Today’s dive with Michael South was amazing! He is an exceptional dive master: patient, professional, knowledgeable, kind and committed to each diver having an extraordinary experience. The visibility today was great and we saw many different sea creatures. My highlight was the four juvenile eagle rays swimming in formation and several beautiful eels! Lots of wonderful turtles on the second dive. The entire experience was first rate and I highly recommend Extended Horizons!

Itinerary
Our guided night dive tour will show you a side of scuba diving that is exciting and fun. Many of the things we see at night are hard to find during the day. We can expect to see octopus, squid, and other molluscs. The small group size allows you to go slow and watch animal behavior that is not seen during the day and our bright dive lights allow you to take in all the action.

Extended Horizons never fails to impress and continues to be one of our favorite dive companies on Maui. We saw a ton of unique creatures on our twilight & night dive at mala ramp. Our dive instructor, Mica, was also extremely knowledgeable, understanding, and humorous. We will definitely be returning to Extended Horizons the next time we are on the island!
My first time night diving. Rachel took good care of us and and I loved the experience. 100% recommend.
Brad was great - super knowledgeable and friendly. He was patient, answered all of our questions and took great care of us. He was also super knowledgeable about the local wildlife - he identified all the notable fish, coral, and algae during our dives. Would highly recommend!
I took the night diver course and did 3 dives over 3 days. My teacher brad was extremely knowledgeable and informative. Will definitely dive with them again
Excellent service and friendly, helpful staff. We rented tanks, weights, and a dive flag, and we booked a guided twilight and night dive. The night dive was incredible. We saw mating octopuses (yes, that is the correct plural form of octopus), and we saw a cuttlefish that had just captured prey! Gabby, our guide, was incredibly thorough and knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
Excellent two tank twilight/night dive at Mala Pier. We got super lucky as there were only 2 of us who signed up for the shore dives. Philip (divemaster) was super personable, laid back, and competent. Saw very different critters at each dive time; it was totally worth it to do the twilight & the night dives. Saw 3 calm reef sharks starting to move around as the tend to do for their dinnertime, nudibranchs, slipper lobsters, bunch of eels, spanish dancer, spongecrabs. There is a bit of current that you need to kick a bit to get back to the beach, but Philip was right there coaching and his attention never strayed from us the entire dive. Very safe & very fun dives. This was a return trip for us with Extended Horizons. Thanks Philip!
I decided to book this night dive after I did a refresher course. I must say I was very anxious about my very first night dive, but my guides Bruce and Gaby really put me at ease. Night diving is so different from daylight diving. If you’re on the fence—go for it! I have a history of bailing on dives. But because of my awesome experiences doing the refresher dives and a successful night dive, I will continue diving and be more open to pushing my limits
Renting equipment here was seamless and easy. The staff was very friendly. When I had a change in plans they easily accommodated them and went above and beyond.
Erik and Rachel really went the extra mile for me. I needed one more specialty dive to complete my master diver certification. I live in Utah so my dive opportunities are limited. Because I was in Maui for a business conference I only had three nights that were available for night dives. Even though they didn’t have the dives I needed available, Erik worked me into Rachel’s very busy schedule. Rachel was awesome! She is very experienced, knowledgeable and thorough. I learned a lot from her instruction. I went from thinking night dives were “ok” to “I can’t wait to go on my next night dive!”.
