We had an AMAZING time! The crew was knowledgable and made our time so enjoyable, even as we adjusted plans to accommodate the weather and ocean conditions! I would highly recommend PacWhale and will utilize your services for future trips to Maui!

Highly recommend. Let’s start, by paying the parking for you will get a ticket/fee if you don’t. Nice gift shop at check-in if you have extra time. Bring reef safe sunscreen or buy some here. When you get on the boat there is Inside seating with shade, but it has no breeze. Otherwise spots up front or on top. You can move around throughout, but people tend to set up their home base. Bathrooms on board are helpful. We were told the snorkeling may be the same off the shore, but I’m not sure we would have seen 20+ types of fish at a random beach. This was the best I’ve seen in 15-20 or so locations! Kids will love the slide into the ocean and the nature talks by marine biologists. Hour ride to next stop but No turtles today. Fish were all the same and less visibility. But Lunch was tasty and seconds were offered. Juice and water were always available, and alcoholic drink included w lunch - after snorkeling. Enjoy!
Our trip with PacWhale was wonderful. The captain and crew were friendly, informative and fun. Ocean Voyager had several seating areas. Breakfast and lunch were good. We rented the wetsuits (tops with zippers) because we didn't want to get cold and miss snorkel time.
Was an enjoyable experience, plenty of snorkel time even with family taking care of an infant. Had good food also which included a veggie burger, much appreciated given that part of my family is vegetarian only. Plenty of space on the boat despite nearly 100 people on it. 2 bathrooms was nice also
This was our 2nd trip with your organization! We did the Lanai Snorkel on a previous visit. The two for one fares are great. The boat ( voyager ) is good, little noisy in the cabin area. Crew is upbeat, friendly, caring attentive including the captain. Food is pretty good. If you are able to get up and around while the boat is traveling I am sure you can learn a lot from the crew, some of whom are marine biologists. Or any time the boat is anchored. The Snorkeling at Molokini Crater was good! My wife especially had a good variety of sealife closer to the crater edge, just be careful there though! The person giving the information talk underway via the sound system was mostly unintelligible in the cabin area, they spoke a bit fast with a slight accent, and the engine sounds combined to make it unfortunately a missed opportunity. Later a young man came into the cabin with some dolphin skulls on the return trip, which would have been interesting, but he showed them to a few people at the front and while I tried to get his attention to come our way, he seemed to notice but turned around and left instead? Another missed opportunity. I wasn’t feeling great so couldn’t go after him. As the Pacific Whale Foundations mission is to educate people, that didn’t happen much on this trip for us. Since you have a great knowledgeable crew that have a lot to share, if they go around and engage more or use the PA system when people can hear, that would really add value to passengers and further your goals too!
The trip was excellent - two snorkel spots with lots to see. We swam with sea turtles at the second one and saw a lot of wildlife. The naturalists on the boat were so engaged with the kids (who had lots of questions!). I noted in my reservation that I was gluten free and they had separate safe food options for me, which was a nice surprise! Would definitely do this trip again!
Great tour. The captain was friendly and kept us very safe. The food offerings were tasty, the service was welcoming, and it was a great amount of time.
PacWhale Eco Adventures was the BEST choice for our snorkel excursion. They kept participant safety as the focus while assuring we had plenty of fun and access to in-water adventures.
The snorkel to Molokini crater was lovely. The staff was helpful and informative. We were expecting the crater to be crowded but it really wasn’t very crowded at all. I would highly recommend this tour.
I highly recommend Pacific Whale for any of their excursions. They are top notch. We’ve been to Maui twice and were highly impressed with them the first time, that there was no question we would be using them again this time when we took the kids. The snorkeling at Molokini and another turtle spot on the West Side was at the top of my list. The Naturalist were knowledge and made for an education experience and Capt T made it exciting and lively. It’s a must do on your trip to Maui and I wouldn’t trust anyone more than PacWhale for it.
Great experience - kids loved it. Snorkeling was awesome and boat staff was excellent. Food service was delicious and easy to Navigate. Would definitely do it again!
Great time out on the water. The molokini area had a nice variety of fish and the water was crystal clear. A little crowded in the water given the size of the boat, but people spread out eventually. Turtle Town was really good too, we saw a nice big turtle lounging in the cleaning station. Food at lunch was surprisingly good and unlike a lot of tours they left time to actually eat without losing time in the water.
