This tour is worth every cent. It was a fantastic day and Mac was an amazing guide who shared his immense knowledge with us on everything Hawai’i through out day. Mahalo Nui Loa.

Travel south into Kona coffee country for the first stop at Bay View Farm, a working 24 acre coffee farm nestled on the slopes of Mauna Loa Volcano just above beautiful Kealakekua Bay and known for the best Kona coffee since 1984. Here you’ll see coffee growing on the trees and learn about the various steps and processes in making coffee, all of which happen right here on the farm. You’ll sample Kona Coffee at a gorgeous overlook with stunning views of Kealakekua Bay and the monument to Captain Cook standing on the only sliver of British land in the United States.
The adventure continues as you head through the South Kona and Ka’u Districts. Stunning views, alternating between stark lava flows and Hawaiian dry forest, are visible through the huge picture windows of your tour vehicle. We stop briefly at picturesque Punalu’u Black Sand Beach. Lined with swaying coconut palm trees, this is one of the best black sand beaches on the island. Stroll along the beach and look for honu (Green Hawaiian Sea Turtles) feeding just offshore or sun-worshipping on the sand
Next travel to the crown jewel of Hawaii, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Visit the Kilauea Visitor’s Center, the Kilauea Iki Crater Overlook, and Steaming Bluffs. Take a walk through the famous Volcano House to view the smoking and steaming Kilauea Caldera. Dropping down into the lush eastern side of Kilauea Volcano our next stop is Big Island Candies.
Sample and explore Hawaii Islands best chocolate factory
Waipio Valley, known as the Valley of Kings, is a place of impossibly steep cliffs carved by plunging waterfalls cascading more than a thousand feet to the valley floor below. Waipio Valley is still home to taro farmers as it has been for a thousand years. Look closely from the overlook and glimpses of the wild horses that roam the valley floor might be possible

We booked a trip around the island for Sept 8. through Trip Advisor/Viator with only 24 hours notice. We received a call 1 hour prior to departure from the operating company KapohoKine Adventures. It seems there was an error in the reservation. The disappointment was short lived as KapohoKine Adventures stepped up and sent guide MAC HUGHES in a van and we were on our way. We were thrilled with his knowledge of the island, its history, native plants and animals. We will return and book with KapohaKine Adventures again!!
This company did not disappoint! Mac was a phenomenal guide—extremely knowledgeable, professional, courteous, and accommodating. He didn’t just share information about the places we visited; he brought them to life and made the entire experience memorable. I highly recommend this company, and if you can, be sure to ask for Mac.
A great day! The volcano was the main attraction for me, but the Rainbow Falls and Waipio Valley were beautiful, our guide Mac was very knowledgeable, also visited a coffee farm, black sand beach and other stops.
We chose this tour randomly and we are so glad we did. Our guide Marcus was amazing- very knowledgeable on the entire island. The tour was close to 11 hours long but it seemed much shorter then that as it was so well presented by Marcus. We saw amazing scenery with very diverse landscapes. Food supplied was excellent and no shortage on cold water. Would highly recommended this tour to anyone. Thanks Marcus - we really enjoyed our day with you
Guide/driver was very knowledgeable , friendly and a safe driver. Excellent vehicle to site see from.
An amazing overview of the Big Island in one day. Very well planned with stops for coffee, snacks, lunch & dinner. Beautiful scenic overlooks of the ocean, Rainbow Falls & Volcano National Park!
Our tour guide Cary is amazing. His knowledge of the flower, trees, he land and every location along the way. Not to forget an incredible sense of humor!
Ultimate Circle Island Explorer our tour/driver guide Tori was excellent! Very informative. Took us off the beaten track to see different waterfalls. Right on with our meals. And very sweet, accommodating with our needs.
We had an excellent day exploring the big island with Tory as our tour guide. She was very knowledgeable about the islands history and all the sites. We definitely learnt a few fun facts along the way. She took us to some great places and gave us fantastic tips. We did the coffee farm, bakery, black sand beach, volcano, steam vents, waterfall, big island candies and a valley with the steepest road in the USA. A very enjoyable day and would highly recommend.
