Shima no Migato temple. Additionally, we had a solemn and moving experience at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. We would highly recommend Tsuji-san as a very professional guide who will deliver a truly memorable experience.
The tour started in Hiroshima. It was both a sad and beautiful experience. Seeing the peace park was amazing. The history inside the museum and all around was very sad but it’s taught and remembered in a beautiful way. We then went to Miyajima Island. The oysters caught locally were delicious. The Itsukishima shrine on the beach was legendary. Our guide took us to Daishoin Temple, which wasn’t expected but wow! It was my wife’s favorite temple on our two week honeymoon. Our guide, Sei was perfect! He had so much energy for being 80! We told him we hope to be in shape like him at that age. He grew up in Hiroshima and knew so much and where to go. A perfect day and weather too!
Toe was amazing and made the experience great for us. He’s very knowledgeable about every facet of the city and was always checking in to make sure everyone was comfortable and up to speed on the plan. Highly recommend!
Mari was an OUTSTANDING guide, and we honestly couldn't have asked for a better experience! Thanks to her, our day exploring Hiroshima and Miyajima was not only incredibly interesting and informative, but also so much fun from beginning to end. Her knowledge of the history, culture, and significance of both places is truly impressive. What makes her exceptional is her ability to go far beyond the usual tourist information, sharing fascinating details, deeper historical context, and stories that really bring everything to life. On top of that, Mari has such a wonderful personality! She's warm, enthusiastic, funny, and genuinely passionate about what she does. She made the entire day feel special, and we enjoyed every single moment. We wholeheartedly recommend Mari to anyone visiting Hiroshima and Miyajima, especially those who want to truly understand their history in depth rather than just learn the basics or visit the main attractions. Her insights add so much meaning to the experience. Thank you so much, Mari, for such an unforgettable day! You were absolutely fantastic, and we couldn't recommend you more highly!
We had Mia for our tour. Very experienced with lots of local knowledge and suggestions. English speaking guide and easy to understand.
We had such a great experience with our guide, Sei. He was incredibly knowledgable about Hiroshima and each location we went (Miyajima, Shukkeien gardens, and the Peace Park). We learned so much more than if we had just gone by ourselves and we really enjoyed getting to know Sei as well!
A comprehensive and very informative trip. Hiroshima visit was dealt with in a sensitive manner.
Mr. Kazuhisa To made sure that the limited time we had in Hiroshima was really spent well. He checked on the crowd at the Memorial Museum and made a little twist to our schedule so we will make the most out of our time. It was a very memorable learning experience especially to the kids. The kids also enjoyed Miyajima especially interacting with the deer. Mr. Kazuhisa was also very patient with my energetic 8-yo daughter, answering all her questions, which I appreciate a lot. Thank Mr. Kazuhisa To for the memorable tour.
What an amazing day and definitely a highlight of our trip to Japan! Hiroshi was the perfect guide for our tour of Miyajima Island and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Museum. The arrival logistics were clear and he met us personally at the train station platform. Hiroshi began our day by giving us an articulate and insightful history of Hiroshima, Miyajima island and Japanese culture as we ventured to the ferry to Miyajima Island. Once onboard, he ensured we had the single best location to view the Itsukushima Shrine and floating vermilion tori gate. Upon arrival, he continued to shuffle us through the crowds to the best viewing and picture locations. Hiroshi was so knowledgeable about the history of the island and the importance of the shrines and temples. He created a choose-your-own adventure regarding how to experience the island and we chose a nature walk and hike up into the hills overlooking the town. Hiroshi really gave us the local experience by taking us away from the crowds and then a fun walk-about through the town where we had lunch, coffee, visited hidden shops and explored various shrines and temples away from the crowds. Truly special. After lunch, we took the river boat to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial. He took us around the site of the bombing away from the crowds and tourists while giving a moving history of before, during and after the bombing of Hiroshima. This part of the tour was a moving, somber, yet also inspirational experience. Peace Memorial Park and the museum were both so powerful, tragic, thought-provoking and made even more so by Hiroshi’s guidance and stories. When we parted ways, we were left feeling moved, emotionally tired, inspired, and most certainly with a better understanding of the Japanese culture, people and complexities of humanity overall. This was one of, if not our favorite days of our Japan trip and having Hiroshi as our guide Hiroshi was integral to our experience.