We had already done a few scheduled dives with a different dive operator. Our sons really wanted to do some additional dives but Maui was slammed and everywhere was sold out. Extended Horizons was one of the few places that had a few open dives. We normally prefer boat dives but beggars can't be choosers. :) I was immediately impressed with Extended Horizons because of the fantastic communication during scheduling. The owner answered all of my questions and helped me choose dives based on our sons' diving experience. We decided on a two-tank sunset/night dive. The morning of our dives, the owner contacted us to say conditions were poor and reschedule us for a different day. Again, I was so impressed with the transparency AND pre-emptive actions of the owner. We decided to try again the next night but switched to only a night dive based on availability. When we arrived at the warehouse to get gear, Maiah made the whole process simple and efficient. We learned we were going to dive the pier b/c of conditions. We weren't thrilled b/c we had already done that dive in the daytime but were so glad the dive masters were relying on conditions to make the dive selection. My husband and I are experienced divers and have done soooo many poor dives in terrible conditions b/c dive operators just wanted to get us under the water and take the money. Extended Horizons was exactly the opposite. They are obviously a top-notch operation. Our night dive was good; the boys were thrilled with the nighttime experience. Maiah did an excellent job of taking care of us and making sure we saw everything we could. All in all -- we HIGHLY recommend Extended Horizons. They are a class act!
Fantastic time with this two tank day/night dive. The turtles were a site to see during the day but exploring the dive site after dark with all of the predators on the hunt is what makes this dive special. Will absolutely book again the next time in Maui.
Emma and Philip were AWESOME! They know the sites like the back of their hands. They were so patient and conscious of our well being from beginning to end. They are so incredibly knowledgeable in the aquatic life and of the world of scuba diving! Great sense of humor and very down to earth. I was so completely comfortable going out on both dives with them. They made sure to point out the sea life with total attentiveness. Making sure that we all were able to view the sea life in its natural habitat. AWESOME EXPERIENCE! Would dive with them again!
The reviews here are true, this company is AWESOME Night guides Chris and Phillip are incredible… extreme professionalism and knowledge—- highly highly recommend. —Kim and Dave, Santa Fe NM
Our dive master was awesome. Miah took care of all of the equipment and took special care when my wife stumbled exiting the surf. Having snorkeled Black Rock earlier in the day, the twilight two tank dive exceeded our expectations with a variety of eels, multiple turtle sightings, multiple crab sightings, a shark, octopus, shrimp and other sea life.
I went on twilight and night dives with Shelby and a couple of other guests. We went to Kahekili Beach just before sunset and went out for about 45-50 minutes at between 35 and 45 feet. We saw plenty of fish, some eels, an octopus, and even a ray off in the distance. We returned to the water after dark for another 45 minutes (25-30 feet) and got to see an array of sea life, including urchins, blood worms, the beady eyes of shrimp reflecting in the lights, and when we turned off the lights, some pretty cool bioluminescent critters darting all around us. Special thanks to Shelby for helping me with my awkwardness getting in and out (not a big fan of the shore dives!) and to Emma who helped me with my nitrox certification earlier in the day (didn't need the nitrox for this dive, but I wanted to get certified for next time).
I did a number of dives with Extend Horizons on our recent trip. I dove with Emma from shore in Maui and in Lanai off the boat with Capt. Steven, Victoria and Shelby. All of them were focused on making it a terrific and safe experience. Dive briefings were thorough and their attention to detail was amazing. Their local knowledge and expertise let them point out different sea life that made the dive even more enjoyable. They even had a binder in the boat, full of pictures and details to show during our surface interval. I booked last minute and they were as friendly and accommodating on the phone before hand as they were when I arrived at the shop. Great operators to dive with!
Dive Instructor Dave was extremely knowledgeable about both diving and the local underwater life making the dive not only visually appealing, but educational. I’d highly recommend this night diving experience to all levels of divers!
Excellent. Our dive master was helpful, and knowledgable. We meet sleeping turtles, and lots of blue/white strip eles.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND EXTENDED HORIZONS. We did a 2-tank shore night dive with Emma, and had the most fun treasure-hunting for sea creatures! We saw tons of crustaceans of all sizes. Emma was very personable and fun to dive with! I went with my younger brother, and he said it was his favorite dive out of our entire Maui trip! Emma was thorough in making sure we had all of the gear set up and that we knew how to use the flashlights well. Would highly recommend a night dive with Emma!
