Captain Alex did a great job of making this a safe, fun trip. And snorkeling Molokini Crater was well worth it. We did a two hour trip, which was just about perfect time. It was about a 10 minute ride out to the crater, the rest of the time was snorkeling.

We absolutely loved our Molokini snorkeling tour! The location was beautiful, the snorkeling was excellent, and everything was organized quickly and efficiently. The captain and his crew were wonderful and made the whole experience very enjoyable. I was a little worried about rough waves, but the conditions were great and we were lucky with the weather. Everything was smooth, well organized and fun. Definitely a five-star experience!

We had an amazing time. Our 1st excursion was canceled due to high tides. The company immediately offered a total refund or a rescheduling. We took a trip the following day and it was amazing. The crew was fantastic.

The Molokini Crater Snorkeling is a must…the water is clear and the fish were really neat. I felt like the black fish toward the top of the water were checking me out like I was checking them out. Matt and Lucille were excellent at their jobs.

Tons of fun, the captain Matt and crew Lucy have great info. The sea was a little stronger than expected for a first time snorkeling but they explained everything really well and have great information. Loved learning about the bird sanctuary as n the island and seeing the amazing wildlife that we would not have got to see otherwise, definitely a bucket list item!

We booked this trip for our family of five so that we can enjoy underwater sea life. We had a great experience with Captain Matt and first officer Lucia. They both were very well prepared and gave the group excellent briefing before we left the ramp. The water was a bit choppy but Captain Matt navigated the chop skillfully and despite the rough seas he still managed to deliver an fun experience and we got to see a lot of beautiful marine life at an alternate site since Malokini crater waters were too rough and unsafe for snorkeling. We appreciated Matt and Lucia guidance and their willingness to go out of their way be helpful to our kids! Will definitely recommend!

Alex and Michelle were amazing guides for our snorkeling adventure! We were sailing on the Pride of America cruise ship and it was our 1st (of 2) day in Maui. We loved the time frame to be able to get to the 10:30 snorkel with no problem and not take up our whole day. They were fun, helped us feel safe, taught us about the history of the crater, and provided a great first experience of snorkeling for our 3 children (ages 15, 19, and 21). Alex also was helpful in recommendations on what to do the rest of our day. We would highly recommend this excursion for anyone visiting Maui.

This was our favorite adventure in Maui! Alex and Kyle were great hosts. The boat ride to the crater was fun and the snorkeling was unbeatable! We saw a ton of different fish and coral. Our kids were first time snorkelers, and they had everything they needed to feel comfortable. I ephod highly recommend this trip for families.

The guide and assistant was very nice however the wind picked up and water started getting rough…we only got to snorkel for 20 minutes of the 2 hr trip…for what we paid and no offer to refund partial money for cutting our trip so short is why I give it 2 stars

Lucia and Alex of makenna coast charters were amazing. They got us out to the reef first and talked us through all the safety stuff and then we got to snorkel and look at fish for an hour. Qe moved to another spot and did more time on molokini and then they took us around the backside and gave some history and finally took us in to shore where we snorkels with turtles. Alex is a hoot entertaining us with his humor the entire trip. Highly recommend.

We really enjoyed our snorkel trip to Molokini! Captain Matt and first mate Kyle are great guides, they told us about the marine and wild life sanctuary there. They made sure we were comfortable in the water and that we all had an amazing snorkel experience. We took the 10:30 snorkel trip that only went to Molokini (not additional sea turtle stop) since I can get seasick and thought a longer trip would be pushing my luck. Dramamine and sea bands worked for me, no problems on the Zodiak boat. Seas are more calm in the morning.

This is my boyfriend and I’s first time visiting Hawaii, and we booked this snorkel experience on a complete whim. We were so unbelievably and pleasantly surprised at how amazing this experience was. Captain Matt and Lucia really made the whole trip memorable by how knowledgeable, laid back, and fun they were. This was also our first time ever snorkeling, and Lucia’s instruction and demonstrations on the basics made it so easy to follow which made the experience even better! The water was perfect and so clear, the fish and reef were gorgeous, I could go on and on. It’s been our favorite part of the trip so far. Highly recommend booking your snorkeling trip with Makena Coast Charters (especially if you can get Captain Matt and Lucia)!!!

Matt was an excellent host. He reminded us about safety snorkeling practices, and was very thorough about answering questions. The spot he took us to was amazing, the most fish I have seen in the ocean ever! The trip was worth every penny to see so many varieties of ocean fish. We felt safe in the water as Matt and his partner watched over us. It was a lovely trip.

