Private 2 Hour Surf Lessons With Experienced Coaches

I’ve always wanted to try surfing, but I’ve felt intimidated and talked myself out of it. This trip I decided to force myself to take the chance and sign up! I half-jokingly requested “the kindest most patient instructor” knowing they probably feel that way about their entire MSG team - but I have to say I feel like that’s exactly who they gave us :) Andrew is the kindest, most gentle soul. I was so nervous that I was wondering if I made a mistake signing up, but as soon as we showed up, Andrew made us feel comfortable. He taught us about how waves form, what channels are and how to spot them, and step by step what to do once we’re in the ocean. He took away any pressure whatsoever and made it fun and lighthearted. He even reassured us it’s okay if we forget everything because he’ll be out there to remind us - and he did! We were both able to stand up multiple times and had a blast!! I genuinely can’t think of a better human to be a first time surf instructor. Anyone would be lucky to take a lesson with Andrew. We would’ve spent the entire day with him if we could! We were not at all surprised to learn that he also substitute teaches - we’re sure he’s amazing at that, too. If you’re looking for a kind, patient, reassuring instructor who would also be amazing with kids - Andrew is your guy! The cherry on top was meeting our photographer Mario and his sweet dogs Mochi and Cielo. Mario is so lovely to be around and we enjoyed learning a little more about his life & seeing pictures of his wife Kiki surfing! He also took great pictures for us, of course!! Our 9 year old girl has been a water baby or mermaid since the beginning, but we can now say she is a surfer girl! Jedi was super supportive and got me up on the surfboard in no time. I honestly didn't think it was possible due to issues with my knees. He was very patient with me and cheered me on every step of the way. It was an amazing experience and I learned so much about the geography of the ocean, the etiquette of surfing and most especially the Zen of being at one with the ocean. Thank you, Jedi!

I have never surfed before and truly had a blast! Dan was a phenomenal instructor and helped me feel comfortable and confident on the water. By the end of the lesson, I was surfing slightly bigger and faster waves! Kiki the photographer also captured exceptional photos during the lessons. We had such a wonderful experience with Maui Surf Girls! My husband and I had a semi private lesson with Dan and we both got up on so many waves! Our daughter had a private lesson doing tandem surfing with Natalie and she was so proud of herself and stood up over and over again. I was very impressed with the entire process from learning about where to catch the waves and swim back to being out on the water. The care for safety (especially for our child) and the environment was clear. I can’t say enough positive things about our experience with Natalie and Dan. Thank you so much!!!

Had an amazing time! My sister and I had taken a surf lesson before with another company, but surfing with Andrew was a completely different experience. We learned so much, had an absolute blast, and felt way more confident in the water afterward. Andrew was patient, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience really fun. Couldn’t recommend this enough!

My 7yr old son and I completed a 2-hour surf lesson with Kelly (my instructor) and Jedi (my son's instructor). It was the MOST fun we had in Hawaii and we did a million incredible things while there. I will hold on to that memory forever. I wish the day lasted 10 hours because 2 was not enough. Kelly was incredibly knowledgable and started from how the ocean flows and how waves work in this type of ocean to me riding in without wiping out on a few waves at the end. She is patient, kind, conversational, and one of those people you feel that you have known forever. I have never felt more safe and comfortable out in the ocean. Jedi was amazing with our son. He kept our sons attention the whole time and knew exaclty how to interact with kids and allowed for play time between teaching and made teaching fun. He took the time to stop and play in the sand, cracked a coconut open and taught our son how to drink from it and eat from it. Our son caught multiple waves with Jedi's help on the board and he was so sad when the lesson was over. I would spend the month 1,000,000 times over and I would do it every time I go. I am even going to sign up next year for the women's surf camp because I just want more.

My daughter (age 7) and myself had an amazing time learning from Maggie and Dan. My daughter was so nervous before her lesson, and Maggie immediately put her at ease; she gained enough confidence to stand up on the board three times! Dan was really encouraging and helpful, and I loved his laid back approach!

Wow! We had terrible weather but they were very easy to work on rescheduling with and it was really fun! I definitely recommend them for sure! Natalie was our guide and she was fun and very enthusiastic and encouraging. Love this company and would highly recommend going with them! Awesome Job! Thank you

I booked a private lesson for my 10 year old daughter. She had Jamie who immediately made her feel comfortable and helped her catch 5-6 waves which was great. The beach was easy to find and I set up a chair and umbrella to watch from shore. Recommend bringing binoculars so you can see your surfer because they are pretty far out. Also, recommend the professional photos that are taken.

Maggie was an amazing surf instructor for my two boys, ages 10 and 7, during their first lesson. I was nervous, but she quickly eased my worries with her calm, friendly approach. She explained how waves form, taught the steps clearly, and was excellent with safety. The kids had a great time and felt confident thanks to her. Highly recommend!

