Aaron, our guide for the Big Island Twilight Volcano and Stargazing tour, is incredibly knowledgeable about the Big Island of Hawaii, and his passion for sharing that knowledge is infectious. The scope of the tour makes for a long day, but it’s worth it. Top-notch and highly recommended.

Take a tour of a Kona Coffee Farm to learn about the harvesting and milling process while sampling Kona Coffee and Tea. Enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the beautiful Kealakekua Bay.
A charming local farm known for its Hawaiian-grown macadamia nuts, tropical fruits, and sweet treats. Guests can stroll through the farm, learn about local agriculture, sample a variety of products, and enjoy the peaceful countryside of southern Hawaiʻi Island.
Relax and take it all in at Punalu’u Black Sand Beach, a great place to spot marine life from the shore, like Hawaii’s green sea turtles.
Various stops are made to view magnificent volcanic eruptions during the day and twilight, as well as past lava flow sites and craters, condition permitting. In addition, your certified tour guide provides an educational and insightful narrative about the volcanoes as you visit steam vents, Kilauea Crater Lookout, a portion of the Chain of Craters Road, and the crater rim trail.
Walk along a bridge that gives you a literal inside look at Hawaii, as you follow it to the eerie Thurston Lava Tube, a 600-foot-long (183-meter) cave formed hundreds of years ago by an underground river of magma.
Your guide will take you to a secluded and ideal location for stargazing. Depending on weather condition, you will observe stars, planets, galaxies, moon, and much more while your guide shares interesting legend and lore of the sky.

Wonderful guide Todd! I would recommend to everyone. We toured coffee plantation and macadamia nut farm. We were fed lunch and had a spectacular dinner at lava café, saw the volcano vents, lava tube and through the telescope Saturn and the moon! Great experience!
Make sure you check out the company that is actually doing the tour for any other information that would be helpful, as Viator does not give a lot of info about additional details of trip.
Todd was nothing short of an excellent tour guide! He was so knowledgeable about Hawaii and its history, about volcanoes, about stars; quite impressive. Todd was an amazing star gazer pointing out so many constellations! Honestly, the tour was a five star experience because of Todd. Our only criticism would be the second coffee tour was really only a souvenir stop providing island goodies.
Jason was great! He gave us so much history and helpful information during the drive. He’s very good at his job and was so accommodating to everyone and their needs. Leading up to our stops, he would tell us about where we were going next, the history of the location as well as interesting facts. He was prepared with food, drinks, and even jackets if needed. We got the best spots for pictures too! Definitely worth it!
Saw and learned a lot. Comfortable van, stops were arranged for our comfort. Saw a lot of big island life, sites, and beauty. Our guide, Aaron, was knowledgeable, helpful and made the day fun.
This is an excellent tour that gives the opportunity to experience several of the must see/must do sites/activities on the Big Island. You will hit many of the highlights, including visiting a coffee farm, macadamia nut/honey farm, black sand beach, Volcano National Park (including a walk through a lava tube and night time viewing of the glow from a lava pool). The night was capped off with a stargaze that was stunning. We were fortunate to hook up with another Wasabi tour group whose guide had a telescope - we were able to see Saturn and its rings - that was awesome, The picnic lunch was flavorful and the dinner at a local restaurant was also very good. We give a big shout out to Felix, our guide, who was very knowledgeable, fun and accommodating.
Todd our guide was awesome very informative! We went to all the best sites saw some honu(sea turtles) at the black sand beach, went to volcanoes National park, steam vents, Lava tube went back to Kīlauea at sunset and we got to see it spurt out a bit of lava! Then on to the stargazing! Todd was very informative of the constellations, we saw the Milky Way with our naked eye, 4 shooting stars and we saw Saturn with his telescope. He had jackets for those who needed them it got quite cold 45°at time of stargazing so dress in layers or bring warm clothes to change into.
