Wow! From the very beginning to the very end! Our driver/tour guide Travis kept us alert throughout the entire tour. His cultural background was a plus, and as he pointed out the waterfalls, we sang 🎶waterfall🎶🥰.Fresh, homemade banana bread, all of the stops were amazing! His driving skills were outstanding.
Superb... Constant history about the area. Guide knew EVERYTHING GEOLOGY, flora, fauna, and was a terrific source of information if we had gone alone, it would’ve been an interesting drive. But taking the tour made it so much better.
Fabulous trip. Uncle Joe was our guide. Being a native Hawaiian, he had so many stories and history it was amazing. He truly became ohana to us. Very long trip, but fun and memorable.
Elkay our drive/ guide and very personable guy was excellent with all adults and all kids . It was a fun day
Our Road to Hana tour was incredible and our tour guide Aukai was fantastic. He was knowledgeable, funny, patient and had the true Hawaiian spirit. Would recommend this tour!
We did the Road to Hana tour in September 2026 and it didn’t disappoint. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and gave us plenty of time to explore the black sand beach, waterfalls, etc. The drive is super windy with some blind hairpin turns, so I definitely recommend a tour for your first experience. Since someone else was driving both my husband and I could enjoy the views. Our guide would also stop along the way briefly for pictures of breathtaking scenery and views throughout the trip.
Travis was an incredible tour guide. In addition to knowing the road and each of its attractions like the back of his hand, we learned he was a certified lifeguard when he heroically saved a drowning woman’s life at the waterfall we stopped to swim at. We’re so grateful to have had him as our tour guide, the experience wouldn’t have been the same without him! The continental breakfast and hot lunch both exceeded our expectations. We also had lots of great opportunities to purchase gifts and treats along the way. Finally, we were very appreciative of Travis’s driving, which completely minimized the discomfort of the many turns and single lane bridges on the road. This tour will always be of our favorite memories on Maui!! - Young D
Great job! Careful driver and great information.
Paula was our guide and she is a plethora of history of the area and people who made the entire experience enjoyable. Pre-coordination was efficient and pick up at our hotel was on time. We never felt rushed at any of the stops and learned a little more along the way from our friendly guide. The van was stocked with water and juice, and very comfortable for an 11+ hour day.
amazing experience I highly recommend! we stopped every place we could possibly see and our Tourguide told us every bit of information and didn't leave a single thing out
The Road to Hana scam: a 12+ hour bus excursion where you don't even swim in Hana. They charge $300 per person to haul you around in a van with over 154,000 miles on it and an air conditioner that makes noise without actually cooling anything down. The itinerary makes no sense—it doesn't stop where it should and makes excessively long stops just so you buy things at tourist traps. The worst part was when they took us to eat: instead of stopping in Hana, they drove a few extra kilometers and took us to a gift shop. They made us get out under the pretense of setting up lunch while the driver moved the van forward a few meters. On that short walk, they force you to go through the tourist shop as if it were a duty-free store. When I finished eating, I asked her when we were leaving, and she told me to go take a lap around the shop while I waited. The funniest part of the trip was hearing the driver complain that there were more and more tour operators doing this route... she didn't like the competition because their easy ride was coming to an end. The drive itself is beautiful, but I recommend doing it in a rental car rather than suffering through the scam we endured.
What an extraordinary experience! So beautiful. Our guide, a Hāna native, really knew how to navigate all those turns
Paula was a wonderful driver and guide. We had considered driving this ourselves and while we could have, it was so nice to be driven by someone who narrated what we were seeing and made the whole experience feel like taking a drive with a friend. The other folks on the tour were super friendly and that also added to the experience. Highly recommend!
Paula was exceptional. Her driving was impeccable. I learned so much in such a short time. I would do it again and again.
We had a wonderful experience on our Road to Hana tour. We spent the day with Travis who not only took us safely through the Road to Hana (hugely important because the road is definitely a tricky one) but also educated and entertained us the entire day. Travis is knowledgeable, friendly and engaging. My two teenagers learned (and retained!) so much about the culture, which is invaluable and the most important reason we booked the tour. He also knew everywhere to stop and exactly where to get the best photos. We would highly recommend this tour and Travis. We appreciated all that he did for us.
Travis was an amazing guide and made this experience memorable for a lifetime!! Once in a lifetime experience- Mahalo!!!
Travis was excellent! Growing up in HĀNA enabled him to give us more of a local onsite, which was great!