I wish I could post a picture but my tour guide, she was phenomenal and SUPER KNOWLEDGEABLE! I highly recommend as a first timer to the island taking this tour. Awesome. Just awesome!!
We’ve done full day tours on the other islands but this one has become our favourite. Marcus, our guide, picked us up at our hotel in a newer very clean van. He shared a lot of history and interesting information as we made our way around the island. Seeing the black sand beach for the first time was definitely a highlight. The lunch stop was excellent with burgers and sandwiches along with the unique doughnut-like pastry which satisfied everyone’s sweet tooth. We thoroughly enjoyed each of our stops which were just the right length to see the location and take a bathroom break, if required. Volcano National Park was fascinating. The beauty of the Rainbow Falls is also amazing. Remember to bring your camera. Finally, the meals provided were a high quality and delicious. There was no comparison in taste and quantity to meals we’ve had provided on our previous tours. We highly recommend both this tour and Marcus as a guide!
Perfect Way to Tour the Island!! Our family of 4 did this tour just a few days after we arrived (daughters 15 and 9). It was a great way to explore and see areas that we might want to go back to while we there. We were on the sprinter van with our guide, Marcus, and 6 other friendly people. Marcus was extremely knowledgeable and told us many interesting things about the island and the places we visited. The stops were all unique, interesting and beautiful! The tour provided water, food and snacks. We were worried our 9 year old would be bored, but she loved the day! Would highly recommend booking this tour!
Wonderful experience.we all enjoyed a lot . The guide wa s wonderful Enjoy the morning trip so much Thanks
This is an excellent tour, so many amazing stops giving you an excellent oversight of the island. Our tour guide Robbie shared so much about her heritage us, stories and general knowledge keeping us entertained all day. The coffee farm was a great way to start the day, the waterfalls were beautiful and the Volcano National Park was spectacular. We would recommend this trip to anyone who wants to see a bit of everything.
They were over 30 min late for pick up. Excursions okay food was horrible! We all got sick from dinner.
We enjoyed our tourist experience overall. However, the van was cramped. I may have had the worst seat in the back.
Our guide Adam was great, but some of the tour stops were just shopping opportunities. We booked last minute with many trips sold out, so we were limited in choice. The coffee stop and candy stop were totally a waste of time. We passed a painted church, which we would have loved to visit and several scenic outlook places that we assume would have been good photo ops, but passed by. The lunch and dinner sandwiches were mediocre. I asked the booking agent about the interior of the bus and she said no pictures were available. It is similar to an airport shuttle bus where you are constantly crawling over people to get out. We were hoping for a larger bus that allowed you to stand up inside with seating on both sides. Very uncomfortable for those with mobility issues. I would definitely rent a car and do it ourselves next time.
Best way to be introduced to Big Island. We were picked up at our hotel. Our Guide / driver, Adam made a very enjoyable day.
Adam was an amazing guide. Very informative and with amazing stories about the Island. He kept us entertained and a was great driver. You can tell he knew his stuff. He was detailed and extremely knowledgeable about the island life , farming, and every single plant. Highly recommend this tour.
Our weather wasn’t ideal for volcano viewing, but Hank went out of his way to provide the best experience possible for our tour. Also, Hank was the best driver, clearly an expert at navigating the terrain safely in spite of the rainy conditions.
We had an excellent tour of the Big Island. Our tour guide, Adam, was very knowledgeable and had great stories to tell us throughout the day. Loved The Volcano National Park.
We loved walking through the lava tube in Volcano National Park. We also enjoyed the coffee farm. Adam, our tour guide and driver, is truly a professional guide and extremely knowledgeable. Many thanks to him for such an interesting day!
