Our experience was great my wife and I really enjoyed it. The trip was the road to Hana our tour guide. Eric was very knowledgeable on the history of Hawaii. It’s culture and the people.

Itinerary
Ascend to the summit of Maui's magnificent dormant volcano for the ultimate vacation highlight at Haleakala National Park, reaching 10,023 feet above sea level in this spectacular must do on Maui experience. As one of only six permitted companies authorized to offer Haleakala tours, we provide exclusive access to witness breathtaking sunrises that have inspired visitors since the 1800s, explore the otherworldly volcanic crater landscape, and discover rare endemic silversword plants found nowhere else on Earth. This extraordinary Haleakala National Park adventure combines stunning volcanic vistas, unique high-altitude ecosystems, and the unforgettable experience of standing atop Maui's sacred volcano, making it an essential vacation highlight that showcases the raw natural power and beauty that defines the Hawaiian Islands.
The magnificent Haleakala Crater is an awe-inspiring geological wonder that stretches 11.25 miles across, 3.2 miles wide, and plunges nearly 2,600 feet deep, creating one of the world's most spectacular volcanic landscapes. The Pa Ka'oao Trail (also known as White Hill Trail) is a short 0.4-mile hike that starts at the visitor center and leads to an elevated overlook offering breathtaking views of the crater floor. This mini hike is just half a mile and well worth the effort, providing visitors with an exceptional vantage point to truly appreciate the massive scale and otherworldly beauty of the crater. The views from atop this conical mound are significantly better than those from the visitor center, making it an ideal way for tour guests to experience the raw volcanic power and stark beauty that defines Haleakala's "house of the sun" landscape.
Dubbed "Science City," the Haleakalā High Altitude Observatory was erected in 1958 due to the optimal viewing conditions the shield volcano possesses, where a near-absence of light pollution, as well as the high-altitude air and height, render it one of the most superb and valuable planetariums in the world. The Haleakalā Observatory, also known as the Haleakalā High Altitude Observatory Site, is Hawaii's first astronomical research observatory and spans 18 acres at 10,000 feet above sea level, operated and managed by the University of Hawaii. While visitors can view the observatory complex from the Haleakala Summit and visitor center, the facility itself is dedicated to groundbreaking astronomical research that continues to advance our understanding of the universe from this pristine high-altitude location.
Ho'okipa Beach Park, meaning "hospitality" in Hawaiian, is one of the most spectacular stops on your Road to Hana adventure, renowned worldwide as the birthplace of modern windsurfing where professional athletes perform incredible aerial maneuvers in consistent trade winds. Located just east of historic Paia town, this stunning crescent beach offers dramatic coastal views and is famous as one of Maui's most reliable locations to observe Hawaiian green sea turtles (honu) basking peacefully on the warm golden sand. The combination of world-class windsurfing action, magnificent turtle viewing opportunities, and breathtaking natural beauty makes Ho'okipa Beach Park an essential highlight of any Road to Hana tour, perfectly embodying the natural wonder and adventure spirit that makes this legendary Road to Hana journey so unforgettable.
Along your Road to Hana journey, you'll witness spectacular waterfall walls , creating breathtaking natural displays that showcase Maui's incredible rainfall and tropical beauty. These stunning roadside waterfall features become especially magnificent after heavy rains, when multiple streams transform rock walls into flowing curtains of water that demonstrate the raw power and beauty of Maui's rainforest environment. These impressive waterfall walls along the Road to Hana offer incredible photo opportunities and remind visitors why this legendary coastal drive is considered one of the world's most scenic waterfall adventures.
One of the most breathtaking Maui vacation highlights along your Road to Hana adventure is the stunning Rainbow Eucalyptus forest, where nature creates its own masterpiece through trees with extraordinary multicolored bark that naturally peels to reveal vibrant layers of green, orange, red, purple, and yellow. Located near mile marker 7, this spectacular "Painted Forest" is a must do on Maui photo opportunity that you'll experience right from your vehicle window as we cruise along the Hana Highway, offering incredible roadside views of these Southeast Asian trees that have thrived in Maui's tropical rainforest climate. This magical Road to Hana highlight perfectly captures the natural artistry and wonder that makes this legendary coastal drive one of the world's most scenic adventures.
