This trip was the highlight of our trip to 7 of Hawaii’s islands. Can’t say enough about our guide Josh! He was a great driver, knew the history and took us to a great local place to eat. We had the absolute best Road to Hana tour with Journey Jill (JJ)! She picked us up in a beautiful convertible Bronco, which made the drive even more fun. JJ was such an excellent guide—so personable, full of amazing stories from her incredible life, and truly a pro when it comes to the Road to Hana. She took us to hidden gems that only a local would know about, including a hike to a gorgeous waterfall. We grabbed lunch at a delicious food truck and enjoyed it by the beach, then later stopped to see sea turtles resting on the sand. Along the way, we saw some of the most breathtaking scenery ever. She even provided snacks and drinks, which was such a thoughtful touch. As a travel agent, I’ll be recommending JJ to all of my future clients. We took a Road to Hana tour with Shannon, and it was a fantastic day. We saw beautiful beaches, waterfalls, stopped at local farm stands, and ate famous huli huli chicken.

My wife and I had the pleasure of taking the road to Hana trip with Shannon from Journey Jills yesterday. Great experience!! Your customized to what we wanted to see, and all of it for in prior to our cruise ship departing. They even adjusted the itinerary to leave an hour earlier to make sure all got done and we got back to the ship on time. Waterfalls, black and red sand beaches, swimming, turtles... It was a great day and I highly recommend them. BTW, Sassy was the name of our Ford Bronco that took great care of us on that beautiful but dangerous road. Glad we left the driving to them!!

A year and a half ago I did the Road to Hana with a friend driving who lives in Maui. When I came back with a friend from England in May, I knew we had to go but I definitely did not want to drive it myself. We had an excellent experience even though it became rainy, then actually cold by the time we got to Hana. So the roof was only open for part of the trip. Shannon was our guide. The trip is so beautiful, changing landscapes and seascapes and some beautiful beaches and waterfalls. It wasn’t warm enough for any of us to go swimming. It was wonderful to have someone else drive and to have them find us places not as touristy. It is important to leave early in the morning to get more time/space with fewer people. We liked that Journey Jill was woman-owned, and we could do a tour with just the 2 of us rather than a van full of people. The only negative thing we thought, was our guide reminding us ahead of time, to bring cash for local vendors and also for a tip, she put in parentheses 20-30% for excellent service. We thought it would be so much better if she had just said the usual - for gratuity for the guide, rather than adding 20-30%. I didn’t mind tipping servers in restaurants etc, 30% when I was there in October 2023, 2 months after the fire. But we thought it was not aloha to ask upfront for a specific percentage, especially 30%, because the trip for 2 people was definitely not cheap. We tipped about 20% in the end.

Caitlin was wonderful. She showed us little hidden gems, took great pictures (she always offered at the various stops), brought us to some great food places,(banana bread, Huli Huli chicken and coconut ice cream. They were all wonderful. She helped us get around on some rougher trails. She was fun to talk to and informative about the plants and animals. Her free spirit and generosity helped make it all we could have asked for. Not once did we feel rushed. We would definitely do this trip again with Caitlin.

The views were amazing and our driver, Allison, was amazing! We saw waterfalls, black and red sand beaches and sea turtles.

Our family of four decided to fly over to Maui from Hawaii Island to do the Road to Hana tour with JJ and JourneyJill Tours. First, let me say, that corresponding with JJ was incredible. She was quick to respond and answered all of my questions. On the day of the tour, JJ picked us up from the commuter terminal at the airport in Kahului. From Kahului, we journeyed all along the Road to Hana, and this tour is all about the journey. We visited a black sand beach, swam in waterfalls, ate Huli Huli chicken, saw rainbow eucalyptus trees, a red sand beach, and the most turtles I've ever seen on one Hawaii beach in my many visits to the islands. JJ was entertaining and engaging, but she also gave us space to enjoy the company of each other and not ever feel overwhelmed by the tour. Having an experienced guide do the driving makes all the difference on this tour. JJ being so much fun, a great photographer and videographer, and just knowledgeable and reliable made our day trip to Maui so worth it. Getting to Hawaii is a journey for most people, doing a day trip and getting this experience was such an excellent investment, so whether staying on Maui or a neighboring island, you should consider booking this tour, I promise you will not be disappointed.

We had the most amazing day with Jill touring Maui! She was so accommodating to all our requests and showed us so many little gem spots along the road to Hana that we would NEVER have found on our own. She was so engaging with our teenage boys, and so fun to talk with! Aside from being an extremely educated guide on everything Maui and beyond, she is such a quality and fun person to spend the day with! I am 100% going to recommend her to everyone I know! She also offers personalized private tours, and we will definitely plan another trip with her the next time we are in Maui!