10/10 — Highly recommend! PacWhale Evo-Adventure was one of the highlights of our Maui trip! The crew was warm, welcoming, incredibly knowledgeable, and amazing with kids. Our 4-year-old was initially scared to snorkel, but the staff patiently helped him overcome his fear — by the end, he was happily snorkeling! The reef tour was fantastic, with the crew identifying marine life and sharing fascinating insights. The catamaran was comfortable and smooth, with plenty of snorkeling equipment and decent food/drink options. A professional photographer was also onboard and captured amazing family and snorkeling photos for an additional fee — absolutely worth it!
Another wonderful snorkeling trip with the Pacific Whale Foundation. The captain and crew made sure the we were safe and comfortable. The marine biologist onboard taught us a lot about the coral reefs and the ecosystem. I love that everytime we take a trip with the Pacific Whale Foundation we help to support saving the whales and marine research.
The food they offered was very poor quality. We woke up at 5am to get there by 6:15am (45 mins before departure. We did not have time to eat breakfast. We were told they would provide breakfast and lunch. The provided limited old croissants and banana cake for breakfast, and some juice. Lunch was worth, burned hotdogs and chicken breast (burned and extremely dry). It was so nasty. My kids were hungry and still did not eat. I would have brought my own food had I know about the in advance. The snorkeling and crew were just ok, nothing extraordinary. I would book this tour!
The weather can change so be flexible, the captain and crew were great about trying to make sure we all had a great experience
We had a wonderful snorkeling trip and really enjoyed the experience! The crew was friendly, helpful, and made sure everyone felt comfortable and safe. The snorkeling itself was beautiful, with amazing views of the ocean and marine life. One thing I would recommend to future visitors is to be prepared for seasickness, especially if you’re not used to being on a boat. The water can get a little rough, and seasickness can come on unexpectedly. I’d suggest taking motion-sickness medication ahead of time if you’re prone to it, staying hydrated, and eating something light before the trip. Even with a little seasickness, we still had a great time and would definitely recommend this snorkeling experience. Just come prepared so you can relax and enjoy the beautiful ocean
Fantastic adventure. All crew were helpful and extra friendly, which always leads to a stress free voyage. We’ll be back!
As a snorkeling tour, this experience was a bit disappointing. The marine life was very limited, so don't expect to see lots of turtles or colorful fish. At the famous "turtle spot," we only saw one turtle, while we actually saw many more turtles just snorkeling from Ka'anapali Beach on our own. That said, the water was absolutely crystal clear and beautiful. The crew, however, was outstanding. They were incredibly friendly, attentive, and made sure everyone felt comfortable and safe throughout the trip. Their service was truly top-notch. The lunch and drinks were also very good. Overall, the service and organization were excellent, but if your main goal is to experience abundant marine life, this tour may not meet your expectations.
The staff was excellent, the food distribution was well organized, and the snorkel gear was high quality. The only reason I gave a 4/5 is because I purposely called the day before to ask if there were any impacts due to hurricane fausto and I was repeatedly told that no it would be no problem. On the boat though, the crew announced that the past two days, they didn’t make it to Molokini due to the wind/waves. Having booked the day before, had I known, I might have booked a different tour for less money seeing as we didn’t make it to Molokini or the turtle spot.
Unfortunately we were not able to go Molokini as we were on the way there the captain stated it was “blown out” and all other boats were turning around. Didn’t take us to the next spot on the itinerary either for turtles. After going to another spot where two other boats were parked that the captain decided he didn’t want, we went to Oluwalu where we tied in but then the diver said there was no visibility. Instead we went to Talking Rocks where there were few fish, no turtles and instead of going to a second location the captain decided to stay and they opened the bar early. While the food and drinks were good, I would have spent my money differently if I would have known that Hurricane Fausto was having such an impact on the conditions. Which I was told has been this way for two weeks. I wish the company would have been more transparent and let us know up front that due to weather that we wouldn’t get anything we were hoping for. It was all very disappointing to say the least to spend almost $400 to get what I could have experienced off the coral reef at my hotel. I appreciate this company and their efforts toward conservation but overall it was disappointing.