Amazing Road to Hāna trip with our fantastic tour guide Paula. Highly recommend. Pick up at our hotel was smooth and from there we were whisked off for the day. Highly recommend this tour for anyone who has not seen the road to Hāna. Definitely pack water shoes so you can comfortably go in the ocean at the black sand (rock) beach as well as climb into the waterfalls for a dip. Paula gave us some great historical background as well as lots of anecdotes. This gave us a much better understanding of Maui, the culture and the history. She was a fun, thoughtful, and engaging guide for the long day. This is a must do tour when you visit Maui. This tour was the highlight of our week.
Our Road to Hana tour was an absolutely amazing experience! Travis went above and beyond to make sure everyone in our group felt comfortable, safe, and fully enjoyed the journey. He was extremely knowledgeable and shared so much helpful and interesting information throughout the tour. What made the experience even more special was his willingness to make additional stops when requested. He was patient, accommodating, and genuinely focused on making the day memorable for everyone. Travis also supported our group during our stop at the waterfall, helping us feel comfortable as some members of our group went swimming. His professionalism, kindness, and attention to detail made this one of the highlights of our trip. We are so thankful for Travis and highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Maui!
Malia was an excellent tour guide! She was funny, kind and super informative!
Dynamic Tours are wonderful, professional, family friendly, and worth every penny. John, our tour guide was amazing! Family of 6 had the best time. Road to Hana with Dynamic tour is the can’t miss experience when visiting Maui. Lifetime memories!!
I read a lot of reviews before choosing which tour guide. Our day was amazing! Our guide was Apanui, he was great! I’m just going to comment on my opinion of prior reviews. Yes it is a long day! Take snacks and water shoes! The continental breakfast was lots of fruit and muffins, in a beautiful location. For lunch, the huli huli chicken, we thought was great! Views are indescribable and so many waterfalls.
This was my second "Road to Hana" tour. I won't review the places the tour stopped at or visited. I will review the tour company and the services. Pickup was on time although they text us that morning saying the pickup would be 5-10 minutes early. While I appreciated the company’s responsiveness in honoring my special seating request, our front (first) row seats on the bus labeled "Alaka'i" had a very narrow windows that required us to strain our necks to see the views outside. I noticed that the other three Valley Isle buses on tours that day did not appear to have this issue. I provided the company feedback regarding this seating issue but have not yet received a response from the company. In our humble opinion, these seats should not be sold. My advice: to avoid the kind of disappointment we experienced, you should always ask for seat reservations and note clearly and specifically to the company that you do not want the first row seats on a bus with seating configuration like Alaka'i's. If you don't and you are picked up last, you will risk getting stuck in these seats from sunrise to sundown. Regarding the amenities, the breakfast was underwhelming, consisting only of a pre-arranged plate of a few pieces of fruit and 2 small muffins. The driver did remind us this was going to be a continental breakfast. There are many versions of continental breakfast but this one truly disappoints. Additionally, the lunch provided, though delicious, was not from the "world-famous" Huli Huli chicken location as the guide led everyone to believe; instead, the guide brought pre-packaged boxes of food from another source. (Please see similar experience from earlier reviews.) My advice: feed yourself before they pick you up or bring something more fulfilling to eat on the bus between breakfast and lunch. Finally, while our driver was incredibly knowledgeable about Maui’s culture and history, his demeanor was sometimes overbearing. He frequently called out guests for yawning or dozing off and insisted on undivided attention during his occasional politically biased historical recount. All this made part of the tour experience feel more like a classroom than a tour. He also ridiculed all the not-so-nice reviews he has received. He will probably tell you about this one, too. So buyers beware: your Valley Isle guide could be a bit too much fun for you. :-)
Driver was very knowledgeable.
MY wife and I took the Road to Hana tour, and had a very nice time. It is a very narrow, windy, twisty road, but the drive was very good. There were plenty of stops along the way to buy food, souvenirs, look at waterfalls, and to go to the bathroom. The bus is air conditioned and comfortable. My only objection was that the told us that they would pick us up at our hotel, but then notified us that we would have to meet them at another location, instead. It was not a long walk, but if you make a commitment, you should keep it. The food they provided was OK. The driver was a nice fellow, informative and kind.
