What a great way to finish our Oahu, Hawaii holiday. It was a chance to learn more about old Hawaiian history, culture & traditions. Lopaka our guide & leader was fantastic. He speaks with knowledge & authority, with a great manner.
I would recommend this experience to anyone who is a skeptic, who is curious about Hawaiian culture, or who just loves a good ghost story.
At the end of the tour, the guide suggested somebody walk me home. I thought that odd and I told him I was ok and didn’t need to be walked home. There was only one other couple on the tour and they did not seem to want to have anything to do with walking me home. Then I proceeded to walk by a variety of homeless camps. And I realized it really was not a great place to be left in the dark at the end of the tour. I also found him to be very unpleasant directly towards me. I don’t know if he was having a bad day, if it was part of the spooky shtick, or if I somehow rubbed him the wrong way. I was there on time and I was excited for the experience, but ultimately it was not a great one. He oddly was continually interacting with the couple over chatting with me and he basically kept turning his back on me for most of the tour as he engaged with that couple - who were nice. It was a really weird experience that I would not recommend for a solo female traveler. The couple seemed to have a nice time so it may have just been a one off experience.
We loved the stories, we would have liked more of a walk and seeing things in person, rather than pictures on the ipad. Otherwise it was spooky and fun.
A MUST do if you can!!!!!!!!!!!
Lopaka was an excellent guide. Very knowledgeable and friendly. The history he provided was phenomenal and interesting.
We enjoyed the tour and stories with Lopaka. Lots of interesting history with a bit of humor mixed in. My aunt and her family recommended the tour after taking it multiple times previously.
It is outdoors in the evening, do not forget to use bug repellent. It was fun and informative. Learned about the history of ancient times and haunted hotels in Waikiki. Was fun, recommend.
Lopaka Kapanui Is very well versed in the local history. He’s got a little spark of dramatics and lots of sincerity. We enjoyed our entire adventure with him! HIGHLY recommend!
Lots of information. Personalized conversation. Great history and compelling story telling. Passionate presentation with fact based history.
Super great ghost tour! Lopaka was an amazing guide and you could really tell he had a connection to the stories and pieces of culture he shared with us. Certainly spooky but very also informative and interesting! It was very laid back and a nice change from all the action packed adventures that are offered on the island. Highly recommend!
What other travelers should know about this experience is that it was spooky and educational and fun at the sane time. Just what we wanted.
An absolutely wonderfully spooky experience both nights! “Lopaka Kapanui is Hawai’i.” I heard that multiple times from different travel agents and guides while I was touring Oahu. With well over a quarter of a century of experience in the paranormal and multiple publications easily available at the state library,, the culmination of my understanding came to a fullness on the night, we did the Waikiki night marchers tour. Astute and effective in delivery was capped off at the end with the question: “… Who has a dog? Large dog; full curl tail, some kind of a collie breed mix. It’s been circling us tonight.” Earlier that evening, at the beginning of the tour, we were taken to a Grove of trees and asked to invoke protection and support from our loved ones who had passed on. My mother passed away October 22, 2024. Five months later, February 27, 2025 my father passed away. After I got back to the hotel room, I decided to send our guide a photograph. I had scanned for my mother of a dog. I grew up with. When Kapanui saw the Image his response was: “That’s the one.” Mysteries of Hawai’i is the only ‘ghost tour’ worth attending. Be prepared for an unforgettable experience that just might haunt you long after you return to the mainland… or wherever you lay your head. Pleasant Dreams.
The weather was perfect for a light evening stroll and some light, spooky story telling. Would be a lot of fun for a big group
The Night Marchers ghost tour was both spooky and fascinating. Our guide blended Hawaiian history with chilling legends, creating an unforgettable and respectful experience. Perfect mix of eerie atmosphere and cultural storytelling—highly recommend!
It was a great spooky experience. Lopaka shared lots of information about the night marchers. Definitely a fun time!
Such a great night under the full moon. Lopaka is an awesome guide who is extremely knowledgeable about what haunts Waikīkī.
If you are a skeptic, this could change your mind. If anything it is a lively history lesson and makes one more culturally aware and hopefully respectful to the true original islanders and their families
We met by this beautiful pond. And he gave us all this insight in history of Hawaii. Weirdly I was the only out of town. Everyone else was locals. Which was interesting, that meant even the locals wanted to know their darker history. Then we walked around and he pointed out various parts of the area and the events that went along in that area. We did some fun exercises and rituals as well. I thoroughly enjoyed this event.
Very intersting. I like the stories and we learned many things about Hawaiian history. The story teller definitely knows how to keep you listen his every word
Very interesting and entertaining way to learn about Hawaiian spirituality and culture. I highly recommend this to people interested in the paranormal.
A native Hawaiian who obviously knows the history and the lore of his people. He weaves tales of the night marchers that truly fascinating. Even if you believe or not, this is something worth checking out.
Do not hesitate to book this experience. It was interesting and informative. We learned a lot about the culture and history.
Super interesting and engaging. I took two kiddos with me (10 yo and 16 yo), probably shouldn’t have taken them. TW for a lot of SI, but still interesting for adults. Learned a lot about the culture and history, and it expanded on the Night Marchers that was introduced to me in the movie “Finding Ohana”
Great stories and told by a fantastic story teller. He was very knowledgeable and knew how to narrate the stories to keep the listeners on the edge of their seats.
