Oahu Private Surfing Lesson

Our 9 year old son had a private lesson with Remy. He had an incredible experience and is still talking about it days later—definitely his Hawaiian highlight! Our son was nervous surfing for the first time, but Remy was kind and patient. We couldn't have asked for a better instructor and are grateful for the memories.

I had a great experience with North Shore Surf Girls! My instructor, Lawrence, was amazing. He gave me the tips and guidance I needed to stay safe and improve my surfing. I had quite a few wipeouts and even reached a point where I wanted to end the lesson early, but Lawrence encouraged me to keep going and stay positive. Thanks to his patience and support, I was able to catch a wave by the end of the lesson. Catching that wave made the entire experience unforgettable and gave me a real sense of accomplishment. For an additional fee, they also had a photographer there to capture the experience, which was a great way to preserve the memories and celebrate the progress I made during the lesson. I highly recommend North Shore Surf Girls to anyone looking to learn how to surf or improve their skills!

I had a great day with my instructor, Aimee! As a beginning surfer who had only gotten to knees before, she helped me work on my popup technique and had me surfing in on my feet most waves! A great time, I’ll be back! ❤️

My son, daughter and myself had a two-hour private lesson with Amy. She was a fantastic instructor; knowledgeable, warm and friendly and super easygoing. She clearly communicated what she wanted us to do when we were out in the waves and gave us ongoing feedback about ways in which we could improve. At all times we felt safe and confident in her care.

I took a 2 hr. private surfing lesson with North Shore Surf Girls in December. It was the best instructional surfing experience I’ve ever had. Carol Philips, is a master of her craft. Unlike other schools, she focuses on surfing mechanics and explains the "why" behind every action. She provided actionable feedback, prioritized safety and culture, and adapted her teaching perfectly to my learning style. If you want to actually learn how to surf book with North Shore Surf Girls!

I can’t recommend North Shore Surf Girls enough!! Aimee is an amazing surf instructor - I’ve surfed before and am still learning and she helped perfect my form! With her instruction, I had an amazing time riding waves in the North Shore. The beach is also beautiful (saw rainbows for the entire two hours) and the vibes are great! If you’re interested in surf lessons, definitely hit up North Shore Surf Girls!

Aimee was a great and knowledgeable instructor - clearly she is a master of her craft. It was helpful that she gave pointers throughout the lesson! I surfed probably a dozen waves - it was a great time and would be happy to support Aimee and the NSSG again! Mahalo!

Amy was very patient an epic instructor. You must be in good condition to paddle out to the waves. Even though the instructor can tow assist. It will help if you are capable to do the leg work. Or arm work in this case.

I wasn’t sure what to expect, but what we got for our private family lesson was the most remarkable, enjoyable intro to surfing for my teenage girls (one special needs), and a very unathletic- me. Aimee was patient, educational, and strong enough to guide us through the choppy waters and get us up on our boards. Everyone had so much fun , even my youngest with autism who had been in a mood right before the lesson; she had her out in the ocean and completely enthralled by the lesson. We cannot recommend their set up enough, start to finish with the amazing photos and videos that made us all look like pro’s even if I was eating it half the time — hah… wouldn’t go anywhere else — we all loved it and will be back next time.

We had never surfed before and all surfed on our first try! The North Shore Surf Girls instructors were so patient, knowledgeable and kind! We had the best time! If you want to learn to surf, book with the North Shore Surf Girls!!!

I had such a wonderful first time surf experience with the amazing Aimee. She is positive, encouraging, and very experienced. I was able to enjoy catching several waves with her instructions. I highly recommend the experience and cannot wait to learn more from her.

These ladies are fun and so experienced! Our family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids (13,11,8) had the best time and all were able to ride a wave within the first or second attempt. These wahine know hot read the ocean and catch the best waves. We were total beginners. Their photographer was amazing as well. Communication was on point.

My daughter had the best time and the private lesson was well worth it! There were other surfing groups there and none compared to the instructor from North Shore Surf School.

