My family loved our surf lessons on the North Shore with Andy from 808 Surf School. Booking was super easy—808 was quick to respond and really helpful with all our questions. Andy was friendly, patient, safety‑focused, and just a fantastic instructor overall. The spot he took us to was perfect for learning: uncrowded, shallow, and easy to get to. We were able to park right on the side of the road and walk straight out to the water. After the lesson, we grabbed food nearby, which was ideal. We had so much fun, and it honestly ended up being the highlight of our Hawai‘i vacation. We all felt comfortable and actually caught waves. I highly recommend 808 Surf School for a family‑friendly surf experience on Oahu.

Andy was AWESOME!!! Great teacher. My kids and I were able to stand up right away and we surfed all morning. The kids loved him. He was super patient and really coached them to be future long term surfers. They have a new hobby to enjoy for the rest of their lives. All thanks to Andy and 808 surf school. If you’re nervous about a surfing excursion or looking for that private beech feel on Oahu, book with 808 Surf School!! Surfing was a bucket list item for my 13 year old daughter and I (Dad) tagged along. While she was admittedly better than me, our 2 hour private session flew by. We were both up on our boards many times and by the end totally comfortable on our boards. Our instructor Kaiser was so much fun. He encouraged us the whole time and gave great tips to make us more confident through the afternoon. He embodied the Aloha vibe. The beach was perfect. Not crowded like some of the other tours we’ve seen, and the waves kept coming! Do yourself a favor and book with 808 Surf School!

Had a blast with Andy! Our family was visiting from Alaska and wanted to get a little surf time in. The beach we took our lesson was across the street from where we were staying in Punaluu, super convenient and great learners beach spot. He was chill and a great teacher, my kids were ages 9, 11, 14, 17 and my husband and I did the lesson as well. 🤙🏽

We had an incredible experience with 808 Surf School! Our family of four (ages 11 to 52) took a lesson with Mike as our instructor, and we couldn’t be more pleased. We asked for a bit of a challenge, and Mike delivered—pushing us just enough to grow our skills while always keeping us safe and confident. His communication was clear and encouraging, and he worked tirelessly to make sure we got exactly the experience we were hoping for. The balance of fun, challenge, and safety made it a perfect session for both the kids and adults. Mike’s professionalism and positive energy truly made this one of the highlights of our trip. Great private lesson for the three of us: myself (male 46 YO), son 13 YO and daughter 10 YO. Coach Jerry was experienced, confident and relatable. My daughter changed her mind last minute, but he too care of her, rode the board with her to enjoy the waves and build confidence. Could not ask for more.

Andy and Mike were great keeping in contact with the changing tides. Andy was the instructor for 2 teens and 2 young adults and did amazing! They all were able to get on the boards and really enjoyed their time. It was so much fun to watch! Highly recommend!!!

Andy was our instructor. Great guy! He was fantastic! Patient with us Montana surf newbies. All 3 of us got up by the end. The 1st 20 min was intruction and.the rest was in the water figuring it out. Highly recommend.

This was a great experience! Andy did an amazing job making sure we understood everything before getting in the water. I would definitely take lessons from him again! He is very encouraging and patient when he teaches, and tells you what adjustments to make when needed.

Our surf experience with 808 surf school was a 10/10. Both Mike and Andy were extremely friendly, helpful and fun!!! They made my first experience surfing something I will not forget. A MUST DO when visiting Oahu, looking forward to going back.

My three teens (ages 13-18) had an awesome first-time surfing trip with Hugo!! They loved it so much they went back for another excursion with him the next day! We were grateful for Hugo’s instruction and kindness, but Hugo expressed his genuine gratitude for us. The surf school also importantly chose a suitable location for us - and literally we were the only surfers learning out there at that time, so we definitely appreciated not being in a crowded place.

808 Surfing is a GREAT experience! We got lessons for 3 of us (2 girls 6&8 yrs old) first time surfing. Hugo was our instructor and as a dad taking lessons with his daughters, Hugo was awesome. He catered to the kids and made them feel comfortable and ensured they had fun!