This was the best tour and if you are visiting Maui, it is a must see. Kawika was our driver and an excellent host for the day! Booking was easy, we received a call the day before to confirm our plan to attend. The bus picked us up at our hotel and arrived early (we were the first stop). The bus was clean and comfortable and beverages were available throughout the trip. We had several bathroom stops and Kawika had everything we needed to accommodate our needs for those stops. We made several stops to see the scenic sites along the way. Kawika was an excellent driver and our safety was his primary concern - which was very important for me given my whole family was on the bus with me. It rained throughout the trip but that did not interfere with Kawika's safe driving or our ability to enjoy the tour. It is beautiful, so many different plants, flowers, and waterfalls!!!!! My favorite was the rainbow eucalyptus trees!!!! It is all fascinating and a beauty to behold! Kawika shared many insights about the island and Hana as he drove along the way. My other favorite part was the turtles on the beach that we saw at the end of the tour! Breakfast and lunch was good and the banana bread (warm with whipped butter) was AWESOME!!! Thank you Kawika for a wonderful Hana experience! My family and I will remember you and this Hana experience forever!!!!
We had an absolutely amazing Road to Hana experience and a huge part of that was thanks to our driver and guide, Aukai. He was friendly, knowledgeable, funny and made the whole day feel relaxed and effortless while navigating the winding roads safely. From swimming at waterfalls and seeing the incredible rainbow eucalyptus trees, to black sand beaches, turtles, stunning scenery and the famous Aunt Sandy’s banana bread — every stop felt special. Aukai shared so much local knowledge along the way and truly made the tour memorable. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Maui — an unforgettable day from start to finish! The only thing missing was a stop in Hana Town itself it was a shame we did not get the chance to experience this and take photos to add to our memories
Travis was a great guide and made the tour fun, interesting and safe! We were thankful to have him as our driver on this long journey. We made many fun stops along the way.
This was one of the highlights of our trip. The scenery was spectacular and the vista stops plentiful. Our guide, Kawika, was the star of the show, though. His knowledge of Hana, Maui, and Hawaii was vast and rich in history. What really shone through was his passion for the land, the people, the language, and the culture. All around superb!
Excellent tour guide—Malia! She is a Hana local which made it even better. Great knowledge of the landscaping, waterfalls, animals, etc! Good pacing of bathroom and snack breaks. Lunch was delicious!
do not recommend this tour at all, may be satisfying for someone who hasn't done road to hāna and just wants to go on the drive but as someone who has been this was a waste of time and money. to brief, there is a few stops and u do not have a say in where or how long. the huli huli chicken is not from the famous stand, they pick it up from the breakfast place in the morning (which was awful breakfast). the WORST part is you are under the impression you are going to the classic huli huli chicken place to get lunch, nope! the driver takes you nearly 45 mins off the route to "aunties" house and says auntie wants to meet us...who is auntie???? well it's an elder women who is selling jewelry at her house for insane prices, and now you have to stay there and eat ur knock off huli huli chicken and walk around her garden. that whole ordeal is almost a 2 hour waste of ur time. i could go on more but trust me 0/10 rip off do not recommend. do not listen to the other reviews, they have no idea how amazing the road to hāna could be if you do it right.
This was a really good tour, but be prepared for a long day! The continental breakfast was a pleasant surprise and was greatly appreciated after our early morning pickup. We loved all the stops and pass-bys and Apa provided lots of good information and fun facts. Lunch on the beach was delicious!
From pick up, to breakfast, to lunch all was fabulous. Our guide Aukai was knowledgeable, humorous and gave a personal touch for the entire trip. His love for the island was obvious and he ensured we were fully informed of our surroundings as we did the road to Hāna. We have heard Maui was a beautiful island and this tour and guide showed us all the beauty of the island.
Malia was a wonderful guide. Explained history and pointed out many plant varieties. Kept the group engaged and gave us photo stops/ slow downs. It’s a long day, 12 hours, but well worth it.
Started with great ontime pick from our hotel! Light breakfast provided at an actual working farm. Fresh baked blueberry muffin, scone and fresh fruits. Coffee and juice included. Our shuttle for this 10hr tour was clean and spacious! Driver/tori guide was Malia, who is a local of Hana. Malia well paced bathroom breaks and was an excellent/safe driver. She narrated the entire 10hr tour! Learned a lot about the rain forrest plants, waterfalls, animals, people! Lunch was picnic style and very good chicken, rice, salad. She provided a cooler of ice cold water and juices for the entire trip! We lucked out with a good group of people in our tour group. Super friendly and just nice people to talk to. So much to see—-Malia’s added touch of local knowledge was exceptional! We saw everything promised to us in the tour and MORE! The sea turtles on the beach was an amazing treat Malia included. Our tour was $300 per adult. At first, we cringed paying $600 for two of us BUT we planned to do this all day tour and her expert driving and narration was 100% worth it to us! We would NOT advise tourist to try to rent a car and do this drive on your own. The drive is actually dangerous if you are not familiar with the 1-way roads/ bridges and the very narrow edges off the cliffs.
