Private Surf Experience

I highly recommend Kona Town Surf Adventures. I have taken surfing lessons with this company in the past and have had nothing but an absolute blast and wonderful instructors. During my trip, I took two surfing lessons. The first one was a group lesson with Charles - I appreciated his attention to detail and constructive feedback. I found it very helpful. For my second session, I had a solo lesson with Hanz. He was very encouraging and personable, which enhanced the cultural aspect of the surfing experience. He provided me with some great tips.

These guys were great!! Had my kids and I up on the boards in no time flat!

My son enjoyed his lesson with Arie yesterday afternoon. She is polite and professional. The fee is reasonable for one hour and a half. I would recommend her to any parents who have teenagers wanting to learn surfing.

My 10-year old daughter and I did a surf lesson with Charles. He was amazing. She stood up on her very first wave! Can’t recommend highly enough for the quality of instruction and the experience. My daughter is hooked and immediately started talking about the next time we’ll go surfing!

Our family visited the big island in June. Our 12 and 14 year olds wanted to take a surf lesson and dad joined. Charles was a great instructor! They ended up being out on the water for about 2 hours, which was plenty. Price was reasonable. They had a great time, learned the basics, and left with wonderful memories. Thank you so much!

Fantastic experience for me and my 3 sons. Arie, Charles, Daniel, and Zal were all great. We are all pretty much beginners, and with their help, we were able to catch our first waves in no time. Not only were they helpful with instruction and tips, but they were all great to talk to while waiting for the next wave. One of the best things we have done on this trip, and we are even looking to book again before we return if we can squeeze it in. Thanks for a great day surfing!

This was a great surf experience. The girls learned fast and really loved their time with Aerie and Charles. Highly recommend.

So fun we did it twice! Our instructors were attentive and helpful. They took great care of our would-be surfers! The locale for novice surfers was perfect. Everyone got up on their boards multiple times! Thank you to all of our instructors!

My daughter wanted a lesson for her 18th birthday. The location was perfect for beginners. Joe told her exactly what was going to take place and out they went. He taught her the basics and then let her go as he watched for waves that she could ride on. I had read reviews saying the instructors just sits there and do nothing. I think this isn’t all fair. They are watching and waiting to give the go ahead to the surfer. It’s a sport of great patience and the ocean will do what it wants and when. I have to say that it is the customer that is either interested in learning or not. I would recommend this excursion and was pleased with the lesson my daughter received. Joe was great as an instructor.

I was skeptical at first but Charles made me feel comfortable, and by the end of the lesson I was able to stand. Pretty awesome.

I brought my son and his friend and the experience was amazing. They were up and surfing in no time at all. The teaching was so good my son said next time I’ll just get a board and go!!!

Took my teen son on our first day in Hawaii. We're East Coasters, so he needed some proper instruction as it'd been a year since he'd been on a board in proper surf. His instructor was incredibly patient, customizing the guidance for a boy who had both some skills but who still needed guidance on how to pick the right wave (and what proper surf etiquette looked like!)

We booked this activity for 1st time surfers for our 4 girls between 9-12 yrs age group. They loved it and were able to surf by themselves by 3rd try. We were amazed to see our girls having so much fun!! Private tutors were very helpful and encouraging the girls keep goingl!!

Arie was a great tutor (I did a private lesson with her). I can now stand on the wave well! It was a fun time! But if anyone wants to book and looking for the location, you may need to look for the truck with the sign Send Town Kona Surfer (Something similar to it) as they company packs their truck near Kahalu’u beach park (on the roadside)

Beautiful morning surfing Kahalu’u Beach with Julano. He was excellent in helping me (a moderately skilled beginner) dial in the break, clean up my paddling skills and a few other bits of my technique. As a Colorado resident, it’s difficult to spend the daily hours needed to become skilled in this sport, but with the pointers and instruction given to me from Juliano, I have renewed hope that I might not be stuck in my “advanced beginner” rut for the rest of my life. Highly recommended!

My daughter (11yrs old) did two lessons through Kona Town Surf Adventure. She had a great experience both times, and loved Arie. My daughter felt she learned a lot from Arie, and she was fun to talk to. I appreciated that Arie kept her eye on her and kept her safe. Overall great experience and would recommend to others.