My 3 kids did a private lesson today with Andy. Our experience from booking with Mike to surfing with Andy was top notch. He was so great with the kids, incredibly accommodating and went above and beyond to give them an amazing unforgettable experience. Our family had a private group surf lesson with Hugo and Andy and it was a lot of fun. They were very personable and professional and made us feel comfortable. The communication was good and they were prepared when we arrived. We even had jugs of warm water to rinse off with after it was over. Every single person in our group was standing up on the board on the first and second try. Would definitely use this group again. They even gave us dinner and snorkeling recommendations. Mahalo!

Up on the North Shore of Oahu for our son’s wedding. We booked 3 separate sessions with Andy at 808 Surf School and everyone had a great time. 12 different surfers, mainly beginners and everyone got up and had a blast!! Andy is super encouraging and you get a ton of reps which is what you want. We’re excited to come back and take it to the next level!!

Going surfing was definitely a MUST to our trip to Oahu. We had Andy for our private group session with friends. Andy was a phenomenal instructor with great energy and so much fun! He directed us to a pretty quiet spot on the north shore and the waves just kept on coming! By the end of the lesson, we were all able to catch awesome waves. He provided all our gear, water to rinse off after, and then took our group photo. He made sure we all had a great time and provided some great recommendations for other things to do on our visit to Hawai’i. Thank you Andy!!!

This surf lesson was one of my favorite activities from our trip to Oahu! Andy is AWESOME! He was so much fun and made sure our whole group had a GREAT time. He is super upbeat and a great surf instructor! Our group was new to surfing and Andy had us all standing by the end! We were staying in a Turtle Bay Villa next to the Turtle Bay Resort, so I almost booked a surf lesson for my four daughters (ages 12-20) on site. Then I did a little more research and found 808 Surf School. I was very glad I did. Not only were their fees for a private group lesson significantly less expensive, but the girls had a great time! Booking the lesson on-line was easy, and the school and coach communicated in a timely fashion via text. Shout out to the girls' coach, Hugo! His lessons were easy to follow, he made the girls comfortable, and passed on great tips. In no time they were up on their boards and having a blast. We did many fun things in Oahu, but the girls said their surf lesson was on the top of their list!

Hands down the best surf school on the island. Great price and even better service. Kaiser was the best instructor, he knows he stuff and he was phenomenal with my 2 sons, 14 and 8. They were both catching waves all on their own by the end of the 2 hour session. I highly recommend 808 surf school, and specifically Kaiser.

My family of 4 had never surfed before and thought it would be fun to try. Hugo, our instructor, was friendly, knowledgeable, and patient. He did a great job coaching all of us, but especially my kids (8 and 10). We all got up within the first couple tries and continued to do so throughout the lesson. We all felt much more comfortable having the instruction to ourselves rather than be in a large group like other companies offer. I highly recommend booking your lesson through 808!

Will and Hugo did a great job instructing our family. My 9 year old figured out how to stay on the board following their instruction. We all had a great time with our first time trying to surf. I highly recommend 808, you won’t be disappointed.

These guys are the absolute best. My wife and I were on our honeymoon, coming from the Midwest neither of us had ever touched a surf board before and TBH we were a little intimidated by the idea. We had the absolute best experience with Mike and Will. Can’t say enough great things about these guys. They picked the perfect location where the waves were good but not too big. Will was super charismatic and patient with us, a great communicator and an excellent teacher. We both successfully rode waves our first time trying and had so much fun! 10/10

We had a private group lesson of 6 of us 3 adults and 3 kids 12-16. we loved every minute of it. Mike and his brother were great and total professionals. Surfing is tiering even the kids were tired after and hour or so, so 2 hours is plenty and allows you to take a break or just take turns and whoever is resting can take pics. that's the one thing I wish we had done was have one of us take photos while we were actually surfing. we will definitely hook back up with Mike when we return in December. would highly recommend!

Mike was a fantastic instructor to family. Picked a great location for first lesson to maximize runs for beginner levels on Winward side by Huala. Great coaching on the basics and progress made by all. Setup a second lesson later in week we were so impressed. Second lesson by North Shore, Kaika Bay. Another great location for our level.