This is my 3rd time using this place to learn to surf. The first time I went was in 2021 because it was a bucket list item. I loved it so much I wanted to do it more, but life got complicated with a new house and stuff. The second time booking surf lessons here was in December 2024, and now my 3rd time was April 2025. I highly recommend them for learning how to surf. Each time I have gone I have successfully gotten up on the board and actually surfed waves. Each time I go I also get significantly better. At home I'm land locked so I don't get to practice what I learn, but if I did I know I would be set up with a great foundation from here. I finally feel like I have muscle memory. I am lucky and get to come to Oahu on business and I'm able to get enough time off to book the 9am private surf lessons. Using their website you can book a type of lesson (private, semi-private, group, etc) and an available time slot for your lesson. I haven't had a hard time booking a couple of days out, but I wouldn't wait until the last second. I don't remember who the instructor was in 2021, but I have been with Aimee in 2024 and today in April 2025. She is an excellent instructor. She goes over how to carry a board, to safety, surfing form, paddle zones, surfing zones, etc. I learn a lot each time and my form get better. She shows you how to do everything and let's you practice in the sand before trying to balance on waves. 1 on 1 instruction works best for me and I get to catch a lot of waves. All the instructors are really fun and bring good vibes to learning to Surf. On the way out and in, there were turtles swimming around too so even though I didn't do the turtle tour I got really lucky and saw some cuties anyway. I can't wait to come back and get another lesson with Aimee, Carol, and the whole team

Aimee is an awesome coach! Very fun very knowledgeable of the ocean and a highly skilled surfer. I learned a lot from my lesson with her.

Our instructor Amy was amazing. She was patient and helpful with my teenagers and my husband, and all three had multiple successful attempts at surfing. They are hooked and can’t wait to come back to Hawaii and do it again! The meeting point was easy to find, all gear was provided, and there was even a photographer that got amazing pictures we could purchase after. North Shore Surf Girls was amazing!

We had an amazing experience with The North Shore Girls! From start to finish, their professionalism and politeness stood out. We felt completely safe the entire time, which made the experience all the more enjoyable. Our instructor, Amy, was absolutely fantastic—she gave clear, helpful feedback and made sure we all felt confident in the water. We really appreciated that we were given plenty of time to catch waves, and it was such a great feeling when everyone in our group was able to stand up on the surfboard! We had such a great time with North Short Surf Girls. My family did a private family lesson and then I did a private lesson as well. Wonderful group of women who are very friendly, supportive, great teachers, and provide a wonderful experience for all ages.

Lilly with NSSG was an amazing surf coach - patient, kind, full of encouraging words, and genuine praise when I got things right!

The lesson was amazing. Lillie (sorry if the writing is not good) was very kind,funny and very educational. We all managed to get up and ride the waves. The place is beautiful and much less crowded than Waikiki I highly recommend this course. My daughters and I loved it so much If you feel a little peckish after surfing Lillie also recommanded us a very nice place to eat after the course : Surf'n'salsa. 5 minute by car a lovely place with delicious foodtrucks Thank you girls for this unforgettable memory.

We had an incredible experience with North Shore Surf Girls! Our instructor, Josh, who coincidentally is also from Jersey, was amazing and great with our kids. Carol, the owner and my daughter’s tandem partner, was the best—she made my kids feel so comfortable surfing for the first time. We highly recommend North Shore Surf Girls and will definitely be back next time we visit Hawaii!

Instructors were awesome and all of my kids did great even our little 9yr old. I would highly recommend. With 2 hours we had plenty of time for multiple runs.

Teen daughter’s single wish for this trip was to learn to surf. Carol delivered! Our daughter enjoyed the entire lesson and learned so much! Carol was a great instructor and taught the “why” for the skills. This helped our daughter become confident in just one lesson. Now she hopes to continue….too bad we don’t have waves at home!

My family and I did a private lesson and had the most amazing time! They took care of the children and adults alike - they had life vests for the kids and even suggested our 6-year-old ride tandem on the front of an a instructor's board to maximize her fun. And let me tell you she had a WONDERFUL time! The instructors (we had Lilly and Josh) were knowledgeable, capable, friendly, and fun. I really loved that so many of the instructors were women. If we come back to Oahu I'd 100% book with them again, and the kids give their vote of confidence as well. Bonus - online booking was super easy.

My husband is an avid surfer so while on honeymoon I wanted to take a lesson to experience it myself. Aimee was my instructor and gave clear directions about when and where to meet and what I needed to bring. After some tutoring on the beach we were out on the water and I was up surfing on my first attempt! I caught several more rides with Aimee’s help. Highly recommend North Shore Surf Girls!

