Semi-private Surf Lesson At Kalama Park In Kihei

The kids had a great time surfing. Ben was an excellent instructor. They even learned tricks on the second day surfing.

My kids loved their first surf lesson! Their instructor, Eddie, gave them enough instruction without overwhelming them. He helped my daughter who had a tough time standing on her board, and gave her the confidence to overcome her worries. She loved it and wants to surf again! It was fun to watch hime surf as well as he's super talented! I had two issues: 1) it was super crowded in the water with tons of lessons at the same time. It felt unsafe and should really be regulated. I know these companies want to make money, but it's too much and a serious injury waiting to happen. 2) our lesson ended a half-hour earlier than it was scheduled to...my kids seemed tired, so I didn't push it, but would have been nice to get a refund or some explanation.

Excellent experience! From the moment we walked in the door the entire staff made us feel welcome! The instructors are amazing and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable before getting in the water. If you’re ever considering surf lessons we highly recommend going here! Can’t wait to come back to Maui to surf again as our entire party learned in just one lesson.

Highly recommend and would definitely use again we did semi private lesson for my 10 and 13 year old and also the private at the same time for my 6 year old the booking and checkin process was easy their instructors Dillon and Josh were great and they had the best time the asked to do it again the next day! They all caught waves and said the instructors were fun and helpful! Checkin provided a rash guard and surf shoes and I felt like the price for 2 hours was more than reasonable! Will definitely use again the next time we are back!

Such a great experience! I did the surf lesson with my two boys (13 and 15), and Noa was an awesome instructor. He was patient, calm and soft-spoken, but also really effective at explaining what to do and helping each of us get the hang of it. By the end, all three of us had managed to get up and ride several waves! We had so much fun and felt really comfortable with Noa the entire time. Definitely one of the highlights of our Maui trip and something we’ll all remember. Highly recommend!

Great experience for our older teenagers who had their first surf lesson with Dylan. They got plenty of time in the sea and really liked Dylan’s style.

Our instructor was more interested in being a comedian than teaching us how to surf. I think he goes by the name of "surf daddy" or something. For starters he called us over for a "safety briefing", didn't introduce himself or even ask us our names, and then, told a bunch of recycled jokes, and our safety guide consisted of us respecting mother nature. Not what to do if you fall off the board, not how to sit down on the board at the end of a ride, not how to avoid rocks, etc. Then his total "instruction" consisted of a three minute land lesson where he told us to get onto our knees first, then our feet, and then said let's hit the water. The instructor next to us did a 15-20 minute land lesson. We could have literally learned what he taught us with a five minute Youtube video. Then on the water, when we asked him if he could give us some pointers on how to stay on the board, his only answer was to "try slowing down". That was it. And while we were trying to surf, he kept looking out at the real surfers further out in the ocean and hooting and hollering for people who were surfing well, without even paying attention to us. Keep in mind that small kids will easily get up on a board because they are so light, so if that's what you are trying to accomplish, I suggest saving hundreds of dollars by watching some Youtube videos, rent a couple of boards for them, and then have an adult stand in the surf and push them forward when the waves come through. It's not rocket science for sure as we learned the hard way. I'm sure this company is good at what they do, but just make sure you ask for an instructor that is anyone but this guy. The other instructors were definitely more dialed in and paying attention to their clients. And for what it's worth, I offer this review as someone who has travelled the world and done countless lessons with locals, and understand the difference between someone who is good at their job and one that is not.

Had a great time first time surfing. We all got up on the boards, the instructor was very helpful and went at our pace. It was quite breezy so hard work paddling but the water is nice and shallow so you can walk out a fair way to save energy. Great bonus being able to have the boards until 3pm to practice on your own after but 2 hours was enough for us. Photos were really great and we felt reasonably priced for the quality.

Because i booked with trip advisor, they didn’t provide the name of the surf school so it was a challenge to locate and we ended up being late. The private lesson was great but the ocean was so crowded that it dampened the experience

Our Teen G’Daughters Absolutely Loved These Surf Lessons and Their Guide! He was extremely kind , patient and knowledgeable being a Surfer himself for more than 20 years! This is a must do for any age when visiting Maui!! They also offer pictures for purchase which are amazing as well!

Amazing, and tons of fun. Our instructor, Noah, gave easy-to-follow instructions, and he was patient, funny, and all-around enjoyable throughout. Waves could get crowded at times, and there was lots of falling while trying to catch waves (there are rocks in the area), but being able to ride waves by the end of the lesson was a trip highlight!

We loved having our own instructor for the two of us. Knowledgeable, easy to follow; he knew the good spots. We both got up on the first try! Go early in the morning before wind picks up.

We cannot recommend this enough! We have young kids and Zoom and Koa were absolutely incredible with our family. Our five year-old caught 15 waves, half of them by herself. We learned a lot, had a blast, and were completely safe the entire time. We HIGHLY recommend!

This is our second time using Maui Waveriders, and their lessons once again were top notch. Our surf instructor Wavedaddy was friendly and provided excellent two hour surf lessons for my wife and son. There were few other surfers so the beach wasn’t crowded, and the waves were all a nice medium size. He even gave me his surf shoes so I could take my daughter out alongside my wife/son’s lessons. The price was reasonable compared to many other surf schools, and it was well worth it. We’ll be coming here again!