Jill’s Journey Tours was great from start to finish! First, months ago when I first was looking at a trip to see the Road to Hana, Jill immediately contacted me personally to answer all of my questions. We had an overnight in Maui on the cruise ship so decided to do the private excursion with Jill’s company! I was a bit anxious about pick up points, etc but she laid my mind to rest quickly! Then contact leading up to our trip was great and we felt comfortable working with them! The trip itself: Shannon, our amazing guide for the day, contacted us the day before with her suggestions for the day and to ask us if There was anything we specifically wanted to do. My husband, Steve is an avid pickleball player, and he voiced his desire to play pickleball while we were in Maui. Shannon looked up local pickleball courts that had open play in the morning and let us know that it was not far the opposite way if we wanted to go before our trip or we could take a very short uber the next day— our choice! We opted for waiting as we had so many things we wanted to see that day. At no time did we feel rushed- and having our personal guide we soon became “family” for the Day! Shannon met us at our meet up point by Momona Bakery as they are not allowed to pick up by the pier. It was a hot but easy walk- through the exit path set up by cruise port then just to the next light— we found her easily! Shannon greeted us with a hug and we were off! The drive on the road to Hana was breathtaking! It was amazing how beautiful it was having the top to “Sassy”, our silver Bronco, down while we traveled the winding road! Shannon’s driving was impeccable and we were very happy to let her take on this daunting task! She told many tales of the city, people, culture, and flora along the way. We stopped first at the waterfall where we were able to swim & enjoy the sparkling cold water. I was a bit anxious walking on the rocks so Shannon helped by holding my hand- it never felt awkward- she just kindly saw the need and stepped in! She took pictures for us ( worth it right there— how often do you get pictures when you are a couple traveling solo?). Shannon understood immediately my thrill to See the igneous (Volcanic )rock after teaching this subject in science my entire life! It was just amazing to me! One of Shannon’s other job was a florist so She Could tell us of stories of the flowers also! I learned about shampoo flower-awapuhi, the Naupaka flower- hawaiin princess fell in love with a fisherman but was forbidden so tore the naupakafllwer in half and each kept half— now flowers grow only as half, bamboo, eucalyptus, Hi plant that wards off evil spirits, as well as others! We continued on and saw the Black sands beaches, red sands beaches, surfing, giant waves, Tarzan vines and other flora in the rain forest! We had a tremendous day with bright sunshine and no rain, stopped at a food truck “village” and got our food to go, then went on to a more secluded spot to eat, and splash a bit in the waves. Shannon took us to a more private beach with a shower so we could get into the ocean and play a while! Surf was high this day but it was fun to play around! Every part of this day was Taylor’s to meet our needs, met with light chatting, information about the island, Shannon, and us! She even knew our granddaughters would love Grandma to have a “mermaid” picture! The day was ours to stay or go when we chose! Knowing I love the Volcanic rock formations, Shannon took us to An extra cove that had unbelievable formations as well as extremely high swells! It was amazing to See! The road back down Hana included stops at Hana Farms Roadside stand for the famous banana bread & bananas! DONT JUST BUY ONE LOAF or ONE banana - it isn’t enough! I’ve never tasted a sweeter banana! I’m pretty sure it ruined me for life! The banana bread made from those tiny, sweet, green bananas was absolutely delicious! They were cooking pizza that smelled heavenly! I’d go back to try it! Everyone at Hana Farms was great! We snacked on our bread & bananas the rest of the way down the road to Hana! Our last stop would have been our first in the morning but we had postponed it due to a surfing competition that had been going on! It was worth the wait- to see a beach full of sea turtles soaking up the sun on the black lava rock- such an extraordinary sight! Soon our trip came to a close as Shannon was able to drive us right up to the cruise ship to drop us off! Was the trip pricey, yes! But by comparison, less than a group tour & worth every penny as it allowed for the day to be ours with our amazing new “family” member, Shannon! Thank you Jill for realizing how amazing having an open air vehicle on this trip would be! Thank you Shannon for just being you!

An amazing tour enriched by our guide who is clearly very knowledgeable and passionate about the island. By the end of our day we had a real feeling for what is a magical part of the world. I would have no hesitation in recommending this tour if you are looking to get an authentic feel for Maui.

Great time, great to have someone that knows the road to drive for us. Malia was very informative and knew which waterfalls to stop at. We swam in two different falls. We stopped at the black sand, and red sand beaches. We completely recommend this if you are thinking of seeing the road to Hana!!

