There’s something magical and completely unique about a Road To Hana tour with Kellen’s Local Maui Tours. Kellen was born and raised in Hawaii. Growing up he and his friends explored the whole island and discovered the most scenic spots many other tour guides might not know about. He owns his business and doesn’t outsource the tours to anyone else so you’re guaranteed to get the Kellen experience whenever you book with his company. His car is huge, comfortable and clean. He took time to understand what mattered to us and made customized recommendations. We went to see beaches with red and black sand, bathed in waterfalls, saw an estuary with the river flowing into the sea, looked at the sky through a lava tube and saw sleeping turtles on the beach. We ran over our scheduled time but Kellen still made the time to take us to see what mattered to us. Throughout the drive Kellen told us about the plants of Hawaii, the history, the culture and the evolution of the islands. If you want a clean, safe, comfortable, friendly and customized Road To Hana experience you have to book your tour with Kellen!

Having a driver who knows the roads and all the stops is great. Several stops at places for food and snacks. So you don’t have to pack lunch or snacks, but if you do these stops are still on your tour.

Was weary of making the drive myself since I wanted to view the sites instead of worrying about the drive. So glad sister and I booked this trip with Local Maui Tours. Met easily with guide (I'm horrible with names, Callen sp?) at a safe location. He drove a clean and very comfortable Wagoner. Felt very comfortable with his driving especially with all the curves, bridges and having to stop for single lane sections in some areas. He was very thoughtful and brought a fresh coconut and mangoes for us to try along with extra water. Beautiful drive with what seemed like waterfalls around every curve. Had plenty of time to enjoy the stops along the way.

So this was a splurge for us on our first trip to Maui, and I have to say I have no regrets. I don’t think we would have begun to experience the Road to Hana the same way trying to do it on our own. Kellen was amazing and made sure we hit all the highlights, plenty of extras, and all the must sees. It really was a bucket list item that was beautifully curated just for us. We never felt rushed and got to experience everything we wanted. I can’t recommend it enough if you want to be able to relax and know you are getting the best of the Road to Hana from a knowledgeable and fun guide. It’s worth it!!

Absolutely wonderful experience doing the reverse road to Hana. My whole family had the best time, saw so many spots that we'd never find on our own, and enjoyed Kellen's company the whole way. We'll definitely be in touch the next time we are in Maui!

The company I originally tried scheduling the full loop road to Hana, wasn’t available and recommended Local Maui Tours, and we are SOOO glad they did. The tour from Local Maui Tours was better than anything we hoped. Kellen made us comfortable and treated us like best friends he hadn’t seen in years. Best of all, it was in the luxury of a super comfy and spacious vehicle. We got to see numerous waterfalls, Turtles, and Kellen taught us a TON about Maui, the culture, history, etc. While stopping at beaches, waterfalls, local farms, rainforests, etc. We took thousands of pictures and had a tour that we’ll have memories for a lifetime. I work on cruise ships and have been on countless tours across many destinations, and this experience stands out as one of the very best. Kellen, the guide, created an exceptional and memorable day exploring Maui. Multiple waterfalls, a turtle-viewing stop, an excellent local lunch spot, a peaceful arboretum, and part of the Road to Hana were all included — and several of the waterfalls would have been impossible to find without true local expertise. The pacing of the day was perfect: never rushed, yet an impressive amount was covered. Safety was always a priority, and even on the narrow Hana roads, there was complete confidence in Kellen’s driving. The vehicle was spacious, luxurious, and extremely comfortable, with excellent A/C that made the full-day outing even more enjoyable. A highlight was watching fresh coconuts being opened for coconut water straight from the source — such a thoughtful touch. As a cruise ship visitor, the logistics could not have been easier. Pickup was right outside the cruise port and drop-off was even closer to the ship. There was never a moment of concern about making it back on time. The entire experience felt personal, smooth, and incredibly well planned. It was easy to simply relax and enjoy seeing everything without needing to navigate or plan out the route. I highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting a safe, stress-free, and unforgettable way to experience Maui.