We are experienced snorkelers. We've snorkeled in the Bahamas and the Florida Keys, where a variety of fish and coral abound. Molikini Crater was hyped to be AMAZING! I would describe the experience to be almost a joke. We saw a very small number of black triggerfish... like a few dozen. That's it. The bottom was covered with mundane, unremarkable coral where we saw one tiny yellow fish. I would describe the ecosystem as a near ocean desert. The captain and crew tried to pretend it was amazing and to novice snorkelers, I suppose it was a new experience. Experienced snorkelers would find it laughable. For the money we paid, Norwegian Cruise Lines should be embarrassed.
Very friendly, decent boat, well organized, good gear, decent food. We had a pleasant experience all around.
We enjoyed the 5-hour snorkel trip with the PCF. While snorkeling we saw some great fish at the crater. The crew was very helpful and cheerful.
It was an amazing experience! Would absolutely recommend! We snorkeled for two hours and saw so many fun creatures including a manta ray and turtles!
This is a very well-ran experience that is perfect for beginners and children. The crew is plentiful, knowledgable, patient, and efficient. All have advanced degrees related to Oceanic pursuits. Safety is top-notch. Meet at The Maui Ocean Center and bring towels and Reef-safe sunscreen. Plenty of room on the two-level boat for your bag. Sails smooth. Restroom's available. Light breakfast, good lunch (including one alcohol drink,2nd $8) soft drinks and water, and photos provided. Photos above and under water. Around $75. We saw turtles and some fish. Maybe not as plentiful as we expected, but fun. Didn’t make it to the Turtle Arches or maybe I didn’t hear them. Snorkled a lava finger and Molokini Crater. Windy on the way back!
Very knowledgeable crew who helped our kids for their first time snorkeling. They took guests on a crater tour, served food well, helped at every step of the way. Could not have been a better first snorkeling experience for our kids (13 and 11). And the location was gorgeous with tons of fish to see. Food on board was good - burgers and chicken and hot dogs and cookies.
My experience with any tour thru the pacific whale foundation is well worth the expense. They are always very well done the crew is very professional and knowledgeable. Not only is it fun but very educational.
It is a good trip but the price is high. On 5 hour tour we stopped in Molokini only one hour and half. The good is poor. No barbecue on board but food ready from the harbour
Great experience! I’m not the best swimmer at age 70 but they had all kinds of options . Floatation belts, life jackets and a few paddle boards were available. Also the staff in the water as life guards. We were given instructions before going in the water. Saw such beautiful fish and underwater seascape!! The staff was so knowledgeable and friendly. We had a nice barbecue lunch after snorkeling as well. I would highly recommend this experience for all ages.
Crew was great from the captain down. Did not see, any turtles, or much other then the reef and a few fish. Granted they can't control nature. My wife and I were on our honeymoon. Wanted to experience more beauty. Better luck next time.. food was good. We were stuck at the last place we snorkeled. Because of a bad head count. Guess they figured it out. Then raced back to port to meet the dead line. Not real fun.this is why the 3 stars. Nothing lined up.
Really well done. Well organized staff. Lots of fish at Molokini. Several turtles at 2nd stop. Got a special show by spinner dolphins on the way home. I would highly recommend for family outings.
Mother nature has the keys to the car. She can be calm and she can drive like a maniac. The weather can define a trip. The weather for us changed quickly and so the skipper called it. Good call. Next stop, calm side of the island. Like a swimming pool. Clear. Calm and marine life everywhere, including turtles. Food was good, staff was excellent and we will definitely be back.
This was a good excursion. The crew was amazing, and the snorkeling was very good. Molokini crater is a great place to snorkel. The boat lacks a bit of comfort as most of the seats have no shade. The boat also felt a bit overcrowded. 25 fewer people would have made a big difference in space available. The food was good for both breakfast and lunch. We had our own gear, but the gear provided seemed okay as well.
we didn't see anything, when doing such large tours they should somehow check for turtles etc. through radars or something, and they absolutely don't care that people didn't see anything, they don't want to show another place so that people who paid 400 dollars can get a great experience. everything we saw, you can easily see for yourself from the shore on Honolulu bay. the staff was great
This was worth every penny. The guides were amazing, and very informative. Every single staff person was so warm and friendly and made sure everyone aboard had what they needed to be comfy.
It was a great trip!! Beautiful snorkeling and clear waters. We saw 3 turtles and some beautiful fish.