Absorbing the incredible beauty of Mother Nature Locations where old lava flows meet the ocean were breathtaking

This trip was absolutely amazing! Shannon our tour guide was amazing and we even were able to learn from her trainee. The road to Hana is pretty wild so having someone drive and take control was perfect. We were able to go to multiple beaches, see waterfalls and sea turtles. This trip exceeded our expectations. We were thinking we would just have a drive to Hana, we didn't realize all the wonderful places that were hidden along the way that only locals would know about. The only downside and this had nothing to do with the tour is that the road is very windy and if you are prone to carsickness it may affect you, so be prepared with dramamine or something else to help with motion sickness. I wish I had more time on the island and could have done this tour or any other tour with this guide more than once.

Completely personalized trip; we went with JJ and she was amazing. We saw and did everything we wanted to. We had plans for the evening and she helped in ensuring we were back in time, but still experiencing all we wanted. The ride was smooth, ac, top down, whatever we wanted. I would recommend this trip 100% so that your able to do all you want without being restricted by other within the a multi group trip.

Our family had a wonderful experience with Jill & Daniel on the Road to Hana! Our pictures were amazing! We got to see so many unique things such as bamboo forests, rainbow eucalyptus trees, beautiful waterfalls, lava rock formations, turtle beach, the town of Hana and more! We enjoyed some Huli Huli chicken and coconut ice cream! Jill & Daniel were so accommodating and patient. They constantly offered a variety of drinks & snacks throughout the day. The views were amazing all along our journey and five stops on our half way to Hana adventure. Our tour guide allowed us to enjoy the sun and wind in the convertable bronco, explained island history, and was knowledgable about local animals and plants, all along our tour. We saw beautiful beaches, green turtles, and drank from fresh coconuts Our guide swam with us at Ho'okipa Beach and private waterfalls, and was our personal photographer and videotographer as well. This tour is one of the most memorable travel experiences my husband and I have ever had! JJ was so friendly, knowledgeable and hospitable. She provided snacks, drinks and towels as well as a fun commentary about the island. She customized the tour for us so that we stopped in the places we wanted to see. We never felt rushed and had plenty of time to explore what makes the road to Hana so beautiful. We ate an incredible lunch at some food trucks. She even took us on the full loop around the other side of the island so we were able to see some incredible lookouts and hidden waterfalls where other tourists were not. It felt like we had the island to ourselves! It made a huge difference to be in the convertible, because we were able to see all of the gorgeous foliage and jungle around us. The trip was SO amazing!! I went with Mar who was absolutely incredible. We saw turtles, swam in waterfalls, ate local food, and did some nice nature walks. The views throughout were incredible. Mar was the absolute best guide, she was knowledgeable about flora, fauna, and all things Hawaii. I was glad to have someone local show me around to avoid tourist traps versus going alone and self driving. I left with not only great memories and pictures (thanks, Mar!), but a friend as well. She stopped at the popular spots we wanted to go to, added in some hidden spots and made it fun the whole way. She was laid back, easy to work with and her car is comfy and super fun. The convertible is a must for the Road to Hana! She is super customer focused and thought of everything—from drinks to snacks and she even had extra hats for my daughter and I plus gave up her Tevas so my son could climb around on the waterfalls! She provided great conversation and info about Maui and even gave great recommendations for the rest of our trip to Maui. What a great way to experience the Road to Hana! JJ was able to pull off a tour that was fun for everyone in our family. We have two teenagers, and she customized it to include something for each plus fun for us parent, too, stopped at the great spots we wanted to, added some great hidden spots, and made it a blast along the way. JJ is easy to work with, super laid back, her car is very comfy and fun (the convertible top is a must-do for this excursion!), and she thought of everything! She even provided hats for my daughter and I (because we forgot ours) and loaned our son her Teva shoes so he could hike the waterfalls. She took photos for us and was a blast! She was super accommodating every step of the way. She hand-picked some truly magical spots and took customer service to the next level with drinks and snacks and great conversation full of tons of information about Maui and The Road to Hana as well as some great recommend the rest of our trip! 10/10 recommend! We went on this tour with Mar! She was amazing and knew all the best spots for photos/to see the view. She knew so much about the culture and all the plants and land around us. Would definitely recommend this tour to all! It is definitely worth it to be in the car and do a private tour as well.

We had the best experience with Mar our tour guide. She was so informative about Hawaii and especially the language and local nature of the islands. Having the convertible allowed us to view all the sites from every angle. We were able to stop at beautiful sites that the buses were not able to travel. Mar was very accommodating and made several stops along the tour to try out local venders with their chocolates and pizza. Mar is professional photographer and for an additional cost provided us with a beautiful photo shoot of our tour. We had a great experience.
