Honestly this is the best activity we did in Japan. All the staff was incredibly welcoming and we learned a lot of things and had fun. We dressed with kimono, we made the tea ceremony, the calligraphy lesson, and the amulet creation with a last pray to our wishes to become true. どうもありがとうございます!

This was a lovely experience from beginning to end. The location is exceptionally beautiful, and I learned so much from the calligraphy lesson as well as the tea ceremony. Their hospitality was fantastic.! I would highly recommend this as a place to go while traveling here
I went to Okeiko on a whim for a calligraphy and I really enjoyed my brief time learning the strokes. I got some souvenirs. I would like to thank the teacher for her patience and small talk
Our day at Okeiko was wonderful. The entire experience from beginning to the end was amazing. The team were extremely welcoming and kind and made us feel really comfortable. They guided through every step of each activity and shared their beautiful culture. We couldn’t have asked for a better day. Would definitely do it again. Such a beautiful way to discover traditional Japanese culture. Cannot recommend this place enough!
Very interesting and fun activities! I especially loved wearing kimono and getting amazing photos taken commemorating the occasion. It was interesting to learn what goes into making an amulet.
The whole program was a wonderful new experience for my sister and me but everything made it better getting to wear a kimono during every activity. Thanks a lot to the workers they really do a good job.
Amazing location and great people! Their patience and knowledge made the whole experience very memorable.
If we could give a thousand stars, we would :) We had soooo much fun. The ladies who guided us were super friendly, both in Jpanese and English. They are professional and kind. The activities we booked (Kimono, amulet, tea ceremony, and calligraphy) were really fun. If you want a taste of Japan in a short time and a beautiful setting, this is something for you!
Everything about this activity was absolutely perfect. We had an amazing time learning how to write kanji and making our lucky charms. The tea ceremony was also very interesting to watch, such attention to detail in every step. Being able to dress up in kimonos made this whole experience extra special and the photos and videos taken will be forever cherished, what a fantastic time!
This was an all-around fantastic experience! The hosts were informative, gracious, and we left knowing far more about Japanese culture than when we started. This was well worth it!
This experience has been the highlight of my travels so far. I was initially worried that attending alone would be weird, however everyone was so kind and welcoming. The hosts were lovely and so helpful especially when I felt overwhelmed choosing which kimono to wear (they have so many beautiful options). Overall it was a wonderful experience that I would definitely recommend to everyone!
They were all so amazing and personable. The tea was delicious, even as someone who doesn't usually enjoy tea. They were able to also help give instructions in English, and we're super kind. I highly recommend the experience if you're on the island!
This was such a fun and special experience!! My friend and I did the full gambit, consisting of the kimono dressing, tea ceremony, calligraphy and amulet making. The three women who worked with us were phenomenal. They were kind, patient, and engaging. Overall, just a really gentle and happy vibe. 😊 Thank you for being our teachers for the afternoon! A wonderful experience that will always be remembered!
This was like stepping back in time. The ladies were so welcoming and took great care to give us a memorable experience.
We only did the short tea ceremony. We learned the Japanese names of the tools and followed the movements of our guide. It was fun (though challenging for lefties) and the tea tasted very nice. I think the full experience would have been even nicer as you can enjoy more parts of the Japanese culture.
Great place! The women working here welcomes you in the best way. Lots of choices in choosing kimono, belt and accessories. The the-ceremony was great, you even make your own the (matcha). The vibe is calm. The staff takes great pictures of you. Even though the time set is 2 hours, they are not in a hurry. Most friendly Japanese people we have met, and talks understandably english. One of the top 3 greatest experiences we had in our 12 days stay in Japan. Go if you can!
Having spent a month in Japan for the first time watching the recent Rugby World Cup, where we enjoyed over a dozen other activities, this combined experience was one of the highlights of the trip for my wife and I. We were only in a very small group and the level of attentiveness, friendliness and patience (!) of our teachers on an island that is, itself, alone worth a visit make this an experience I would strongly recommend to couples or families.
This is the second time I've visited Okeiko and the experience was still as wonderful as the first time. Of all the activities in Miyajima (and there is a lot to do!), this is my favorite. We really enjoy the care and attention to the kimono dressing, the beautiful tea ceremony, and the calligraphy class. The location is gorgeous, historic, and peaceful. The instructors are kind, funny, and answer any of our questions. I will probably come back for another visit or two before I move from Japan!
We taked the whole package with Tea Ceremony, Calligraphy and the cooking in Kimono. We enjoyed this moment. It's was a pleasure to wear and to chose a kimono. We learned how to write some "basic" words (like "love"; "dream" ; "infinity") with ink. The explanations were meaningful. The cooking was interesting and we learned some tips, in order to re-do it at home. Finally, the the ceremony was a great moment. We enjoyed it and I would sincerely recommended it.