Kellen is an amazing tour guide!!! My husband and I went on his Road to Hana tour and we enjoyed every moment from beginning to end. This review is a year late but it’s been on my mind because it was such an amazing experience. My son and I booked a full day Road to Hana tour with Kellen and it was hands down the best choice we could have made. He’s a true local and knew everything about the history of the area. He took us to the best spots, we saw some of the most beautiful sights on Maui, and we ate the best banana bread I’ve ever had. It was so much better than trying to drive ourselves. I even invited other family members to join us but they wanted to do the drive on their own. They only made it halfway before turning back because it was too much. That really says it all about how worth it this tour is. The Grand Wagoneer we rode in was super comfortable and spacious which made the whole day even more enjoyable. I would recommend Kellen to anyone visiting Maui. It was truly one of the best experiences I have ever had.

Amazing day experiencing the road to Hana on the reverse full loop tour. My family filled up the van…there were 7 of us ranging in age from 13 to 75. We had a full day experiencing waterfalls, beaches, lava tubes, rainbow eucalyptus trees, sea turtles, a little shopping, & meeting locals along the way. Kellen is a great tour guide- he’s professional, knowledgeable, easy going, & a lot of fun (he’s also a good driver which is very important on this route!). He will make sure you have a good time. He even took my 16 year old son for a cliff dive! I highly recommend Kellen at Local Maui Tours for an unforgettable experience!

My husband and I had a great time on the full-day tour! Kellen was so informative - lots of great tidbits about Maui history. We loved that we never felt rushed from one place to the next, while at the same time, didn't feel like we had too much time at each stop. Kellen took us to some smaller, less touristy places at our request and that was really awesome. We loved the honey spot and had the most amazing banana bread. Also, the chocolate stand with the adorable pig was a can't miss. The tour felt more like traveling with a friend than a tour guide. It's hard to pick one stand out favorite - my husband loved the black rock beach and I think I loved the turtles and rainbow eucalyptus. We highly recommend this tour!

My wife and I were visiting Maui for the first time and were looking for a private tour that would allow us to experience the spirit of the island - Kellen gave us that and more. We actually did two tours - the Road to Hana Jungle and West Maui tours. Kellen was, of course, professional and friendly, but after two pretty full days, we felt like Ohana. We saw places that I doubt you could find on your own and without having to drive the 620 curves and 59 bridges on the way to Hana. Obviously, we would, without hesitation, recommend Local Maui Tours. I would also note that Kellen was recommended by another tour operator who we were considering, but was booked - we think that says a lot.

My boyfriend and I wanted a private tour, which was the main reason we booked the trip with Local Maui Tours. Kellen was professional and considerate, asking us before and during the trip what interested us so that he could customize the trip for us, which I appreciated. He is also from Maui and is knowledgable so could give us detailed answers to all our questions about the island and its history. I have to say my boyfriend and I were very tired after this long day of driving and so much sightseeing. If we were to do it again, we would drive one day to Hana and sleep there and then finish the tour the next day. I think we might enjoy that better, but that was because it was chock full of so much fun, with waterfalls, beaches, chocolate, wine, and ice cream you can taste on the way. We didn't need any extra help, so I can't say if this trip is accessible, but I think it's suitable for families, couples, and all types of groups.

Had an awesome ride up the coast, stopped at numerous locations to take in the sites and get photos, Kellen was extremely polite and knowledgeable, highly recommend if you want a more one on one experience.

Just a couple of years ago we drive ourselves on the Road to Hana with an audio guide. It worked well enough but the drive was tiring. Especially driving back in the rain. For this trip we had Kellen drive our group of four. It was fantastic to have someone else drive. Kellens vehicle was really comfortable. He took us to several stops we had not been to before. All together a good trip.