Our last full day in Hawaii ( 9/19/2026), we wanted to tour the volcanoes, hoping Kīlauea would erupt while we were there. We chose Wasabi Tours, Big Island Hawaii: Volcano and Stargazing with Dinner. Our tour guide, Dreu, picked us up timely to begin our tour. We could not have asked for a better tour guide! The van had very comfortable seats and accommodated a small group nicely! Dreu is exceptionally knowledgeable and kept us entertained the entire tour! Dreu’s first stop was a local coffee farm where we learned about the harvesting of coffee beans. Then on to a macadamia/chocolate farm and lunch at the farm. The next stop was over to the black sand beach, where we saw 8 or 9 sea turtles! What a find! Then on to the National Volcano Park and the star of the show: Kilauea! There was a mini eruption 3 days earlier, so we were able to see the fissures as Kilauea geared up for a full-on eruption 5 days after our visit! What a sight! As our tour progressed, we walked through a rainforest, walked through a lava tunnel (cool!), and then had a delicious dinner at Lava Rock Cafe. After dinner, we drove back to the Kilauea summit and stood on the rim of the caldera to view Kilauea. What a sight! (Also, what a chilly, misty night—take a jacket!) On the drive back to the hotels, once the clouds cleared up, Dreu stopped for a lesson in stargazing. Out all day and back by 10:30 p.m… what a great day made all the more memorable by our illustrious tour guide: Dreu! So worth the price…book a tour with Wasabi Tours and be sure to ask for Dreu! It will be one of the most memorable highlights of your Hawaiian trip!
This all-day tour was one of the highlights of my Big Island trip. Road closures in the south meant Wasabi had to reroute the tour, and they handled it smoothly. They sent the new itinerary ahead of time, and the day still felt complete. We saw Rainbow Falls and the black sand beach at Richardson Ocean Park, walked through a lava tube, and stood at the Kilauea Caldera in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Ending the night stargazing on Mauna Kea was incredible. Our guide was excellent: knowledgeable, organized, and great at keeping a long day fun and relaxed. If you only book one tour on the Big Island, make it this one.
Todd is amazing and very well informed. He made sure that we all had a good time and took real good care of the grouo. Would definitely recommend this tour!
The stops and timing were good. I would have rated them 5 except for these items. They did not stop at the marker/sign of the park for pictures. If you are going to get stamps cancelled for NPS passport and buy souvenirs at the visitors center forget about it, they drop us off and left. The driver did not tell us that we can buy souvenirs at the hotels where it is one of the stops. Another thing , they dont ask if you have a park pass, which I assume that the entrance fee was included in the total fee. You are not asked about entrance fee when booking. There were a few people that have senior passes (a total of 6 in this trip inc one for each for me and my wife). I guess for a tour, the vehicle is $30.00 which cover 14 passengers inc driver
We booked the volcano tour with Wasabi Tours and came away feeling like we'd experienced the best of what the Big Island has to offer in a single day. Much of that credit goes to our guide, Felix. Felix's passion for his work was genuine and contagious. He didn't just point out the sights. He brought them to life with deep knowledge of the island's history, geology, and culture, along with thoughtful insight into current events affecting the island and its communities. His storytelling made every stop more meaningful, and it was clear he truly loves sharing his home with visitors. With a hurricane approaching, parts of the itinerary had to be adjusted. Wasabi Tours handled it with real professionalism and care. They kept us informed, made sound decisions with our safety in mind, and reworked the logistics so smoothly that we never felt we missed out. That kind of thoughtful planning under pressure says a lot about the company. We would highly recommend both Felix and Wasabi Tours to anyone visiting the Big Island. If you get the chance to tour with Felix, take it!
Jason was an excellent guide. He went above and beyond to share a lot about Hawaii history and culture, even beyond what we were seeing. He also knew a lot about the geology of the volcanos.
Long day—with extreme temperature changes and elevations but worth it! Jason was a great guide. He was most concerned with the quality of our experience and was also a wealth of knowledge.
We had a great time on the Small Group Big Island Twilight Volcano and Stargazing Tour with Wasabi Tours Hawaii. Jason was a fantastic guide who shared lots of interesting information and took us to a few extra spots. It is a long day, so be ready for a full-day trip. Lunch and dinner were both really tasty.