Adam was a fabulous tour guide. He was very informative and professional. His generosity and personality made the day very eventful. He went over and above to make us very comfortable.
Request Travis, request Travis, request Travis! His personal connection to Hana and Maui as a whole added a personal touch on an already amazing day of beautiful sights, amazing food, and plenty of laughter. When he tells you to get the banana bread, get the banana bread! When you stop for shave ice, get the shave ice! When you stop at the waterfall, jump from the top! Between sights was lessons in Hawaiian language, culture, wildlife and so much more! We would not have had as memorable of a day with any other guide. Mahalo.
I did this tour with Aukai, and it was an excellent experience! While I had a rental car for my nine days on Maui, I decided to go ahead and book the Road to Hana as a guided tour, because I had heard mixed things about the drive-ability of the road. And I'm glad I did!! After seeing the road firsthand, I am confident it would've been a very different / much more stressful experience driving it myself. And I wouldn't have been able to take in the beautiful views that I got to enjoy as a passenger. Aukai also knew exactly where to slow down and stop to allow us to soak in the most beautiful views. There is no way I would've known where to be ready for an upcoming waterfall, or where to pull over to get an up-close view of the rainbow eucalyptus trees, for example. Aukai is from a town near Hana originally, and the trip that I took with him was his 571st(!) time leading a guided tour to Hana, so he knows the area extremely well. The bus also has large windows that provide for a better viewing experience than I would've gotten in my rental car. And it was fun to meet a few fellow travelers on the tour, too! All that to say, I highly recommend booking a Road to Hana tour with Valley Isle Excursions. Thanks, Aukai, for a great day!
Malia was an amazing guide. The tour began with a continental breakfast (fruit, coffee, juice and pastry), then we explored the road to Hana with amazing views. Malia grew up in Hana and was extremely knowledgeable, she taught us about the island, shared legends and help us take pictures. The lunch was delicious (Huli Huli chicken, Mac salad, greens, rice and a vegan option). Her driving is phenomenal and we felt so safe. 10/10 would definitely recommend!
My husband and I had a wonderful day with Travis on his tour van. The ride was very comfortable, the driver, Travis, was an expert driver keeping us very safe all day. His knowledge of the area and the state’s history added even more interest to the day. The food at breakfast and lunch was just right. Everything about the day was perfect! If you book with Valley Isle Excursions be sure to ask for Travis!
I had a great time. My tour guide Malia made us fell like Ohana. She was very friendly and knowledgeable. Honestly she is what made the trip. I was by myself and her and the others in the tour made me feel included.
This tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Hawaii. Our guide was friendly and very knowledgable about the native plants, animals and local culture. The views were breathtaking and lunch was delicious. We enjoyed the turtle sitings as well.
My sister and I did this tour for the road to Hana and it was the best part of our trip. Our tour guide Kawki was not only an amazing guide, but an amazing human. He was so open with our tour group, sharing his experiences and stories from growing up. It was such a refreshing experience! He helped our crew with time management so we could see as much as we could. Best part of my trip!
Dell was a great driver. So much knowledge about Hana and the rest of Hawaii. Knows the road like the back of his hand. We talked to some other hotel guest that drove themselves in a rental car and they had some tense moments. My wife was nervous but after the trip she was so glad we saw this beautiful part of Maui. Waterfalls, Beautiful views, Black sand Beach. On the way back we stopped and watched surfers and wind surfers at a public beach that also had like 50 Sea turtles just laying on the beach. Dell made it it a great day. #TEAMDELL
The road to Hana tour was beautiful very worthwhile. But our tour guide Malia took it over the top! She was a wealth of information that we could not have received had we not toured with her. Thank you Malia and Valley Island Tours for a fantastic day!
Salesi, our guide, was knowledgeable, funny and caring. We enjoyed the history and beauty of the road to Hana along with a few worthwhile surprises.
Malia was our guide and she was WONDERFUL!! Tons of information, excellent stops, fun atmosphere. Malia treats you like Ohana (family)! Smooth driving too!!
The tour was excellent. The guide who did the tour was a great guy named Travis. He did a very professional job. He knows a lot about many things.
Joe was our amazing tour driver. He had a wealth of knowledge. Valley was great to work with. Would highly recommend this trip to everyone. The sites were amazing!