Along your Road to Hana journey near mile marker 6.7, you'll witness the spectacular Na'ili'ili-Haele Bamboo forest, where towering bamboo stalks create a dramatic natural cathedral effect showcasing Maui's incredible tropical vegetation. This stunning bamboo forest displays incredibly dense bamboo growth reaching skyward to form an otherworldly green tunnel, demonstrating how perfectly these plants have adapted to Maui's tropical rainforest climate. As you pass this magnificent bamboo forest along the Road to Hana, you'll experience one of nature's most impressive displays of how constant moisture and rich volcanic soil create perfect conditions for these remarkable bamboo groves to flourish.
The dramatic Keanae Peninsula represents a true Maui vacation highlight and must experience on Maui, where a spectacular half-mile finger of ancient lava extends into the Pacific Ocean, creating one of the most scenic and culturally significant stops along your Road to Hana journey. This authentic Hawaiian village showcases traditional taro fields still cultivated by local families, offering visitors a rare glimpse into genuine Hawaiian rural island life that has remained unchanged for generations. As you explore the peninsula, you'll discover the historic Lanakila Ihiihi O Iehova O na Kaua Congregational Church built in 1860, surrounded by dramatic black lava rock formations and flourishing taro fields that demonstrate the deep connection between Hawaiian culture and the land, making this Road to Hana stop an essential cultural and scenic experience that captures the true spirit of old Hawaii. You will also get the chance to purchase Aunty Sandy's famous banana bread!
Stop to get delicious Banana bread, coffee, and/or food.
As your Road to Hana adventure unfolds, you'll pass two stunning waterfalls that showcase Maui's natural beauty. First, witness the picturesque Waikane Falls (also known as Three Bears Falls) visible right from the Hana Highway between mile markers 19 and 20. Further along your journey, you'll encounter the impressive Pua'a Ka'a Falls located at mile marker 22.5 within the lush Pua'a Ka'a State Wayside Park. This ultra-green park features a pair of falls cascading into pools, creating a tropical paradise that epitomizes the Road to Hana experience. Both waterfall locations offer guests perfect glimpses of Maui's cascading waters and dense rainforest landscape, making them some of the most photographed spots along this iconic scenic drive. Great day w/Bryan. Weather was pretty wet but still a beautiful drive. Very informative and fun day!
This all day tour was a good way to see several different aspects of Maui. The barren landscape of Haleakala was quite a surprise but beautiful in its own way. The drive through the rainforest was quite a thrill. The hairpin turns and one lane bridges certainly kept our attention. The lush landscape and many waterfalls were gorgeous. Lunch had limited options but was adequate. The opportunity to swim was actually a small swimming hole with a slightly muddy access. We were glad we did not bother with swimsuits. Pick up was as expected, without a glitch. Bryan, our guide, did a great job maneuvering the narrow roadways. He was very knowledgeable about the history of Haleakala, the vegetation, and Hawaiian culture. He offered a great variety of snacks and beverages & exhibited concern for everyone’s welfare regarding possible altitude issues as well as motion sickness on those hairpin turns. He shared a lot about himself…maybe a little too much. Overall, we enjoyed this tour very much. I would definitely recommend doing the half tour unless you have a strong desire to see Hana.
Our tour was exactly what we wanted: a small group, visit to Haleakala National Park and experiencing a 1/2 portion of the Road to Hana. Our driver and tour guide Bryan was very personable and also knowledgeable about the flora and fauna, Hawaiian culture and geography as well as very engaging, sharing about his own life experiences in addition to advice for viewing beautiful vistas both on and off the van.. ( which was extremely comfortable and well kept!) He took great care of us for the day, providing snacks and drinks, advice to prevent motion and altitude sickness and was a wonderfully experienced and safe driver on lots of hairpin turns. Would highly recommend this day tour. NOTE: this tour deserves a 5• rating, but on several occasions Bryan attempted to engage group members with his own political views, which we felt was inappropriate. Opinions about specific politics or religious beliefs is always a NO!
Great experience! You see lots of sights along the way with knowledgeable information. Leave the driving to Chad...he's a pro!
Great tour- very scenic and informative. We enjoyed ourselves and learned a lot about Maui. Bryan was an awesome guide.
Very informative & interesting. Had a great time with Chad. He had food & drinks & rain ponchos if needed.
So glad I chose the tour versus driving on my own. Full day of experiences with our tour guide, Bryan, whose knowledge of the area and history of Hawaii made the trip more memorable and meaningful. Plenty of picture opportunities, exploration at the various stops and very comfortable transportation. Recommend!
Chase was a great guide, gave great information, and "sidebar" info. The length of the tour was appropriate and exceeded our expectations.
