Booked a private surf lesson for my husband. He’s never surfed before, is 58 years old, and he absolutely loved it! Everyone at this company was super friendly, the instructor was fantastic, and he wants to surf again! The company also rents surfboards, which is great! Definitely recommend!

Eddie was a great teacher. He had our 10 year old granddaughter surfing within the first 15 minutes which is a real accomplishment, given the fact that we live in Texas nowhere near the water. Waves Hawaii Surf School exceeded our expectations.

Friendly patient and dedicated in getting you surfing! Both my teenage kids were surfing on their own in a few minutes of lessons.

This was everything we'd hoped it would be. Very conscientious and fun staff. We were all first timers and had a blast Book it.

Awesome time, group of 4 young adults. It was super easy and fun for beginners. Really great instructor! Everyone was really nice.

Sophie and Jessica were fabulous. They were friendly and encouraging and made learning to surf easy. My 11 year old had a permanent smile on his face. They taught us how to get up on land and then took us out in the water. They maneuvered the boards into place for us and told us when to paddle and to get up so we could focus on technique rather than timing at first. As we improved they let us figure out the timing a bit more independently while still helping my 11 year old to paddle back out rather than exhausting himself with paddling. It was a great way to spend a morning.

This was such a fun way to spend a morning! Both my daughters (16 and 9) were up on the board and surfing on their first try. Sasha was a great instructor and made sure they had a blast. Parking was super easy and convenient; the photographer got great photos and was also a helpful presence in the water if my younger one needed a push back out into the waves. Easy shore location for others to watch, video, etc. Would definitely do this again on a future trip! The only change I would make would be to start as early as possible. We booked a 930 lesson, which is the busiest time in the water. After we booked they offered us 730, saying the waves and crowds would be better, but we declined it. That was our mistake, but even so the girls loved it!

We had a great time learning to surf. The whole family all did amazing. The instructor was great with our 9 year old. Would highly recommend this school.

Excellent instructors! Attended a group session. Taught us how to lay ourselves on the board, the steps to stand up, and good surf stance before taking us into the water. They’ll help with timing the wave and give you a push to get you started off. Remember to keep your eyes up, and you’ll be surfing on your board in no time! Board, shoes, and rash guard provided. Thank you guys for such a great day on the water! 🤙

Loved it. This was my third time surfing and loved the experience. Instructor ( I think his name is Sam) was amazing. He was calm and patient with me and let me learn it at my pace. I thoroughly enjoyed the Surfing experience and recommend Waves for anyone looking for Surfing lessons. The entire staff is wonderful.

My two boys had an amazing time. So much fun and the teacher, Lucas, was great with the kids. He made learning surfing easy and fun. We would highly recommend using this company to book a surfing lesson.

My husband and son did the surf lesson and loved it. The instructor was awesome. He was patient and encouraging. They were both successful and able to surf on their own.

Surf lessons cancelled an hour before hand. We had been looking forward to this part of our trip for a year. Booked the surf lessons 9 months ago. Woke up this morning excited to surf but got the cancellation email as we were about to head out the door. Vacation is almost over and we are very sad

We had a blast learning to surf! Eddy was a great instructor: patient, fun, and informative as we surfed and waited for the waves. Perfect activity for my daughters that are 12 & 14 and for us parents too. Definitely recommend!

The low ratio to students to teachers was amazing. AND they were all fun to be around. All Around GREAT

Highly recommend this! Easy to find. Provided shoes, shirt, & boards. Instructor did lesson on land then got us in water quickly. Also helped with safe way to dismount given the rocks. Instructor got us all up & surfing quickly. Also had Elijah taking pics the whole time for purchase. Strongly encourage them!!

Our kids surfed with San and Lucas. Our kids are 8 and 10, they had a blast and wanted to go again the next day. They had lots of rides on the waves, saw a turtle, and just had a blast. We highly recommend this group for kids. Sean took our pictures and did a great job.

Husband, tween and teenager loved it! The staff was friendly, the photographer took great photos while cheering them on and San (the instructor) was just phenomenal. Highly recommend this and would do it again!

A great way to get comfortable on a board! Great instructor our three kids really enjoyed. By the end of the lesson, our three kids (11, 14, and 18) were catching waves on their own!

The team at Waves Hawaii was extremely thoughtful and respectful of our son with mild autism, offering extra help if we wanted it. Our two kids (11 and 8) had a fantastic time, as did their adult! Incredible, close up pictures were provided too, which was totally unexpected and an awesome bonus. We'd love to come again.

wonderful location being 50 yards from great snorkeling with turtles and lots of fish while being 150 yards from a sandy beach and body surfing. Staff are very experienced and helpful. Barbeques in great shape to cook Ahi. Very friendly family type visitors.

We were very pleased with this business and the instructor Very accommodating and knowledgeable Nothing flashy, with older equipment, but everything was adequate and they seemed to have our interests (and safety in mind) They were also less expensive than the other outfits I would recommend them

Our kids (ages 12 and 14) had a fantastic surfing lesson with Carlos. This was their first time surfing and they found Carlos to be a very positive instructor who gave good suggestions for tweaks on technique. The kids had a blast. I'd highly recommend this experience.

Great time and they were super flexible with weather and some bad conditions to help us reschedule and get a great day on the water. Lucas and San were great with the kids as well. Overall a fantastic day in the water!

I took my cousins to learn how to surf. I already had some background from wakeboarding. San was our instructor and was very patient and insightful. With his guidance, we were able to get up very easily. He also made sure we were properly set up on the boards and continuously advised and gave tips on how to improve. Highly recommend.

