Amazing, instructors were perfect with our two girls, they had a blast. Much less crowded so lots of great waves to catch!

What a great experience, what a great team. Super friendly and helped guide everyone to successful surfing. They have the perfect spot and know the waves for all types from beginner to intermediate. Would definitely use them again.

My dad and I took surf lessons and I’m so glad we did. Although, it was very tiring because the wind/current were very strong. Our instructor was extremely helpful getting us out to catch a wave. We couldn’t have done it without him with how tired we were from paddling against the strong surf. He made sure we caught the best waves and was so encouraging. Highly recommend!

Chaz and Deuce gave private surfing lessons to my 12 year old granddaughter and 10 year old grandson. The kids had so much fun, they learned alot and want to go surfing again. Chaz and Deuce were patient and funny and knew how to teach kids and make it a fun experience. Mahalo nui loa!

Our teens did their first surf lesson and loved it. Instructors were great and both got to stand up multiple times. We live in FL so our kids are good swimmers and would say if you do not swim well, I would look for something else as you may not be comfortable in these waves. Would definitely do lessons again with Surf HNL.

This was a quiet location with wide open waters. Staff was friendly and the coach was very helpful. I would definitely recommend Surf HNL.

We had the best time with Surf HNL. The staff were very helpful, enthusiastic and patient. They took extra time to explain everything and how to stand up on the surfboard prior to getting into the water. The waves were larger than average for this time of the year, but the staff helped us get past the breaking waves. We paid for two hour, but we only had energy for one hour of surfing. They offered to refund us for the second hour, which I found extremely honest. We declined the refund. They earned it with all of their help

The team at Surf HNL are amazing! We had a group of four - my husband, two teenagers and a 10yr old. All four loved the surfing class with Namaka and his team. They were patient, friendly, and professional. I would highly recommend taking a class with Surf HNL. Bonus - the meeting point is close to Ko Olina / Aulani.

My 16 yr old daughter took a private lesson. This was the 3rd time she's surfed. She said the instructor was good, and the area where they surf is pretty shallow, so she wasn't afraid to fall off the board. The people working there are all friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend!

We had an amazing time learning to surf! The lesson was brief but really helped us learn how to get out there and be successful. It’s an arm workout, but the instructors are really good at helping you out. An hour was the perfect amount of time for us. The beach was very local and private, we were able to leave our bags at their tent and had a carefree time!! Thanks so much!!

Just a top-notch, excellent group. My family had a fantastic experience. They were great with my younger kids, age 9 and 11 and my teenagers had a ball as well. My wife loved it, cannot say enough great things about this group. They also took amazing pictures and emailed them to us. Outstanding surfing experience. Just awesome!!!

I had a great time learning to surf. The team was very friendly. They gave plenty of information and displayed proper techniques. Being the old guy in the group was a bit intimidating ( 50 year old) but my instructor was very patient with me. I was very pleased with my first time surfing.

100% had a great time! Staff is friendly, relaxed, and helpful. I finally stood up again and rode out a wonderful long wave. Can't wait to return :)

Great experience. They give a brief instruction on the beach and then each member of your party gets an instruction who goes out with them. Got me up on my first try and just above every wave I attempted, was very surprised. Everyone was super friendly and you could tell just love what they do. Highly recommend if you want to try surfing for the first time.

Oh my goodness! What a great time! Kira was a wonderful instructor. I’ve wanted to learn to surf for 20 years and can’t believe I was able to do it in the first lesson. Such a great experience. My arms were a little tired from paddling but Kira made sure I had ample rest between runs. Recommend strengthening your arms a few weeks before to help.

Very professional and personable! Hubby and daughter had a great time- They were very patient with our daughter (16) and she had a blast! Do it!

For a long-time land-locked wannabe surfer this was an awesome experience. Austin, Kira, and Sophia were an excellent crew and taught me all I needed to know to get up surfing in my first lesson. Second lesson (yep, so much fun I came back two days later!) I caught many waves. My success was mostly because of their skill, experience and ability to provide just the right instruction. More than that, they were fun-loving, surf-loving locals who made me feel part of the family. I would highly recommend Surf HNL for anyone who wants to try, or improve on, their surfing. Just be sure you or your driver follow the instructions to the beach exactly - it's a little tricky to find - but that makes it great because it's an uncrowded authentic Hawaii surf experience.