I have lived in Japan for 1 year and this was one of my top activities so far. If you have time you should book one of there activities. The people are sooooo nice and we had such a great time.
As a family of four, we all agreed that this was one of the highlights of our holiday. From the moment you arrive and are dressed in full authentic Japanese dress to the moment you are waved off down the street when you leave, this is a high quality, authentic experience. We enjoyed all three activities, they were perfectly paced and we were taken through the cultural context as well as the practicalities - we were very proud of our calligraphy efforts, relished having a go at making matcha, and enjoyed the food we made. Our hosts were so friendly and helpful, explaining what we were doing all the way through, and taking loads of pictures for us. Cannot recommend this too highly.
We had an amazing experience, activities were fun and it was really nice to learn about proper rules during traditional tea ceremony.
My adult daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our opportunity to be dressed in a Kimono of our choice, to learn and write calligraphy, to make rice balls with interesting ingredients, and to be part of the tea ceremony. The events were well organized and the right amount of time was provided for each. I appreciated the hand-out on making the rice balls , so I can try making them!! The 3 women were gracious, interesting and helpful. We learned a lot and are very grateful to each of the women! Thank you!
This should be on everyone's must do list! The island is beautiful. The house and yard is gorgeous and the women are so kind and friendly. We were dressed in traditional garb, learned how to male rice balls, do Japanese writting and learned about the tea ceremony. This experience was one of the top things we did in Japan. It is truly a gift to have the ladies share their stories, traditions and culture with us. We absolutely recommend this!
This was a highlight of our 5 weeks in Japan. My husband and I loved this cultural experience and have recommended it to others. The three ladies sharing their customs were delightful! We learned so much about some of the traditions of Japan. The smiles we left their home with, stayed with us for days. Oh, and how fun was it to wear the traditional Kimonos while learned about their culture. We highly recommend taking the time to do this! And you will love that they took pictures of you during the whole time you were there! Many thanks to our new Japanese friends!
Really one of the best expiriences we had in Japan! It was really personal - it was just the two of us in the Spring 2019 season and they really cared about us! We brought the best memories from here to our home :) Really do this expirience! Its out of from the big tourists crowds around the red gate tori gate in the water :)
A friend and I did the set of 3 experience. The staff was very kind, friendly, and really made us feel welcomed and were excellent teachers, they were very encouraging throughout each experience. I would definitely recommend anyone visiting Japan to do this to really experience Japanese culture in a beautiful and peaceful setting.
My two girlfriends and I had the most wonderful time with this cultural experience and in such a lovely setting! The Japanese ladies were so warm and welcoming to us, and seemed to enjoy us as much as we enjoyed them and our visit! Surpassed our expectations!
We have done a 3-week tour of Japan, going from Nagasaki all the way to Tokyo, but this by far was our best experience. Located in a beautifully kept traditional building, we were received by 3 Japanese ladies, who introduced us to a few of Japan's traditions; tea, calligraphy and kimono's. Being the only 2 guests for that session, we got all their attention. My fiancée and I were both taken to separate dressing rooms, and given the choice of a wide variety of kimono's to wear. Ofcourse, the gents have slightly more subdued colors than the bright floral-patterned kimono's of women. The ladies are there to help you get dressed, and meanwhile explain to you the intricacies of wearing a kimono 'properly'. Next we were taken outside for a small photo-op. The backdrop of the building with the surrounding gardens makes for some beautiful pictures, which were all sent to us by email later on. Exceptional service! The level of care was maintained throughout the entire session, with photo's being taken during the tea ceremony and calligraphy as well. This allows you to fully enojy the experience. The staff takes great care in explaining the history behind each tradition. If you are interested in the traditional side of Japan, this is the one spot you must have visited during your stay.
My daughter and I ended up having a private tour on the day we arrived on the cruise ship and had plenty of time to find the location with the directions sent by vendor. The staff was excellent and very personable interacting with us during every stage of the tour. This was one of the best tours that we did in the 11 days that we spent touring Japan.
We did the set of 3 experiences, including tea ceremony, calligraphy and making onigiri. We loved all 3 experiences and they were each different and unique. All the staff were very knowledgeable and lovely and we felt welcome. It was a great way to experience and learn more about Japanese culture. We would highly recommend okeiko.
For my Birthday I did the 3 set workshop. I was welcomed by two lovely ladies already in kimono who made me feel right at home. First they dressed me in a kimono of my choice with hair accessory in which everyone would look and feel beautiful. After that I started with the calligraphy. First you learn the basics and then you can try a word and your name. It was a lot of fun to do. After this was the tea ceremony which felt very special and I loved doing it myself! My final workshop was cooking in which we made Onigiri which I could decorate with nori and eat afterwards. I did the work shop solo and was given an amazing amount of personal guidance and attention. The staff is very kind and their english was good. They make pictures of you during the workshops that they send afterwards so you can completely focus on the workshop (ideal for solo travelers!). My Birthday has been very special thanks to these lovely people! Do not think twice, just do it, it is absolutely worth it!