Kellen with Local Maui Tours did a wonderful job giving us a great tour of Maui. You can tell he truly loves the island and has a lot of knowledge. He was very responsive to emails and took our preferences into consideration as we went about our day. He was a lot of fun! Reverse Full Loop Tour: Great way to see large area of the island. Had many stops and lots of information from an actual local. Going in reverse we didn't have a crowd at our stops. Perfect day!

The tour was incredible. It was just me, my girlfriend, and our tour guide all day, driving through the jungle road to Hana. Without him, we would have missed so many beautiful sites and great places to eat. We saw gorgeous waterfalls, went to scenic black-sand beaches, and explored a lava tube that had us climbing over the roots of banyan trees. I would absolutely book this tour again in the future. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Kellen was an excellent tour guide for our family. He made sure to show us some incredible sights without letting us get bogged down in tourist-trap stops along the way. We had so many gorgeous stops, learned a lot about Maui, and were relieved NOT to have to do any of that twisty driving ourselves.

This is one of the best private tours we have ever taken. Kellen has a deep knowledge of local history, culture and the environment that only comes from someone born and raised in Maui. He's an excellent driver and we were so glad we chose his tour to explore Hana so we could take in all the beauty without worrying about navigating narrow windy roads and where to park. We saw everything that was on our wishlist and more, green sea turtles, waterfalls, black and red sand beaches, lava tubes, beautiful vistas, rainbow eucalyptus trees, a rare sighting of spinner dolphins playing in a cove and ate delicious food. It was the perfect day and one that our family will remember for years to come!

This was a great experience and in my opinion the best way to view the road to Hana. Kellen was a great host and very knowledgeable. If you want to relieve yourself of the stress of driving, this is the way to go.

Great tour. Enjoyed not driving the road ourselves and having all reservations sorted for us. Really liked the farm fresh fruit stop and all the swimming. Kellen was lovely, not too chatty (which is a good thing) but very personable and locally knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend this tour. The Jeep Wagoneer is super comfortable!

Kellen is a wonderful tour guide. I went on two tours, the West Maui loop and the full Road to Hana tour. Both were incredible and very different from each other, I highly recommend you take two days and tour each side of the island. The Hana tour was filled with countless waterfalls, sea turtles, sunsets, windy turns, beautiful coastline, lava rocks. We were able to see white sand, red sand, and black lava rock beaches. We stopped at a local cacao farm and tried fresh cacao fruit and learned about the process from bean to chocolate bar. We sampled soursop and other exotic fruits as well. He pointed out flowers and medicinal plants which was neat to learn about. We swam in waterfalls and beaches. We also visited lava tubes. He provided headlamps so that we could see clearly. Great experience Kellen! On the West Maui tour, we enjoyed whale-watching, beautiful coastline/beaches, and hike to a gorgeous cliff house. We had amazing fresh fish at a local eatery. Kellen is a great photographer and will take some if you’d like. Kellen has bought a luxurious Jeep wagoneer which was very comfortable. I usually get carsick but did not at all in this vehicle. I can’t imagine doing this tour in one of the larger vans without suspension. I highly recommend this tour!

We took the Road to Hana full tour and our guide Kellen was superb. He asked for our input before the day of and tailored the day tour around what interested our family. We got to see many parts of Maui that we would not have without him. Friendly, funny, and knowledgeable. We are grateful for the experiences we had during our tour. 5 stars all the way!

Kellen, a native of Maui and owner of Local Maui Tours, took my wife and I on a full Hana loop tour including many beautiful waterfalls and beaches. Kellen designed own tour around what was important to us, making sure that we got to see the sea turtles and monk seal, rainbow eucalyptus trees, lava tubes, caves, ocean blowholes and joined us for Huli Huli Hawaiian chicken lunch at a beach park in Hana. He showed us sites that we would never have been able to see on our own (including cliff diving off an amazing waterfall), had an excellent vehicle for the trip and made it truly memorable for us.