I enjoyed this experience spending time with a very spiritual local Hawaiian and hearing authentic stories of Hawaiian haunts and paranormal experiences. Great value!
My husband loved this tour. I booked it for him. He has listened to all of Lopaka's pod casts. It is interactive so if you don't like doing things in a group of people, this may not be for you.
Whole experience was a fun time! Lopaka was very knowledgeable in his storytelling. Did some fun and scary activities. Would definitely recommend this tour.
Very informative in regards to the spiritual historic culture of the island, come with respect and an open heart
Everything went smoothly. We had another wonderful experience. This marks our third ghost tour with Lopaka, but it won’t be our last, haha! Mahalo nui loa, e Lopaka!
This tour was pretty cool. Our tour guide Lopaka was awesome. He is very intuitive and interesting. Learned some cool history about Waikiki and the night marchers. The only downside, which wasn’t our tour guide’s fault was there was a concert going on at the shell. That was a bit of a distraction, but meh. Would definitely recommend if you are into haunting and history.
If you like ghost tour you will have a great time the guide was a great story teller We had very good time
A really interesting tour if you want to get to know the Hawaiian culture from this perspective. I love anything related to paranormal or ghosts or spirits but I had no knowledge of that in regards to the Hawaiian culture. Definitely peaked my interest and was worth my evening. The only advice I would give to anyone going is charge your cell phone because there is an activity where you will need your cell phone and I had let mine die so I didn’t get to take part in the one activity… so make sure you attend this with a charged cell phone :)
Lopaka is such a good story teller, he is so full of the history of Hawaii and its people. I am going to go out to the places he spoke about before I leave the island.
Very knowledgeable and professional guide and experienced with history of the area. Highly recommend to do this tour while in Honolulu
Lopaka was a wonderful tour guide and told stories from his own experience as a Hawaiian which I loved, he knows his stuff! I loved this tour so much I also attended Lopaka’s downtown Honolulu tour the following day! This one was a bit creepy and the storytelling was phenomenal. If you love ghost stories I would definitely recommend this, it’s fantastic. Make sure to bring a flashlight if you don’t have one on your cell phone and wear comfortable shoes. I’ll definitely be back next time I visit Hawaii.
Lopaka's Night Marchers Tour is THE top ghost tour we have been on. (Go JUST for Lopaka's storytelling of this chilling time in Hawai'ian history, and how it lives on in real-time in Honolulu). We had a "message" come through at the end of our tour. Lopaka told us that all night he had sensed a pet around us, and sure enough, when we got back to our hotel, we saw photographic evidence on our iPhone of a ghost dog that looked exactly like our dear fur baby Meadow, who had passed the year before. What a special night, and one that made our visit to Honolulu memorable. Highly, highly recommend!
Great storytelling and overall fun experience. Would recommend this to anyone interested in the spooky side of Oahu.
I booked this tour as part of our family’s Christmas present. All 9 of us from 79 to 8 had a fantastic time letting Lopaka’s stories capture our imaginations. I knew it was a hit as a gift when my 13 year old niece said”this is cool” within 10 minutes of the tour beginning. We have been to Oahu many times visiting family and we have done a myriad of experiences on the island. This was an exceptional and memorable evening and I will be booking another tour with Lopaka on our next trip. Mahalo Lopaka and team!
Lopaka is the real deal and a wonderful storyteller. 100% recommend. My husband and I had a great time.
Incredibly interesting a must do item for your travel list. Very educational and an insight into hawaiian culture and lore.
Mr Lopaka Kapanui was an amazing story teller and went into great detail ! He definitely puts his all into it ! Definitely choose to do this, it was fascinating and spooky at the same time hearing about the Night Marchers !
I was looking forward to this tour. When the group was to start walking in the park on uneven ground in the dark we were told to turn the flashlight app on our phones. Not having that ability I chose to leave the tour and forfeit the fee I paid rather than take the chance of tripping and falling. I did not see any mention of needing a flashlight in the Tour write-up or I would have been prepared. Needless to say I was not pleased.
Lopaka was great, very informative and interesting to hear about the night marchers, definitely recommend!
Learning actual history with tales of the Night Marchers. And what the Night Marchers actually are and were.
I didn't really know what to expect going into this but I was very intrigued and pleased with the whole experience! Lopaka is an excellent speaker and you can't help but be entranced by his stories about the Night Marchers. There's a little bit of walking around the park that it takes place in, while he tells you stories about specific sites that you visit. The funny thing about the whole night was I couldn't help but remember certain episodes from a podcast called Spooked where a Hawaiian man told a story about an evil entity that haunted him and his friend. I meant to ask our guide Lopaka if he'd heard of the show but forgot to do it before I left. Come to find out that our guide WAS the guy from the Spooked episode! What a crazy coincidence! I had no idea!
Very knowledgeable guide, learned important information on current and historical beliefs and experiences around the area.
Lopaka was such an amazing guide he made the experience so surreal. We like how he took the time to cover us with protection so that no spirits or entities attached to us. We will recommend him to friends and family for sure.
Enjoyed our evening listening to stories of the Night Marchers. Lopaka’s voice was made for storytelling. Would recommend for something different other than the usual tourist sites.
