Excellent guides who took the time to explain everything as well as provide knowledge regarding rescue in cold waters. They even let us jump off the boat w our drysuits on. Great fun!!
Great fun! We had a really good laugh on this experience. Olli was fantastic and very knowledgeable.
It’s fun! Do it!! Also relaxing and educational. Maeys is so knowledgeable. We felt safe with her at all times and she was so friendly. Definitely a must do while in Helsinki
Wow, that was definitely an experience. I was extremely nervous before we started walking on the ice and getting in the water, but the guide was so reassuring that we forgot fears and trusted the suits. This is something you need to try
What an incredbile, fun and informative experience! Best of my traveling career so far! Ollie was an amazing, funny, kind, knowledgeable guide and I have recommended him and this experience to all!
It’s so much fun! The suits keep you warm and it’s a lot of fun swimming in them. Our hosts were friendly and entertaining.
The training team was patient and encouraging. The first time I have done this so we were a little scared. The team put us at ease and we quickly built confidence in the survival suits. Soon we were jumping on the ice to breakthrough. I was concerned about how I would get out of the water and back on solid ice. The instructor explained his technique and it made exiting very easy. I would definitely try this if you have a chance.
Would highly recommend this trip to anyone, fantastic 2 hours spent walking and floating in the frozen sea in Helsinki, Olli was fantastic from start to finish and made the whole experience enjoyable.
Such a nice experience of surviving course on the ice. Though the sea was frozen, we could swim in the iceholes, have fun and enjoy the sun 🌞 Olli the guide was very nice, explained everything clearly and cared for everyone’s safety and comfort during the course. 10/10.
Ollie was a wonderful guide and the experience was amazing! We all really enjoyed swimming in the icy Baltic Sea and really didn’t feel the cold. It was a unique experience that my family will hold dear in our memories!
This was the MOST fun. Olli was so knowledgeable and a great guide. He made sure we were completely safe while we were on the ice. 10/10 experience. They give you extra socks, mittens, and sweaters. I was so warm in the suit it was almost too warm. I would definitely do this again! Highlight of our trip to Helsinki.
Absolutely fabulous experience in the ice! Ollie looked after us (two women in their 60s) so well and after some relaxing floating amongst the ice we felt brave enough to try walking on the ice until it cracked and broke and we were in the water with the survival suits doing their job brilliantly. Just the best experience
One of the highlights of our trip. Our guides were so helpful and knowledgeable. Never felt cold and were well insulated in our suits.
We had a fabulous time! We had a nervous swimmer and someone very trepidatious about the cold in our group—and both had an excellent time! The crew really made all of us feel at ease, even on a pretty rugged day in terms of the weather and wind. The experience is totally unique—and something we did when stranded in Helsinki for an extra day due to cancelled flights—and it is now an unforgettable memory from our Great Nordic Adventure of New Years 2026! Highly recommend!
Fantastic family fun with brilliant and interesting instructors - Patrick and Sonny. A fun couple of hours on the lake!
Great experience. Staff was excellent. Very helpful. If you haven’t done this before it’s worth doing.
I went with my partner and 2 friends, and we all had the best time! It has definitely been the highlight of our trip to Helsinki so far. The tour guides are so professional, friendly and welcoming, and knowledgeable. Suits were well maintained and organised. We loved it, can’t wait to try another experience with Redrib.
Highlight of Helsinki! The tour was well organised and the tour guides were so friendly and helpful. We had so much fun, highly recommend to anyone coming to visit Helsinki. 10/10 experience!!!
If you’re looking for a unique experience in Helsinki, check out this redrib survival suit experience. It’s a fun and relaxing way to enjoy the outdoors in the winter. We were surprised how warm it stays in the suits and even got to practice jumping into the water following our guide.
Very informative and safety conscious guide. He made us feel at ease the entire experience. I would highly recommend this experience
The tour guide was very nice, very informative. He made my son and I feel very safe even though I cannot swim. Wow, floating in the Baltic Sea. Priceless!