We recently did the full Hana loop with Local Maui Tours and had a fantastic time. Kellen was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable and friendly. We got a week's worth of sights and activities in a day. We saw lava flows, arid highlands, rain forest, water falls, lava tubes, red sand beach, black sand beach, a lava cave, giant sea turtles, and more beautiful vistas than we can remember. Do yourself a favor and do the full Hana loop with Local Maui Tours, you won't be disappointed.

This was a great tour and great way to experience the Road to Hana. I’ve done the Road to Hana in the past and definitely recommend taking a tour. I learned so much and saw so many sights on this tour. Kellen is super knowledgeable and helpful. He goes above and beyond to make sure you get what you want out of the tour. This is the absolute best tour you can imagine! My wife and I had the time of our lives. A full day of sights, sun, and fun. Kellen is an expert tour guide, and you get the full loop, exploring the backside of the Road to Hana, which is amazing. Since it is a private tour, Kellen customizes your tour to what you enjoy. If you are on the fence regarding a private tour for the Roas to Hana, do not hesitate!

I can’t recommend Local Maui Tours enough! Kellan is a very engaging, friendly & Knowledgable local who will take you to some of the most beautiful spots on the island, many of which you wouldn’t find on your own. We took the Hana road tour & got the opportunity to see the black sand beach, lava tubes, blow holes, local surfing hot spots. We swam in a pool under a water fall, dined at some tasty local food trucks & finished the day looking at sea turtles coming up on shore for their evening nap. It was a wonderful day & would t think twice to do it again on our next trip. If you’re looking for a personable guided tour do NOT pass this one up!

My mom and I took this tour to see all the stops on the road to Hana. It exceeded all expectations! We were able to decide which stops to make and for how long. We learned so much from our guide, who showed us amazing spots we would not have found on our own. I would recommend this to anyone!

Love the 8:00am pickup at the hotel and having the morning to really take in the sights without so much traffic. Kellen was a great guide to spend 10 hours with. We saw it all and it was my best day on Maui!

Had an absolutely wonderful day yesterday. Kellen did a fabulous job driving his new luxury SUV. We are on the Pride of America and didn’t want to have to deal with large crowds on an excursion through NCL.He made sure we enjoyed ourselves at every spot and didn’t rush us. You should absolutely book a day with Kellen when in Maui! We don't always leave reviews, but Kellen was so great that he deserved one (and a good one). We took the full loop (which he did in reverse) with Kellen. Despite having never met him previously, the conversation was friendly and easy. Having done the day with Kellen, I would never attempt the Road to Hana by driving myself - He is an expert with a comfortable and luxurious vehicle, a great play list, a conscientious driver, knows everyone at all of the stops, can take you to the hidden gems, best eats (based on your likes and dislikes) and gets you to all of the right places at the right time. He can help you out of any jam you encounter - when it started to rain, he magically appeared with umbrellas and when a huge tree fell across the road preventing any cars from passing and the possibility of having to turn around, Kellen went to the closest local's house to see if he had a chainsaw and demonstrated his machete skills to successfully remove the barrier and permit us (and all of the other tour cars who watched on) to pass and complete the trip. On top of all of this, he is also a great photographer! We will recommend this trip with Kellen to everyone travelling to Maui. It was our best of 10 days on the islands, hands down! Thanks Kellen.

Very nice private tour in a new luxury SUV. Kellen did a great job driving, I didn’t get motion sickness at all (I typically do on normal tour buses/shuttles) and he found places to accommodate my vegetarian wife. Our tour ran a bit later than scheduled because of the busy holiday crowds, but he never rushed us and made sure we enjoyed our experience at each stop.

My husband and I booked a tour of the Hana Road for our honeymoon in December 2022. I was a little apprehensive at first, as I had no idea what to expect. However, the whole trip exceeded our expectations! It ended up just being my husband, Kellen, and I, which was totally unexpected! I am so glad we booked through here. I would've been stressed driving us the entire trip. It helped SO much to have a local show us around - he knew where to stop, how long to stop, and what he was looking at!