I was fortunate to get instruction with 808 Surf School with Mike Cao. There are a lot of Surf lessons places on North Shore and it really makes a difference on who you choose. I contacted 808 because of the 5 star reviews. I booked a private session with Mike and he opened his calendar for Thanksgiving morning! Really really cool. We met early in morning , and gave me a solid lesson. knowledgeable, professional, and will work with all levels of ability. I appreciated the knowledge, vibe, and they care about the quality of the lesson to the customer. I proceeded and booked multiple days of private lessons with Mike. A total of 3 separate days. If you are coming to North Shore and never surfed or want to surf better but need help. Contact 808 Surf School. It will make your trip a lot better!

808 was a perfect experience for a first time surf! I felt comfortable, safe, and learned quite a lot from Mike. He was very thorough in explanation and great with feedback after each wave. He is a motivating and fun teacher who shows a great love for what he does. Highly recommended! Can't wait to go again!

We took a girls trip to Oahu and one of the highlights was definitely surf lessons with Mike. We were in our own group of three women and got at least 10-15 waves each. Mike gave us feedback after each wave so that we would continue to improve on each try. We really felt like he wanted us to have fun and be as successful as we could being surf novices. Mike gave us great dryland instruction prior to entering the water, I could tell he was honing in our technique so that we would have our best chance of standing on the surf board as much as possible. We felt safe throughout the lesson, he kept his eye out on all three of us to make sure we were all safe and moving along in the right direction. On our next family vacation, I would definitely trust Mike to do surf lessons with my sons.

Responsive and helpful while scheduling the lesson. Mike taught my girls, ages 11 and 14, to surf during a two hour lesson. His instructions were clear and quick with the right amount of emphasis on what to do and what not to do. Both my daughters said he was super nice and supportive while they were out in the water. Such a great experience. Highly recommend! Note: We were staying in Waikiki, but drive up to the north shore for the lesson. It was a beautiful drive and a great excuse to see another part of the island.

My 9 year old son Ronan and I joined Mike in the North Shore on our last day on Oahu. Fantastic experience and Mike practiced patience with varying levels of skill between us. Mike and his assistant were very prepared and great teachers. They took our three daughters (21, 18, and 15) out for the first time and built up their confidence by giving a quick on-shore lesson and telling them they would get them up with no problem. As it turned out our daughters did get up on the surfboard multiple times and had the time of their life!! It's been the highlight of their trip so far! Thanks Mike and Hery!!

I had my first surf lesson with Mike Cao in Haliewa, and it was fantastic! He took our group out to an incredibly easy-to-learn surf spot, and we went as long as we could before the waves tired us out. He's friendly, understanding, and definitely someone you want to learn from.

We scheduled a surf lesson for my 50th Birthday for myself and three adult children with Mike. Of our group I was the only one that wanted to go surfing, the others were just accommodating me for my birthday. As we were all beginners Mike picked a beach with relatively small waves. Mikes teaching style and ability to read the waves ensured that we all got up on our boards the first or second attempt. During the course of the lesson he swapped surf boards and gave me a smaller one and one of our group who was struggling a larger one. He kept the challenges there and ensured that everyone had the proper equipment for their ability. For the next two hours we would paddle out to Mike who would either push us off or tell us when to start paddling so that we could catch the next wave. Mike also gave us advice on places to go and things to do during our stay. That evening all of my kids were discussing going surfing again before we left. I found all of the surf schools to be similarly priced and I would highly recommend Mike and 808 surf school.

Our 3 daughters (ages 8,12, & 16) had the best surf lesson with Mike! A surf lesson was #1 on the list of things to do in Hawaii for our oldest daughter and 808 Surf School did not disappoint. We had so much fun watching our girls learn to surf! Mike is an outstanding teacher. He is very patient and experienced. All 3 girls were successful in learning to surf...our 8 year old rode a wave all the way to shore on her very first try. We would definitely recommend Mike to anyone looking to take a lesson. We will definitely be back for more lessons next time we are in Haleiwa!