Great trip to Hana. Unfortunately didn’t get to see the Crater at Haleakala due to heavy clouds. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and great driver.
Great excursion to Haleakalā National Park. I would have liked a little more time there but realize there is a schedule to keep. Halfway to Hana was good. The roads are quite windy and halfway was enough for us. However, the entire length of this excursion was 2 hrs more than anticipated. Said we would return around 5 and we returned at 7. Bryan was super nice and knowledgeable. However, he swore several times and did one off color joke that we felt was inappropriate since there was a girl about the age of 12 or 13 on this tour. We made an unexpected stop which was unnecessary due to a road closure. However, Bryan lives on the island and I would have thought he would have checked for road closures prior to starting out for the day. This made for an exceptionally long day and we missed the only night we could watch sunset because he dropped everyone else off in the order they were picked up except for us. He dropped us last. I was a bit unhappy with this.
This was the most perfect combination of Haleakala and Road To Hana. Our tour guide Chad was AMAZING!! We could not have had a better time!!! Chad was friendly and knowledgeable. The trip was such a good experience for my 3 teenagers, my husband and myself. If there’s any question what tour to book for your family I’d do this tour 100x again!
We had an absolutely amazing day with Chad on the tour! He was very informative and made sure we were comfortable, had snacks and drinks and many restroom breaks throughout! We especially loved our stop at the Crater and the waterfalls were beautiful too. We were even lucky enough to be the only family on the tour and have a private experience! Highly recommend this trip, it’s once in a lifetime and you’ll be lucky if you get Chad as the tour guide.
Our tour was phenomenal! Bryan was an excellent tour guide who made the whole experience incredibly fun and informative. We learned a lot about Maui and its history, as well as Hawai'i as a whole! He kept the tour engaging and we never got bored. Views were beautiful and we got plenty of time at each spot. Would recommend!
Great experience! The road to Hana was beautiful! All the lookout spots were amazing. The National Park was amazing as well. Being in the clouds, the experience was breath taking!
We are on a family trip to Maui and did this tour yesterday. This trip is a mixture of repeat visitors and first time visitors. We loved this option of seeing two of the biggest sites in one trip. As a party of 10 we chose to do a private tour. Eric was our tour guide and he was absoulutely fabulous from start to finish! We loved spending the time together as a family since we had ventured from around the country. We were able to customize our day and go at our own pace. Eric was extremely knowlegeable about the island and our journey. He was able to answer all questions and for those of us who had been before, he was able to explain some of the changes that we were seeing compared to our prior trip. Having someone else to navigate the road to Hana is always a win! Doing the private tour allowed us to fellowship with one another and just sit back and enjoy the scenery and his Hawaiian playlist. The van was clean, spacious, and well maintained. The stash of snacks and beverages kept us fueled up for our day. The day was perfect and we would recommend this trip, and Eric, hands down! It was money and time well spent and it will surely be the highlight of our time together here in Maui.
Our driver/tour guide Chad was very knowledgeable and friendly. He provided amazing services! We would love to refer friends to join this tour.
Eric was our tour guide/driver and he did a fabulous job narrating the excursion and taking us to all the sites and restaurants. Eric offered flexibility regarding stops and time allotment and we had a wonderful day on our Road to Hana excursion!
Our guide Eric was very informative and was very safe on the roads
The tour was great but not as spectacular as I expected. However, the driver/tour guide was wonderful. I would give Chase an “A+”. He was wonderful and very knowledgeable.
Bryan was awesome and very throughal. We enjoyed our tour. Didn't really like the half way to hana lunch stop. He needs to try the place up the road from there. Wish it wasn't a cloudy rainy day when we went.
Great trip to the national park. Tour guide gave a lot of information about the sites and the culture
Great trip to the top of Haleakala National Park, took my breath away figuratively and literally. Road halfway to Hana was beautiful and educational although I may have learned more than I wanted to know about Taylor Swift… the Rainbow Eucalyptus trees were so unique and beautiful. Our guide Bryan knew his stuff. Great day in Maui!!
Bryan was amazing!! He made the whole adventure fun, comfortable, and super informative in the funniest way! Highly recommend if you are staying in Maui! Highlight of our trip 100%!!! CANT EMPHASIZE HOW AMAZING BRYAN WAS!!! Book it!
Bryan did a tremendous job keeping us entertained, informed, and fed throughout our day together. I appreciated hearing about life on the island from a local perspective, all while sitting back and letting someone else navigate the narrow, winding roads.
