We had an amazing time! Carol was a fantastic teacher. She gave us clear instructions and made sure we had plenty of opportunities to be successful. She really went out of her way to make sure we had a great experience. Communication was excellent and she even gave us some great tips for the rest of our trip. Highly recommend!!
We loved this experience. We had plenty of instructors for our family of seven and got great pictures. My four-year-old was on a surfboard with Carol the entire time and had a blast. All the rest of us surfed on our own boards. One of my children summed it up by saying it was like being with friends on the ocean and not surf instructors. Every single one of us got up on a wave.
We had such a great time with North Shore Surf Girls. Carol and Lilly were fantastic instructors and made the whole experience fun and easy for our family. They gave clear instructions on land, stayed right there with us in the water, and made sure everyone felt safe and confident. The lessons were paced perfectly – enough time to learn the basics but plenty of time in the water. I was able to stand up and ride my very first wave, something I didn’t think I’d do on day one. Watching everyone in our family catch waves and cheer each other on made it even better. It was a highlight of our trip and something we’ll all remember. If you’re looking for surf lessons on the North Shore, I highly recommend them.
My family of 4 went surfing with North Shore surf girls today and had an absolutely fantastic time! Our surf instructors, Brendan and Mikayla (sp?) we're so personable and helpful, and we learned so much from them. All 4 of us were able to stand up on the board and caught some good waves even on a day with small surf. Highly recommend! Great memories made, and I can check this off my bucket list. Hope to be back someday.
We had an amazing surf lesson with Jasmin. She was kind, super skilled, and seamlessly adjusted her instruction and approach as the lesson unfolded. It was also fun to have Hank the photographer along too. He was kind of the water, unobtrusive, but also captured some great shots at a reasonable price. I would definitely recommend North Shore Surf Girls!
We had an amazing experience. We saw a lot of turtles and it was a wonderful time. They even had a chair for my mother who rather watched :) Without a doubt the best surfing lesson I ever had!
Aimee is so good we returned a second time on vacation. Our daughters abilities became that much stronger in just two lessons. We will be back! Aimee is so patient and fun!
So much fun! Had my 16 year old son, two young adult daughters, and my 20 something son and his wife. We all got up! I’m over 50 and got up on the first wave. I chose North Shore Surf Girls because I wanted it to be low key and it was. Highly recommend!
Treated my daughters (28yo,25yo) to a semi private lesson with Northshore Surf Girls. It was a wonderful first time experience for both of them. Weather was a bit windy, surf a bit rough but they rocked it. Emma? their instructor (Sorry I only heard her name once) was attentive to each of the girls as they alternated instruction and catching waves. The location of the day was easy to find, easy to park and a pleasant location to watch from. It was also fun to watch some of the locals surfing! Professional photos at the end was a nice surprise and much better than the ones I took on my iPhone. My girls felt safe, received good feedback on their progress, worked hard and had fun. Would definitely recommend them.
Lilia was the best person to go with! My friend and I went with two different skill levels and she adapted to us both. This sport can be intimidating, but she made us feel comfortable and pushed us to enjoy the experience and ride as many waves as possible! She definitely deserves a raise!
We had an amazing time learning to surf with our amazing instructors Remi and Josh! They were so helpful and had such great instructions on how to get up on the board! The camera man Hank was amazing as well, pictures were perfect 😍, If you are learning to surf book here!!!
My instructor was Carol. I took a lesson with her on June 2024, she was very nice as well as professional. Her instructions were clear and very helpful. In addition, Carol gave helpful tips throughout the duration of the lesson to ensure success. Overall, I would recommend a lesson with Carol. :)
Epic surf lesson. Adults and kids! My 9 year looooved it! Aimee was incredible. She rode 10 waves. Great for beginners! The location was gorgeous and there was a photographer who offered photos for $40. So worth it!!!!
My sister and I wanted to attempt to surf not having much confidence in our abilities. We saw the North Shore Surf Girls truck and met Carol and felt comfortable immediately and booked a semi-private lesson. She was so helpful giving us good instruction before we got in the water and once we paddled out she made it so easy and non-intimidating for us to catch waves. Both my sister and I accomplished our goals of standing up and riding waves in on the North Shore. I highly recommend North Shore Surf Girls. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. By the way I’m 59 and my sister is 61– now we are surfer girl grandmas!!!! :)
We had a great time with Carol. I was with my two teens and the 3 of us were able to hop on the board and surf the wave almost instantaneously! Carol was able to guide us to take the good waves and gave us individual adapted tips after each wave. We loved it and truly recommend!