Went with my daughter, we stopped at shops, farms, parks the volcano the lava tube a restraunt & Todd the driver even brought his telescope out and let us look through it!
Felix was a wealth of knowledge and experience and very entertaining and did an amazing job, thank you Felix, we hit a once a year rain storm on the twilight star gazing sky was full of clouds, Felix did not give up and found a spot where we saw amazing stars and planets, Felix saved the trip!!!!
The guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. We saw everything that was listed on the tour description,
WoW! and WoW! At first, my husband and I were concerned about the length of the tour (pick up at 10:30am - drop off at 10pm!) However, Drew (our phenomenal tour guide) and Wasabi Tours Hawaii definitely know how to plan a tour!! We were promptly picked up at our resort (Club Wyndham at Kona) where Drew introduced himself and shook each of us passengers by hand. After all pickups had been made of the 13 passengers, the tour officially began! Though not native to Hawaii, Drew began to share his vast and expert knowledge of the history and culture of the Big Island - even pronouncing all of the Hawaiian villages and landmarks with perfection! The tour made several stops at scenic areas and local farms, including Paradise Meadows Orchard and Bee Farm, (where we enjoyed a yummy lunch), Whittington Beach* and a macadamia nut farm. (Apologies, I can’t recall its name:/) All stops were efficiently timed and passengers were given ample time to explore, eat, sample, stretch our legs, eat, shop, and take care of other essential needs. Throughout the driving portion of the tour, Drew broke it down into well-thought-out segments, including his sharing of cultural stories and historical narratives, pauses/quiet times– when we listened to beautiful and relaxing Hawaiian-infused pop music), and the last segments, included conversing and taking questions from his passengers. About half way into the tour, the moment we had all been waiting for – our arrival at the effusive and significant Kilauea Volcano!!! Our first sighting of the magnificent Kilauea Volcano was awesome and simultaneously humbling! Her caldera is massive and we witnessed the heat from her lava flow steaming upwards from the cracks and crevices in the ground. We watched in awe as her gentle and heaving ‘hula’ dance consistently oozed orange flows stretching outwards underground like glowing roots. After another stop for a tasty dinner at Lava Rock Cafe in Volcano, darkness was upon us and Drew announced it time pay a second visit to witness the twilight glow of Kilauea Volcano and, of course, she did not disappoint!! Her fiery and shifting lava flow was much more visible and we were rewarded with more photos and videos! Alas, Drew announced it was time to make the return trip back to our resorts, including another bathroom break at the luxurious and famous Volcano House! Enroute back to our resorts, and with perfect timing, Drew announced that the clouds that were initially present, had now parted and that we would be able to stop for another special treat - Stargazing! Again, Drew really impressed us with his knowledge of astronomy, the constellations, and answering our questions. On the journey back to our resort, my husband and I agreed that this experience with Wasabi Tours Hawaii, and especially the delightfully entertaining guide, Drew; was well worth the hours and had been one of the BEST, if not THE BEST tours we had participated in in our decades of travelling and touring!! Need I say, we highly recommend!!
We had a great time on our tour! Dean was funny and entertaining as he shared information about the island, the people and the sites we visited.
Jason was a fantastic tour guide. Would highly recommend. We even got to see volcano activity. Food was excellent.
Be prepared for one of the best small group tours you will ever go on! It is an all day (and night) affair, about 13 hours, but well worth the time. Todd was a great driver and extremely knowledgeable and personable guide. We were lucky to see Kilauea spewing lava, despite the foggy and rainy weather, which miraculously cleared up when we went back to halemau’mau crater after dinner. All told it was an unforgettable experience well worth the time and money!
Wasabi tours did a good job. They have windbreaker jackets, umbrellas, and flashlights. Everything needed he had. Drew was fun all day, very knowledgeable and charismatic. The food was also good.
