Had a great experience. Our guide was great & knowledgeable. Was a little Leary at first because we thought we were doing a private tour but it was about 16 & ok.

Volcanoes National Park is a World Heritage Site and it's no wonder since it is located on Kilauea the most active volcano in the world and Mauna Loa Volcano the largest volcanic mass on earth. This park is one of the most visited National parks in the country since its opening in 1916. Enjoy the informative exhibits at the Kilauea Visitor Center. Halema'uma'u crater has been active and sending its steam skyward for many years along with the Steam Vents throughout the park. Be amazed at the moon like landscape and see the diverse flora all over the park with its huge hapu'u ferns and Ohia Lehua trees.
Visit Famous Rainbow Falls and the Wailuku State Park with its Mango and Banyun trees to view and take pictures of the falls. Entree Fee included.
Spend some time at the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Factory the largest Mac Nut Orchard in the Islands and enjoy some samples of the wide variety of flavored nuts. Don't forget to visit the snack bar for sandwiches and Poke bowels for your trip to the National Park.
Visit Richardson Blacksand Beach one of only a handful of Black Sand beaches on the island and possibly get a glimpse of our Honu or the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles.
Drive through Lili'Uokalani Gardens the largest Edo style ornamental Japanese garden outside of Japan.

We had the best experience with Ferren who was very knowledgeable about the area and the Volcano, he was the best tour guide we have used for a long time , We were not rushed in anyway, he took us to many places on route , he had a great sense of humour too , I would highly recommend him and the company to anyone .
Excellent day visiting Richardson black sands, Macadamia nut factory, the fantastic national volcanoes park, the beautiful Rainbow Falls with a bonus trip to the big island candy store. Andre was our guide and he was exceptionally helpful, knowledgeable and amusing. Lovely to have just 11 passengers on the bus. Ensured we were back to the cruise ship with plenty of time to spare. One of the best days of our holiday.
Thankfully for whatever reason we were drawn to this business as soon as we got off the cruise. The guide walked us to an open vehicle that took minutes driving us to the office so we could pay for our tour. Another Thankful moment they had two tickets left to do exactly what I had in mind for the day!!! So the earlier you can get here the better chance you have especially if you want to tour the volcano & waterfall. Daniel was a great tour guide, lots of kindness, down to earth & family oriented! He had his tour mapped out so his group could sightsee the main attractions of Hilo. Lots of insight given about Hilo with Daniel leading the way. I could not have asked for a more perfect day than we had despite not knowing how I was gonna get around to things I read about. It helped our group was on time from sightseeing each time dropped off. The traffic picked up as the day went on but Daniel got us back to the cruise ahead of schedule for departure
Great experience with Steve. He was so knowledgeable and even had snacks in his van. We went to all the sights on the itinerary and Steve gave us enough time to explore without us being delayed. My husband and I encourage everyone to see all the sights in Hilo using this transportation. We were also picked up and dropped off at the pier.
My family and I recently returned from cruising the Hawaiian Islands. While in Hilo, we took a Hoppa On Hoppa Off bus tour to Volcano National Park. The small bus tour was ideal for stops along the route, especially the black sand beaches and Japanese Garden. Our driver/tour guide Stephen was entertaining, knowledgeable and very proud of his Hawaiian heritage, which we loved. He knew all of the best spots for viewing the craters and experiencing the park. We highly recommend this tour.
Family of 6 took the Ultimate Volcano National Park Tour. I booked ahead and easy pickup at the pier to their office. Tour bus of 14 persons was the right size and personalized. Went to Richardson Black Sand Beach where we were able to walk on the beach and take pictures. Drove by the famous Banyan trees, Liluokilani Gardens. Stopped at Rainbow Falls and even saw the mountain by the falls move! (Trick Daniel mentioned to do) Drove to Volcano Park and our driver, Daniel, stopped so we could get our National Park stamp! Stopped at the Visitor center to view the volcano as well at stopped at the steam vents, and previous lava flow spots where we walked on the lava and checked out the rock formations. Stopped at Thurston Lava Tube and walked through the tube--very interesting. Daniel showed us Pele's golden strands of hair, too! Stopped at Big Island Candies for treats to take back home, as well as other restroom/shopping stops. Daniel provided water, snacks, and ponchos if needed. He was very knowledgeable of the area and locations on the way to/from the park. Highly recommend the tour.