An absolute surprise. Incredible details about certain aspects of life in Hiroshima and, above all, in Miyajima, that could only have been shared and highlighted by a local like Hiroshi. Beyond being an admirable guide, he proved to be a person of unparalleled warmth and generosity. An experience I would 100% recommend.

An amazing experience. Our guide Mari was so friendly and knowledgeable about everything Hiroshima had to offer. It is always great to learn about a city from someone who was born and raised there. She provided us with so much information about everything we saw and even gave us a lesson in origami. I would highly recommend this tour and if you are lucky enough to get Mari as your guide, you will not be disappointed.
It would have been a little more helpful if we knew approximately how much money to bring for entrance fees and the boat ride. We did enjoy the museum and the Island with the deers. Our guide, Akie, took us to a very enjoyable, authentic Japanese restaurant.
Hayato is an amazing tour guide. He is extremely passionate and knowledgeable. It was a very emotional day and one will always remember.Seeing the children there singing and all of the origami cranes touches our hearts. Hayato even taught us how to make our own.
This full day tour is an experience you cannot miss, and we highly recommend Hiroshi as a guide. Despite adverse weather conditions and uncertainty around the tide, he managed to arrange the full tour of Miyajima and the memorial park as promised, and we couldn't be more grateful! Thanks Hiroshi-san, until we meet again
Hayashi was a wonderful guide. We were delayed leaving ou r cruise ship and she patiently waited for an hour, then adjusted the itinerary so that we were still able to see the sites that we wanted to. Harassing was very informative and we learned a lot during the tour. She helped us keep up our pace so that we didn't miss anything. I would highly recommend this tour, especially with Hayashi.
We were met by Shuji, and he was in contact with us well in advance and we could tailor ehere to meet and what to do. A fabulous day in Hiroshima and Shuji knows so much and knew all the shortcuts to cover a lot in one day. Invaluable to us and we had just a really fabulous day including a lunch in a place we would never have found. Worth every penny.
Mickie was a fantastic guide! Very knowledgeable and pleasant! The museum was very well done-very informative and heart wrenching. The gardens she took us to was beautiful! Myijima was amazing. On the way to the island we stopped at a restaurant recommended by Mickie. It also was top notch!
Excellent tour. Learnt a lot about the history and heartbreak of Hiroshima. Beautiful area and definitely at least 3 full days there would have been better. Our guide was wonderful.
we can’t say enough about our day with Hayato. he picked us up punctually with a friendly face at the port. He was engaging, sweet, highly knowledgeable, and just fantastic his depth of knowledge, combined with his incredibly special outlook on hiroshima and the world at large made this experience incredible. He took us for such a delicious truly authentic lunch as well. he has an excellent command of the English language, but again his kindness and outlook for world peace and positivity is truly a gift and it our gift to be with him truly grateful.
We were blessed to have Sei as our guide. He hosted our day with passion, respect, and an educational narrative we will remember. Visiting Hiroshima’s memorial park was a sombre experience. Thank you Sei for sharing your knowledge, wisdom and your home city.
Fantastic tour, learning about the city, the shrines, the deers, the history.
When we first planned our trip to Hiroshima, my sister and I didn’t know what to expect, but after arranging our tour with Akie, she immediately messaged us months in advance which helped ease our concerns. On the day she came to our hotel, she was so friendly and welcoming. She explained all our options for transport for the day and proceeded to take us around the beautiful sites of Miyajima island in the morning, and then we went to an amazing, traditional Japanese Anago-meshi restaurant. To end the tour we were shown the peace memorial park, whilst this was a heavy topic she made sure we were okay throughout all of the tour and was so insightful, answering all our questions. We also mentioned that we loved sushi so she helped recommend good restaurants to us and we managed to try one of them out- it ended up being one of the best quality sushi restaurants we’ve been to during our first Japan holiday with reasonable prices too. Overall she is a lovely person and very knowledgeable about the local area and having lived in multiple areas of Japan, she is very well versed in the cultures of Japan. Would highly recommend her for anyone wanting to learn more about the Japanese culture/history and wish her all the best! Thank you again Akie for the brilliant day together- we will treasure it forever!
