Stargazing Tour In West Maui

After two attempts to complete this experience, we were told by the tour operator that it only works out about once a week because of weather. If the average of the tour actually happening is only once a week, they shouldn’t be offered during poor winter times. It took us an hour both times to drive to the location only to be told try again next time. I highly recommend passing on this excursion unless if you are extremely close to the location and don’t mind it not working out. We were also offered a 50% refund and never received it.

What a magical night!! Seeing the starlit sky was a breathtaking experience, and Christian was such an amazing guide. It was simultaneously relaxing and fun/interactive. A beautiful way to spend an evening in Maui. Highly recommend!

This was such a fun and unique experience I don’t think you’ll be able to find many other places. Due to the lack of light position, the amount of stars that were visible was truly breathtaking. Christian was clearly knowledgeable in all things space and I’d say 95% of what I learned was knew and interesting facts I’d never been taught about the stars. For this tour you get to sit on the beach in the dark (also it’s byob, who doesn’t love that?) while Christian not only tells you about the stars but also shows you through a high tech telescope. He was open to questions and always had an answer. 10/10 would recommend, this was such a magical experience and I learned a lot.

We loved the entire experience, especially our 6 year old. Rael (hopefully I spelled her name correctly), our tour guide did an amazing job. If we were to visit Maui again, we would definitely book this tour again!

If you are starry-eyed about astronomy and typically drop the word "nebula" into daily conversation, then experts Christian and his partner in planetary punditry are speaking your language. Be amazed by what you can see with the naked eye, as outlined by Christian with his laser pointer. The limited views through the telescope were less than enthralling, but that might differ nightly depending on conditions. The hosts are particularly adept at drawing in kids 10 and up who are genuinely interested in the stars.

An absolutely unforgettable experience! We went on the Stargazing tour and were blown away. Our guides were incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, making complex astronomy concepts so easy to understand for the whole family. We got clear, breathtaking views of the Moon's craters and Jupiter view through the high-powered telescopes.

Depending on the clouds, it’s amazing. Also great to hear about Hawaiian culture and the stars. Great way to experience the beach at night too!

This was by far the best thing I did in Maui! The stars were absolutely incredible. Looking through the telescope at the different star clusters, nebulae, and planets was epic. Christian and Raelle were fantastic guides and shared so much fascinating info about the universe. 10/10 would recommend if you want to see a beautiful night sky and learn all about astronomy.

Family group ages 8-70+ had a wonderful experience. Days after, it was amazing how much both kids and adults were still talking about what they had seen and learned. Saturn along with the moon and open star cluster were the hits of the experience!! Definitely recommend.

Booked with Christian before we arrived in Maui. Christian was really good to reach out to us about an hour before the experience for two nights running because he said the sky was too cloudy and we would not see much - he immediately offered either a full refund or another night, and kept in touch with us throughout. Fortunately on the third night the sky cleared and we could go ahead. We met Christian in a car park opposite the beach and he provided us with red light torches to see our way onto the beach, which was pitch-black apart from some people fishing. Christian had set-up his incredible telescope on the beach together with a mat with space for us all to lie down and look up at the stars. Christian was so informative about what we were looking at and happy to answer any and all questions, he was a brilliant guide. We particularly loved viewing the moon through the telescope and Christian was able to take some photos for us as a memento of our experience. Highly recommend if you are in Maui!

Overall, the stargazing experience was okay. While it was enjoyable to look through the telescope and see planets, stars, and the moon, the tour didn’t quite meet our expectations in terms of depth and cultural context. The tour also felt somewhat forced. It was initially canceled due to unexpected cloud cover and then rescheduled, but when we returned, there were similar cloudy conditions and the tour still continued. This felt inconsistent, and at times it seemed like the guide was pushing through the experience despite limited visibility. That said, we were still able to see some stars, planets, and the moon, which was enjoyable. We were hoping for more emphasis on how Native Hawaiians and Polynesians historically used the stars for navigation, along with deeper insight into Hawaiian and Polynesian constellations. While the guide was knowledgeable about general astronomy and shared fun and interesting facts, the experience felt more entertainment-focused rather than historically or scientifically driven. The location itself is quite dark, making it a great spot for viewing the night sky, which was definitely a highlight. Overall, it was a cool experience, but it lacked the cultural depth we were hoping for, which is why I’d give it an average rating.

It’s about a one hour experience on the beach. The telescope is excellent. Christian was very knowledgeable. We saw about 5 different views and time at the telescope is limited by the number of people.

The night sky in Kapalua is fantastic and the knowledge shared on the tour is unrivaled. Christian knows how to deliver a fantastic tour and I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves science and astronomy.

Great excursion that should be part of your Maui stay. Saw lots of interesting celestial bodies including Saturn . Perfect setting on the beach and well informed guide Christian who provided enough information and stories without sounding like a lecture .

I was incredibly impressed with Christian’s knowledge of astronomy and how stars and planets form and behave. What an amazing experience to have on our first night in Maui! Loved it!