The tour was all we expected. We were picked up at the pier and shuttled to the office (walking would have been just as easy as their office is just outside the pier fencing). Getting signed in and assigned to our bus was a breeze. Once on the small bus (14 of us on the bus), our guide took us to volcano's national park. We stopped at the visitor center to see the volcano. It was fun to see it (although not erupting during our visit :-(. From the visitor center we were taken to a number of other stops in the park to see various volcanic flow formations. Our guide was a wealth of information and great at pointing out restrooms and giving us a time to be back on the bus at each stop to keep us on schedule. This tour also stopped at the lava tubes which was very interesting. I highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting to see the volcano park and the lava tube from the cruise ship.
We did the Ultimate Volcano Tour with DANIEL as our tour guide. He was awesome! Easy to understand and listen to. Very knowledgeable and if he didn't know an answer, he found out for us very quickly. The tour far exceeded my expectations with all of the stops we made. Water and snacks were provided as advertised (chips, granola bars, cheese or peanut butter crackers) . I will admit that this was not at the top of my list of things to do ... but so glad I didn't miss it. Would highly recommend this tour to others.
This was a great way to see VNP. Steve was a wealth of knowledge, taking us to the best spots, allowing enough time for pictures. The only drawback for us was that “lunch” was picking something up at a 7-Eleven. We would definitely do this again and would recommend to others.
We enjoyed a great tour with a knowledgeable driver who showed us many things and told us interesting facts along the journey. He managed time for each stop and brought us back on time. We had plenty of restroom stops and were provided with a bottle of water and some snacks. We went to Richardson Black Sand Beach, Rainbow Falls, Big Island Candies, and multiple stops in Volcanoes National Park. We also saw Banyan Drive and Japanese gardens among other things. We saw lava flowing but the big eruption happened later that night. Compared to other tours, this one far surpassed!
Daniel, our driver was FANTASTIC! He was very knowledgeable about Hilo. He answered any and all questions that were asked. We went to volcanos, lava flows, waterfall. We went to a black sand beach, Hawaii Volcanos National Park, steam vents, and a lave tube, Big Island Candies. We had a great time. At the end he dropped us off at our ship. He had snacks, and water for us on the tour.
Daniel did a great job narrating our trip! We spent just the right amount of time at each spot. Volcano National Park is spectacular. A great day!
Kaleo, our guide, was excellent. He gave us tips and information about how to make our excursion to Volcano National Park a great experience. He was very knowledgeable about Hilo and gave us plenty of time to enjoy our stops and was always available to ask questions about the area.
We did the Volcano National Park tour for cruise passengers . It was a great experience. We saw everything I wanted to see and more. Our tour guide was great, I didn’t feel rushed and he got us back to the boat in plenty of time. I highly recommend Hoppa on Hoppa off Volcano national park tour.
Great tour! We wanted a small tour and this worked out perfect! We missed the volcano erupting by 2 days but it was awesome to see the volcano site!
Absolutely unforgettable! My wife and I had the pleasure of joining the **Hoppa On Hoppa Off! Ultimate Volcano Tour** on **Monday, April 14, 2025**, from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm—and we’re still talking about it days later! From start to finish, it was an incredibly well-organized, exciting, and educational experience that exceeded all of our expectations. Our driver and guide for the day was **Farin**, and we truly could not have asked for anyone better. From the moment we boarded the vehicle, Farin greeted everyone with a warm smile and an enthusiastic welcome. It was immediately clear that we were in good hands. Farin is **extremely knowledgeable about the volcano**, the surrounding landscape, the island’s geology, and the cultural significance of the area. He didn’t just recite facts—he told stories, answered every question with patience and clarity, and made the science behind the volcano genuinely fascinating and easy to understand. On top of being a brilliant guide, Farin is also an **excellent driver**. The roads in and around the volcano can be steep, winding, and narrow, but he handled them with confidence and care. At no point did we feel rushed or unsafe. His professionalism behind the wheel gave us the peace of mind to simply sit back, relax, and enjoy the awe-inspiring scenery. The tour itself was perfectly paced, with just the right amount of time at each stop. We had multiple opportunities to get off the vehicle, explore viewpoints, take incredible photos, and even walk a short trail near one of the lava flows. Farin made sure we were well-informed at each stop and kept everything running smoothly and on schedule. The vehicle was clean, comfortable, and ideal for the terrain. Bottled water was provided, and the team even had extra ponchos just in case the weather shifted—which, thankfully, it didn’t! We were blessed with great weather and some jaw-dropping views of the caldera and lava fields. If you're even *thinking* about visiting the volcano, don’t hesitate—**this tour is the way to go**. Hoppa On Hoppa Off! truly delivers a 5-star experience, and Farin is a standout guide who made our day not just memorable, but genuinely special. Thank you for an unforgettable adventure!
THE most incredible experience! Don’t miss this tour. The highlight was the eruption at the volcano. 🌋 Our guide really knew his way around the park.