We were a party of 7, and had an amazing day here. After a short ferry trip over to the island and a short walk to this 300 year old zen temple. We were warmly welcomed by the beautiful staff. We did the set of 3 kimono, tea ceremony and Japanese calligraphy and had a ball. First we all got dressed up, great choices and the ladies were very helpful. We then did the calligraphy part, which was very well run, we got to take home all our work, which they wrapped up in cylinder for us. Next was the tea ceremony, which was very interesting. After taking photos we got changed and our wonderful experience was sadly over. Highly Recommend, a great culture experience!
okeiko Japan Miyajima ...is my first and unforgettably experience !!!!they are too kind ,lovely, polite and the most important they respect all the travelers
This is a must do, its worth going to Miyajima island, just to do it. It is situated in an old temple which has been turned into a cultural centre. The staff are absolutely fantastic oozing wonderful gentle natured traditional Japanese manners. We tried Zazen origami Calligraphy and cooking and they helped us dress in traditional kimono and yukata. The staff attend to every detail to make help you get completely immersed. It has definitely been the highlight of our trip to Japan. 100% worthwhile and Miyajima the island is really interesting and beautiful as well.

We arrived a little early so we could wear some kimonos. Then one of the hosts took our photos in the beautiful garden. Then we learned how to prepare matcha and perform a tea ceremony. Then we did some calligraphy. You select which kanji you would like to write/paint and you practice a few times so you can pick your favourite to take home. Then we made some onigiri with our choice of fillings and had some miso soup. The guides were all very friendly and really enthusiastic about sharing their culture with us. The shrine where we had the experience was also beautiful with lovely gardens. This was one of our favourite experiences in Japan

This was like super awesome much better than expected! Everyone was great and we left with a better understanding of the culture! Great experience!

I recommend this experience with the trio kimono, tea ceremony and calligraphy. A peaceful, serene and so caring place. The hosts were wonderful in their welcome, kindness and knowledge of the discovery of traditions. I was very touched by this place in Japan! Live this unique experience!
A great experience of different Japanese traditions: first we were allowed to wear a kimono (this can go relatively long for women), then we enjoyed a tea ceremony and learned a little calligraphy (not even so easy). Everyone was super friendly and patient, we felt very welcome! There were also many pictures taken of us in the kimono and at the tea ceremony. Overall, the course is not quite cheap, but you get a lot for the money!
The area was quiet and untouristy, which was a little experience in itself. There was a wide selection of beautiful kimonos. There was plenty of time to take photos together in the garden. The organizers also took lots of photos during the whole event and made them available to us at the end. The tea ceremony and calligraphy were very interesting, there was a lot of information about it, the hosts spoke good English. The amulet and the wish that went with it rounded off the experience nicely. It was also nice that we got souvenirs to take home (our own calligraphy and the amulet). Definitely recommended for anyone who wants to experience Japanese culture!
It was a great experience. They helped me a lot. All three ladies were sweet, friendly, knowledgeable and charismatic. They showed great patience in choosing the kimono. Amulet and calligraphy touched me deeply. It was very instructive. The tea ceremony was amazing and the best matcha I have ever had. I'm glad I learned. Both chocolate and confetti were very nice. I want to visit again with my child and wife in the future. Greetings from Turkey. Thank you for everything. It was the best morning of my life.
It was a great experience! My partner and I really wanted to dress in kimono and do the tea ceremony, but then we saw the expanded pack with calligraphy and making amulets and we thought it was very curious. We were practicing Kanjis and we took a wooden spoon that we decorated. We also made an amulet, which I was very curious about because of all the temples we had visited, what they had inside. The staff was super friendly and they are very respectful of people's needs (whether or not you want photos, the height of the chairs, what you need to practice on paper before starting to write on wood, hehe) The photos were great. I recommend the full experience if you've never done it before and like us, you're curious. We enjoyed it a lot! Personally, I will repeat when the kimono tea ceremony comes back!
The place is beautiful and the hosts are lovely. Possibility to choose your kimono and all accessories, the calligraphy workshop is great. Thank you for the wonderful Welcoming.
Very nice experience in the heart of Japanese traditions! A bubble of serenity and benevolence awaits you!
Very nice experience, warm Welcoming:) the setting was idyllic, l staff with little care:):)
While wearing a kimono and a traditional Japanese home atmosphere, I learned how to write Japanese writing using a black pin and a black pin. Very attractive and suitable for all ages. I also learned about the "tea ceremony" which I admired with the gentleness they showed during the process. As Muslims, do not worry about joining their cooking classes because they will make sure the ingredients used are 'muslim-friendly' Conclusion.