I had my first-ever surfing lesson with Gina from Maui Surfer Girls, and it was incredible! At age 50, I’d never even held a surfboard - but Gina’s skill and encouragement turned this into an experience I’ll never forget. She taught me everything - ocean dynamics, safety, surf etiquette, and step-by-step technique to get up on the board. She guided me with gentle instruction, did most of the hard paddling, and gave me just the right amount of support to feel safe while still challenging myself. By the end of the private lesson, I was standing and riding wave after wave. Gina’s teaching style is empowering, confidence-building and joyful. I left feeling proud and exhilarated. I can’t recommend Gina and the Maui Surfer Girls organization enough - they also offer girls surf camps and run a wonderful community outreach program - to anyone looking to try surfing!

Had a private lesson with Jedi. Experience was top notch. Super informative and had a blast. Jedi was a great coach. Told me exactly what my weak spots were and I was able to catch more waves because of it. Day was great and the waves set up for long rides. Awesome location with epic views. I’ve done other lessons at other locations with other coaches. From booking to end, MSG was the best organized and run. Would definitely return!

My 10 year old daughter and husband did a private lesson with Raul and Rick as their instructors and it was AWESOME. They were both encouraging with kids and really took their time. She rode multiple waves and raved about the lesson as the highlight of our trip. In addition, Maui Surfer Girls communicated clearly in advance, offered photos of the experience, and taught both of them so much. This experience and the teachers were way beyond our expectations-highly recommend them!

Jedi and Natalie were awesome with our kids! My kids are neurodivergent and these two don’t even blink an eye. They made my hesitant child say it was amazing when it was over and my adventurous kid ate up every minute. Thank you for this awesome experience and giving these tired parents two hours to watch and enjoy our kids having fun!

These surfing lessons were one of the highlights of our trip to Maui! Our instructors - Anne-Marie and Natalie - were so patient with our first-time 8- and 9-year olds, and our girls were up on their boards on the first try!, and multiple times, during their time in the water. I was so impressed. We appreciated that they focused on safety and technique but then were also the biggest cheerleaders with each attempt. I'd also highly recommend Jungle Rootz - the photograther on site - as we got some of the best pictures of our trip from this experience.

Had a private lesson for our 8 year old daughter. She had a great time and it was so fun for us to see her have so much fun learning something new. The instructor was fantastic.

Our almost 10 year old had the private lesson and absolutely loved working with Dustin. It was definitely a highlight of the trip. We had a semi-private lesson for me and our 15 year old which was also fantastic. They focused on technique and safety, but also made sure we were having a blast. Everyone was really personable and after each run, the instructor gave a tip to make the next one even better. I didn't know a photographer would be on site, but that was a perfect add-on to capture the memories. We'll schedule with them again on our next visit to Maui!

Maggie and her team were amazing!! This was a highlight of our trip to Maui. My kids had the best day learning to surf. The instructors were kind, knowledgeable and patient- can’t wait to do this again!

Our two grandsons, 5 1/2 and 9 1/2 had private lessons. Jay (the 9 1/2 year old) was with Andrew and Matthew (the 5 1/2 year old) was with Jedi. Both instructors were AMAZING. They each assessed their kid, Andrew figuring out what Jay needed to improve, and Jedi, figuring out what Matthew needed to get comfortable in the ocean and on the board. I can't say enough about these two instructors. They were present, engaged, fully attentive, patient. And of course, masters of their boards and the ocean. The boys both felt confident and happy when the lessons were over, and felt like they both now had a cool, new, older brother.

My 8 y/o daughter and I did private surf lessons and I'm so glad we chose Maui Surfer Girls for her first time surfing. Her instructor, Sloane, was so kind and gentle and was with her the entire time, ensuring her safety while also having a blast. My instructor Rick was also amazing and made us feel safe and excited to get on the waves. Seeing my daughter's confidence soar as she tried something new was a 10/10 experience. Wonderful experience with Sloan. She has patience with the under 12 group and private. My family lives here on Maui and we drove by 4 surf schools just to be with the Maui Surfer Girls. Send your boys too. We loved it and staff. Looking forward to our next lesson

Thanks to my instructor I was riding my own waves by the end of the lesson and felt comfortable enough to rent a board and try again on my own the next day! My instructor, Jedi, was knowledgeable and experiential. He helped me find my confidence while still engaging me in my growth edges. Feeling inspired to come back for a surfer retreat immersion with Maui Surfer Girls this winter!