I'm no expert in Hawaii's mask mandate, but I believe the state currently requires individuals to wear masks indoors, and the Hawaii Covid-19 state website expressly states that masks are required "on public transportation or when ride-sharing." Despite this, our tour guide rarely wore his mask on the tour bus, nor did he require all of the guests on the tour to do so. We first asked him to put on his mask politely, but he shrugged it off. We then called the main KapohoKine Adventures office at our first tour stop. An employee (whose name I believe is Jamie) confirmed that masks were required by all tour guides and guests when in the vehicle, and said that the tour guide's manager would be informed. Despite this, our tour guide still did not wear his mask during most of the rest of the tour, and about half of the guests on the tour also followed his lead and did not wear their masks on the tour bus. I understand that controlling guests is difficult, but the tour guide was an employee of the tour company! We would have left the tour, but given that we were miles away from our hotel without a car (Uber/Lyft prices were around $150-$200 for the distance we had to get back to our hotel!), we opened the windows on the tour bus to try to minimize our risk. If you've been following the Delta variant in the news, then you may understand our desire for greater caution when indoors. If you are not concerned about Covid risks, you might have found the tour mostly enjoyable. It is a very efficient way to go about Big Island and to see all of the main sights (though all of it is a bit tourist-ey). Rainbow Falls was a beautiful sight. Keep in mind that this tour does not drive you down into Waipi'o Valley, but just to the Waipi'o Lookout point. The tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable, even if we were dissatisfied by his Covid safety protocol.
Amazing experience! Hank & Becca guides are wonderful. Totally worth the day, great value. I highly recommend‼️
Best way to tour the entire island in 10hrs. Adam is a superb tour guide. Very knowledgeable about the island.
The ultimate circle was such a great tour! Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable and accommodated our group needs. It seemed like such a well-rounded and planned tour that helped us really "see it all!"
Hank! We love you! Thursday circle island tour 8/5! We had an amazing tour and it was amazing because our tour guide was informed and had a great personality. Let’s face it guys this tour is expensive. BUT Hank gave you your monies worth and more. The island is gorgeous but you need to have the story behind it. Take the tour! Ask for Hank!
Best way ever to see the whole island in a day. Our guide Adam was quite knowledgeable about the culture and folklore of the island. The whole day was well planned but we never felt rushed. This tour is great for those who do not want to do a lot of hiking but still see everything. This was the highlight of our Hawaiian vacation for our 50th anniversary.
Very good tour. Long day so be prepared. Loved the Black Sand beach. Seeing the turtles was soon cool.
My wife and I took the Ultimate Circle Island Tour with KapohoKine Adventures recently and give this experience very high marks. The van was clean and comfortable and our guide Adam was very insightful. He was well versed in the local pronunciations, folklore, geologic history and flora, which provided a lot of value to the tour vs. just making the loop in a rental car. The tour mixes in a variety of different elements like black sand beaches, lava tubes, scenic overlooks and shopping at local companies. It was clear KapohoKine Adventures has this down to a science as everything was well planned and very punctual. This tour is an excellent way to experience many different elements this diverse island has to offer. The tour is a solid 11-12 hours so I wouldn't recommend bringing kids that are too young.
Hank and Rebecca were absolutely amazing. They were very informative about Hawaii’s past and current history. Even though we had a schedule to follow, they never rushed us and were willing to stop at other places. Overall I would definitely take this tour again and will recommend it. If you’re looking to experience Hawaii book this tour.
Awesome tour and even better tour guide! Marcus was super knowledgeable about the island and his passion for Kona was contagious! From coffee farms, to volcanoes and waterfalls, plus so much more I feel like I really got a taste of this beautiful island. Highly recommend.
Our tour guide, Adam was excellent. His presentation style is informative and relaxed, with many hilarious anecdotes.
We did the Kona Island tour with Adam and had a fantastic time. We had more than enough time on each site and the facts that he narrated on each site were accurate. (Fact checked during the tour). He was also very patient with my mother who has dimentia. I highly recommend going with Adam for the Kona Island Tour!
Lava tube, turtles on the beach. We did our tour on the 4th of July, so our guide brought charcoal and food to grill, and made us lunch at the caldrea in Volcanos National Park. Our guide, Adam was great! Very knowledgeable about the island and with many HI folklore stories.
Hank was an amazing tour guide! He did a phenomenal job and really enhanced our experience! We got to see all of the amazing views we were dying to see!
We saw it all! Amazing tour guide and what a value! A full 12 hours seeing and learning about the Big Island with lots of stops! Take your motion sickness meds and wear comfortable shoes- it's a lot of driving and a bit of walking!
Volcano National Park. Seeing the vents and crater. The waterfalls and touring most of the island. Our tour guide Adam had plenty of stories and information about the island and the places we saw.
