Private Road To Hana Tour Black Sand Beach/waterfalls/sea Turtles

My husband and I just got back from Maui for our 25th anniversary trip. This was our first excursion we did and this trip is a little pricy but very worth the trip and experience. It is a great way to see the island and highly recommend getting a tour guide vs. doing the tour on your own. I can't say enough good things about our guide Daya. He took us to several stops that we may not have seen if we did our own driving. The guides know exactly where to go to customize the trip to your own preferences. We went to several beaches (black and red sand), saw turtles and a seal on the beach, and several waterfalls. There are several food choices on the trip - like food trucks that serve burgers, pizza etc. We chose to go eat Huli Huli chicken because we wanted to experience Hawaiian food vs. eating burgers, pizza that you can eat anywhere. The famous Auntie Sandy banana bread was closed on the day we went but Daya took us down the street to get banana bread from another stand which was completely fine with us. This was a highlight of our trip and I highly recommend.

Danielle was a gem! She picked us up at our hotel at the appointed time and expertly drove us to Hana and back. We made numerous stops for coffee, banana bread, for a grove of rainbow trees mixed with Banyan trees, waterfalls and opportunity to jump, delicious lunch, red sand beach, black sand beach. We saw coral and beautiful rocks and learned that it’s bad luck to bring a rock from Hawaii back home. We got to see iwa birds and Danielle waved her arms to attract the birds and they came! We stopped for coconut ice cream. I am sure that I forgot a few! She knew all the secret spots! We are grateful to her and to her boss, Dana, who communicated with us in advance to make sure we brought all of the correct gear for the trip. In addition, Danielle‘s car was well stocked with drinks and everything you could possibly need from toilet paper to hand sanitizer and bug spray and more. What a beautiful day, we will all treasure and remember!

Four of us spent an incredible day with Yvonne, traveling the road to Hāna. It was so much more than we had expected it to be. We truly felt like we were in the jungle. The turtles on the beach were one of our first stops and you almost can’t believe you’re staring at all. Those turtles sunbathing on the beach, It’s incredible. And to go to a black sand, red beach was so much more than we had expected it to be. The green was like a green I had never seen, and the size of the leaves on the ferns and the palms where huge. Then to go to a black sand beach and a red sand beach feeling the texture of the sand which is lava. All the perfect water falls left us saying WOW. I honestly never knew there were white, red and blue ginger flowers. It is very long day, but if you love nature, it is a beautiful way to spend the day . Our guide Yvonne truly also loves nature, which makes the experience so much better. She points out so many things you would never see if you were just looking on your own. She gave us a lot of choices of things to do. We ended up having lunch at food trucks and they were so delicious. I just can’t say enough about how great this day was.

This is a wonderful way to get a taste of the natural beauty of Maui, regardless of age! Our guide, Yvonne, was knowledgeable, pleasant, conscientious, and patiently kind with us older folks ( in our 60s and 90s). We saw many hidden gems that would have been missed if we had driven the road ourselves, including hidden waterfalls, rainbow eucalyptus trees, a cacao farm, a delicious ice cream stand, a black sand beach, a red sand beach, and a beach filled with giant sea turtles. What was also impressive was Yvonne’s ability to navigate the narrow roads and single- lane bridges with competent dexterity. All in all, it was a very pleasant and informative day, and we certainly appreciate Maui more now!

We were able to tailor the tour for our needs and our tour guide was amazing. Thank you Danielle you really made the trip amazing. We didn’t feel rushed and every time we made a change, you didn’t blink an eye and was able to accommodate each and every change! You are wonderful!!

Our guide Caroline made the day awesome! She was very knowledgeable and took us to some great sites! She made sure we had everything we needed. She picked up our banana bread order and even had a knife and cutting board on the ready so we could enjoy as we traveled the Road to Hana. She was so thoughtful and personable. It felt like a member of our family was along for the ride!