Minori showed us so much. We were on a group tour and splitting from the group for the day, and it was well worth it. The best experience we had that day was the restaurant she chose, a place that a tourist wouldn’t have found. Thank you Minori.
Hiroshi was great, we highly recommend him He is well informed and freely shared his knowledge of the events and the area we visited. He was very helpful in navigating thru the crowds to make our experiences more enjoyable
Our tour guide Mari made this the most memorable experience of our Japan trip. She was so knowledgeable about Hiroshima and the MirajIma island. We had fun, laughing and sharing our cultures. We have a new friend in Japan and look forward to keeping in touch. I definitely a must do tour in Hiroshima.
We met our fabulous guide Hiroshi (coincidental name!) in our hotel lobby for our whole day trip to Miyajama and around Hiroshima. We travelled first by train (tickets gratefully organised by Hiroshi) and then by ferry to the beautiful little island of Miyajima, where we encountered some lovely deer and we visited the famous Itsukushima Shrine and its iconic Great Torii Gate, which at high tide appears to float on the sea. Despite the rain, it was stunning. Hiroshi was full of interesting facts and information and we learnt so much about the area and its history. We then had a guided tour through the traditional village, browsing the gift shops and the cake shops and trying some snacks and even being taken into a traditional house which was really interesting, before stopping for a fabulous sashimi and fried chicken lunch, again organised by our guide Hiroshi. Then it was back on the ferry and train to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, where we saw the Atomic Bomb Dome and its preserved ruins, very close to what Hiroshi described as “ground zero.” It’s probably the most recognisable sight in Hiroshima and a powerful and moving reminder of what happened here in 1945. We also visited the Children’s Peace Monument and learnt about Sadako Sasaki, who began folding origami cranes which have become a symbol of hope and wishes for recovery, with thousands made and left in special glass displays at the memorial. Hiroshi took us inside and expertly taught us to make our own which we were able to add to the collection. The day finished with a visit to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum — a deeply moving and humbling experience. This was a fabulous tour, Hiroshi was an excellent guide and despite the weather this was one of our favourite days in our 20 day tour of Japan.
We had a fantastic day touring Hiroshima and Miyajima with our guide, To. To was extremely organised, informative, and helpful. He balanced a morning of heavy and somber subject matter with an afternoon and beauty and joy. To also took us to a fantastic okonomiyaki lunch which was a highlight of our time in Hiroshima! I would recommend a tour with To for anyone visiting the city looking for a deeper understanding of Hiroshima’s history. The tour was a standout experience during our multi week trip in Japan!
My 14 year old son and I had the most wonderful day with private guide Hiroshi in Hiroshima and on Miyajima. Hiroshi was very knowledgeable about the sights and together with his very kind personality we felt we had a very special day - so enjoyable and forever memorable! Thanks you so much Hiroshi for your dedication and for today - we were very fortunate to have you as your guide🙏. We give Hiroshi the very best recommendation.
Minori was a great guide. And I thank her so much for following our wishes for what we wanted to see in Hiroshima. She corresponded with us by WhatsApp before the trip and even gave us restaurant suggestions for the night before we were meeting her. We asked for a local food experience and it was an excellent experience.
Our guide, Hiroshi, contacted us the day before our tour to explain the itinerary and check whether we had any questions, which was a really nice touch. On the day, Hiroshi met us in the reception of our hotel and accompanied us on a fantastic walking and train tour of Miyajima and Hiroshima. He was extremely knowledgeable, spoke excellent English and shared some fascinating information about the history and culture of both places. Hiroshi made the whole experience enjoyable, informative and stress-free. We would certainly recommend him to anyone wanting to explore Miyajima and Hiroshima. A fantastic guide and a memorable experience!
Sei was our guide and he was excellent. He communicated with us before the tour to confirm everything. He was so knowledgeable and patient. He was an expert on the Peace Memorial Park and Museum…all the historical sites. We had a wonderful experience and highly recommend this tour. Request Sei to be your tour guide. You will not be disappointed!