Adam was fantastic, helpful and flexible. Very knowledgeable and kept the group entertained and engaged throughout the whole island tour. Was very professional and made sure the group was happy with stopping at local attractions for food, bathroom stops and local sites. He was very timely and even helped my girlfriend and I when we had roadblock events and Adam came to the rescue providing above and beyond service to make sure our island tour experience was safe and accommodating. I could reccomend Adam for more tours in the future due to his professionalism. I will be sure to try and make my trip focused on the Big Island next time when looking for activities to do when I come back and focus on the Big Island with Adam's recommendations of Manta Ray Snorkleing and the valleys.
Amazing!!! Highly recommended, our tour guide was very informative and passionate about the culture.
We were pleasantly surprised to be the only people that day. Crystal was excellent. She is a great guide, knows a lot about local culture and history. We did not visit Akaka falls but overall the whole experience was amazing. Would recommend it wholeheartedly especially if the driver/guide is Crystal Kam and Asha Patel
The Good The van driver was friendly and informative. We visited some great natural areas with Volcano's National Park, Punalu’u Black Sand Beach, Akaka Falls and Waipio Valley Overlook. We visited some good commercial spots to eat: Bay View Farm (Coffee), Punalu'u Bake Shop, Volcano Winery and Tex Drive in. Lunch at the winery was decent and wine tasting was great. Dinner at Tex Drive in was acceptable. The Bad, There was just too much time at commercial places with the good places above, but also Big Island Candies and Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Visitor Center. These places aren't bad, but it just becomes too much time at places with the sole objective to shop. We missed Thurston Lava Tube at Volcano's National Park and missed part of Akaka Falls, because of the extra shopping stops. The Ugly, The seats in the back over the wheel well are pretty uncomfortable.
Have been to Hawaii Island many times before and have even driven around the Island and toured (many years ago) on one of the "big buses". We found this small group tour to be so much superior to either of those options - largely due to the tour guide (yea Lawrence!) and his knowledge and experience. We were entertained and enlightened, given the opportunity to visit places not offered by other companies, and provided both lunch and dinner. Long day? Certainly - but well worth it to learn some more about this wonderful island, meet a few fine fellow travelers, and to talk to and listen to an Island born guide educate with entertaining facts and stories! Thanks again, Lawrence! And good job Kapohokine Adventures.
The Ultimate Circle Island Explorer tour was an amazing way to see many of the wonderful sights on Hawaii. The views, history, and food are all great! Our favorites were Akaka Falls and Waipio Valley. Our tour guide Jeanette was friendly, fun, knowledgeable, and just overall wonderful.
Jeanette was awesome, a real gem, patient and well-informed, an experienced and careful driver, and a great listener and presenter on my January 23 Ultimate Circle Tour (picked up at the Kona Sheraton). It was a beautiful tour of the island and Jeanette was the best guide and teacher - full of knowledge and respect for history, traditions and geography, a strong love of nature, able to answer a range of questions. Lunch with wine tasting and dinner was amazing. 5 stars! Mahalo. Rob, Ottawa, Canada
Thanks to our leader Jeanette for a fabulous day touring the Big Island. It was a wonderful day with spectacular sights and yummy food to boot! Highly recommend this tour. Patti & Mark
This is a great way to see the island highlights in a day. The small group atmosphere and comfortable van was most appealing. We were most impressed with our very knowledgeable guide, Nick. He has certainly found his calling. Nick enhanced the experience with his kind manner and his incredible new knowledge of the Hawaiian history and culture.
We wanted to see Kona highlights in one day. This tour did it! Our guide, Jeanette was great. Every detail was taken care of. She is very knowledgeable and imparted much information to us. We learned a lot about Hawaiian history, geology and plant life from her. It was an enjoyable day.
This tour was awesome! We saw many amazing sites. We got to stay at each spot for a good amount of time and the views are breathtaking. The food we received for lunch and dinner was very yummy as well! Having said all that, the tour wouldn’t have been as good if it weren’t for our AMAZING tour guide Lisa! She is extremely sweet, funny and very knowledgeable about everything! She went above and beyond and even stopped to let us star gaze at the end of the tour. You can tell how much she enjoys her job as well as her love for the island. Definitely worth the money, especially if you get Lisa for a tour guide!!
