Excellent sightseeing and information. Food was authentic and delicious. Guide, Mat was personable and full of knowledge. His dashing good looks and pleasant personality didn't hurt either. Would def recommend and loved the small group size.

I am not disappointed there was no tasting in Chinatown, just surprised since it was the only info listed on the itinerary. Matt was upbeat and engaging anyway. We ate local treats . There were really limited vegan options but Matt did let us know ahead of time.

We visited parts of the island that we had never seen before, and definitely ate at some places that a tourist would never find. Matt was a fantastic guide.

First, if you don't like Hawaiian food, you're not going to like the tour. Second, it wasn't 3 hours, it was 2 hours. So you're paying $100 / hour. Most of that seems to be to pay for his celebrity. He made sure to tell us of his multiple TV appearances, TV shows, recent trips and travels, and name drop and say that he's a friend of over a dozen chefs on the island. I believe the technical term is narcissist. Third, he made sure to criticize the vast majority of the places we had already eaten at. He noted the luau we attended was the "worst" despite us having a very good time. My wife's choice of donut shop was sharply criticized. Fourth, the first stop was to get free samples at the local grocery store. To be fair, he added to that with a $3 Spam Musubi from the same grocery store. Fifth, his air freshener from the rear view mirror was of himself. Did I mention narcissist. Sixth, it will be clear by the end most of the cost you paid wasn't for the food but to associate with his "fame" On the positive side, he was educational about the history of Hawaiian food and how it differed from Japanese and other influences. Before I'd recommend his tour I'd recommend one of the restaurants he sharply criticized us for eating at like Hoku's.

I was really excited for this excursion. It’s sounds like a wonderful time. Though almost 2 weeks after I booked this, it was cancelled. I received some generic email saying the tour is not available, but the crazy part it was. The tour I signed up still had spots available. I tried to book a second time for the same tour and I was kicked out from booking, so I gave up. I personally feel that because I was a single person, it’s not in the company’s favor. They can certainly make more money from people in pairs or groups than 1 single person. So be cautious if you are a solo traveler, they won’t care about you. If this is their policy, they should really put it in writing. It would of saved me so much time from writing this negative review.

Lanai was a wonderful tour guide, very knowledgeable about Hawaiian history and the food scene in the area. He was a pleasure to spend time with, would highly recommend if you want a authentic Hawaiian food experience.

This was one of the most enjoyable adventures we have ever been on! Lanai was fantastic, taught us so much about the history and culture of Hawaii. Took us to places we never would have discovered on our own. I would 100% recommend this tour to anyone that enjoys learning through food.

We had a wonderful time and the food was fantastic. At first, we were disappointed that the original host of the tour was not available. But Travis did a great job. He took us to a ton of places and told us lots of great stories about the history, food and culture of Hawaii. We feasted on a range of dishes and they were all delicious!

My cousin and I had a wonderful tour with Lanai! It was just the three of us, and he made it so personable and fun. He gave a great history and overview of the island, its people, and its foods! The food on the tour was yummy and filling, and we will probably circle back to some of the stops!! We loved that he focused on local spots. Supporting local businesses is so important! He gave us honest opinions on some of the places we were thinking of visiting, and we appreciated that! He was so knowledgeable of the food scene, and its people, so his recommendations were welcomed! At the end, he sent us a list of some of his fav places, and we can’t wait to try a few! This tour was well worth the money, and we can’t wait to join one of his tours in Japan!

Amazing! He covers the local commerce activity and demonstrates why we need to support local. The food was all delicious.

Lanai has tons of food and entertainment experience, and it shows. He gave us a ton of recommendations and provided us with a history of food on the island as well as some general history. During our tour he took us to five spots, only one of five we had heard of before. Each stop included some great food and a bit of history about the spot. We learned a lot of interesting trivia, and while it would have been nice to visit one or two more places (we had a full lunch at one of them), we definitely felt that we got an insider’s perspective.

In a word, Wow!! We typically take food tours when we visit a new city. Our trip with Lanai was such a fantastic opportunity to learn some island history, Hawaiian culture, and, most importantly, to grub some AMAZING local food. Highly recommend this experience!!

Great tour! Food was awesome and Lanai shared a ton of history, facts and stories about Hawaiian cuisine. Lanai also gave us tons of recommendations and made sure we were well taken care of not only on the tour but after it as well.

This is a must in Honolulu! The opportunity to try local foods was a very unique experience. Lanai was an amazing guide and made us feel very special. He educated us on all of the LOCAL spots in the area. Would recommend as a first activity when visiting Hawaii.

Lanai was an awesome host and very knowledgeable. He was very professional and laid back. Answered all questions and had a funny sense of humor. The food was excellent and gave your taste of Hawaiian food, not Hawaiian style food. Would recommend to anyone that wants an awesome experience.

What a fantastic experience. An excellent tour with a charismatic individual that educated us and took us to enjoy “real Hawaiian food”. When completed our stomachs where full with some awesome local cuisine. The best part was the education regarding Hawaiian food and its roots. Very personal tour with individual attention. Everyone should definitely go on the AWESOME Aloha Plate Food Tour. Lanai Tabura is the nicest, so knowledgeable, and shared history of Hawaii and many Local Style foods that my teen nephew and I would never have tried. We loved them. I definitely suggest going towards the beginning of your stay as you will want to go back and eat again. He also shares amazing recommendations of places to eat during your vacation.

What an amazing experience! Lanai knows his stuff for sure. We had the best time trying all the local cuisine and felt like true insiders at all the best local spots. Lanai had such great insight into the local cuisine, including ingredients, history and cultural influences. It doesn’t hurt that he has great personality and is a lot of fun to hang around with! It was a wonderful tour with Lanai. He shared history of the area and of Hawaiian food. We very much enjoyed the food at each stop and recommendations for additional restaurants. Linai was an amazing wealth of knowledge and so nice. We made several stops to try local foods. The foul included my parents and 13 year old twins and we all loved it. Highly recommended!