Me and my husband found this school by chance while walking along the beach on a Saturday morning...and we can't be happier about It!! We have met Kyle and Eddie and we will never forget them, you can really feel the passion behind the "job", they helped us from the beginning to the end, always cheering us up with big smiles and super good positive energy.. It was the first surf esperience for me and they provided surf outfit and shoes, i always felt secure and under their watch i really enjoyed the waves and the surf A big hug from the Italians honeymooners Giulia and Fabrizio

My teens loved the lesson. Best activity so far on our trip. San gave a great lesson and all three got up on boards quickly. They stayed out in water for two hours while my husband and I watched from the rock wall. There is a photographer that goes out with them to get close up pictures and you have option to buy afterward. Something to know beforehand: The lesson takes place at Kamala Beach and the surf “school” is actually a mobile vehicle that parks on the north side of the parking lot! Hwr, that seems standard. There were several other companies there with exact same set-up.

Both my teens had a wonderful experience at their lesson. They were a little hesitant because they had never been on a surf board before but once their instructor walked them through and they loved it.

Good location for us as beginners. We enjoyed the instructors. They were very helpful and patient. Definitely need the booties they provide due to rocks on bottom.

We can’t say enough good things about these guys. While we are returning customers, and had somewhat of an idea of what to expect, they make everything from the the check in, to wrap up (we’ve order pictures every time and have even used one of their pictures of our daughter as a Christmas card one year) simple and easy. Eddie is amazing, gives useful instruction and makes it so that the most novice people are surfing by the end of the session. Out 16 year old daughter had no problem getting up, but my husband and I are in our 50s and we’re able to surf with their instruction. Note: we book this session the first day of our vacation every time we come to HI, just to get a refresh on the basics. Our daughter then ends up using their instruction for the rest of our HI vacation. This was the second time we got to work with Eddie, as he has been with Waves for 14 years. He is amazing!!! If you want to take surf lessons while staying on Maui, I highly recommend hiring these guys.

Our instructors were great! We had varying skill levels, and the instructors worked one-on-one with each of us, based on our skill level. I highly recommend Waves Surf School. You will have a wonderful time!

Absolutely amazing! And fun! I was so scared no one would be able to even get up. We all got up on our first try! Carlos is an amazing instructor and so patient and good with all of us!!! Would highly recommend ! My girls said it was the highlight of their whole trip!!!

Loved learning the fundamentals of surfing and seeing my son take naturally to it! Wonderful experience. We are hooked!!!

Lesson was awesome. My 17 y/o so. And I did the semi private lesson. Instructor was fantastic. Provided great direction and my son is now completely heeled on surfing. He had him doing some tricks (switch stance) by the end HIGHLY recommend visiting these guys

We purchased a semi-Private surf lesson for my 10-year old daughter and my husband. She was standing up and rode about 15 waves. They had such a great time with San (the instructor) that my daughter went back later in the week for a private.

We had the pleasure of having Epes Sargent as our instructor and it was such a great experience! He was very patient and encouraging. He also did not waste much time on land, and provided us with very direct and simple instructions that had us standing and surfing in no time. He was also very helpful for my 10yr old daughter, Bella, constantly giving her positive feedback that was very motivating. She did the best out of all of us! They provided us with the proper equipment; water shoes and wet suits. The location was perfect, the water was waist deep and had plenty of waves to share. The photographer was friendly and caught perfect photos and videos. I would 100% recommend this surf school! It was so memorable!

Great first time surfing experience for the family. Liked it so much that we did it again later in the week. Carlos is a great instructor. He deserves a raise.

My 19-year old son had his first surf (and it was private, not group) lesson with Ashley last week. Tremendous experience. 3 tries and he was up and surfing. Learning how to ride the wave longer, which wave to ride in the first place, how to avoid banging into other surfers. He had a ball. Ashley was easy to be with and learn from. She got him outfitted with the appropriate gear from board to shoes to rash guard. The 2 hour lesson flew. We (the rest of our family) enjoyed watching from the rocks on shore. John took a bunch of photos which we were happy to purchase for $50. Great memories, big smiles. Highly recommend this outfit for a great lesson.

My cheeks still hurt from smiling for two straight hours! As others mentioned we were up and surfing in no time. Carlos, our instructor was awesome, he knew just how to coach us so we had confidence and success. We did a semi-private lesson for three adults, two beginners and one with some experience. Easy to book, very professional, and just great people overall. Jon's pictures were incredible, we've already shared with family and friends. Would highly recommend. Even if you think you can't surf, you will with Waves Hawaii Surf School!

Carlos was an amazing surf instructor, very friendly and relaxed. He got my son and I up on the board and surfing within just a few minutes! Partnered with a photographer who captured the time beautifully - even recommended some local eateries - really could not have been better!

We are first time surfers/honeymooners that took lessons with Carlos through Waves Hawaii Surf School. He has us up on the first wave! If you’re considering it, book it! It was an unforgettable experience. Also, the pictures Sam took were incredible!

This was such a great experience! The instructors are the best and really put me at ease. I was scared to try surfing but they made it fun and I really learned to surf. Well, at least how to stand on my board and stay on it all the way to the shore:). I wouldn't call myself an expert after one lesson, but they gave great instruction and feedback after each run so I could improve. They take their job seriously and really want you to enjoy your time. This was worth every penny and the photographers captured images that would be impossible to get if they weren't in the water with us. I recommend buying them. Such great memories!

Straight forward lesson. Our guide Funchie was amazing, great personality and worked with everyone well to get them up on our boards. Very fun experience. Perfect for first timers!
