The ferry ride was more than expected. The guide Katrina was very informative, she gave us insite to living in Tallinn. She gave us time to explore on our own, too.

Viator sent faulty instructions about the voucher/ticket process (see below). Very distressing to find nothing at the address given as the Ticket redemption point. I ended up walking to West Terminal where the ticket office found my booking using my passport number, and printed me a ticket. At the same time I also received notices from Viator that my ticket, not a voucher, was included. All very confusing. I will not use Viator again. The tour was good but lasted about only 2hours. I also think the pick-up time in Tallinn for the ferry back to Helsinki is a good 30 minutes too early. This was the message sent: “ How to get there Ticket redemption point Please present this voucher at the redemption point in advance of your tour/activity to exchange it for your entry ticket. Small group tour of Tallin old town. Very knowledgeable and friendly guide. The pace was good with ample free time for lunch and to explore and shop. An enjoyable day trip from Helsinki.
Talinn is lovely, and definitely worth the investment of a long day. But be advised that it involves a lot of walking over rough cobblestone and some steep stairs. Be sure to make return dinner reservations on your way over.
This trip is wonderful, but be prepared for physical challenges in touring the steep cobblestone alleys of Old Town Tallin and negotiating the crowded ferries. Not a trip for the faint of heart.
This is a long day but the guide made it worthwhile with her knowledge of the city of Tallin and Estonia in general. The small group of six made it easy to move around.
Well organised guided tour and ample free time to explore and find a good restaurant for lunch. Our guide Anastasia was excellent.
The person that communicated with me via TripAdvisor did a very poor job in letting me know when I had to be at the ferry terminal and where. I only received an email that indicated that I had to be at the ferry terminal for a start time of 9:00 am. When I showed up with my friend at 8:30 am, I was informed by the Eckero Line that I missed boarding and the ferry left early. When I called the contact number for TripAdvisor, a man who said his name was Dimitri lecture to me that I did not follow the detailed instructions sent via WhatsApp and in an August 14th email. He was very defensive and not informative or helpful, and actually very rude. Rather than helping me to attend the rest of the tour, he kept sending the same text to me over and over again telling me that I should have been at the ferry earlier than 8:30 am that morning. I looked to see if I received the email and WhatsApp communication but never did until after I contacted him that morning. Consequently, there was no way of me knowing that I should have showed up before 8:30 to catch the ferry as all I was informed of was a start time of 9:00 am. I purchased a second ferry ticket for myself and my friend on the MyStar ferry line to be able to go to Tallinn and catch up for the remainder of the tour that I paid for. Once there the Tour Guide was very nice and informative. She made sure that we received the correct instructions on where and when to catch the bus that took us to the ferry back to Helsinki. I was extremely disappointed at the lack of communication provided prior to the trip. I believe that I should be reimbursed for the 86.80 Euros that I had to spend for the ferry because of missing the first one in order to get to Tallin. I have done many TripAdvisor trips before and never encountered this lack of service and rude employee. Dimitri should not be allowed to do any customer service!!
Loved the ferry ride. It was very entertaining and our guide was excellent. I really enjoyed learning more about Estonia.
Accessing the ferry is very easy and well organized. The whole day fitted together perfectly but be aware that you will have 4 hours to amuse yourself once the walking tour finishes.
Lana was such a great your guide. She was patients, kind, and very professional, providing so much history and culture about Tallin and Estonia overall. Would definitely recommend this tour!
Guide, Sergei, was excellent. Met us at the exit from the ferry and transported by van to the old city. Wonderful overview, knowledgeable, fun, and left us with reviews of the many choices of restaurants. Pickup van for transport back to ferry right on time. Suggest getting to the ferry earlier than recommended because it is very crowded. A lot to do on the ferry...eat, shop, music, game rooms.
Good experience for a short solo trip to Tallin. The ferry ride was good as well.
Small groups are ideal. Pack for varying temperatures (at least in the summer). Be ready for uneven walking.