Absolutely had a blast! This was definitely a once in a lifetime experience for me and my sister. A private tour is definitely the way to go. Our guide, Yvonne, and the gentleman she was training were amazing.

This was the best experience we have ever had! Yvonne was amazing, she tailored our experience to exactly what we wanted to do. She was knowledgeable and very personable. Our guide Te’a was amazing! We learned so much about the history of the road, the plant-life, the falls, everything. Saw so many beautiful falls and beaches. Great local stands and awesome lunch! I would 100% recommend. By the end of the day Te’a felt like one of the family and we can’t wait to plan our next trip to Maui so we can do it all again!

My family of 4 (with two teenagers) had a fantastic day. Jackie was our guide for the full day and she catered our tour to our interests. We didn't know what we wanted to see and do, but Jackie took care of us! We were able to do a little of everything. Sampling cocoa, roadside stand with amazing banana bread and coffee, black and red sand beaches with a swim in the ocean, and swimming at the base of a waterfall. The stops we made were not overcrowded with large tour groups. While the road is very curvy, Jackie's drove so well not one of us was car sick (and two of us easily get motion sickness). Towels, snacks, bandaids, drinks were all provided. A well planned, comfortable trip. Truly an amazing experience. If you are visiting Maui, this is a must do tour.

Amazing tour! So glad we booked this and left the driving to them! We had been on Oahu 5 days before this and my husband was frustrated from traffic there so we were glad to sit back and enjoy the ride and all the experiences along the way!

The Road to Hana Tour was our FAVORITE excursion on our trip to Maui! Our guide, David, aka “Shirtless Dave” was amazing! The Road to Hana with our tour guide, David, AKA Shirtless Dave was amazing! He took us off the beaten path to several special beaches and waterfalls and since he’s an organic farmer, he shared with us the name and history of all the trees, plants, flowers, and birds that we saw along the way!

Our tour guide Danielle did a wonderful job of making us feel welcome and tailoring the tour to exactly what we wanted. The ride was comfortable and made even better by learning about the different flora and fauna or maui. This was the highlight of our trip and when we return we'll book with magic of maui of again.

We had the best time with Nicole on this trip! She was great at pointing out all over the places along the way that were on and off the beaten path! We walked through the bamboo forest and enjoyed waterfalls, the history of the road to Hana and the city of Hana and just the beauty of the drive! I also struggle with motion sickness and followed their advice for the less drowsy drama mean the night before and day of as well as sea bands, and I had absolutely no trouble.

Spent the day with Yvonne doing a private full day Road to Hana tour. Met us at the designated location as scheduled for pickup. We had perfect weather! Yvonne was a great driver and knowledgeable about the Road to Hana. Stopped at Ho’okipa Lookout to watch surfers; a waterfall in a bamboo forest (surreal amongst the bamboo); rainbow eucalyptus trees; tasted strawberry guava fruit; Ke’anae Peninsula, a dramatic lava rock coastline; Wai’anapanapa State Park for the black sand beach and the lava tube. Pizza and salad at Hana Farms (highly recommend) and a stop at a cacao stand to learn about and sample Hawaiian chocolate. Loved our experience!

We recently took a Road to Hana excursion (scheduled for April 10th, but went on the 11th) and had such a fantastic experience that I had to share. From the very beginning, the organizer (Dana, who I believe is also the owner) stood out. With all the national news about weather concerns leading up to our trip, I was honestly a bit nervous. About a week in advance, Dana sent an update reassuring us that the Road to Hana is open and beautiful rain or shine, which immediately put us at ease. We were able to flex around the weather, which I appreciate and know is not always possible. We decided to book a private driver so we could move at our own pace with our children, and I’m so glad we did. Our driver, Luke, was prompt, professional, and unbelievably patient with our very inquisitive five-year-old, who had a lot of questions. Luke answered everything with ease and shared so much knowledge about the area, the land, and local history, things we likely wouldn’t have experienced on a larger group tour. While we had the flexibility to stop wherever we wanted, Luke also curated a really well-balanced day for us, including beautiful beaches, great lunch spots, and fun treats along the way. One thing worth noting: the welcome email does mention motion sickness, and that’s definitely something to take seriously. I was concerned about my five-year-old, but we made it through the full Road to Hana and back before he started to feel uncomfortable. If you’re prone to car sickness, definitely plan ahead and follow their guidance. Overall, my family absolutely loved the beaches, waterfalls, and breathtaking views and we loved how easy and personalized the entire experience felt. Highly recommend!