We had a great time doing the twilight/night dive with Extended Horizons. Our dive master was very knowledgeable and made both dives enjoyable. We were able to see turtles, a barracuda, an octopus, and a lot of fish. Hopefully next time we will have time to get out to the cathedrals. We will definitely be diving with Extended Horizons the next time we are in Maui.
The best night dive ever! Dave was incredibly knowledgable and even was able to spot an octopus with him after I told him that was the reason why I was night diving. I repeated the experience for a second night dive and it was as incredible as the first one. Cant wait to go back!! Thank you Dave and Extended Horizons
Dream come true date with my 14 year old daughter last night with the turtles, eels, reef sharks and magnificent schools of tropical fish. We did a two tank shore twilight and night dive from Mala Pier. Accompanied by our super trusty, huge hearted fun loving scuba pro instructor, Corey. This was actually our 6th dive with Corey since we arrived in Maui. Our first was an intro dive which was SO much fun, we signed up with Extended Horizon’s for our Open Water PADI course and Corey lead the way for our educational journey in the beautiful Maui reefs. I had not been diving in 25 years, so I re-did my certification for a bonding experience with my daughter. Now we are scuba buddies for life and so grateful for this experience. We can’t wait to dive with Extended Horizon’s again. Maui’s diving is pure magic and you are in great hands with these pro’s.
Absolutely Incredible! I’ve gone diving with Extended Horizon the last few times I’ve come to Maui and have enjoyed everyone of them. Great crew and boat (uses biodiesel!) with fantastic dives. But, with COVID-19 I couldn’t go on the boat. They recommended a shore dive. I’ve always wanted to do Mahla Wharf, but it’s always been blown out when I’ve wanted to go. They said if it was good conditions they had a two tank dive consisting of a twilight dive and then a night dive. Wow! I met Dave at the dive shop and he had everything ready to go. He went over safety protocols including new ones for COVID requirements. We headed down to Mahla Wharf and went over what to expect. Dave went over what they had been seeing and a general route and the different things to expect. The twilight dive was incredible and I got a feel for the route with end of day light. I have never seen so many schools of fish and huge turtles everywhere! On the second dive Dave went over a couple of things and in we went. I didn’t think it could get better than the first dive. I was wrong. Stunning! We saw eels ( watched one get it’s dinner), frog fish, nudibranchs of all different types, squids creatures I’m still looking up! We even saw a Hawaiian Slipper Lobster! Dave had a great underwater writing slate and explained what we saw. Each dive was nearly an hour underwater but seemed like 15 minutes. Afterwards Dave went over all we saw in detail. Best dive I’ve ever done. I highly recommend this dive, Dave and Extended Horizon!
We had a great time getting our open water dives done with Cory, couldn’t have asked for a better instructor. This guy knows his stuff and we learned a lot. He knows the majority of the fish species and shares the knowledge. We will definitely be coming back.
Came to Maui for a nice COVID getaway and didn’t expect to go diving, but glad I did with this company. They paired me up with Emma and she gave me an amazing twilight and night dive at Black Rock. 5 star crew. Definitely coming back and diving with them again.
We did a 2 tank twilight and night shore dive at Black Rock with Dave on 10/22/20 and it was phenomenal! During the twilight dive we were able to see beautiful reef fish, turtles, lobsters, eels, and a shark! At night we saw more than I had expected, including more eels, shrimp, lobsters, nudibranchs, octopus, and more! Dave was very good at making us feel comfortable and pointed out so many great sea creatures, knowing where to look as well as super observant. With COVID procedures we kept our distance, and it was pretty much a private dive since my husband and I were the only ones diving! This was our 5th time diving with Extended Horizons and they never disappoint!
My wife and I had a fantastic 2 dives with Chris. It had been awhile since my wife's last dive and Chris was really helpful and we were enjoying the great sea life in no time. Mala pier and Black Rock were amazing dives. More turtles than you can ask for! Definitely dives to remember. Highly recommend Extended Horizons! Thanks again Chris!