Guide was there to meet us on time. Van took us inside town and we began our walking tour. Tour was excellant. 10 people in our group. Van brought us back yo Ferry. Tallin in wonderful town to visit.
A complete and interesting visit, a lot of walking with wonderful views and places to go, with excellent information
When they say you will be touring in "an air conditioned coach", they mean is the ac will b turned on after u enter for the 10 minute ride to the old town and back....not that you will use it to tour. The entire 3 hour tour (yes, you pay over 150.00 USD for a 3 hour tour, in our case by a very young woman who had to read her notes. She then dumped us at a corner and said the van would be back to pick us up in 3 hours. We thought we might then get a little bus tour but it was only a ride back to the ferry in a very hot van. I nicknamed this tour "How to waste a day of your precious time in Finland."
The ferry is a very unique experience if you haven't been on a huge cruise liner before, but it gets boring after a while so bring something to keep you occupied for the entire duration (5h to and fro). Once we were in Tallinn, our guide Sergei was extremely knowledgeable, jovial and in general, made the 2 hour walking tour a very enjoyable and engaging experience. We had free time from 2:30 PM to 4:55 PM. If you are quick to have lunch and get some souvenirs, you will still have over an hour available which you will need to kill some way. Be prepared.
This tour was an excellent introduction to Tallinn, Estonia, and one of the highlights of my trip to Finland. The ferry ride from Helsinki was comfortable and efficient, making it remarkably easy to visit another country for the day. Once in Tallinn, our guide brought the city’s fascinating history to life as we explored its beautifully preserved UNESCO World Heritage-listed Old Town. Walking through the cobblestone streets felt like stepping back into the Middle Ages, surrounded by Gothic churches, medieval merchant houses, ancient city walls, and defensive towers. The guide shared interesting stories about Estonia’s history, the Hanseatic League, and how Tallinn has evolved into the vibrant capital it is today. The itinerary was well paced, with a great balance of guided sightseeing and free time to wander the charming streets, browse local shops, enjoy lunch, and take plenty of photos. Despite being a day trip, I never felt rushed and came away feeling that I had experienced the very best of Tallinn’s historic center. Transportation was seamless from start to finish, and everything was well organized. If you’re visiting Helsinki, I highly recommend taking this tour. It’s an effortless way to experience two Nordic-Baltic capitals in one trip and discover one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval cities. It was an unforgettable experience that left me wanting to return and spend even more time exploring Estonia.

If you like about history and medieval architecture, you may like this tour. Finlandia ferry is great, it is like an entertainment place with bar, shopping area, children's play area.
An excellent day trip from Helsinki to a special little city. Great ferry and well paced interesting walking tour of the old town with Anastasia.
Excellent tour, unfortunately weather was not good, it drizzled most of the time. Should include pickup and return.
Our tour guide gave wonderful personal experience of how the country has changed since gaining independence.
Such great communication about ferry and so no problems at all getting there from Helsinki. Our guide Renau (sp ?). Provided more than just information about Tallin and the sites and about the country, he gave us first hand stories of what it was like during era of Soviet oppression. The tour was alive and meaningful. There was a perfect balance if your and free time, great recommendations for meals and such and such attentiveness and caring for group. It is definitely worth adding a day to your time in Helsinki just to get to Tallinn for this tour. Tallinn itself is absolutely beautiful.
The tour was good and very interesting. There were times when we couldn’t hear the guide when he was speaking. Ear buds would have helped. We did not think it was good for the guide to leave us on our own for two hours after the tour was over.
Anastasia our guide was fantastic. Friendly and easy to understand. Complete expert on Tallinn. Interacted easily with everyone. The instructions to get on the ferry were confusing because the times did not match up but we were able to catch the ferry. Suggest upgrading seats on the ferry other wise you are cramped the whole 2 hour ride
There are other day trips in Finland, such as Porvoo, that I would recommend if you have limited time. For over 5 hours on the ferry and getting to and from the terminal, it was disappointing.