Got surf lessons for my 12 year old nieces and they loved it!! The best part of their trip they said! Process was easy to book and even easier in person. With it being their first time surfing, the girls were nervous but their instructor made them feel safe and confident and they did great! They have a photographer there too that takes pictures for you to purchase if you want. Easy to sit at the park and watch them catch waves. Great experience all around!! Thank you!!

This was easily one of our favorite experiences on Maui. We have a family of 6 so it was nice to have a lesson all together. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our instructor “Wave Daddy” was a fantastic teacher and our kids had a blast learning to surf. The cove was a perfect spot for beginners. The pictures from the experience turned out awesome too. I would highly recommend this company anyone looking for some fun on your vacation.

We had an excellent experience with Maui Waveriders. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. Our instructor, Andrew, was phenomenal! He made it his mission that we stood on our boards and surfed! To our surprise, photos of us surfing were available for purchase at the end of the lesson!

Our family of 3 had a great experience with Keppa. He was so encouraging and positive. The location was perfect for beginners, though a little crowded. The surf shop was just across the street, so easy to carry equipment and make the most of our time. Bonus that Kihei food oasis is just a few blocks away for lunch afterwards.

Jeton was a great instructor and made the lesson even more fun than learning to surf already was. Would highly recommend this if you are looking to learn surfing!

Our daughters (13 & 15) had their first surf lesson with Kai at Maui Wave Riders in Kihei, and it was fantastic! The location was perfect with gentle morning waves, and by the end they earned certificates, hats, and great photos. Highly recommend Kai and the team.

We had a wonderful surf lesson with our very friendly instructor. It was the first time my kids (ages 9 and 12) surfed - they both enjoyed it and were able to catch several waves. The location in Kihei was ideal and the morning session had good waves. At the end, we got certificates, hats and many memorable photos. Highly recommend Maui Waveriders for surfing lessons in Maui!

My two young daughters, ages 11 and 8 surfed for the first time ever a couple days ago with Kazuma, who came highly recommended by our family friend, Ina. He was terrific! Fun, patient, and got the girls up and riding waves as if they’ve been doing it their whole lives! Thank you for making their first surf experience, their favorite experience of their vacation!

My nephews who are in their 20s and 30s and my granddaughter who is 13 all went on this adventure. They had a blast! We were able to watch from the beach area and swim too. Even though they looked like they were far out, it wasn't that deep so you didn't have to wear a life jacket when learning. Highly recommend this activity!

The 3 of us had a great experience. Easy check in, close by beach entry, very nice instructor, Jayden. We enjoyed the free dental for the rest of the day, working on our surfing skills.

Two teenagegirls aged 14 and 17 went out with Kepa and had so much fun we booked another lesson a few days later. Having never surfed before we were quite amazed to see both girls get up on the board in the first attempt - with broad smiles on their faces. Super friendly and caring staff, and all instructors were super engaged. The girls had a lot of photos taking by a photographer associated with Maui Waveriders and the pictures were awesome and we bought them as an extra memory. Nice gear and a good quiet beach for first timers. Go only in the morning to have it less crowded. Kepa rocked!

Our surf coach Eddie was amazing and gave my daughter and I the basics to get up on the surfboard. We both got up very quickly out in the water and had an amazing day riding the waves. I would highly recommend Maui Waveriders for your surf lesson.

My children had 2 instructors this past week. Al was working with my 9yo and Kazooma was with my 15 & 18yo, and they had the best time. They got them up on tons of runs. My kids won’t stop talking about it. Another bonus of the lessons were use of the boards for the day!

This was such a fun experience! This was the first time my husband and I were trying surfing. Collin was a great teacher and got us up on waves each time we went out. He offered tips and challenges to give us a memorable experience, and to allow us to succeed. We would recommend this to anyone visiting the area!

We had THE BEST experience learning to surf with May Wave Riders. Our instructor was Kazuma and all five of us got up multiple times. It wasn't just a great lesson, it was such a zen experience. He had a very calming effect and made everyone feel so relaxed and confident which took the fear and nerves away. We definitely recommend them! They have a great system and provide all the appropriate gear to help you succeed!

What a lovely family water activity! So much cheering and positive spirit from our coach, Eddie - everyone had a blast. We will be back!!

The first day we went at 11:30 am. The waves were choppy but both kids got up and rode waves in (one an over-exuberant 8 yo and the other a reluctant 15 yo). They learned good basics. The 2nd day we came at 9 am on the advice of the instructors. The waves were much more orderly and calm. The kids had many successful rides to shore. Kudos to both instructors, Kepo and Collin, for dealing with both personalities.

If you’re at all considering surf lessons, you can’t go wrong with MWR in Kihei! They are such an honest business that puts the customer experience first. We had excellent training sessions with two different instructors Noah and Andrew! Both were super personable, patient and helpful coaches. Special thanks to Noah for rescheduling for us early in the morning. Such good people! You will have a blast learning with the Maui Wave Riders!!!

We had a blast learning how to surf with Maui Waveriders! It was our first time surfing and our instructor Gitan was super helpful and made it easy to learn!