I highly recommend this company. Great guides, great services, great equipment. Steven & Shelby were great with my 3 girls as they’re not certified. They really go over and above to accommodate. 20 out of 10 in my book.
I had an extra early in Maui and chose to reach out to Extended Horizons Scuba Diving - Excellent decision! Chris and team were welcoming, friendly, and made the experience memorable. Great equipment easy going team. I would highly recommend Extended Horizons! Thanks guys!
I have dove with extended horizon every time I come to Maui. I will not dive with any other company. There staff and equipment is top notch. Shelby was my latest guide and she knew every sea critter we came across plus pointed out ones we could not spot. I have dove the wreck dive and was the best dive I have done to date. If you pass on the opportunity to dive with extended horizon you would be sell yourself short of an amazing dive.
We saw all the marine life we aimed to see — sharks, octopus, sleeping parrotfish and turtles, eels, frog fish, and one beautiful mollusk we couldn’t even identify. Shelby was a great guide. I was worried we’d have to sit and twiddle our thumbs at their shop, but she had everything ready and we were in the water right as the sun went down. As it got darker, it got better and better. No muss and no fuss on either end. Just a fun 50 minute dive. We went to Mala Pier. Next time we come to Hawaii we will do a night dive at Black Rock. Great experience.
I highly recommend this company and their twilight/night shore dive. Definitely one of my best diving experiences. Thank you Shelby.
I did the night dive with Chris at Black Rock. He was a really nice guy, thoughtful, and went out of his way to help a diver who had a preexisting injury. The night dive itself was really fantastic, Chris was a great guide and he did a great job briefing us about what we might see, and then finding what we did see his books afterwards. I would highly recommend diving with Chris. I otherwise didn’t do any other dives with this company so cannot comment on them in general.
I'll be honest, the portion of the dive while the sun was still up was meh. However, the night dive was amazing. If you haven't done a night dive, go! Also, maybe bring a fluorescent light along too. As long as it's not harmful for the critters, I heard it's really cool and makes the coral look incredible.
Great night dive with Chris Dörr from Extended Horizons for me as a birthday gift. Super relaxed and outstanding performance by these guys. Love the fact that Eric goes the extra Mile to go full solar on the shop and bio diesel on the boat. Unfortunately the boat to Lanai was already fully booked this go around, but There will be a next time. Looking forward to it. Happy bubbles.
Awesome night dive at Black Rock with my son. We had Francoise as our guide and he was knowledgeable and a great dive guide for our trip. We planned the dive at the shop and headed over for an easy shore entry and drift dive around Black Rock. I highly recommend the dive based on variety of marine life visible at night (lobster, tons of eels, leaf fish, turtles, etc.) and we were even able to get some great bio luminescent activity when we turned the lights out under water. Excellent dive and dive guide!
Our family of 4 had an amazing time diving with Chris Doerr. He was great with the kids (10 and 12 year old certified divers) and was super helpful. We saw a ton of eels and lots of other fish and enjoyed the difference of diving at night. Extended Horizons provided great equipment including the best lights I've had for a night dive.
I did the twilight and night dive with Jennifer and Harmony, both are patron saints of our time. Let's just start off with the fact that Harmony had snacks between dives. You read that correctly folks, we had snacks, between shore dives, in Maui. #BLESSED Harmony did eat all the good Jolly Rancher flavors, so I considered taking off a star for that, but she more than made up for it with her impeccable diving acumen. We dove at Black Rock and got to experience the "washing machine" which isn't for the faint of heart. For our efforts though, we were rewarded with giant turtles, feeding eels, a little baby octopus, lobsters, and more for our efforts. Oh and a golf ball most importantly. Seriously though, Jennifer and Harmony were not only incredible divers, but incredible people. They made me seriously reconsider some of my life choices and were a joy to talk to during my time with them. Extended Horizons only hires the best and this was my second time diving with them in the last year. If you are thinking of booking with them, I'd highly recommend it!