So glad we used North shore Surf girls for our surf lesson. We were on our honeymoon and drove to north shore specifically for surfing. Aimee was so awesome, super knowledgeable, and helped me get up on my first wave! Highly recommend.

North Shore Surf Girls did a great job with our group of 4 teen girls (15, 17, 17, 18)! They all got up and road some waves! We did a private family lesson for 4 and got excellent attention by the instructors for each individual. I highly recommend using this outfit for your family surf experiences!

Absolutely the best memory for our crew of 8. Amy, Josh, and Ellie were so helpful, encouraging and kind. Our whole crew was up and going in 30 minutes, and we will sleep hard tonight after all that surfing! Thanks to Betty for capturing today in pics we will keep for a lifetime. Mahalo!

My boyfriend and I booked the group surf lesson - ended up being just us and it was wonderful. Jen was a great and patient teacher with us. Surf spot was great too! We learned how to surf first on the beach and got to practice on land on the board then went in the water. Jen explained everything thoroughly. She also taught us about Hawaiian culture. There was also a photographer present to take our pictures in action - you can buy the photos after if you’d like.

I was actually afraid of surfing and a little nervous for this lesson. But Aimee made me feel so confident and excited, and as soon as I caught my first wave I couldn't get enough of it! North Shore Surf Girls is a fun company that was easy to search for and book a lesson. Their text updates made the experience stress free and easy, and I love a woman led outdoor company! Take a lesson from one of these awesome ladies and you'll be smiling for days on end, just as I was.

Our family had a blast doing two sessions with Aimee. My daughter summarized it best, “Aimee is such a great instructor. She made me very comfortable with the waves, and she put me on just the right size and condition of a wave. I stood on my first wave, having never stood on a board. Aimee taught me so much from standing on a board to turning and ridding into the beach. I was so lucky to have Aimee as my surf instructor, and I had an amazing experience surfing in Oahu.”

I called in last minute to try to join a group class and the staff were super helpful to help me find an option that fit my schedule. I ended up taking a private with Jen who was amazing and made sure to explain everything super well and went above and beyond to ensure my experience was great!

While visiting Oahu I was looking for a surf lesson with a female surf instructor for my 8 yr old daughter who had never been surfing before. Found NSSG Surf School online and gave them a call. The woman answered all of my questions and I easily scheduled a lesson for the next day. I received text message updates for the location in the morning based on the conditions and we were warmly greeted by the instructor. 10 minutes of instruction on the beach and the two swam off on separate boards into the ocean. My daughter was able to get about about 12 good rides during the 2 hour session and came back to the beach with a big smile. The entire time she was out there I felt confident that her instructor would keep her safe. We will definitely take another lesson with NSSG Surf School when we return to Oahu.

We did the 2 hour private family surf lesson with North Shore Surf Girls and our experience was absolutely AMAZING!!! Carol, Coral and Josh were exceptional instructors and soooo great with our kiddos!! Our 8, 5 and 3 year joined in the entire lesson and had a blast! We had the time of our lives too! The instructors helped us find the perfect waves and we all had some beautifully long surfs. I felt like we were in great hands out there and so did our kids! Our 3 year old happily tandem surfed with Carol and Josh took our 5 year old under his wing and had him up surfing some big sweet waves! Cora was so awesome out there too keeping us going on wave after wave! Our 8 year old did amazing on her own board because the instructors ensured she knew what to do. We never felt rushed and they were all so friendly and kind! We highly recommend the North Shore Surf Girls!!! I also loved that they had a photographer you could purchase photos from there to capture soo many special moments and memories! Thank you Carol, Coral and Josh! Look forward to surfing with you guys again one day!!