This was one of our favorite things we did. Our guide Dreu was the best guide we have had on any excursion we have ever done. He went above and beyond to make the experience amazing. We took the tour Monday before the 53 eruption of the volcano. While enjoying dinner with the group we were watching the live feed and as it got dark we could see it start to glow. We asked if we could go back to the lookout and see it, we werent sure if we were going to get a good look at the stars since it was slightly overcast. Dreu took us back to see the glow and we still were able to stargaze as well it ended up clearing up. Dreu was so knowledgeable, he engaged the group and made everyone feel like family.
I don’t normally leave reviews for these things but I had to this time. Our tour guide Todd was excellent. The first half of the day was already fantastic, getting to visit the coffee farm, bake shop and black sand beach. Todd was incredibly knowledgeable and we learned lots along the way. We were amazingly fortunate that we entered the national park 15 minutes after Kilauea started having an episode. We got to experience it pretty much from when it started through to just before it ended. Todd knew the spots to take us to ensure we got the best views and even got us back there at dark so we could experience those views. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience and seeing the volcano erupt, was just icing on the top of the cake.
This was one of the most amazing tours I have ever been on. Todd was fantastic guide and we came away from the experience with more knowledge and enriched!
5 ⭐️ No notes Got to see the volcanic eruption (both in the day and at night), black sand beach, more stars than I’ve ever seen and the Milky Way all in one trip!!!!
This Wasabi trip was outstanding!!! We got to see so much in a 12 hour period!! Our guide Drew was a trip within our trip! He was so entertaining and knowledgeable about the area. Drew kept the tour interactive and fun!! I highly recommend this trip!!
What a great day! Tour guide very efficient to ensure we completed all the promised adventures. Tasted coffee at scenic Bayview Coffee farm, ate delicious masaladas at bakery, visited black sand beach, walked through lava tube, saw Kīlauea in daylight, visited Volcanos National Park gift shop, ate delicious dinner at Kīlauea Lodge (available Mondays only), returned to park after dark to see glow of volcano, and did some star gazing. Drew did great job of entertaining us and provided education on Hawaiian history, culture and coffee farms. Well worth the time and money!
The trip was amazing! From start to finish to notch. The duaghter and I decided we wanted a chill day on the island and decided to go on this adventure. We had Felix as our guide and he was the best. From the first minute he picked us up til the end. He allways made sure everyone was taken care of and his knowledge of the island was second to none. If we every make it back to the island would do this again!!
Our tour guide, Aaron, was an absolute pleasure to spend time with. He’s remarkably knowledgeable, weaving together history, local culture, geography, and even astronomy into every stop along the way. Listening to him felt like watching a beautifully produced National Geographic documentary; his command of language and pacing was masterful, each story flowing seamlessly into the next. He even paired his narration with background music, adding a wonderfully immersive touch to the whole experience. Genuinely one of the most engaging and enjoyable guides we’ve ever had. Highly recommend!
The Twilight Volcano & Stargazing Tour was amazing, our guide Aaron was fantastic! Having someone from island giving the tour made the experience that much better because Aaron had extra insight on just about everything we saw on the tour. The highlight of the trip for my wife and I was seeing the active volcano during the day and returning a bit later at night to see the glow. It was also a great evening for stargazing as we were able to stargaze from on top of the volcano.
Felix was phenomenal! Our tour ran on time all day. The information that he provided really sewed the trip together as we traveled from our first stop at the Kona coffee farm through the stargazing in multiple locations. The clean fans were very comfortable for our small group tour. Felix make sure that we were well hydrated and had plenty if snacks. I’m sure the other tours were good that day, but if you didn’t have Felix, I’m sure that you were missing something.
An amazing experience, Dreu really made the tour unique and exciting. His passion for and knowledge of the island was clear and infectious, I saw amazing things and learned so much. This is my wife and I’s first time in Hawaii and I would say this was our most memorable experience of all of the activities we have gotten to do. This tour is a must do, and one worth repeating if you have done it before.
It was truly breathtaking seeing and being on an active volcano. Felix was an very informational guide made the day fun.