Excellent surf lesson for the whole family at a reasonable price. Technique session on the beach followed by one on one instruction in the water. Extra care and attention for awareness of water/reef safety and working with children was highly appreciated. Strongly recommend this company.

The experience was top notch! I booked the experience two days earlier and was excited that they had room for us. The morning of, we received more specific instructions and asked if we would be willing to move our time up an hour (which worked perfectly for us). I loved supporting a woman owned business and anticipated a woman instructor. Though shocked to learn they had multiple instructors some of which (maybe just one) are male, Josh was amazing! He gave us a great experience and we absolutely loved learning how to surf. I was initially nervous about riding a famous North Shore wave, the cove we learned in was very safe and fun! Highly recommend! They provide you a rash guard . I would encourage some yoga skin tight leggings as well as to not get rash burn from sitting to paddling on your board.
I brought my adult kids and my grandkids and these ladies did a remarkable job teaching them all. Very impressive! Every one of them--from 10 to 42 years old-- was thrilled to be out on the waves. We will definitely come back and do it again!
Great coach. She took her time with us and was very supportive in the water. Obviously very experienced, as she able to get 2 middled aged total newbies almost on our feet surfing. I would definitely recommend them if you are looking for surf lessons on the North Shore
My two sons and I had a 2 hour lesson from Josh in July. Josh was a fantastic instructor. He was encouraging and patient with us. I didn’t do that well because I got seasick and had to quit mid way into our lesson. However my boys did really well and were able to ride wave after wave. They were happy that they learned to surf and on top of of that, it was on the North Shore! Thanks Josh for your great work!
Carol (owner) and Aimee (manager) were our surf guides and we were in good hands. They provided differentiated instruction for all six of us (two adults and four teen/young adults at differing fitness levels). In two hours, all six of us made it to a stand and rode some waves. It was nice to support a female-owned and run company and they interacted well with all us and were great with "older" first timers. This was our kids' favorite activity of our Hawaiian vacation. And super-cute women's t-shirts for sale too. (Wear loads of sunscreen on the backs of your legs - all six of us fried).
The ladies with North Shore Surf Girls did an excellent job teaching my two boys in their beginner surfing lessons. They were both able to stand up on their boards and had a great time. Definitely recommend!
Great time! Cora and Nu’u were our coaches, both were super friendly & personable. Cora gave very clear instructions during training and they both gave direction out in the water. This was the first time our group tried surfing and we all stood up on boards. Favorite activity we’ve done on the island. Highly recommend.
My friend and I originally signed up for a beginner group lesson, and we enjoyed it so much that we ended up doing two more semi-private lessons. All of our instructors were fantastic - they are extremely knowledgeable and supportive, and will progress you through different skills as you’re ready. They also take the safety of their students very seriously. I can’t recommend them enough!
This is the best surf school ever!!!! Aimee, our teacher is so professional and such an amazing person! She got our whole group up and riding every wave. She reads the ocean so perfectly- a true water woman! Would go again in a heartbeat and WELL worth it!!!
Our family of 4 had an amazing experience with North Short Surf Girls. My husband and I are in our mid 40’s and we have 9 and 13 year old daughters. All four of us had never surfed before and we were all able to get up and ride many waves. We received excellent instruction, loved the family time in the water, and just enjoyed the experience! I would highly recommend.
Carol and Josh were fantastic! We had so much fun learning to surf with them. Really appreciated Carol’s lessons on surfing strategy and etiquette. My husband and I and our 19 year old son were all able to stand right away.
Best!!! Our niece was visiting from South Africa and she wanted to try surfing in Hawaii. So we signed up 4 people and they all had a fantastic time. Our niece couldn’t stop talking about how good the lessons were. It made their experience THE highlight of this trip.

It was our first time to Hawaii and this was the best way to spend our trip! We got away from Waikiki and came to a calm beach and the best instructor! We learned quickly how to surf and we will be back again soon!
Remi was awesome! My wife was super nervous to try surfing but in under an hour she was standing up on the board catching waves and it was her favorite activity on our whole trip.
My two daughters had a surfing lesson and it could not have been better! The staff texted the morning of and sent us the exact location where they would be. We arrived, the provided a rash guard and basic instructions. They helped my girls get up and their photographer captured these precious moments. We would recommend this group to absolutely everyone!
