Great for entry level kayakers. Eric, our guide was very experienced and knowledgeable about the region and history.

Itinerary
Experience Hilo from a new perspective as we journey up the relaxing river, through tree branches, and cruise underneath the graceful dragon arches of the Japanese style bridges. Loa meaning “long water” includes an easy entry from a boat ramp that travels up Wailoa River and into Hilo Bay. There are unique birds and fish sightings throughout your excursion. Take a break and enjoy the King Kamehameha Statue and learn more about the History of the Big Island and learn about the Tsunamis that have cleared the area and created an arboretum of trees that are recognized by the Tree Association as “The Largest of Tree Species outside of Africa.” This is a great kayak or paddle board adventure for beginners.

Although we enjoyed the experience and our guide was very pleasant, there were a couple of things that could be improved: 1) the seats (back support) on the kayaks need to be upgraded. They were too low , did not give good back support and consequently were very uncomfortable. 2) our guide, although pleasant, didn’t provide much historical information.
Great experience, very chilled atmosphere on the river kayaking just what we needed. The tour guide was great, kind and welcoming. He shared his knowledge about the culture and history with us. Greatly appreciated. Mahalo
The business and our guide,Adam, were fine. Overall, the experience was very disappointing and barely meets the descriptions of a river adventure. Most of the river is not allowed for commercial tours. We had a small area of river that was near the boat launch and nothing worth seeing. We spent most of the time kayaking on “ocean” protected by a break wall. Relatively calm but nothing really worth exploring or seeing. This experience was an opportunity to be in a kayak for 90 minutes but definitely not worth the $100 per person. In my experience a river kayak adventure is miles long and includes scenic highlights…weaving and winding with the natural flow of water as it cuts through the land. This experience did not warrant a guide. We could have just as easily been in kayaks and told to return in 2 hours.
We really enjoyed all the information Adam shared with us about Hawaiian culture and history. Since we were a small group he modified the pace and we were able to cove all the allowable territory of the kayak river and also get near the harbor. Adam was prepared with providing snacks and also weather gear since we experienced rain. We had a great time! An idea I have is whether the route can be lengthened somehow. I know it would take some challenging communication with the apartment complex past the county park which will not allow commercial venues in their area. I would recommend this for people who are not quite so adventurous about scuba diving or other more challenging tours. Thanks! We enjoyed the experience.
The staff that checked us in were polite and professional. The facility and equipment immaculate. Adam our guide was knowledgeable and fun. It was a great way to spend a few hours.
Our tour guide Morgan was fantastic. He made sure we were having fun, had lots of snacks, had a real adventure and enjoyed the Hawaiian culture and beauty. The kayak tour was easy and relaxing and lot of fun with cool dips into the water.
Super friendly staff. Adam was a great guide for us three novice paddlers. We laughed a lot! I’d recommend this trip for anyone looking for a fun and easy kayak activity. Thanks again, Adam!
I booked a solo tour for myself because my wife isn't a big water person. When we got to Ocean Adventures, they told us I was the only one on the tour because other parties had cancelled. Guides Morgan and Sarah convinced my wife to go on Morgan's kayak. She and I both had a great time thanks to the fun spirit and knowledge of Morgan and Sarah. Thanks, guys, for a wonderful experience!
What a fun morning…relaxing jaunt through Carob trees and under a couple of bridges…💜🌺 Saw birds and crabs and banyan trees. Delightful! Morgan, you’re a bright, joyful guide, thoughtful and thorough! Thank you so very much! Thanks for photobombing our family pic! Bwahahah 🥰
I went with my son on this kayak tour and we had Morgan as our tour guide. I was a little skeptical at first when my son booked it as I don't know how to swim and haven't kayaked much, but I was blown away by our tour guide. It can be beyond confusing trying to steer a kayak as you need to paddle left to go right and right to go left, but thankfully I had Morgan to help. He was so patient with me in the beginning when I was almost spinning around in circles, and after his explanation things started to make a lot more sense. So much so that later on in the tour as my song and him were cruising in the water that I sped past them! He was super knowledgeable of the history of the island, was able to answer all my questions about the plant life during the tour, and even recommended the Liliuokalani Gardens which my son and I checked out after the tour! This was my first time in Hawaii and I already want to come back because of how great an experience we had on this tour. Highly recommend it for a nice chill few hours on the water
I had booked this kayak tour for my mom and myself since her birthday was coming up and this was one of best tours we've ever been on! We had Morgan as our guide, and since there were only two of us that day we had a private tour! We've been kayaking before, but this was my mom's first time paddling herself and she was a little nervous at first until we met Morgan! He was so personable, so encouraging, and patient telling her exactly what to do that by the end that you wouldn't be able to tell that it was her first time in the kayak by herself. Not only that, but he was super knowledgeable about the history of the island, native plant/wildlife, and even spots to check out as we were leaving Hilo to head back to the condo we were staying at! To say that we were pleased with the tour would be an understatement. If you're not sure if you should try it, consider this a sign that you should because I promise you won't be disappointed!
The adventure changed from a kayak trip up the river to one out in the bay. Weather was perfect and water was great for kayaking. Saw large turtles and a sting ray. Kelsie was our guide and worked us to see and experience things that we were interested in.
My boyfriend and I loved our kayak tour. We are first kayakers. It was not the River tour because the water level was too low. We kayaked in Reed’s Bay and it was so much fun. It was ocean open water and it was so beautiful. A sea turtle was swimming in the water by us! Our guides were Jenna and Leah. Both were a lot of fun and knowledgeable about the area. It was such a great experience. They went out of their way to make it an enjoyable day for us.
The water level was low, so there wasn't much to do. The distance we traveled wasn't very far, nor difficult. Our guide was great. Very talkative, friendly, helpful and fun. Just wish we knew that this wasn't a very physically challenging activity.
Tour was great. Danielle the tour guide was awesome. Enjoyed the experience. Very Peaceful and Scenic
This was a fun little tour! My husband and I had never gone kayaking before, and we had no issues with it. We each got individual kayaks so we could explore independently, which was nice. It was a little shorter than we expected (only around an hour on the water and we really took our time paddling around) and we were hoping for a little more history and information as we kayaked along, but we still had a good time. We were the only ones on this tour, so it was a nice personalized experience. I think if we came back, we would just rent a kayak instead of doing a guided tour, but it was helpful to have someone there for our first time.
