Maui: Haleakala Sunrise Spectacular With Local Breakfast

Preston was one of the best tour guides I’ve ever had! He was incredibly kind, generous, and knowledgeable. While watching the sunrise at Haleakalā National Park, he went out of his way to provide extra layers and hot tea, coffee, and hot chocolate to keep us warm. He made the entire experience feel like spending time with a friend rather than a tour guide. Truly a great guy, and I hope to see him again someday!

Preston was an outstanding guy. We learned so much information from him about the history of Maui about the history of the volcano. He knew where to take us. He was very curious and kind as to the weather conditions and everything advising us of what to make sure that wedid and didn’t do highly recommend him to anyone considering to do any type of travel around Maui

Just as advertised. Prevents any need to coordinate your own timing to the summit. Preston is a perfect guide and host, charming and succinct and knowledgeable. Highly recommend.

NOTE: We were extremely lucky to have a warmer day at that elevation. That is never a guarantee. Pack a warm coat & LAYERS. A good pair of shoes as well. With the cloud cover that can come in, bringing in moisture, you can get wet. Pack rain gear as well.

Such an amazing experience! The guide was incredible, gave us SO much good knowledge and the sunrise was beautiful. The excursion we booked included breakfast after and we drove through upcountry to get to our restaurant and the location of breakfast was cute with cool views and local shops and the wait staff was so sweet. Highly recommend!!

Al Pacino with Polynesian adventures was a great tour guide and kept us engaged

Excellent tour experience all around, from pick up to drop off. Alfredo (Al Pacino) was our amazing tour guide. Very knowledgeable and provided the insider’s information from a local’s point of view. During the sunrise, he even sang (chanted) that gave a more intimate experience not just for our group but from everyone in the viewing area. This was a totally amazing tour and worth the price we paid.

The entire experience was fantastic. We got picked up within the time limits that we were expecting. We did not have to worry about admission fees or any of the logistics besides making sure we got on the bus on time and enjoyed ourselves. Our bus driver was Alfredo and he was kind, helpful, educational, and wanted to ensure we all had a good but safe time. He reminded us of the importance of respecting the land and areas. Our group had a crowd of ~15 and the atmosphere was comfortable, welcoming, and educational. Alfredo reminded us on how to breathe properly while going up the mountain to avoid getting sick. The best part was getting to see the sunrise and having a good viewpoint to get to see it. It was gorgeous!! Make sure to stop by the parks visitors center to get a postcard or a magnet. Alfredo made the entire trip comfortable, educational, and welcoming. I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to experience the sunrise but not do the drive themselves.

Preston was very knowledgeable and fun! We had a really great time and would rebook! Knows a lot of Hawaiian culture and folklore. The views from the mountain top are unparalleled!

Napped while Preston drove us to the crater. Beautiful sunrise! Worth waking up early. Bring layers or a blanket. Enjoyed the information Preston shared on the way back down. Breakfast was great. Overall, experience is a bit expensive, but you pay for the convenience of not having to drive and can even nap on the way up, you learn more than if you drove yourself, and even get tips for things to do while on the island, plus breakfast is waiting for you when you arrive at the restaurant.

Wonderful experience except for 1 thing. Its very cold! It would be nice if there were blankets as no one brings cold weather jackets on a Hawaii vacation.

We had a spectacular tour!! Sunrise was gorgeous, the tour van/bus was very clean and spacious, and our guide Alfredo was SPECTACULAR!!!! He was so knowledgable, told great stories and facts about Maui and the culture, was an amazing driver, and provided us with all the information we needed prior to departing and even while on the road. Could not have asked for a better experience!!!

The experience was great! It was very early in the morning, but the reviews were incredibly worth it. Preston was the best guide. He had a lot of insider knowledge and we got to see sites that we may not have if we booked with another tour.

Dress in layers because it is cold at the summit. When we were there it was 47 degrees. Sunrise was great.

What a great tour and experience. Our Australian tour guide did a fantastic job educating us on Haleakala and Maui. The sunrise and the views at the top of Haleakala were majestic. A must-do!

Preston is an excellent guide. He is knowledgeable about the history of the island and has the best advice for viewing sunrise. The sunrise experience is cold, come prepared with layers and gloves. The transitioning gradients of the sky as it slowly lights up during sunrise l, above the clouds are unlike any other.

Preston was an amazing tour guide. His tips for constantly moving around and changing your sight line was super helpful in getting amazing pictures from every angle. Also dress warmer than suggested or bring a blanket from your hotel. We’re from Chicago and it was still colder than we expected. Manageable in hoodies for us Midwest folk, but if you’re from a warmer climate and aren’t used to 45 degree weather it’ll be a shock. You are also in the clouds so you will get wet which will only make the cold worse. I suggest a rain jacket over a hoodie or anything that doesn’t repel moisture. Awesome experience though and will definitely do it again the next time we’re back!

Preston was our driver/guide. He was absolutely wonderful. His knowledge of the area and customs were very informative. He has a quick wit. We laughed alot. He was very patient with me as I am a slow walker. The breakfast was delicious. I would highly recommend this trip and Preston as your guide. Oh, and the sunrise was amazing.

This tour was amazing! Preston our tour guide was our type of people, unique with a dry sense of humor that made us laugh the whole trip. He was very knowledgeable, took his time, and explained to us the best way to go about the tour. He allowed us many photo opportunities which was much appreciated. Definitely dress warm!!!! We had on our first layer and packed the other two layers in a backpack to put on when we arrived at the peak. I would have brought warmer shoes (not simple sneakers), and thicker gloves if I could do it over again.

We enjoyed the early morning sunrise and felt in good hands with Preston. He was very knowledgeable and ensured we had a nice time. The van was comfortable (and had no concerns with Preston driving us early in the morning while we slept...), he provided tea/coffee/hot cocoa after sunrise and then gave us a scenic, leisurely tour back down to enjoy a good breakfast. It's an early morning and a long day, but glad we did it!

Even though we did not see the sunrise due to rain and very cloudy the experience was well worth it and we would do it again.

It was a bit chilly out there with the wind factor in play. Wasn’t sure what to expect. Our Tour Guide, Preston Was absolutely Fantastic! Very knowledgeable and seemed to enjoy acknowledging his guests with not only the sunrise but also the surrounding areas from way back. He was absolutely Not Boring At All like some tend to be. My husband and I totally enjoyed it all and we’re glad we took the tour

From start to finish, this was an amazing experience. Preston greeted us at 2:55 am and continued to inform during the remainder of the trip. He gave caution to make certain we were careful in our walk on the crater. On the way back, Preston shared background on the development of the island, life on the island and places to see. You can tell that he studies in order to make this trip memorable for the guests. We finished the trip with a delicious breakfast at The Mill House. Don’t hesitate to book this trip and request Preston as your guide.

Beautiful sunrise morning over Haleakala with a yummy breakfast. Preston was very knowledgeable and stopped for several photo ops . Definitely bring warm clothes as it was very chilly watching the sunrise.

Awesome experience! Preston, our driver and guide, provided excellent overviews, commentary and some history. This trip was unexpectedly warmer than anticipated, but don't count on that being the case when you go. Breakfast was well organized, quick and very good.

Preston was amazing! He is extremely passionate about Hawaii and was an excellent guide and a wealth of information. It gets VERY cold so bring lots of layers and gloves and even a blanket!