I had a blast surfing with Raul this week! He did a great job teaching me all best tips and tricks to not only be successful out in the water, but how to be safe while surfing! This was definitely a highlight of the trip and I’m so glad that I did it! I was able to successfully get up and surf waves. If you are on the fence, book the surf lesson… you won’t regret it!

My 7yo boy is super interested in swimming and water sports. He had never surfed before. I booked a private lesson with Kelly for him. She was SO kind and skilled at explaining surfing in a way he could understand and practice. Kelly had a lot of experience teaching kids and it showed. He had a great experience. Amazing group and amazing lesson, I strongly recommend Maui Surfer Girls and Kelly.

4 teenagers from our trip took a surf lesson and everyone loved it! The instructor was clear and supportive. Every girl was up on the board multiple times and would want to do it again in the future. Pictures from the photographer were great, and allowed us to just watch the lesson.

So glad I found Maui Surf Girls for my 11 year old grand daughters first surf experience. She has high anxiety but Jedi was perfect for her. She had the best time and was up on her board quickly with his guidance. She came out of the water with the biggest smile and we ended up scheduling another date during our trip. Everyone encouraged her and were amazing but I highly recommend Jedi again. Loved the pictures the photographer took also.

My two kids (9 and 4) took private lessons (one on one) while my wife and I did a semi-private to have a "family" surf lesson. It was more than we could have hoped for. Jedi was a phenomenal instructor for our 4 year old boy. He was kind and made it a lot of fun. He knew just how to talk to our son to ease him into the water and get him standing up on the board (tandem riding). Raul was the instructor for my daughter. He set her at ease as well and was a great encourager. He got my daughter standing in no time and rode beside her on the waves to help get her paddled back out. It was an unforgettable experience for our first time surfing! I highly recommend Maui Surfer Girls. Kiki, the photographer, got some amazing shots as well! 10 out of 10 and worth every penny! The private lessons help too keep it personal as you get to know your instructors and bond with them. Surfing is a lot about "feeling" the ocean and the MSG team does a great job fostering that!

We had such a blast with this crew. My husband and I had our own instructors and our 10 yo twins shared an instructor. It worked out perfectly for us. All of us popped up on our boards almost immediately and many times over. Their location is great for beginners and they knew where we wouldn't have to fight the waves to get back out there. We also had the area almost exclusively to ourselves and didn't have to worry about riding into other people (except each other, ha!). Super positive and encouraging, we had our own cheering squad every time each of us rode a wave. *Ladies, take their advice and wear tights, it'll make it more enjoyable. Highly recommend!

We had a great experience with Maui surfer girls. Our surf trainer Jedi was really patient and helped us catch multiple waves. They do a nice job teaching safety and the basics before going out. They are all about having fun and not making it stressful. They did a nice job capturing good photos as well.

Daughter asked to learn surfing again in Maui after had the first lesson in Kona. Out of all option I chose to support girls business :). Less than 24 hrs before class starts, I was told that the next day waves would be flated / poor and won't be a good day to learn surfing. I reached out and MAUI SURFING GIRLS was really understanding, they checked wave report and confirmed the information I received was accurat and allowed me to move lesson date to another day, with no penalty. And below are the review from my 8 yrs old. Maggie is very kind and understanding about surfing and she can teach you about sea life while waiting for a good wave. (We saw whales flipping their tales so many times) She tell you about the area that you about to be surfing, and tell how to turn the board easily. In term of location, beach park is easy to find, beach kind of shallow so I feel safe to have my daughter learn there. Maggie's was fast to get to my daughter after she fell out of hear board. All in all great experience. We plan to come back to Maui again and will absolutely book another lesson with her

Surfing was something I had wanted to try forever and finally at age 60 I did and I forced myself to daughter and her boyfriend to join me. We all had fun. The instructors are very positive and patient and work very hard to make sure everyone has a great experience. You will not regret trying surfing with Maui Girls. I would take more lessons if I return.

My instructor, Jedediah (Jedi) was exceptional. In such a short time, I was up on my knees, arms outstretched on wave after wave ! He explains Everything in terms of Hawaiian culture, beliefs and RESPECT for the ocean! I not only relaxed into my very first time catching waves as a 71 yr old (girl) while never feeling afraid. I will continue until I can stand up on my own! This was no fault of Jedi or MSG! Only my own bodies limitations. I am going again in 2 days!!! Highly recommend!

Jedidiah (Jedi) White is an accomplished surfer and skilled teacher. He matches his style and level of instruction to the student. Next time I’m in Maui I’ll book another lesson with Maui Surfer Girls and Jedi.

Booked a private lesson with Jedi for 11 year old daughter. He was an amazing coach, he taught her how to surf and was her 1st time. In 2 hours, she was doing big waves, he teaches you to have confidence and he was really kind. Was amazing experience.