We all had a great time. Chad is truly an amazing guy and he really knows his stuff. I was feeling anxious before the trip because I was afraid of motion sickness, but Chad took the time to make me feel reassured. He said he'd let me sit up front if needed, as well he had ginger tablets, and he can always go slow or stop for a bit. With his help, I had the confidence to go for it. And I was able to have a great excursion. Plus it was nice seeing so much of Maui in one day. The trip gets better with time, as we all continue to process everything we saw. It was a great adventure, and I highly recommend it if you want to see the mountain and the coast in one day. If you have a desire to do an excursion, I think this is the one for you. Or as Chad would say, "If can, can!" :)
Trip was very enjoyable. Our tour guide Chase was very knowledgeable and a lot of fun. So glad we did this tour rather than drive ourself. The snacks and drinks were perfect.
This was a very thoughtful and thorough tour. Chad was highly knowledgeable and provided lots of interesting information throughout the day about the tour sites.
Beautiful experience and plenty to see. I would recommend this tour for anyone who wants to see the best of maui
This was a very long day, which was expected. We got to see lots of Haleakala and most of the beauty of the Road to Hana, half-way, Guide was knowledgeable and loved the small group. Would recommend, especially if you want to take a day to see the highlights instead of 2! Highly recommend!
Very nice and balanced whole day tour On the road to Hana. pick up at hotel with wel equipped Van with drinks and refreshments. Our tourguide (chad) told a lot about surrounding vegetation and history nice atmosphere and certainly recommended value for money!
Really loved this tour - I had limited time to explore Maui, so I was happy to find a tour that lets you both experience some of the Road to Hana, and to get to see Haleakala National Park. Chad was a great guide, providing history and anecdotes at the different viewpoints and stops along the way and did a great job letting us know how much time we had at each location, and which was the best area to spend our time. The van is very comfortable, air conditioned and is outfitted with giant, clean windows so you can see the great views on both sides. There were several snack and drink options provided and he also had ginger candies for those who may get car sick from the turns. Really loved all the stops and the long, winding drive. You'll have a chance to stop in the visitors center at the national park, and there's a roadside shop you stop at where you can get banana bread or a sandwich halfway through the tour. He also lets you know when the bathroom stops will be, and makes sure everyone is comfortable and has what they need along the way. Would definitely recommend this tour!
Awesome experience! Highly recommend! We have told our friends it's a must do while visiting Maui. Chase was an awesome guide as well.
Our guide did a good job. However, we skipped a stop at the observatory without any explanation. We started at about 9 am and finished at about 4.30 pm. So there should be enough time to make the stop. Otherwise, it was a fine trip.
Very organized and well run tour. Our guide Chase texted us with exact instructions and was right on time to meet us at the harbor. The Mercedes van was very comfortable and they provided a cooler full of snacks and drinks for the whole trip- our little group of eight was well provided for. Chase gave us a wealth of information about all the sights and was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of Hawaii and the flora and fauna on the island. The trip to the top of the Haleakala National Park was amazing and the waterfalls and views of the rain forest along the road to Hana were also impressive. There is an opportunity to swim in one of the waterfalls- none of us chose to but Chase jumped in from the summit- probably 40 feet- that was entertaining as well. Our final stop showed us an amazing collection of sea turtles sunning themselves on a beach. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience and Chase was a wonderful guide.
We went in a van with Chase as our guide. There were five of us, including 3 people picked up at different resorts and a couple from the cruise. Chase was fantastic - very personable, patient, full of knowledge, cheery in his disposition and just the nicest guy to have around. We weren't in the rush and Chase was generous with the time at different stops. We walked around the National Park stops as well as the top 0.25 mile trail in Haleakala in comfortable weather and didn't have to get up at an ugly morning hours or freeze at sunrise. We then proceeded to Hana and covered about 60% of the road. It was more than enough to experience all the major highlights, have a fantastic commentary, stop for lunch & get some sandwiches and hot food, and later have a swim and go back to the hotel. It was a long - 7:30 to 5 but so rewarding day! I am so glad to do it with Chase.
Amazing trip! Chase and Daniel were amazing. They made the trip fun and interesting. They made sure we were safe and comfortable. All snacks and drinks were provided. The van was clean and professional driven. Do not Hesitate to take this trip. Chase and Daniel are huge assets for this company. They are professionals in everything they do and say. This is a wonderful trip.
