Turtle Town Coastal Kayak & Snorkel: Turtles Guaranteed

Payson was a great guide. He explained all the details thoroughly which made it for a pleasant kayak ride. We were to have our excursion at 11:30 am but he reached out and gave us the option to go earlier in the morning because the weather is better early in the day! Thankful for the recommendation. I thought we would kayak longer but once we began snorkeling I enjoyed seeing the sea turtles and fish so close to us. The location was ideal and we were the only group there which made it a great experience.

What immediately stood out to me about Zephyr was their honesty, integrity, and prioritization of safety. When we arrived in Maui, there were rains and storms, which made me nervous that some plans might fall through anyway! On the day of our excursion, plans did indeed change- Zephyr called several hours before to let us know that our initial meetup spot wouldn't work due to poor conditions. They offered a reschedule, or a change of the meetup spot, which we were happy to do. When we arrived at the new spot our guide, Payson, already had the kayaks and gear set up, but explained that, due to shifting winds, he would have to make another adjustment to the original plans to make sure we stayed safe. He also offered to reschedule if we weren't amenable to the changes. As a client based professional myself, I was very impressed that Zephyr as a company would rather take a loss for a day than be unsafe or disappoint. (Also of note is that they offer a turtle guarantee- if you don't see what you came to see, they will take you out again sans additional charge) Even with the changes, everything worked out and we ended up having a great day of it! What we saw was even more beautiful than I had imagined! I think this is in great part due to Payson's extensive knowledge of the area. We were taken to a beautiful coral reef filled with parrot fish and other smaller fishes. He was able to educate us on the reef and the wildlife. We were even able to hold up a pencil sea urchin, super cool! We also saw plenty of turtles, including one that was being cleaned of algae by small fish! Payson took plenty of pictures and videos, which we were able to purchase afterward for a reasonable fee. Overall, we are super impressed with Payson as a guide and are incredibly satisfied with our experience with Zephyr! This will most certainly be the highlight of our trip, can't recommend these people enough!

Payson and Will were fun guides, knowing just where to find the turtles. We got to see the turtles being cleaned by fish and Payson found us a harmless Red Sea urchin to hold. They also captured some great pics of us swimming with the turtles.

The earlier outing (8am) usually has the best weather. Our guide (Alex) did a great job with participants of varying experience).

This tour was super great! The guides were very nice & knowledgeable. We didn't end up doing the kayaking portion due to high winds but we got to swim out & do the snorkeling which was fantastic! Would definitely recommend & would book again in the future!

This was an amazing experience. The kayaks were fun and lots of turtles to see! I’m an older lady with almost no experience snorkeling. I felt safe and wasn’t overwhelmed with the activity. Only 4 stars because the pics were super pricey and both my sister and I had to buy them, which didn’t make sense.

Our family had a fantastic experience kayaking and snorkeling today. Our guide was patient with all of us who had never snorkeled before, made sure we felt safe and taught us the skills we needed. It was very windy, so we went to an alternate area closer to shore instead of turtle town, but we still saw tons of wildlife (turtles, octopus, urchins, coral, and lots of fish.) We would definitely recommend this tour to others, it was a great experience.

Our guide Payson was awesome. He was friendly, gave us great instructions and lot of information about snorkeling and sea turtles. Our family had a great time and my son has discovered a new love for snorkeling! I did have a little anxiety about finding the meeting spot on time, but it was easier than expected. We saw many sea turtles, but the reef was not as active as other places I have snorkeled in Hawaii.

Payson J. Was our guide. We were one of three couples. Hurricane Nolo was making its way towards the islands. Payson went to the initial meeting place at 5:30am and deemed it unsafe. He found another location at 7:00am and contacted the group that the trip was still on. He took us on a great adventure, taught us kayaking skills, and assisted us into the kayaks when we were too exhausted. The trip is safe. You learn about urchins, turtles and the whale season. I highly recommend this company and would book with them again!

We had an amazing experience swimming with turtles with Alex! We were lucky enough to see so many turtles, and doing the experience by kayak made it even more special. Alex also took us to a reef, which made the experience even more interesting and memorable. I would definitely do this again!!

Alex was a fantastic guide and took us right to the perfect spots! We had a perfect blend of guided tour with really cool information while still having plenty of time to wander about the hot spots on our own. Payson was amazing! So patient with everyone - even those having “technical difficulties.” Had a great time. Only suggestion would be maybe to add another Guide when you have a larger group. It would’ve been helpful to have someone bringing up the rear to make sure those that were struggling a little bit were not too far behind otherwise it was an amazing trip we saw plenty of turtles and like I said Payson was a great guide!

The kayak snorkeling tour was definitely one of the highlights of our trip! Our tour guide, Payson, was absolutely AMAZING! 🤙 We saw so many sea turtles up close, the coral reefs were incredible, and the experience of peacefully kayaking through the ocean was both relaxing and exhilarating. Payson was friendly, enthusiastic, and had a great sense of humor. He was incredibly knowledgeable about Maui and the surrounding islands and shared so many interesting stories and facts throughout the tour. He truly made the experience even more memorable! His underwater photography was amazing, and we are so glad we purchased the photo package. The photos and videos were crisp and crystal clear, and he captured some absolutely incredible images of us with the sea turtles. Those memories will be priceless! We have been on other snorkeling tours here in Maui, and this experience far exceeded them all. I would highly recommend the Zephyr Maui Kayak Snorkeling Tour to anyone visiting Maui. We LOVED this trip. Saw probably fifteen big turtles. The guide was super nice. We were a small group and the location feels very off the beaten path which is a nice change from the many other big tourism vendors.

This was my first time in Maui and first time Snorkeling, I can very confidently with love say that this tour was one of the best outdoor activities experience I ever had. Incredible Turtle experience with Payton! He promised an amazing big Turtle Experience & he delivered! We had great Kayak instruction as well as equipment guidance and he stayed close as promised. The added addition was a nice surprise with photos & videos that we had the option to purchase which we did!

This was such a great experience and Payson (guide) was exceptional. We saw a bunch of turtles (7+) and he took awesome pictures throughout the tour. Yes, I know there was another reviewer who commented about the fee for the pictures that Payson took. What price can you put on your phone and worrying about your phone throughout the tour. Leave it and embrace the experience and let him capture all the pics. So worth it !!!!! Great pics, great kayaking & snorkeling. Just do it…….you won’t regret it !!