The company knew we were coming from a cruise ship, we paid for a taxi to Kihei, they cancelled the trip as soon as we got there due to choppy seas, I understand these things happen but we could have been given more notice or had a change to itinerary and just had the whale watching as the weather was beautiful and so many boats out on the water, instead we ended up paying over $50 in taxis for no reason, really disappointing

Great communication beforehand so you know exactly where to meet. Captain Matt and Louisa were wonderful, friendly, fun, educational, we had a an amazing adventure.

Snorkeling experience was awesome! We did it with our kids who are 10 and 7 and it is was great experience for them as well. Fish and coral Diversity are incredible and we could have stayed here all the day! The only important thing is we paid for snorkeling AND whale watching and finally we did snorkeling only. The captain told us that it was not the season anymore but we paid 200$ per person for the combo and we paid more on purpose because we knew that the spot was nice to watch whales…A bite disappointing and not fair to suggest combo with a related price knowing that it is feasible - isn’t it?

We booked Makena Coast Charters in Maui for the 2.5-hour snorkeling tour at Molokini Crater. Matt and Lucia were excellent guides, even stopping along the way to give us a good, long look at whales breaching the surface. They provided thorough instructions and fun facts about the area and sea life. The crystal clear waters covering the reef along Molokini's coast provided beautiful snorkeling with an abundance of interesting coral and fish to see. We highly recommend a tour with Makena Coast Charters when visiting Maui, and we will definitely see them again on our next visit.

My cousin and I went on Sunday, March 1st. It was overcast, but we had am amazing time! Lots of whale activity, and we had fun snorkeling, too! The guys (our boat crew) were funny and knowledgable. The snacks were great, too! It was our last hurrah before leaving, and I'm so happy we did it.

This is THE tour to take! Great captain and first mate😀 it shows they take pride in what they do and how they treat each guest. Safety is always first unlike other snorkel trips we have done.

I had such an amazing experience with Makena Coast Charters! I did their Whale Watching tour to Molokini crater. The water was crystal clear and you could see so many different fish. Captain Matt and Lucia were absolutely amazing. Lucia used the hydrophone so we could hear the whales singing! They were surprisingly really loud but it was a beautiful sound, listening to them all sing to each other. She explained so many different things about the whales and how they travel to get to Hawaii, how intelligent they have to be to get all the way there, and how the mother whales teach their babies to explore safely. We saw more than 5 different whales on our way to Molokini and the crew made sure that they stopped and showed us where to look and ensured that everyone was being respectful of each other so that everyone got the opportunity to see and take pictures. I really had such a great time and experience! I highly recommend, it was worth it! AND! They had snacks :)

Ask questions! They know everything about the whales! Alex is hilarious and Sarah is super friendly. Bring money for a tip or you can use Venmo which was really nice because we didn’t have time to get to the bank for cash. The 10:30 trip was perfect if you are coming from the west side of the island. Give yourself extra time for morning traffic. You can bring your own snorkel gear and this gets you in the water faster. Half an hour or a little more for snorkeling is enough to see most of what you can see at the crater. You can hear the whales really well out there. We went on a rainy Saturday and it was beautiful at the crater. Even on an overcast day. Don’t let weather deter you. It was also great because no one was there because of the weather forecast I’m sure. There are bathrooms near the boat ramp.

What an awesome time we had with Makena Coast Charters. We ventured out with Matt and Lucia and they’re just the best. We saw a lot of whales and they were so patient whilst we all took pictures and videos. Then we carried on to the Molokini crater and all I can say is wow! It was so beautiful. The corals were healthy and thriving and abundant with fish, so many different ones. They provided us with non alcoholic drinks and granola bars as snacks. We had our own snorkel gear but they also have gear they supply you with. They supplied us with flippers which were absolutely needed. It made the experience easier. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this company. They’re small, it’s very personable. Thanks again Matt and Lucia we had a fantastic experience :)

Captain Matt & first mate Sarah were fun! personable but professional and very capable, knowledgeable & helpful. I used a wetsuit & noodle (provided) so I could be snorkeling at the crater for the entire hour; it was fantastic. The water colors are unreal!! Fish, too! We went out at 10:30 and saw whales and tales, but not alot Did hear one when snorkeling! And I heard from others it breached while i wasn’t looking! Ha! Still—- great experience! Swallow your tourist pride and DO IT! No regrets!