Fabulous tour of qaint Tallinn. Svetlana, my guide, was very informative and patient. I booked for small walking group. It was so small - only me - so I had a fantastic one on one experience. Logistics was good but perhaps information on redeeming the ferry ticket could be better explained or more details provided.
Tourist guide Irene very friendly. She also provided excellent explanations of the sites visited with much enthusiasm.
The ferry ride is at least 2 hours each way on a large ferry with restaurants, activities, etc. for entertainment. The city tour is fairly short (2 hours) with a lot of information provided.
It was a comfortable ferry ride The guide gave good directions for all stages of the tour. Long day but everyone found something they enjoyed, from teenager to grandparent. It was a lot of walking but not too difficult. Great experience, learning about Tallin.
Svetlana was an excellent tour guide for our tour of the old town and gave good recommendations for places to revisit, eat and shop
The tour of old town was very interesting and informative. A Beautiful old city. The boat ride was fairly unpleasant. There was no decent seating on the ship - just uncomfortable metal chairs around small tables and a few slightly padded seats along the walls. It was crowded and many people were drinking to excess. Couldn’t wait to get off!
A wonderful overview of old town in Talinn. This is a whole day activity so do not plan anything else that day. Listen to your guide's recommendations for where to eat you will not be disappointed.
Nice small tour, our guide Eugenia, was extremely knowledgeable about the area. Everything was on time
I greatly enjoyed the day trip from Helsinki to Tallinn. I appreciated the communication from the company, which kept me informed about how to obtain the tickets, how to reach the ferry terminal and meet the guide in Tallinn. It was all very well organized. Our guide Anastasia was wonderful, very friendly and excited about showing us her city. She was very knowledgeable and kept us interested. All in all, a great day.
Imagine my feeling when I went to go on my excursion and the ticket was not there! The operator later refunded my money but the day was wasted along with the cost if getting to the boat. Avoid this tour!
Very informative and covered a lot of the town. Had time for lunch and shopping at end of tour on our own.
Julia was an amazing tour guide. She did a great job providing history, interesting facts and keeping the group engaged and entertained! 5 out of 5!
Great tour by Julia. Very informative, well paced and covered many interesting sights and cultural points.
Our guide in Tallin was wonderful. It was a nice small group. We enjoyed the small town and its history.
It was a lovely experience. Our guide picked us from the Arrival terminal in Tallinn and explained many interesting facets about Estonia and its history. What started as a little bit of history lesson became very interesting when we saw the actual sites. Tallinn is just so gorgeous as a city. History preserved to the next level is how we felt it. The weather being sunny was an added advantage. I do feel that on more than 3 different occasions, we were told to buy local products. Either it was a walk through the shops or bathroom breaks in certain restaurants. That was not needed. But other than that, a very nice day spend in Tallinn.
It’s a long day, but well worth it. Our guide was excellent. She was easy to find at the Tallin ferry port. She took us to the highlights of Tallin. Her explanations were very good. We had about 3 hours of free time to have and explore on our own. Wonderful day.
Julia Konieva it was a fun time
Julia koneiva was an excellent guide. Will highly recommend her. Very kind , sweet and highly knowledgeable..
Julia koneiva, she was bedt, explained us excellent. Top rated
This trip was a full day. Guide met us at the ferry terminal with a car on the tallinn side of the harbor and we did a walking tour of the upper and lower part of the historic old town. Saw the lovely russian church and several nice photo stops. Some lite shopping along the way. Very informative and felt we saw what we needed to see in a short amount of time. We have free time later in the day for lunch and more touring or shopping on our own. If you have limited time in Tallinn, this is a good way to see a good bit of it. Driver met us and took us back to port afterward. Was a small group (5 of us total). would recommend this for a great day trip.
The ferry trip is enjoyable and fun. Tour guide knowledge and organized, transportation punctual. Great tour which covers the many aspects of Tillannand Estonia.
The experience is good , the cruise and the place is very good . It is worth visiting the place . Always recommended