My son decided he wanted a trip to Helsinki. I agreed to take him if he planned an itinery so we didn't end up sitting in the hotel room surfing pads and phones - you must all appreciate that! Adopting the 'Breaking Dad' model, he came back with the 'Survival Suit Experience'. I apprehensively agreed. I booked online (direct with the RedRib website for a few Euro cheaper) after emailing them to check availability. We found a hotel within walking distance of the agreed start location and off we flew. We turned up a few minutes before the start time and were welcomed by Oli. Oli was very knowledgeable and talked us through what we were about to do and why, explaining hypothermia and its effects in detail. RedRib have a mobile changing room and we (and the other participants) entered before being given extra layers of clothing if required and a thick pair of socks. Oil explained the process of donning the suit (no we didn't manage it in the 60 seconds you get in an emergency!) before we headed out to the harbour. Then the fun began... Oli demonstrated how to enter the water and get used to the suit before getting back out and watching us in one at a time whilst videoing our initial reactions! We had a little float, and yes, it is very relaxing. Trust the suit. After a few minutes we learned more survival skills and linked up to form a chain - obviously the bigger and brighter the target the more likely you are to be found in the event of a real rescue. After that, we learned how to 'stand up' wearing the suit and felt the pressure on our lower extremities. All the time, Oli was taking videos and photographs. Then the jumping in began! We climbed out and went to a different part of the dockside. Whilst everyone was a little apprehensive at first, Oli explained different ways to jump in depending on whether you wanted to go under the water or not. Once we had all jumped in, we learned how to self rescue onto a RIB. Some could do it, others (myself included) needed a little bit of help. Everyone joined in and we rescued the 'team'. Free time was had after that - some went back to float, the more adventurous did a jump, swim and rescue cycle... Surprisingly 90 minutes went like that - bearing in mind the suits are designed to keep you alive for 6 hours at a push - it was plenty of time. We hopped out and Oli helped us doff the suits. Apart from one of us (who decided to jump in backwards!) we were all completely dry and were able to continue our day without getting changed. Oil distributed the photos and videos to us for souvenirs - and yes, it is an experience I won't forget for a very long time. Would I do it again, YES!
Brilliant and fun experience. Quite relaxing and something different would highly recommend. Oleg or ole was amazing.
We had such a fun time doing the survival suit experience. Everything was provided and it was in a really handy location close to the city centre which we walked in about ten minutes. We felt safe and looked after the whole time and would definitely do it again. If you’re looking for a unique experience on your trip to Finland then this is it! 🇫🇮🙌🏻
This is a MUST do experience in Helsinki. From start to finnish (lol) it was fantastic!! Our guide Olly was a pleasure. So knowledgeable and fun. The float was so peaceful and relaxing one of the people in our group fell asleep! You are pretty snuggly bundled in so that you are airtight. It’s about hard to talk or smile but you adapt and it’s quite fun. Then we went on the hovercraft to our own private island for a bbq of salmon soup, rye bread, coffee and desserts. The hovercraft was smooth and just glided across the ice. Truly breathtaking views and the most memorable of experiences!
It was a very interesting experience and our guide was extremely knowledgeable and accommodating! Walking on normally dangerously thin ice in the Baltic sea is a delight with these suits!
The cold plunge experience is truly one of a kind, with the initial discomfort of putting on the suit quickly forgotten once you step onto the ice. Walking like a penguin across the frozen surface and floating in the refreshing water feels completely invigorating—trust me, the shallow water makes it easy to ease into at your own pace. It's an unforgettable adventure, and the benefits far outweigh the brief discomfort—waddle on and embrace the chill!
What a fantastic, memorable day we had with RedRib. This tour was so unique, interesting, fun and filled with warm hospitality - we were treated as friends - not tourists! Its hard to articulate the extraordinary sensation of travelling through this gorgeous island-dotted region in a small ice-breaking boat - then getting kitted out in the survival suits to walk, play and jump into the ice-filled water ..the floating sensation was other-worldly! The extra bonus was the tour/walk into Simsalo Island, and the most welcome and delicious salmon soup alfresco lunch on board the boat - Finnish perfection!. Make this tour a must-do from Helsinki - thanks again Red Rib
We had a fun afternoon doing this excursion! There was no ice because of how warm it was in Helsinki, but it was still a great time. Very knowledgeable hosts who kept it informative while still being exciting. You get warm wool socks and a warm wool sweater to put on but wear warm layers/socks to wear underneath! Have fun swimming around, floating, and jumping in!
What an excellent day. It is expensive but well worth the money. It’s a great experience made all the more enjoyable by Olli the instructor who is really interesting to listen to and passionate about his work. A big thank you too Red Rib.
The weather was beautiful for our float. The service was top notch from start to finish. We had a private driver pick us up at our hotel which made the logistics very easy. We met up with the rest of the group at the float spot. It would have been fun to have been able to be in a bigger opening of water, but the conditions didn't allow for it that day and we certainly appreciated that the Redrib crew was concerned first about our safety. The gear was neatly organized, and we quickly were ready in our suits. We didn't feel rushed and got to enjoy the float as long as we wanted. A taxi came to take us back to Helsinki and was able to accommodate different drop off locations. In summary, it was exactly as we expected and it was a great way to start off our visit to Finland.
We had a wonderful time - it is a bit pricey but where else can you have this experience. Karl? drove us to the floating hole and gave us lots of interesting information on Helsinki. The suits made sure we kept dry and warm while in the water and floating was really relaxing - I did have trouble getting into the water but they kindly gave me a push to get me in. Robert? and the rest of the team were very helpful and friendly - I'm glad we chose to do this.