Dylan was a GREAT instructor! My partner and I LOVED our first experience surfing with him!! Totally recommend it! We learned so much in one sitting!! One of the best parts of our trip to Hawaii!

My kids had an amazing experience! The instructors Asher and Ari were wonderful, got my kids standing and enjoying surfing safely in just a few tries! They had a wonderful time!

Our sons (14 & 12) started our trip with these lessons and it’s still my 14 year old’s favorite part. We had Arie and Aria. You’ll go out in a larger group but have one instructor focused on you. Great time!

The instructors were very knowledgeable and friendly. My boys each had an instructor and they made sure the boys had lots of opportunities to catch waves. My kids felt safe and had lots of fun.

My husband and I have been wanting to take lessons for years and couldn’t have asked for a better experience! Eli and Charles hooked us up with all the gear, provided detailed instructions and made sure we had an awesome time catching plenty of waves!! Very professional and overall a fantastic experience, would highly recommend!

Andrew (12 year old) had a fabulous experience yesterday with Joe. He could not have had a better coach! Got up on that surfboard his second try and every try afterwards. Joe is truly extraordinary. He didn’t “talk down” to him, but treated him like a buddy. He did such a good job of preparation on land before they hit the waves. We loved everything about him!

We had a fantastic class with Charles. He first had us practice on land before paddling out. Gave us specific, clear, and logical guidance. Once on the water, he watched us, cheered us on, and helped us progress on our boards. So much fun, we will be back!!!

Never surfed before and today I rode my very first wave. Charles is a great instructor. Clear communication skills....verbally and physically. Patient and encouraging. Gave valuable feedback. Very attentative to safety. Great sense of humor.

Great personalized teaching, I learned a lot. Great teacher with a lot of patience. We had nice gentle learning waves and great weather. Wasn’t too busy when I went at 2 pm session. I’ve don’t a couple’s class in the past, a solo class is well worth the extra for learning.

We are a family of six, four kids ages 8 to 15. We had a semi private option with three instructors. Everyone got up multiple times and had a blast. Tiring!

I have always been somewhat intimidated by surfing but wanted to try it on the last day of my trip to Kona. I was thrilled to actually ride a wave on my second wave! Hans is an amazing instructor with excellent people skills. I enjoyed every minute of my time in the water. It made me want to move to Kona and buy a surfboard!

Ali gave great explanation and feedback. I was able to get up and surfing pretty quickly and had a great time. I’ve wanted to try surfing for a long time and I’m glad I did it!

By far the best surfing experience we've had thus far. Reservation process was smooth & easy. The reservationist's was very knowledgeable with best times & days. Of course surf is always changing but her recommendation were very helpful. When we arrived at the surf van the instructors were nice & friendly. Made us feel welcomed. Once we were out on the water our instructors knew their stuff we were up & surfing in no time. Best crew best company! highly recommend if you are ever on the bid island.

They showed up 30 minutes late, blaming a road detour that we also had to take, which added 5 minutes total to the trip. When we tried calling multiple times to figure out where to meet, nobody answered (our hotel couldn’t reach them either). We booked a private lesson for one, temporarily changed it to a semi-private for two, and then dropped it back down to one before the lesson due to a re-agitated knee injury from earlier in the year. They refused to charge us for the actual lesson they gave, even though the number of instructors (1) and time spent (1.5h) was the exact same, i.e., they just took another $150 for doing nothing. There are plenty of surf lesson places in the area. Would look elsewhere.

Milo was great with our Grandson and they both had a great afternoon surfing. He's pretty good for 10yrs old and is so stoked to go again next week...so long as Milo is available. See you soon! Papa

Milo was a very patient instructor. The conditions helped. I had envisaged endless falling off the board, but my first time was an awesome experience. I will definitely try surfing again.

Our family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers took a semi private surf lesson. That was our first time and we had an amazing experience. My daughter and I were both nervous at the beginning but the two instructors made us feel safe and secure and gave very good instructions. Our two teens succeeded easily and my husband and I even reached few waves at the end. One of the best moment of our vacation. Thanks!