Our original tour on a catamaran was canceled due to weather, so at the last minute we booked this tour thinking a harbor boat wouldn't be cancelled for that. BIG mistake. This was on an old boat with a HUGE group of people (mostly retired couples and families with young kids) and we ended up sitting on benches outside the captain's cabin. Cruddy snorkel gear and a broken whale mic. And there was barely enough food for everyone (2 TBSP of mac salad and a burger plus 1 tiny cookie). For 200 each, we expected a lot better. They get 2 stars for easy check in, nice staff, good music, and stopping for us to see a mother whale and her calf.
This is such a wonderful experience. Molokini is absolutely amazing for snorkeling, and the captain and his whole crew made this experience beyond our expectation. The whole trip is both educational and relaxed. I would high recommend this trip for anyone who is looking for a great time at Molokini!
First, the crew were absolutely great! The crew was attentive to your every need. Super organized. The crew had a light breakfast ready upon boarding, linch was provided as well. The Captain was very informative. We anchored at Molokini Crater. I saw lots of different fish. Easy snorkeling for all levels. After we headed to another spot where there were a few turtles in the water which was very cool. in addition, the tour company provided a photographer in and out of the water (pictures $ extra, but nice touch). The entire trip from start to finish was perfect. I could not have been happier!!
We had a wonderful time on this boat tour. I was very apprehensive about snorkeling but the crew did a good job of giving a thorough "snorkel training." I have done other boat tours. What stood out to me on this tour was how friendly the staff was. They actually talked to us and were genuinely interested in what we had to say and also offered top not customer service in helping to ensure we were comfortable. We would definitely do this tour again!
Wow! Great snorkeling and terrific insights from the marine biologists onboard. A great 1/2 trip. They provided the gear, including flotation devices, and rented wet suits for $10 (and glad they did). Friendly, hard-working, knowledgable staff. Take a snack of your own. It’s a long time between the breakfast food on the way to molikini, and the lunch after turtletown.
It was beautiful at Molokini at Turtle Bay water murky. Staff and nature guide were exceptionally awesome. Food for lunch was excellent as well
Outstanding trip. Crew was always on top of things. Saw many whales on the trip back to the dock. Really fun experience. Definitely would do again.
The crew are simply amazing. Fun, friendly, and the most knowledgeable people you'll meet on marine life. We had a wonderful time snorkeling the crater and turtle town, and got to see some great whale activity along the way. The staff could not have been better. If you want to take a snorkeling tour on Maui, this is the one.
Book the trip! They will work with you and reschedule you for the perfect weather day on the water. They bring you to two separate spots to snuba or snorkel. The captain and crew are nice, knowledgeable of the area and sea, and you can tell they love what they do!
Amazing experience! The snorkeling around Molokini was mind blowing. The water was crystal clear and I saw so many different fishes. The staff onboard were great. The whole trip was very well organized. They were able to tell me about the fish I saw, they made a good lunch, and gave us tips about how to snorkel. I also think the organization's conservation goals are admirable
We had an amazing time on the Molokini Crater and Sea Turtle Arches Snorkeling Tour with the Pacific Whale Foundation! The snorkeling was incredible, and the crew was top-notch—extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and approachable. The captain kept us entertained with some fun dad jokes along the way, which added to the relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. While we only spotted one sea turtle (apparently unusual for them), it didn’t take away from the fantastic experience. The food they served was surprisingly good, with several vegan-friendly options—a pleasant surprise! The drinks were also excellent, rounding out a perfect day on the water. Overall, I highly recommend this tour if you’re looking for a fun, well-run snorkeling trip. We’ll definitely be back!
Had a fabulous day with Captain Doug and his team. The snorkeling at Molokini was great for the first-timers in our group as well as the one who was experienced. The crew made sure we were outfitted with everything we needed. By the time we got to turtle arches, it was pretty choppy and no one stayed in the water long. But lunch was great and there was plenty for everyone. On the way back to the harbor, Captain Doug spotted some turtles and stopped so we could all see them from the boat. Gorgeous weather and a fun day for everyone. Thanks especially to Enesyia who was so much fun and answered all of our questions. My only frustration is that we couldn't understand anything that was being said over the sound system. Evidently you need to be upstairs (and outside) to hear well, and we were hoping to avoid sunburns by staying downstairs. Highly recommend renting the snorkel wetsuit shirts. The water was a wee bit chilly! Lovely day!
Choppy waters made it difficult to enjoy the first stop but captain and staff to good care of the situation and diverted the voyage to another location. Overall a great time
