Peter was an awesome instructor and made the entire experience incredibly enjoyable. His expertise was the perfect balance of not overwhelming you with too much information, while still giving exactly the right tips and guidance to improve quickly. He helped me understand how to properly stand, balance, and position myself on the board, and thanks to his coaching I was able to catch a few successful waves. The lesson felt encouraging, relaxed, and fun the entire time. You can't beat the beautiful location too! Highly recommend for anyone wanting to learn or improve their surfing while actually enjoying the experience! :)

Peter was the perfect instructor for our 9 year old grandson. He was patient and kind. Our grandson was able to stand up, caught several good waves and wants to surf again!

Good explaining, nice people, great experience for beginning surfers. The movie in the beginning is a fine way to learn fast!

Super easy check-in at the office. You watch a quick water safety video, and they go over all the lesson options—group, private, or tandem. The instructors help you figure out what’s best for you. It’s only a quick 2-minute walk to the surf spot, and they already have the boards waiting. Another short paddle out and you’re good to go. All the instructors are awesome. We love Kalei and Niko, and Charlie is my favorite!

My 13yo son and 9yo daughter got private surf lessons from Luis and Charley. They had an absolutely fantastic time. It was their first time surfing and they are hooked, especially my daughter. She wanted to go back again the next day. Do not miss the photos. While we thought we could just take some videos from the pier, which we did, those drone photos and videos are something else. Totally worth it!

I booked a private lesson on an impulse at short notice. I went directly to the shop (round the corner from my accommodation) to book. Since I was travelling alone, was a beginner surfer and am older, meeting the staff gave me a better feel for the company than just checking out the website. They were super friendly and approachable and dealt with my questions and booking quickly and efficiently. The shop has long-sleeved tops and 'river' shoes for customers to borrow for lessons. After a short intro video, they then took me down to the waterfront (ca. 5 min walk) to meet my instructor, Gavin. The lesson was so much fun with clear instructions, tips and support, as required, with manoeuvring the surf board as it can get tiring paddling out to the waves repeatedly. Gavin was very friendly and positive so that I felt at ease, gaining confidence to follow through with his clear instructions. He found the right balance between leaving the learner to do everything for themselves and giving a hand so that the learner doesn't end up exhausted early on in the lesson. All in all, a fabulous experience!

I have been surfing for awhile but wanted some tips for how to get to the next level. I surfed with Sergio and he was fantastic- pointing out technique gaps that I would never have found on my own. Definitely recommend. Off to North Shore tomorrow!!!

My son had an amazing time with his instructor Chris. The whole crew made sure that we had the best time out there on the waves. They had patience and compassion for a first timer and it showed. Highly recommend. Worth every penny.

We had 2hours private class for my teens today. 30mins orientation and 30mins waking . Kids only take an hour class. The most unbearable thing is that my child was pushed into the water by a student taking a group class during class, and was still frightened out of wits. Moreover, the coach of the group class shouted and scolded loudly at her. My daughter is still very sad up to now. Attending such a school is simply a waste of time and money. definitely not recommended.

Absolutely worth every penny! Highly recommend! Sergio was the BEST! Taught my 8 year old grandson to surf and now is HOOKED! Everyone at Hans Hedemann are kind and very professional. Felt extremely safe leaving my grandson in their hands!

We would highly recommend Hans Hedemann Surf School! Our children are 11 and 13 and neither have much experience surfing. They both had an incredible experience and caught more waves than they could count. The instructors were fantastic, fun and super encouraging!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! We did a different surf school the last time here…don’t do that….use these guys. This was a great experience we did 2 days my 10yo had so much fun. The drone pic package is WAY WORTH IT! 🙏🏽💪🏽❤️🏝️

I saw the waves at the North Shore for the first time and I had an urge to catch some waves. I bought a private lesson to have another person go out with me that knew the area. I am new to surfing and I did not want to piss off anybody by not knowing the right of way rules out in the surf. Hans showed up and helped me out- I caught so many waves that I was smoked at the end of the session. Very cool experience and Hans helped me improve my surfing and he had interesting stories to tell. Great time- thank you Hans! Keep going strong!

Great service in the office, very helpful. My instructor “Sergio Dissaro” was great!! I was a first time surfer, 49 years old. He had me up within 15 minutes of the lesson. Highly recommend Sergio!!

This is a great way to learn the basics of surfing. Waikīkī has small waves that are perfect for beginners. The private lesson was worth the cost and allowed more coaching and riding more waves. Get the drone package to prove you did it! Niko was a great teacher and his insights and small adjustments sped my progress more than a group class would have.

This was an amazing “bucket list” experience. I booked a private lesson for my 65th birthday with the goal of standing up at least once. My instructor, Niko, made sure I met and surpassed my goal. He was great. He was encouraging and able to provide the right amount of feedback so I could gradually improve with each wave. Yes, I stood repeatedly and felt confident the whole time. I got the drone package to prove I did it and was thrilled to feel the waves push me along. You can do it!