Did night dive on Black Rock. Was absolutely awesome!! Dennis was our dive master and did a great job! We did a sunset dive prior and got into a pretty good rip current as we came around black rock and he was perfect and handled the situation without a hitch, navigating three different divers to get to shore without any issues. So on the actual night dive we went in the opposite direction heading north to avoid the rip current and it was just the most amazing dive! Conger eels galor! One even caught a fish right in front of us and then swam underneath. Lots of Conger eels, crabs, lobster, octupus, bioluminescents, you name it! Great dive company. I have done multiple dives with Extended Horizons --- I think 10 in all now, The only company I have done dives with in Maui. They are great!! Dennis was a great dive master!!
Absolutely incredibly Fabulous! so much to see! Johnny is incredible: only when getting home I did not realize I had not been diving for 4 years. (forgot dive book at home). fabulous Nudi's: think there was a new one! , spiny lobsters, conch, and so much more. Johnny is great at making anyone feel at ease, finds lots of cools stuff, and diving with him, he can make you calm in the cave or elsewhere! Great fun, and, as an old lady, I was impressed that Johnny's skills, and attitude, I did not use up much air, and saw tons, and he is a very calming, reassuring, funny, entertaining, knowledgable, etc, etc! Will ask for you Johnny when I am back in 2019! Thanks for a great dive! Zita.
Did four shore dives while I was visiting the island. The first two were morning dives with Frank. He was very professional and helpful with getting everything geared up and getting in and out of the water. Did two dives at Airplane Beach and showed me lots of interesting things during the dive. Then that evening I did the twilight/night dive with Johnny. While the currents and conditions didn't lend to being able to see a ton of creatures (something that is beyond anyone's control), he still made the dives enjoyable and still had a ton of fun. Would recommend diving with Extended Horizons if you get the chance.
Johnny was very professional, knowledgeable, informative and entertaining. Just like diving with an old buddy. Dive was excellent. Up close turtles and eels hunting.
Called to arrange a night dive off the beach for the next day. They made it happen and it was a really fun experience. Great equipment, patient discussion of the site and everything that we would see. Very personalized attention that will probably make them my go-to dive company whenever I’m in Maui.
Harmony was an excellent Dive Master and she helped ensure that I thoroughly enjoyed the first night dive of my 30+ years of diving experience. We did a late afternoon / dusk dive followed by a night dive at Black Rock. I was a last minute addition and there were only three of us plus Harmony. It was amazing how the dive site was transformed after dark and seeing numerous crabs, lobsters, sleeping turtles, and hunting eels was outstanding. We saw a crab eating a starfish and a large Undulated Morey Eel catch and swallow a large fish whole!
We recently did a night dive with Extended Horizons! We were able to see some amazing sea life and had a great time!
Dove with Harmony at Mala ramp. Very cool underwater structures from the broken pier; you can see turtles and fishes sleeping and many small night creatures. Even saw a white-tip shark for a few seconds. Totally recommend doing this dive.
We had gone out diving with another company first and didn't like the service, so my husband did a night dive with Extended Horizons. We had gone night snorkeling on our own several years ago and ran into a shark bigger than us, so I was out for this particular activity. My husband's diver instructor was uber cool, and went at a speed that let everyone look around and find cool stuff. His GoPro videos were awesome. They found all sorts of critters you just don't see during the day. His dive master ended up taking them to two different dive sites, which added a lot of variety. We're here for another week, and I'm pretty sure my husband will be doing a dive with these guys again. Seriously, I'm not sure I've seen a smile that big in a long time! He loved it!
The dive was great and the dive master was great and very helpful, making the dive a great experience. We were able to see a variety of aquatic life that is only visible at night.
We went out with Extended Horizon Scuba Oct. 21st to dive out at Cathedrals. We couldn't have been happier with the conditions! We even saw the first Humpback Whale of the Season. The whole crew were amazing, efficient, safe and very clear about all safety procedures. The dive masters were so much fun, so knowledgeable. Special thank you to Jessica our dive master, your the best!!! Angela Amarante