Great experience. Toshi was an awesome Guidd. His personal knowledge of the historic day made it extra special.
Yoko was an absolute pleasure to tour Hiroshima with. She was extremely kind with a great personality, and her warmth brought us some truly unique opportunities we couldn't have found on our own. She was a wealth of knowledge on every site we visited. Highly recommended.
Absolutely the BEST day in Hiroshima because our guide was so amazing! Hiroshi was simply great in all aspects of the day. Communication, pre-planning, itinerary, his passion for his country is fantastic and we loved every minute of it.
We have been in Japan for 1.5 weeks and have done a number of tours. Hiroshi was the best guide we have had. He made the day so special and really gave us a true feeling for the Japanese culture. It was the best day!
Our tour of Hiroshima and Miyajima with Nori was fantastic! He was extremely knowledgeable and answered all our questions with ease. His English is excellent, making communication seamless throughout the day. He was also very flexible and easily adjusted our itinerary on the fly when needed. We had an incredible time and highly recommend Nori!
We had a great guide today Kenji Kasama who took us on an incredible tour of Hiroshima and Miyajima. The tour of Mayakima including shrine and templ was enlightening. He knows the history well. He also took us to try some great oysters. He suggested taking the high speed ferry to the Dome memorial and Hiroshima museum which saved us a lot of time, so more time to better understand the history of the bomb on Hiroshima. Kenji was excellent and was able to explain the history and human catastrophe in the peace park memorial and the museum. Very sad history but the resilience of the people to rebuild after the devastation is amazing. Thank you Kenji for a wonderful day and educating my family.
Leo (Ryosuke) was a great, friendly and patient guide for our family, offering just the right amount of information for us to appreciate the Hiroshima Peace Park and Museum and the Itsukushima Shrine. Our time was limited and he adjusted the itinerary to make sure we got back on time to the station, helped us to find the best place for lunch and was very helpful throughout the day.
We had a wonderful experience exploring Hiroshima with Hiroko! She was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and passionate about sharing the city’s history and culture. Her insights made the experience both meaningful and memorable. We really enjoyed our time with her and would highly recommend her to anyone visiting Hiroshima!
The tour guide was warm, helpful, and professional
Excellent experience and very informative guide. We got our money worth with a authentic view in to japanere culture in Hiroshima and Miyajima.
If there were 10 stars I’d give Kenji Kassma 10. Super smart super knowledgeable and the nicest most accommodating guide ever. Wish we could have brought him along on the remainder of our trip. Thorough without getting arcane. He knew secJapansret places that most tour guides miss. Navigated our day to perfection. At the end of our day, I was actually sad to say goodbye. If you could get him. Book ASAP
To was an amazing guide. He was an excellent communicator and planned a perfect day for us in Hiroshima. He was thoughtful in his planning and very gracious with timing and made our day seamless and enjoyable.
Mari made our day super special. The private tour with her was worth every penny, and we count ourselves very lucky we had her as our guide. Miyajima island was so beautiful, Mari suggested we go when the ride is high and it was completely worth it. The peace park and museum were also beautiful, and Mari kept us informed on all the historical monuments and stories throughout this part of the tour. Again, I would highly recommend this tour and if you get Mari then count yourself extremely lucky!!
This tour was absolutely fantastic! Mr. Sei was wise and a spectacular host. His insight, passion and professionalism, made the entire trip, memorable and worthwhile. I would highly encourage anyone visiting thearea to book this trip and request his presence and insight.
What a great day. Our guide Lisa was very responsive right from the beginning and made sure were getting the experiences we wanted. She had our whole day planned and sent us the itinerary well in advance. She met us on the platform of the train station as we came from Kyoto so we didn’t have to worry about where to meet her. She even took is back to our train platform at the end of the day. She accommodate us during the day when we wanted to do some shopping instead of the temple. I love that this tour was just our family and we saw some amazing things. I would highly recommend.
Mai is a fantastic guide. She is very knowledgeable about the history of Hiroshima. She adapted the tour to suit our interest and gave us all the time we needed at each stop. A wonderful experience!
We had an amazing day! Our guide Kenji was very friendly and made the experience extra special. Would highly recommend this tour.