My husband and I booked a private surf lesson while visiting Hawaii and what a great experience it was. We were lucky to have Austin and Namaka as our instructors and they were amazing. The location wasn’t the most straightforward to find; however the staff were great with helping us locate them. Once we were there they were great instructors wasting no time getting you in the water to surf. They were kind and patient with my daughter and me, and very encouraging. Definitely a fun experience.

None of our group had surfed before. I would highly recommend Surf HNL. They were great instructors, particularly for beginner surfers.

My 15 and 13 yr old daughters have never surfed before. Both were a little nervous as the waves (at least to them) looked pretty intimidating. The HNL staff was great. After 15 on shore, both were paddling out for their first attempts. The instructors helped "tow" them out and get in position. On their second attempt both girls road waves for 7 or 8 seconds for about 50 yards. That may be the biggest I've ever seen them smile! They absolutely loved it. During the hour lesson each got up about 10 times, some longer, some shorter. We will 100% do this again next trip--the girls are already asking about it. Highly recommend HNL! Super easy to get to from Ko'Olina. My only regret is not doing it myself--next time for sure.

Our 13 year old daughter really wanted to try surfing during our trip to Hawaii. Most of the lessons I found were in Waikiki, so I was not loving to have to drive there from KoOlina. Then, I found SurfHNL has a location really close. The overall experience was really fantastic. They gave her a rash guard and leggings to wear during the lesson. We did the 2 hour private session. It was perfect. She stayed out the full 2 hours and had so much fun. She got up her first try and many tries after. The staff also takes great pics with a ultra zoom lens to allow for memories. Overall, so much fun. We loved watching and they even had a little tent area setup to stay out of the sun as needed.

Instructors were awesome! So helpful and encouraging and also had a great time during lessons. Highly recommend!

This was a great experience! I don’t usually feel comfortable in the water but Surf HNL made me have a day to remember! They provided ocean shoes, rash guard, and life jackets if needed! Workers were awesome, so friendly and funny!

We were on a 12 year-old trip with our grandson, a trip to see and experience things for the first time. This was a wonderful choice and a highlight of our time on Oahu and the Big Island. It was well worth the drive out from Waikiki. It was a perfect spot for a first time lesson. The walk to the beach and the beach itself were just the setting for the lesson. With only two families and 5 children scheduled in our time slot, the adults quickly became a cohesive cheering team. The instructors were awesome. Colin worked with our grandson and was terrific. Though anxious about being able to stand on the board, our grandson was up and riding a wave almost immediately. On a Wednesday morning, there was no one else on the beach. Chairs under a tent provided shade for the non-surfers. In every way, this gets an A+!

This was the first time we traveled to Hawaii and using Viator seemed to be the best way to maximize our stay—and we were right. My 13 year old granddaughter had never surfed before—Sophia was her instructor ( and our transporter as well) and she was terrific! She prepared her well and my granddaughter got up on her first day! She totally loved the experience. There were some scheduling glitches but they worked everything out to our satisfaction. Would definitely recommend!!

I took a private lesson and rented equipment with surf HNL and both were excellent experiences. I had a bit of surfing experience but was afraid to check out the surf alone, especially because of the reef break, so I took my first surf lesson and absolutely loved it. Instructors are clearly very experienced and passionate about their work. they knew which equipment to start me on and were very encouraging and positive. They also gave me tips when I came back just for rentals. For renting the gear they went above and beyond. They don't rent so often but they were quick to accommodate my schedule and needs and made it possible for me to get in some pre-work surf sessions.

Surf HNL was amazing! Sam picked us up at out hotel, was super friendly and welcoming, and drove us to a great spot for first time surfers. My daughter and I had a great time! The guides were very friendly and patient and gave us some excellent tips to get us surfing. 10/10!

Each of us were provided a personal instructor to help in the water. They were amazing, enthusiastic and encouraging. We could not have been more pleased with each of the 4 instructors.