Derek was a great guide! He made the day tour very entertaining, informative, and comfortable.
It is much more than just an amazing volcano park and star gazing tour. They break up the trip from Kona with well placed stops featuring best of local spots. Our our guide Felix gave us wonderful insights about the Big Island all along the way.
Felix, our tour guide was amazing! I would recommend this experience!!
The tour guide was great. He was very knowledgeable about the island and its geology and the history.
Our family of 5, which included 3 teenage daughters, booked this tour while visiting the Big Island. This is a long tour, but well worth it. Exploring Volcanoes National Park was a great experience, as was the black sand beach. While we didn't get to see any active lava spouts (missed it by 2 days) it was still beautiful and amazing. Driving all over the island was a great opportunity to get away from some of the more touristy parts of Hawaii. The guide often makes or breaks tours like this. Drue was our guide and he was great. Very knowledgeable, personable, funny, entertaining, and most importantly, passionate about everything he talked about. He clearly enjoys what he does and it shows.
Our guide Henry was excellent. He did is best with a less than an exciting group. He was a wealth of information and took us to the best sites on the island. After the tour if we had more time on the island I know we would have visited more areas again.
Todd was our driver and guide on this tour of the big island of Hawaii. He asked each of us about our personal situation and goals for the tour at the beginning of our trip. He told us about his background and life experiences, which came into play as we viewed the sites along the drive around the island. Although not a native Hawaiian, he knew the language and culture enough to be able to explain history and pronounce the words. He was knowledgeable about geography, history, plants, volcanos and astronomy. He accommodated all our needs.
Derek did an amazing job. Not only did he give us the history of Hawaii, and the areas we visited. He was very knowledgeable about native and commercialized plants brought to the island for agriculture. Additionally, his knowledge of volcanic activity and environment was really interesting. Derek went out of his way to make sure everybody had anything they might need for lunch lunches, snacks, and drinks. He provided jackets for night sky viewing. And had a tremendous amount of knowledge about astronomy as well. All in all he covered all sorts of information that we shared with those we were traveling with well into our vacation. I would highly recommend!
Todd is the best guide in the world. He is patient, knowledgeable and responsible. He look after every one in the tour and tried his best to make everyone happy. The tour ends at mid night and Todd entertain the group for almost 15 hours! He took us to all places and even some secret places we have never heard before. Would definitely recommend Todd to anyone who might visit Big Island in the future.
I can see why our guide got 5 stars consistently. Dreu was amazing. I was traveling on my own but he made us all feel like a group. He was very knowledgeable and I loved that he was so respectful of the environment and culture. He went out of his way to make us comfortable and relaxed. We didn’t have a good night for stargazing but we got some in. But he backtracked after dinner at dusk so we can see the volcano activity. Wonderful trip. Highly recommended if you’re short on days and want to get a taste of Kona-Dreu is your man
This tour was the highlight of my trip! We had a group of 7 family and friends that were in Hawaii to celebrate my mom’s 70th birthday. Our tour guide Jason was friendly, knowledgeable and informative. The itinerary included so many wonderful stops but I especially appreciated that they took us back into the volcanoes national park at twilight! If you are considering this tour, do it. I highly recommend!
It is a long day, but filled with great experiences. Ample time at the various stops along the way. Good meals. Aaron was very knowledgeable about the stops and the island of Hawaii in general. Kilauea did not cooperate to give us a lava fountain but the return at twilight to see the glowing lava was special! The stargazing portion was informative as well.
We went on the full day twilight tour and had a great time. If you have the chance to go, do it, it’s a great way to see the variety the island has to offer. Big shoutout to Derek, he’s the best in the business. Super knowledgeable and goes out of his way to make sure you are enjoying yourself. Definitely pack warmer clothes, the stargazing can be a bit chilly without them!
What a great time my wife and I had on our tour, Our tour guide was very friendly and informative., Be prepared for a long adventure, The tour company thought of everything from bottled water to windbreakers and jackets