Danielle brought the magic and expertise to Road of Hana. I opted not to rent a car and let my family relax while Danielle brought us to all the magical spots in road to Hana. Big kudos to also having the snacks stocked for my 9 and 13 year old. She was extremely sweet when my son got motion sickness and let him ride shot gun in the car. It is an extremely long ride but worth every memory we made. I am so thankful we had Danielle would book a hundred times with her!

What a fabulous day!. Even though Maui was still recovering from the storms, we had a great tour with Guliano . He knew just where to take us to see the highlights of the road to Hana . I highly recommend doing a tour with Magic of Maui experiences!

Our family of four had an amazing time on the Road to Hana tour! Giuliano was our tour guide and he was wonderful at keeping both my 14 year old and 8 year old son engaged and entertained. Not to mention my own limitations with a broken elbow. Giuliano helped us see turtles, a nearly private black sand beach, waterfalls and more! My older son especially enjoyed doing a banana bread comparison among vendors and my younger son loved getting to skip rocks & investigate the tide pools at the various stops along the way. Definitely money well spent and a memorable day for all!

Nicole was an excellent guide. Even though we were just a few days after the terrible rains, she made sure we saw so many things. I can’t count the amazing views, let alone the turtles, trees, other plants and birds, and wonderful roadside stops. Definitely a must, especially if you are staying in a resort on the west side!

Dana and the Magic of Maui Experience are simply the best! We came to Hawaii for the first time during a Kona Low, a very intense rainfall. We've been disappointed by so many closures and cancelations. While our Road to Hana tour was canceled due to closure, Dana and her team were so positive and helpful! She was able to suggest several interesting alternatives and helped us save the otherwise disappointing day. While the weather was beyond her control, we were offered a full refund. We are thrilled Maui is getting much needed train, and we are looking forward to returning in a drier season! We will absolutely book with the Magic of Maui Experience again!

My husband and I got to experience the Magic of Maui tour for one of our honeymoon activities while here and we agree that it’s been our favorite of the entire trip! We highly enjoyed our whole day trip in a private vehicle that was stocked with drinks, snacks and other items. Our guide, Danielle, was extremely knowledgeable about the stops along the way to Hāna and even the ones that many tourists do not know. She did an amazing job tailoring our day to what we wanted to do and was a wealth of information! We loved getting to stop at the black sand beaches, waterfalls and pit stops along the way. Even in rainy weather, Danielle made the trip so memorable for us! We would absolutely rebook with Magic of Maui.