First time surfing and Josh had me standing up on the very first wave. He was so kind and helpful I highly recommend him and North Shore Surf Girls. As a 48 year old guy carrying around an extra 30+ lbs, I was honestly nervous about how it would go. My trip to Oahu was a little last minute and I always “planned” to be in better shape but when the trip came together I wasn’t going to miss the opportunity to hit the waves. We met at the Surf Girls truck (which is easy to find) went to the beach and Josh gave me a simple but thorough safety briefing and tips. We were in the water in no time. Here is where his expertise and hard work came through. He did most of the real work for me by towing me out to the sweet spot every time. We paddled past several other schools and instructors and he always seemed to know exactly where to position us. All I ever had to focus on was applying the technique he explained. If I had to do all my own paddling I would have been worn out after 2-3 waves. He was very gracious in answering all my “new guy” questions. I am honestly blown away by how many waves I was able to catch because he instinctively knew where to go every time. I saw several other instructors from other schools sitting and waiting for students to paddle to them or just sitting in the line up not catching. Being with Josh felt like cheating. I don’t mean to gush but I honestly couldn’t have been happier. I will bring my wife and kids back here for sure. Carol was out with a couple young kids and she was obviously great at instructing as well. Carol I hope you read this and give Josh a raise LOL. Bucket list item checked in such a huge way. Take the 2 hour private if you can, but go!!! I am hooked.

Carol is an amazing instructor. We were complete beginners and she made it so easy to understand each step of the process. She was so friendly and encouraging throughout our lesson. We highly recommend her as an instructor!

Overall, we had a wonderful experience learning how to surf with the North Shore Surf Girls. Aimee, our instructor, was friendly, patient, and encouraging. We started by learning the basics of ocean safety, paddling, and how to stand up on the board, and then we had the opportunity to ride a few waves. Meanwhile, Aimee kept careful watch and provided helpful feedback. It was a fun-filled and enjoyable experience - I would highly recommend taking a lesson with the North Shore Surf Girls. Mahalo!

Amazing time with my first surf lesson. Heri was a great instructor, super nice and patient. I was able to fully get up on my second try! Even at 42, it was so fun, he made the lessons so easy to learn.

The North Shore Surf Girls are totally tubular dude!!!! We did a private family group lesson 6 of us totally 4 teenagers and 2 adults in our 40’s. We all made it standing and the instruction was phenomenal. Amy and Josh were the bomb instructors that we had and walked all of us through the ins and outs of being able to surf successfully. I highly recommend North Shore Surf girls on your vist to the North shore. Also shout out to Hankfoto for getting awesome action shots of our surfing adventure!!!!

I took my 3 girls from ages 11-16, and all four of us were all able to get up and surf dozens of waves thanks to our awesome instructors! We got the real North Shore surfing experience. And the cherry on top was the awesome photographer they have during the summer season. We all love the photos and plan to hang then in our house when we get back home from vacation.

My 3 grandchildren had a wonderful experience with north shore surf girls. Ages 8, 9, and 12 and they were up on the board catching waves within the first 10 minutes in the water. They loves the experience and loved their instructors. If we are ever in Hawaii again we will be back to same company. I highly recommend!

This was a surprise for my husband’s 57th birthday! It was his first time ever on a surfboard- so he was a bit nervous! His instructor put him at ease and he caught his very first wave! I can’t say enough about how AMAZING NorthShoreSurfGirls is !!! If you are even thinking about “what if?!” Just DO IT !!! #noregrets

Overall it was a great experience. I opted for a two-hour session so I'd get more time on the water. I definitely got some great instruction both on the beach and on the water, but it would have been nice to get a little more on the water. Still an excellent experience though and I'd recommend it to anyone.

What an awesome time! Aimee was an amazing teacher: this was my second ever lesson- first since 2017- and I was standing and riding consistently after my first wave. Aimee made me feel comfortable and confident, and, in particular, she helped me slow everything down. It clicked. We vibed out on the ocean and passed all the time between waves chatting and bonding. I could not recommend NSSG enough. I also got a roll of 125 amazing photos from Hank, an awesome keepsake. I'll definitely take another lesson with NSSG (perhaps even tomorrow)!

We did this as a family with a couple of friends as a complete spontaneous adventure. Great experience, we worked with Josh and Carol (apologies for any misspelling). None of us were great swimmers and some had never been swimming. Even our two-year-old rode along with a life vest, she didn't catch any waves but could have gone with one of the teachers. Josh and Carol were very patient with us and very friendly. We had tons of fun and didn't have to have any gear ready. If you plan ahead, I'd recommend bringing long sleeve surfing/swimming shirt as the sun sneaks up on you. Definitely recommend and thank you to the Surf Girl team for a truly memorable experience!