We did this tour with Chase and Daniel. Don't think twice or look for other options. Book it and you will have a remarkable, memorable and OUTSTANDING trip. From the skilled driving over the entire trip, to the narration, to the time allotted for each stop, this tour was picture perfect. I wasted hours looking for others. We arrived on port on the NCL cruise. The logistics were as smooth as the experience. Chase and Daniel's care made sure we all got the absolute best out of the day including guiding us thru the slippery waterfall rocks. The sunset at the north shore was the perfect way to end an unforgettable day
It was nice not having to drive the Road to Hana ourselves. Chase and Daniel picked us up on time, provided snacks and water, were very friendly, informative and helpful…like when our son threw up during the trip. Speaking of which, use the Hana tonic preventatively…it really works for motion sickness that comes with all the twists and turns of this drive.
We had an amazing experience on the Halfway to Hana and National Park visit! Every stop along the way was incredibly beautiful — lush landscapes, scenic waterfalls, and peaceful trails made it all unforgettable. The weather this time of year gave us the perfect mix of sunshine and light rain, which not only kept everything feeling fresh and tropical but also created the perfect conditions for taking stunning photos. The light rain brought out the vibrant colors in the scenery, and the sun would peek through at just the right moments. Throughout the trip, the weather stayed warm and pleasant, making the entire experience feel like the perfect tropical escape. Highly recommend this trip to anyone looking to explore the natural beauty of Maui in a relaxed and scenic way!
We had the best, knowledgeable and patient tour guide who provided us a true experience of road to Hāna and we are forever grateful for this opportunity and ultimately we all felt so safe as first time in Hawaii.
The driver is perfect!! The reason I am not satisfied is that the tour does not match the description online. The title of the tour is "Road to Hana Halfway and Haleakala National Park", however, we only went to Road to Hana and didn't go to Haleakala National Park at all. For those who are expecting Haleakala National Park, I strongly don't recommend this tour.
This is a fantastic tour. You ride in a very comfortable 11 passenger van. Our tour guide Shelly was amazing. She is lifelong resident of Maui and was very informative with cultural history and entertaining facts about the places along the road. Very safe journey with Shelly driving. We were provided with lots of snacks and drinks. Even included stop for coffee and banana bread. We hiked/swam at beach park. Lunch was salad and fresh made pizza. Delicious. Very beautiful drive through rain forest. Roads are very curvy so may need anti nausea meds if prone to motion sickness. Highly recommend this tour. Company is good with communication and arrive on time
This was a great way to see and do lots and maximize time on vacation and see the beauty Hawaii has to offer. 🌊
Awesome experience with Chad. Very knowledgeable and fun. Made sure we were always comfortable, safe, and got the most out of every scenic site.
Took our extended family of 11 (7 adults, 4 kids ages 3-6) on this full day trip exploring Maui. Our guide was super flexible, doing Haleakala first due to weather, and letting us spend some extra time in the national park to do 2 short hikes. We did the road halfway to Hana and were super grateful our driver knew the road so well! He pointed out all the best views, took us to a great spot for lunch, and ended with a waterfall we could jump off of into a deep pool. A ton of snacks and drinks were provided, which was great with the number of kids we had. We learned a ton about the island - educational in a fun way! If you have ever experienced any motion sickness, I'd suggest Dramamine before the road to Hana - it is VERY winding. Also, if you have any food allergies, pack a lunch or extra snacks, as there are limited options at the lunch spot.
Really great tour with Eric. He was parked nearly first at the dock and loaded with snacks, water and juice. He was knowledgeable, friendly and a local resident of Maui. He became the 12th member of our group (7 adults and 4 kids). We started at the National park, drove up up up and hiked up to the summit above the crater, hit the 360 view building and both visitors centers. Since we had some birders in the group, Eric suggested and took us to the Horner Grove area. Then we headed to the Road to Hana. Eric is an expert navigating that twisty and turny beast. It is beautiful and while no one ( including the kids) got sick, I am surprised we didn't. We had plenty of planned bathroom breaks and lunch at the "halfway to Hana stand" After that we made it to Pua'a Ka'a Falls. Eric showed us( personally) how and where to cliff jump (25+ft). Stepping off was exhilarating and the water was refreshing. I am glad this tour didn't go any further... that road does take a toll on your tummy. This was a full day tour. We learned a lot about history, culture and facts along the way and also had time for quiet (kid napping) with soft music. Really great adventure. Thanks Aloha Eco and thanks Eric