My 13 and 11 year old took lessons with Mikal (not sure how to spell) and she did a great job! She was friendly and fun! Both kids were able to get up on their first try with her guidance.
We had a great time with Anita and Josh. Josh was very patient with us first-timers. He was quite incredible towing us out to the surf with this TOE! I can't believe he was that strong and was able to maneuver the waves and tow us. He called out instructions on when the stand and ride the wave. I would have lost all patience, but he was kind and considerate. Good coach. I recommend.
We made last minute reservations with North Shore Surf Girls and we are so glad that we did. Carol was so accommodating with our reservation and Lilly was great instructor! We had a great time out on the water and would highly recommend the 2-hour class for beginners! Neither of us had surfed before and we were both able to stand-up multiple times! Such a great experience! Would highly recommend!

We couldn't have had a better first experience surfing. Marjorie was our instructor and made us feel welcome and at ease. She was clear in her explanations and gave us concise feedback to improve our technique. Marjorie has a great energy and gave us a lot of laughs as well as a lot of waves! We caught and rode several great waves and it gave us the confidence to go out on our own. Though when we come back to Oahu, we're going to ride with Marjorie again for some advanced lessons! 🤙
We have been coming back to North Shore Surf Girls for the past 6 years and they ALWAYS make it a memorable, fun, and safe day! And big bonus... we have always caught a wave and stood up because of their determination to help us find a wave and shout out instructions on what to do. On this trip, I came with a party of 4 adults and 1 child; 2 of them with no surf experience ever. Carol and her team accommodated us - we had both Carol & Josh (the 2 best instructors ever) and we so appreciate their ability to teach, calm, and get in the ocean with all and give us the most incredible surf experience ever. We ALL got up (2 of us being over 50)! And, thank you Josh, for giving me and my son a "Party Wave" - surfing with my son right by my side... seriously, we will never forget it. Mahalo! We can't wait to use you again!!!!
My daughter and I took a two hour lesson. Ray, our instructor, was so kind, relaxed, and attentive. We’ve both surfed before, but my 16yr old popped right up like she didn’t forget a thing. I, on the other hand, have aged and don’t have near the balance of my daughter...lol. I still managed to get up on the board, albeit short lived. The most fun I had was watching my daughter’s self-confidence soaring. This has been a tough year for her and Ray could not have been a better fit as he cheered, encouraged, and helped her catch wave after wave. I wish we lived near the surf as I’d like to see how good she could be. She was tired, but proclaimed her experience as the best day in a long time 🤙🏻🏄♂️. As a parent, I can’t thank NSSG and Ray enough for the lesson, but also for making this a really special day for my daughter. Special thanks to Josh for helping me out of the surf through the crazy winds.....you rock!!!
My husband and I did a semi private surf lesson with Makal and had a blast! She did such a great job teaching us and giving us the confidence to find a wave for ourselves. I was super nervous about surfing but now I'm HOOKED!
My husband and I took lessons with NSSG. McCall was our instructor and she was awesome! Highly recommend. We caught wave after wave pretty much the entire 2 hours. Totally worth it and better than previous surf lessons I have received elsewhere.
We had an overall great experience with Surf Girls. Carol was very friendly and communicated well as far as what to expect and where we needed to go. Amy was our instructor and was a great teacher and encourager. My husband, son, and myself all caught our first wave and it’s all thanks to Amy! The waves and the location was perfect and we were very pleased with our experience!
Carol was absolutely amazing! I’m extremely uncoordinated but I got up on every wave thanks to her thorough teachings! I had learned from someone else before who told me to just stand up and “feel it”. She went into such great detail on what to do and what not to do. The conversation in between sets was amazing as well. 12/10 would recommend
During the lesson both my girlfriend and were able to stand up while riding a wave many times. Carol was a passionate teacher who took genuine pride in our success. She was easy to talk to while waiting for waves and acted like we were just out there hanging out on the water with her giving tips and pushing us when we needed it. Overall, a great experience and will reccomend to our friends and family.

I have wanted to surf my whole life, so it was important to me who I chose for my family's private lesson. I ran across NSSG online and they had great reviews, so we booked. The lesson didn't end up being private, but we did not feel rushed or neglected at all. Both Carol and Jenn are excellent instructors. They had everyone in the group up and surfing within an hour of starting. The instructions were thorough and easy to follow. They even took time afterwards to take a board to the beach and snap a photo of my family. I was very impressed and will 100% use them again!