Awesome morning with Hans’ surf school! My husband and I did a Semi private lesson and our sons (ages 7 and 9) had private lessons. We almost cancelled because of the weather and were so glad we didn’t! We all got up and were able to ride the waves. Guides were warm and wonderful instructors. Highly recommend!

We had tons of fun learning to surf today! Hans himself patiently taught my husband and I to catch a wave and stand for a few seconds on the board. In the mean time, our daughters (7 & 10) were having the time of their life with Lauren and Adonis, two very kid-friendly instructors. Thank you for making our trip to Hawaii more memorable!

Private tour was 100% worth it, the big group was like 20+ people. It was just me and my brother and we each had our own instructor. They were both awesome and went with the vibe each of us had, very much appreciated!! Due to construction, we showed up a few minutes late and no one gave us any pushback, very much appreciated!!

My son had a great experience with this school on his first surf lesson. The instructor was excellent, got him up standing many times, and kept him safe. The photo package is a bit expensive but I now regret not taking it given how amazing the experience was. Highly recommended school.

My flight was cancelled on Thursday afternoon and as soon as I heard I was staying in Hawaii another 3 nights, I booked in surfing lessons for the next day. Hans Hederman surf were super quick to respond and after a phone call in the evening, I got myself booked in! As I have been surfing for over a year I didn’t want to surf soft top board and keen to hire hard top long board. I spoke to a few surfing companies and Hans Hederman surf was the best one I spoke to who provided surfboard rental options. The whole team in HHS are amazing. Such lovely people, so quick to respond on WhatsApp. I did one private lesson with Niko and loved it so much I booked in for two more lessons. Niko was very professional, caring, made me feel super comfortable as I was nervous about my fitness after surgery last year, gave me some really awesome tips, he is really funny and fun! Special thanks to the admin person who I booked with who contacted me after hours, to Ellie who made me feel so welcome and for taking care of me, to Ed who took the best drone photos and videos, standard photos and go pro shots. Ed was so much fun as we took go pro photos while we surfed together. Such awesome videos! Make sure you get the photo package. It’s sooooo worth it!!! You’ll be watching them post surfs and when you return home as you reminisce surfing in Hawaii. They can also use the drone where they surf because they’re located near the park, it’s a great super bonus booking with these guys! I was also surfing to support Chris O’Brien Lifehouse to find cure for cancer. The team were really supportive and took great footage to share in my socials. I honestly cant wait to surf with this team again and highly recommend them! I’m def keen to come back asap to surf beautiful Waikiki with these guys

I did private lessons with Charles Nemet. He taught me moves and practice to be like a real surfer. I was able to continuously practice during the session, catch up the waves and standup. I highly recommend him for others.

We got a private surf lesson for our 12 year old grand daughter. She loved it. The check in process was easy. Her instructor was great and she had a wonderful experience that she will never forget. We were able to go with her and watch her lesson and that was fun for us.

Super fun and rewarding experience with my 6-year-old twins and myself. We booked the private surfing lessons since we’ve never surf before. The couches were all very nice, patient and very skillful in guiding us through the moves. All three of us were able to catch several waves and stood up successfully! I can see now how surfing is easily addicted!! And I’m very thankful for Hans Hedemann making our first surfing experience such a inspiring and rewarding one!! Thank you!! 🙏🙏🙏

I booked a 6 day course here, the first few days were ok, I met good instructor, he was really nice I also gave him a tip of 100,they always change the instructor . I already told my instructor on the fifth day of class , I have been in the class for 5 days, i can practice more, but we have been training very close to the beach, I saw many students are outside and they can catch the waves, I told my coach I want Went inside but he said time was up but then it was 3.40 minutes before the end of the class and I left and when I got back to the office their manager wasn't there and they told me to call back the next day, But no one answered the phone, all I bought were private lessons, the experience and service quality were really poor, and the photo package, they were really careless, I bought it for 3 days, only sent it to me for 2 days, no One is standing up, it's really funny😅

Charles and Kalani were the best!! This was the first time surfing for the kids and they had so much fun and caught lots of waves! They both said it was one of the best experiences in their lives! Would definitely recommend spending the extra money for private lessons as you get one on one time with amazing instructors.

My kids learned to surf in 2 hours. So much so, that they rented a board a day later to go on their own. Charlie & Niko were awesome. And the staff in the office was great to work with. Buy the photo package. The drone footage is amazing. Ed got some amazing photos. If you want to learn to surf, this is the place to learn.

I was so fortunate to receive a private lesson from Hans himself at the North Shore on very short notice (booked a day prior). Hans is an extremely experienced, knowledgeable, and caring teacher who was so patient with me and got me up on the board. I am not a very strong swimmer and was apprehensive about this lesson, but I am so glad i took the dive! Hans worked with me on the shore and we were in the water after about 5 minutes of on-shore instructions. he made it so easy to get started. Every time I tried to catch a wave and fell off the board, Hans would give me one pointer to focus on - and to my greatest surprise, I was able to surf after about 5 tries!! Of course, there was a lot of trial and error after that, but I am deeply grateful for the lesson, and highly recommend it to anyone who might be interested! Thanks! Joe