This was AMAZING! We walked to a super dark part of the beach where we saw more stars than we've ever seen in our lives! The guide was SO smart and told us all kinds of facts about the stars, planets, and galaxies. He had this awesome laser pointer which went all the way up to the sky so he could point our particular constellations. The MOST amazing thing we saw was Saturn. The telescope was so powerful that you could see the rings. This was the last activity we did on our trip and it was the perfect, most relaxing way to cap things off. If you (or your kids) are interested in space you will really enjoy this!

Wow, what an amazing experience. Christian was an excellent tour guide with so much knowledge about the stars and universe. He had an answer for every question asked by myself and anyone else in the group. In addition to his vast knowledge about the night sky, planets, constellations, etc., he integrated the Hawiian culture and how they read the stars and knew the Hawiian names for the constellations! I love the Hawiian culture and that was a big hit for me. All in all I give this experience a 10/10 and would 100% do it again next time I visit Maui. When you visit Maui this is a must do!! We lucked out and ended up with a private tour. It was excellent, easy location to drive to and a short walk to the beach. Christen explained everything so well and showed us some truly amazing things.

I can’t recommend this stargazing tour enough! Christian was not only incredibly knowledgeable about the stars, but he had a gift for weaving together Polynesian culture, Greek mythology, and modern astronomy in a way that was both fascinating and easy to follow—even for a beginner like me. His passion shines through in every part of the experience. You could tell he’s spent years honing his craft in New Zealand, and it was so impressive to see how thoughtfully he’s adapted that deep knowledge to the northern night sky of Maui. He brought the constellations to life with rich stories and cultural context, and somehow managed to keep both first-timers and astronomy buffs equally engaged. The whole tour felt immersive and interactive, with lots of opportunities to ask questions, gaze through a telescope, and learn through storytelling. It was one of those rare experiences that leaves you feeling more connected to the world around you—and the sky above. If you’re on Maui and looking for something truly special, this tour is a must-do. Bring a light jacket and leave your phones and electronics in the car, Christian has little red light torches to help guide you to a big comfy mat set up on the beach!

Christians knowledge of the night sky is incredibly vast.. I tried stumping him a few times but he quickly showed me that he has such a deep understanding of the unknown! Highly recommend.

Booked this solo/last minute. I wasn’t sure what to do with a free evening and it was so worth it! Good mix of scientific education and storytelling, and blended Polynesian, Greek, and modern western information to make this truly unique. Tip: bring a light sweater and comfy clothes you’re ok lounging in, this takes place on the beach. A comfortable sand-free mat is provided which makes it really pleasant to lay back and have the full sky view. Highlight for me was seeing Jupiter and its moons!! What a treat

The views were amazing! Despite the weather looking on the cloudy side, we trusted our guide and boy did it pay off. The sky was absolutely amazing and the amount of knowledge that Christian had about all things space was just downright impressive. This was such a great way to spend the evening enjoying maui in a different light. Thank you star gaze west maui!

Amazing star gazing experience. I never knew how much I didn't know about all the stars and constellations surrounding us. Christian is a great guide and has a great amount of knowledge, laid back and easy to understand. It's moment like these that give you a whole new perspective and appreciation for life and everything surrounding us. I would a 100% recommend this for anyone and any age group. We will definitely come back for another round in the future!

This was really fun and incredibly educational. Such a great and unique way to spent a night on Maui. The island has unlimited day time activities but not much at night, so this was such a treat. Soooo much fun. So much better than what I expected because we got to see all the constellations with the telescope but also we were submerged in nature the whole time. Super memorable night from our trip! The guide Christian was so nice.

The Best Nighttime Experience on Maui I’ve never been anywhere else where the stars shine this bright, so getting to use a telescope here was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. Christian, the owner and guide, has years of experience—he’s even done this in New Zealand—and his passion for astronomy is contagious. He breaks everything down in a way that’s easy to understand, so whether you know a lot about space or nothing at all, you’ll walk away amazed. This was my first time looking through a telescope, and I was blown away. We saw multiple planets, the moon up close, constellations, satellites, and maybe even an alien (still not ruling it out). The location in Kapalua is perfect—dark skies, no city lights, just a wide-open view of the universe. If you’re looking for a unique way to spend an evening on Maui, this is it. Who needs bars when you’ve got galaxies?

This tour was fantastic! It was both informative and interactive, with a touch of humour that made it even more enjoyable. The telescope we got to use was incredible! I’ve never seen the moon and stars up close before. I also witnessed amazing shooting stars throughout the entire tour. It was the best stargazing experience I’ve ever had.

This guy knows his stuff! The way he presented information about the cosmos blew my mind! So fun and so informative. And he was great with my teenagers, who I thought wouldn’t be interested. Very lovely experience!

Our guide, Christian, was extremely knowledgeable about the night sky and kept our attention the entire tour! He has a wonderful way of explaining mind blowing concepts in simple terms so anyone can understand, have a blast, and walk away with a deeper appreciation for our night sky.