We booked a private tour for my husband and I. Cheyenne was our driver. She shared many interesting facts along the way and took us to spots we surely would have missed without her expertise. Do not miss the Ride to Hana and book a private tour. Cheyenne stopped along the way at local vendors where we were able to purchase local goodies to take home. Magic of Maui tour was the most priceless experience I have ever had. Owner Dana took all care to listen to our needs and make sure we were well looked after. Danielle our driver was amazing and made our day so special. We wanted to spread our pets ashes somewhere but our cruise line said we couldn't bring them so I reached out to Dana and she said absolutely it would be our honor to receive them so we mailed them the week before. Our entire day as drove through all those beautiful sites we talked about our pets and laughed and joked all while knowing at the end of the road we would be sad but happy to leave them behind. Danielle took us to great cafes and we also stopped and ate amazing local foods along the road including poi mochi, fresh coconut, local made brittle and the very best pizza of my life from Hanna Fresh! We hugged the mamma rainbow tree, patted the local cats, hiked the bamboo forest, saw sooooo many waterfalls and so many turtles. When it came time to set our fur babies free we found the perfect spot and were greeted by an army of cats and given one of our ashes was Duke the cat we knew this was the perfect place for him to rest. Then we hiked down to the black sand and found a cave for Bootsie and Joey to be set free as the waves came in and took them out. Danielle had brought rose leaves and she scattered them on the ground and played her sound bowl while we said a little prayer and said goodbye. We then ended the day swimming in a waterfall we had to ourselves. Danielle took incredible photos all day and boy they were amazing. Such special memories. We laughed, we cried, we lived, we loved and we left having made a friend for life and having reveled in the beauty and spiritual vibrance of this stunning island. Magic of Maui made sure this nervous passenger handled those curves without a single second of anxiety. Absolutely worth the money for a priceless experience. We had a wonderful time with Spencer! It was an incredibly rainy day, but Spencer kept things energetic and positive! He was so excited about the gushing waterfalls it was hard not to be excited as well. Of course we wish we could have done more along the way however it cleared up just in time for us to play at the black sand beach. Our 2 boys chatted his ear off and learned some new fun facts about Maui and sea turtles. We all experienced many firsts on this trip (including Spencer!) and know for sure it will be one we won’t ever forget!

The road to Hana is spectacular and made all the better by our guide, Journee. Journee made sure that we saw and experienced everything during our full day tour including many facts and stories to lend an historical perspective. During the day we saw dozens of waterfalls and hiked about 15 minutes to get close enough to one to take a swim in the water. We saw dozens of turtles on the beach and walked through a forest of amazing “painted” trees. And we ate! We had fresh banana bread, homemade chocolate and some great Huli Huli chicken. Overall, one of my favorite experiences ever

This past Sunday, we had the pleasure of the Magic Of Maui Experience taking us on the Road To Hana. We had read many people saying rent a car and drive yourself using the app, to that I say not a good idea. My wife and I were both able to enjoy all of the views and all of the sites that were pointed out to us by our amazing driver/guide/new friend Patrick! If you’re driving yourself, you’re missing out. From the moment we booked this the owner, Dana, was exceptional in her communication and assistance in making sure this was the right tour for us. Patrick did an excellent job of taking care of us customizing our tour and making sure we saw everything we wishes to see and things that we never would’ve dreamed of seeing! In the past, I’ve had some challenges with motion sickness and had mentioned this to Dana, and upon arrival, Patrick had actually set up so that I could ride in the front seat if I was worried about the motion sickness issue. While I decided to ride in the back with my wife, it was a very thoughtful way to begin our day. There are too many stops to call them all out, but one that really will be remembered is when Patrick took us to be up close to Rainbow Eucalyptus Trees and picked us fresh strawberry guava’s, that we had never had before, but they were wonderful. Patrick also provided some insight for stops that we would’ve never thought of such as Uncle Russell’s Legendary Huli Huli Chicken for an awesome lunch and for amazing Dark Chocolate at the all organic self sustainable cacao farm East Maui Chocolate. Thank you Dana for setting this up and thank you Patrick for all that you did for us. We really enjoyed ourselves. Highly recommend the Magic Of Maui Experience !!