Surfing was something my kids had to try on our recent trip to Oahu! Staying at Aulani, we were not really keen on traveling all the way to Waikiki to get in the water, which is how I found Surf HNL. This was a very lucky discovery for us as I could not imagine a better adventure for my kids than they had with this experience! Prior to booking I found Surf HNL to offer excellent customer service with respect to questions I had about lesson timing as well as transportation. Booking online was quick and comprehensive, I as able to add transportation to our experience and there was also availability to purchase photos and additional time for the lessons as well. Communication immediately after booking was great, as it was the day before and morning of, our ride arrived early and I was advised of his location and car description my text before we'd even left the lobby of our hotel. Our driver, and later surf instructor, could not have been more pleasant or knowledgeable about the area and activity as a whole. It was a quick, 10-15 minute ride to the beach on the southwestern shore of Oahu, where Surf HNL had a tent and chair set up. Due to their ages (9 and 5 years), my boys were taking private lessons, riding in tandem with their instructors who were wonderful, cheerful and patient. After being fitted with wetsuits and a quick land-based set of instruction and practice, it was off to the water for a good 45 minutes! Both of my kids were able to ride 6-8 waves each after getting pretty far out into the surf an both were able to ride/stand for at least several of those tries. One of my kids rode a few more waves standing than the other, who wiped out more frequently (and this was expected, given their natural aptitudes and balance). Both of the kids had an absolute blast no matter how they ended up back in the water and I can's say enough for how kind and patient their instructors were. Best of all, any time we saw waves and surf for the remainder of our trip, my kids would excitedly chatter about how fun it would be to get out in the water to surf them, given their lessons with Surf HNL. Overall, we'd come back to this company and experience in a heartbeat should we ever find ourselves again on Oahu. Between the excellent communication, flexibility on lesson length and wonderful instructors, it was a lovely and fun introduction to this epic activity. Thanks again Surf HNL!!

My boyfriend and I had never been surfing before, but our instructor did a great job coaching us through the basics and helping us catch waves in the water! Would definitely do this again next time we are in Hawaii!

Barber Point surf lessons. We had a 2 person exclusive lesson. It was great there was at least 1 instructor with both of us all the time. Sometimes there was 2 with us for one on one coaching. They did a great job. Very friendly. Made time enjoyable. A+++ service! Thank You

We had such an awesome time surfing! The whole team of instructors was great and especially Sam and Kylie! I was a first time surfer and my husband has been surfing for years and they effortlessly worked as a team to make sure we both had a great time for our levels. They helped him catch more waves since he was a strong paddler and they helped me not only catch waves, but also to paddle out when I was struggling. They were obviously very experienced surfers and they were still super encouraging of my amateur riding. I cannot imagine a better first time surfing experience! I would definitely go back and highly recommend for a variety of levels.

My nephews had such a great time, we squeezed another lesson in before our trip was over. Surf HNL did a great job communicating with us. A few days before our planned lessons near Ko'olina, they reached out and let us know they needed to move our lesson to Al Moana Beach park due to some shark sightings at the other beach. The boys had private lessons both times and their instructors were wonderful (Nate [twice], Namaka and Brody). At Al Moana the surfers are pretty far away so recommend bringing binoculars if you plan to watch from shore. Appreciate Surf HNL (John) for squeezing us in for the second lesson. Such a hit!

Excellent instructors that keep an eye on each student. If one strays, an instructor quickly surfs closer. Smart mitigation measures in place. All equipment included in price. Friendly and knowledgeable staff!

This was our first experience surfing and my husband, 16 year old daughter and 12 year old son had the best time! My son and husband got up their very first waves and were up every wave after! My daughter took a few more tries but got up as well. They were very patient and encouraging. My son loved it so much, he’s taken two more lessons on our trip! This was also really close to Aulani where we were staying. Highly recommend!

All around awesome time. The surf instructors were great!! (Sam, Pria and Kylie) We did a family group and everyone got up and rode waves. It was also nice being away from Waikiki and the hundreds of surfers there. My daughter thought it was great having female instructors. It made it much less stressful. Highly recommend this company

Best ever! I got surf lessons for my 12 & 15 year old granddaughters. I’m always concerned about their safety and not only did they keep them safe they got my younger grandchild to smile! Which is not easy to do. “Great job”