Hands down the very best thing we did in Hawaii. Don’t fall for the imposters! This is the ONE you want. We made sure to tell everyone we saw after we got back. An absolutely delicious education and a great way to spend the day! Highly, highly recommend

We’ve gone on a lot of food tours while traveling and this was the best! Lanai knows his stuff! Very informative and interesting and took us to places we would’ve have otherwise seen. Book it!

This tour was a unique experience. Lanai designs the tour to highlight family owned businesses where the locals like to shop or eat. The food was focused on flavors and tastes of more traditional Hawaiian food. The Poke at the grocery store was an array of Asian Pacific flavors. He also picked up musubi. I anticipated there would be more food than I could eat so I actually enjoyed it for breakfast the next day. We had steamed bbq beef bun and taro chips. We finished with a family style meal of traditional Hawaiian foods; Hawaiian purple sweet potato, pork, leaf wrapped beef and fish, turkey butt and a few other items. We finished with Ubae an intensely purple mousse like dessert in a cookie shell. We really enjoyed the experience. I was worried about my five year old going hungry, but she ended up liking the Maui onion potato chips at the taro chip place and later both the turkey butt and Ubae. This was a great cultural experience. We learned from Lanai about Hawaii and the districts we visited. He is very personable. He gave us restaurant recommendations which lead to another great experience at a place called Cinnamons. This tour is probably better suited to couples or families with older children or more open palates, but it was truly unique.

Really enjoyed the learning of Hawaii history and real Hawaiian food. The chef was very pleasant and knowledgeable. It was great experience!

Lanai gave us a personal tour to local Hawaiian and Hawaiian-style restaurants that we would never find on our own. It was an awesome experience, not only for the great food but for his historical insights on the origins of the different dishes. It was the high point of our trip. As a bonus he gave us a list of numerous other local eateries that we an explore in future Oahu trips.

We where disappointed with this tour visiting a food store and a couple of cafes for 3 hours and being charged for that amount of time was not good value

If you’re ever going to be in Honolulu , this tour is a must ! Having Lanai as a host is like talking to a dear old friend. Not only great food selection but you learn a piece of local Hawaii history as well

My wife and I took this tour with Lanai last week. It was hands down the best of the 4 different tours we took while spending 10 days in Hawaii. Lanai was a super guide providing us with insight into authentic Hawaiian cuisine, the culture of the islands and the rich history of the region. His passion and energy when it comes to food was evident throughout the tour. He introduced us to things we never would have tried or known about. In addition, he provided many recommendations regarding restaurants where the local Hawaiians go to eat. Our only regret was that we waited until our last day in Hawaii to go on this tour. We should have taken it our first day so we knew what and where to eat. This is one tour we will definitely do again!

I try to take a food tour whenever I vacation to find some local gems. This was by far the best food tour I have taken! Lanai was amazing! He was so personable and taught my daughter-in-law and I about the Hawaiian culture as well as about authentic Hawaiian food. I tried many foods I’ve never had before. Everything was delicious! He keeps his group very small to give you a great personal experience.

My family and I went on the Aloha Plate Food tour while we were staying in Oahu. We were picked up promptly at our hotel by Sean and were treated to three plus hours of sampling the best original Hawaiian food the island has to offer. I would highly recommend the Aloha Plate Food Tour. Good food, good times!

We had the best experience of our trip with Lanai. We had the best poke I’ve ever had! Lanai takes you to taste local cuisine in different spots then you sit down for a full lunch with him. You get history of the island and it’s produced as well as history. If you pay for on day trip this is an experience you will not regret! We ate amazing food and made a fantastic new friend!

Did the Aloha Plate food tour and loved it! Lanai took us to some great places, and we had some really unique food experiences that our Hawaiian friends were excited that we'd done. Very authentic feeling local eating, and we really enjoyed learning so much more about the Hawaiian culture, history and the different influences on the food. Lanai also had some great recommendations for restaurants for our remaining nights on Oahu.

Lanai took 4 if us to tiny local places he has known his entire life. We also visited a local supermarket. Learned lots about the culture of Hawaiian food.

We just finished this tour and literally had the best day ever. I took the advice from others and booked this on our first day and that advice is so correct as we will be heading back to try lots of the places we taste tested. We learned so many interesting facts and history about Hawaii and was able to try so many different items. We tried lots of different foods to name just a few poke, Hawaiian honey pineapples, delicious Manapua, Lillikoi iced tea, taro chips, rice, stew, poi, lomi lomi salmon and to top everything we stopped at the bakery to have a coco puff which just so you know is the yummiest cream puff with chocolate dobosh filing with chantilly cream .... talk about delicious. Lanai was knowledgeable, fun, and just a really comfortable person. You could tell every place we visited he knew the people and they truly liked him. It was a small group which made it very fun and comfortable. This is a must on your trip. Thank you Lanai for a wonderful day!

This is a fantastic tour! We did the food tour with Lanai as our guide and it was so much fun. He took us off the tourist path to some great authentic places that we never would have tried on our own. The food was amazing! We caught a cab and went back for seconds the next day! I would recommend doing this tour early in your visit so that you can go to all the places Lanai recommends. This tour is a must!! Mahalo Lanai! We hope to visit you again!

We had an amazing time checking out local food spots that we'd never think to try out otherwise. It was definitely the least touristy part of our trip. Lanai is super friendly and has tons of great recommendations. He's also really knowledgeable about the history of Hawaiin cuisine and culture. Can't recommend it enough. Pro tip: take the tour as early as you can in your trip so you can eat at the other places he recommends for the rest of your trip