Great fun Totally recommend it, for any tipe of group! The best was the opportunity of breaking the ice in a safe environment
We had an amazing time and was a unique experience. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable about the area, provided a nature walk, lunch over an open fire and tour in the hovercraft. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a different way to experience a beautiful area.
The fact that I could float on 0 degrees water which weirdly did not turn to ice plus I felt like a survivor and you can feel completely safe as the guide will help you if you need help and instruct you to enter the water
What an amazing time! My son and I did the survival suit experience and had a blast. Was the perfect event to try something different than the usual tourist areas. Leif was a joy to be around and taught us a lot. I would encourage everyone new to the nordic culture and being around the sea to try this.
Professional from the outset. Great communication to ensure the perfect experience for us. Location and briefing was perfect, ensuring safety and enjoyment! We totally lived this adventure and highly recommend it. Suits and attire were clean and hygienic and change room great! Leif also provided informative survival techniques and tips for our upcoming sauna and ice swim, thanks
Whist we were in Helsinki for Easter, we took the opportunity to undertake this challenge! The weather was good and wind was in our favor. Leif is an excellent instructor. As we are non-swimmers, he was assured us that this was no barrier to taking part in this experience. He was right! He provided all the gear we needed and gently guided us into the water. Within minutes, we were afloat and able to even relax! We had as much time as we needed in the water. It was a most uplifting experience. Equally fascinating were the insights and stories Leif told us about how the suits are used as part of lifesaving equipment (with very short times to deploy them in real emergencies). I could only imagine what that could be like after the leisurely time we had in comparison! Also, we were given lifesaving survival tips, which are invaluable. You can tell that Leif is a true professional with lots of expertise in this field. All in All, a fantastic experience and we would thoroughly recommend it to others. Thank you Leif!
Really enjoyed this unique experience. Leif was a great instructor and guide. We had plenty of time in the water and the survival suits did their job and kept us dry and warm enough. It was quite relaxing just floating among the ice!
This was a fantastic and unique experience. We felt very safe under Leif's guidance and he gave us lots of information about the survival suits, sea rescue, ice conditions and equipment. We had plenty of time in the water. Floating is very relaxing and slightly surreal. I'm so glad we did it - thanks Leif for a great experience and lots of great photos too!
My mum and I chose to do the activity whilst visiting Helsinki and we could not recommend it more! The experience was unforgettable and Oli was super kind and knowledgable throughout. Highly recommend the experience!
Perfect day! We had an archipelago tour with a hovercraft, delicious lunch made on an open fire on a beautiful island, and we finished with floating in the icy sea in survival suits. We ("the locals") enjoyed it very much and it was a unique experience - and even better for our foreign guests!
This experience was actually a part of my birthday surprise and I so loved it!! We had Lief as the instructor and he explained everything to us so well. He was super friendly and very patiently answered all our questions and helped us to adjust to this new and completely different activity we decided to try. I would definitely recommend doing this. You will be so surprised at how relaxing and surreal it is.
We had an awesome experience doing the arctic floating in Uunisaari, Helsinki. We celebrated a 30th birthday, and this was a great experience for the whole group. Definitively something everyone should try! It's at the same time very peaceful, yet very exciting. Would definitively do again! Everything was handled with superb professionalism, and we got very useful information about survival and hypothermia. Leif is a wonderful and friendly host!
Incredible experience! Huge thank you to Leif for being an incredible guide! We were in the suits with our normal clothes on underneath! Didn’t get wet at all! Would 100% recommend! Was actually very relaxing! Suitable for all ages!
Group of 4 girls booked this up whilst we were away for our friends hen do. We absolutely loved it! Leif was very professional, friendly and gave us such an insight with his knowledge. A definite must do if you’re ever in Helsinki!
Me and my boyfriend did the survival suit experience with Leif which was absolutely fantastic. Being out on the water in these suits was very unique and so very calming, my boyfriend even fell asleep for a moment! Was great to experience something so unique and so different. We even got photographs taken of us in these suits and Leif so kindly dropped us off into the center afterwards. Most definitely recommend if you're looking to do an activity different from the norm. Thanks Leif for a great morning and being such a brilliant guide.A truly unforgettable memory :)
We booked for the survival suit experience on a days notice and REDRIB were able to fit us in, Leif is a brilliant guide and we felt safe and secure at all times. I'd recommend this trip to all as it's a unique experience.
It was really an absolutely interesting experience and we didn't regret it at all. Our guide Maelys was super nice and was able to explain everything to us very well including survival tips. Can really recommend it to anyone 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