We made it back to our cruise ship with no worries and got some great photos while on the volcano tour. Our tour guide was super informative!
Our guide Kaleo was wonderful…knowledge, entertaining and very accommodating. He made sure we saw lava flow, by taking us back to the view point (after we left) when a ranger told us the volcano was flowing. He took us to scenic spots around Hilo and gave us plenty of time to explore.
We took the Ultimate Volcano Tour. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and very personable. The office staff was very helpful when I cslled to chnge our tour. The sites were all beautiful locations, but the guide made the tour.
Whoever said the volcano tour was not worth it is out of their mind. We paid about $150pp for the ultimate volcano tour and had feril as a driver and tour guide. 100% more than worth it. He started out explaining all the stops and said normally we do lunch then drive to volcano park but said since it was erupting since the day before it could stop at any time. We asked if we could go there first since volcano park was the whole point of this excursion. We all votes to do that first. Got there at 9:45am on January 28th and immediately went to viewing center watching volcano erupt until 10:30am when we headed to another area for different angle. And THANK GOD WE DID volcano stop first. Because it stopped erupting at 10:47am. All they other tour busses that went up in the afternoon got to see smoke, but we got full on eruption for 45 minutes and it was worth the cost of the trip alone. We made several stops around volcano national park and feril told many many stories and facts about the area and answered questions. Did the town tour in the afternoon and was wiped by the end of it. I would do this tour again if kilauea was erupting. 100% recommend
We used Keikana Tours last year and d8d the Hop on Hop off Tour, which was great. This year, we took the Volcano Tour with them. We had Eric as our tour guide, and he was excellent. We started off riding through the Japense Garden and the large banjo trees. We then headed to Rainbow Falls and had enough time to take a few pictures. We then stopped by a grocery store for anyone who needed to pick up a few supplies for lunch and then headed to Volcano National Park. We had some time for a bathroom break and have a quick look into the gift shop. Eric then lead us on a walk through the sulfur area trail and onto to lookout for the volcano. Was able to get some great pictures of the lava! We then boarded the bus and stopped in a few more spots inside the National Park, including another lookout for an older crater and walk through the Thurston Lava tube. He explained in detail the different colors that were in the volcanic rock. We stopped by the Volcano House for a different look towards the lava. Then we headed back to town, where we stopped at Richardson Ocean Park Black Beach. I highly recommend this tour, and we were so happy we did it.
Only disappointing thing was that the volcano erupted the day after we did the tour. Farran our guide was great, very knowledgeable of the area,
We went on the volcano tour in Hilo with Eric as our guide. He was extraordinary! We learned so many things and got to experience far more than what was advertised. One thing we learned was if you want to see it all and learn lots, be prompt in getting back to the shuttle at the time your guide requests. Our group was great about that and we got extra benefits because of it! Thank you Eric!
Our guide Ferin was excellent. Very thoughtful for our comfort and very interesting and knowledgeable. The stops in the Ultimate Volcanoes Tour were awesome
We did the Ultimate Volcanoes Tour. It included a stop at Rainbow Falls, a grocery store to buy lunch, multiple stops in Volcanoes National park, including a lava tube, and a black sand beach. Our guide was informative. It was a small bus, so we didn't have to wait for tons of people at each stop, which was a lot better than if we went with the cruise ship. We were back at the cruise port with plenty of time to board the ship.
Overall this excursion was nice. We explored the high points of volcano national park, but wish we would have had more time to see other things. You stop at a grocery store late morning to get something for lunch. The stops at rainbow falls, big island candies and the beach were nice. Our tour guide, Eric, brought us a pineapple her purchased and papaya from his garden/farm. That was a nice friendly touch!
Great tour, small group kept it personal and light. While the big cruise sponsored tours went to the volcano national park and back, we hit that plus lava tube, stopped for local tacos and then a waterfall and black sand beach.
Tour name was Ultimate Volcano Tour on 29 May 2024. Interesting tour covering lots of attractions as well as the volcanos. Snacks and water included. Tour guide (Phelan - I thanks that is how it is spelt) was very informative and had an obvious passion for Hawaii and it's history. Booked online and everything went as planned. We were on a cruise and booked this separate to the cruise tours and we felt that is was better value and a smaller tour group than if we had booked a similar tour through the ship.
Ultimate Volcano Tour was a pleasant experience to know the island of Hilo, driver/guide Daniel gave us a lot of interesting information about the places we visited
They take you to the most important places of Volcano National Park, we were lucky enough to see the volcano erupting and it was memorable... then we visited a waterfall, a black sand beach and a craft candy store. The guide was very friendly and attentive. They offer you a snack and non-alcoholic drinks... they don't stop for lunch but it's better because it takes time to tour more places.