Wow! My husband and I took a seven day cruise to Hawaii December 6-13th 2025. Two days we were docked in Maui. Our first day we booked half Road to Hana and the Haleakala volcano Sunset tour with the magic of Maui experience. After reading many reviews and looking at their Instagram post, I was convinced we needed to book this private tour! Our tour guide was Yvonne! Very easy to meet near our ship (sent us a text where she would be & a picture of her & the vehicle! Easy Peezy!) and she made our day and night one of the best memorial parts of our vacation! I consider her my new BFFlol! We seen waterfalls, black sand beaches, most of all the sun setting at dusk on top of the volcano was magical. She surprised us with seats , blankets, warm jackets, clothing, the cutest Shark Onesie, snacks and the topper was hot cocoa in aloha campfire cups! I could go on and on, but if anybody is wondering if the road to Hana is really worth it ? it is! And if your fear of windy roads and are double guessing…just know, they have very nice vehicles and Yvonne was an awesome driver! The trip up to the top of the volcano did give me a little anxiety, but I took Dramamine & Yvonne knew how to help me focus with laughter ( and bags of popcorn, popping in the backseat!) and great conversation /hawaiian music! If ever we go back, I am definitely reaching out for this experience ,,,all the way from booking the trip with the owner, Dana to giving a warm farewell hug to Yvonne.,,until next time,,,Highly suggest! And don’t forget, they will stop wherever and whenever you want to see lots of other things in Maui, food trucks anything …now that is above and beyond! Much Love from the Skup Dogs in Illinois! It was an unforgettable experience, with Jackie as our host, for our family of 5. She tailored our experience on the fly for exactly what we were looking for. Not only the standard visit spots, but a couple off the beaten path locations! We will definitely be seeking her out in any future visits! We booked the full day and Nicole was our driver. We had a blast she had a great personality and funny stories. We stopped at some cool water falls and also some fruit stands. She is very knowledgeable about the area and she was just fun to be around. I highly recommend this tour. It was my favorite tour on my 10 day vacation.

We booked a private tour with Magic of Maui and our guide David was genuinely unforgettable. From the moment he picked us up, he was warm, organized, funny, incredibly knowledgeable, and completely tuned in to what we hoped to see and do. The company kindly adjusted our start to earlier than usual so we could be back by mid-afternoon, and David managed the timing flawlessly. In one seamless, joy-filled flow we wandered beneath rainbow eucalyptus trees, caught glimpses of green sea turtles, walked along striking black sand and red sand beaches, savored Aunt Sandy’s famous banana bread with a breathtaking ocean view, swam in a waterfall, tasted raw cacao straight from the pod, sampled the rare and delicious monstera deliciosa fruit, enjoyed fresh fish in Hana, watched David expertly chop open a coconut for us to drink and share, and even got to examine black sand and tiny flecks of peridot through a microscope he carries with him—it was such a thoughtful, unique touch. It was a trip of all the senses. We enjoyed the sights, flavors, textures, and sounds of Maui wrapped together. David’s stories and explanations bringing the culture, history, plants, and wildlife to life in a way that felt both fun and deeply respectful. His driving on the famously windy roads was exceptionally smooth and safe, letting us relax and soak in the scenery, and even when it started raining on the way back, we felt completely at ease in his care. His easy conversation and enthusiasm made every moment feel special. He truly went above and beyond, fit everything in, and got us back right on time; we couldn’t have asked for a better guide or a more magical day.

This was an exceptional day overall! It starts with the company being great by giving you all the information you need in advance to ensure you can make the most out of your day and not worry about anything so you can just enjoy the adventure. Their tips about the best way to fight getting carsick 110% helped save my wife from a rough time and let her focus on the fun! Our guide, Te'a, did everything to make the day memorable for us. She texted us the night before so we knew what vehicle to look for and remind us about everything we'd need. She was prompt in the morning and very warm, friendly, and open. She definitely had a genuine love for the island and it shows with how she approached describing everything and the way she planned our day around the stuff we cared about. She was just as excited as we were when we were asking her to do some non-standard "nerdy" stuff like go look at Charles Lindberg's gravesite. She was great at talking about the history and culture of the various parts we visited as well as how things tie together (which is stuff we asked a lot about). We really enjoyed seeing all the wonderful beaches and trees but had a blast in the lava tube. This is something we would definitely do again the next time we come back to the island!

What an amazing day! Our tour guide Yvonne knocked it out of the park. We wanted a day where we could see as much of the road to Hana as possible and we did just that. Being able to have a private customizable tour was exactly what we were looking for - we learned so much about Maui along the way too.
