We felt very safe and comfortable with Pilot Chris. The experience was very personalized, yet he also left the passengers lots of time to just relax, view, and reflect. The background music playlist was stellar! Can't wait for our next trip to try another tour, but, if it's your first time in Hawaii/Maui, this tour is very much worth the extra time! Highly recommend!

We’ve really enjoyed the beauty of what we saw. We got to see the tallest waterfall, the beautiful reef off of Molokai. Pete is a great tour guide. He didn’t get tired of my questions. I have a great video to keep the memories.
🚁🌈 My husband completely surprised our family with a Blue Hawaiian helicopter tour. I had secretly been looking at all those spectacular aerial photographs and videos of Maui thinking, I would LOVE to do that. But I didn’t dare ask. Let’s face it—a helicopter tour isn’t exactly the inexpensive line item on a family vacation budget. 😂 So when I discovered where we were going, I was thrilled. What followed turned into not only one of our favorite Maui adventures, but also an example of excellent customer service when travel plans don’t go perfectly. Safety Came First Apparently, unbeknownst to me, my husband had already dealt with a few changes to our reservation. Our original morning flight was moved to the afternoon because of a safety check. Then Blue Hawaiian suggested changing our flight to another day when conditions were expected to provide better views. Was that inconvenient? Sure. You’re on vacation. You’ve planned your days. Nobody gets excited about rearranging reservations. But here’s something I appreciated: I want my helicopter company to be overly cautious. If there is a safety concern, check the helicopter. If conditions aren’t going to provide the experience we’re paying for, tell us. I’ll rearrange my vacation. Blue Hawaiian also did something they absolutely didn’t have to do. To help compensate for the changes, they upgraded our family to a longer and more exclusive flight and included the video package so we’d have a recording of our experience. That’s how you turn a potentially frustrating situation into excellent customer service. And Then We Met Chris Our pilot, Chris, was wonderful. One thing I especially appreciated as a parent was that he didn’t talk around our children while entertaining the adults. He talked directly to them. He joked with them. He kept them involved. At the same time, he shared fascinating information about Maui’s geology, history and Hawaiian culture with all of us. It felt educational without ever feeling like a lecture. And then there were the rainbows. 🌈 Six Rainbows?! At some point we started counting. I believe we saw six rainbows during our flight. And these weren’t the little partial rainbows you occasionally see from the ground. From the helicopter we could see incredible full-spectrum, full-arch rainbows. Naturally, this resulted in discussions with the kids about leprechauns and pots of gold, which Chris happily played along with. 😂 Those are the silly little family moments you end up remembering years later. Maui Looks Completely Different From the Air This was what surprised me most. You can drive Maui. You can hike Maui. You can swim and snorkel Maui. But you don’t fully appreciate the scale and geography of this island until you see it from above. Suddenly you’re looking into valleys you can’t reach by road, seeing waterfalls tucked into enormous green mountainsides, following ridgelines toward the ocean and understanding how volcanic activity shaped the island beneath you. Places we’d spent hours driving around suddenly made sense geographically. And photographs simply don’t capture the scale of it. Yes, It’s Expensive Let’s address the elephant in the helicopter. This is a splurge. For a family, particularly, the price can make you hesitate. Having now done it, though, I would make different spending choices elsewhere on the vacation to afford this experience. Skip a few expensive cocktails. Pack lunch one day instead of eating at another restaurant. Choose a couple fewer smaller paid attractions. Because personally, I’d rather put that money toward one extraordinary experience that my family will still be talking about years from now. And this was one of those experiences. 🌺 Our Family Take Overall: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 Scenery: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 Customer service: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 Pilot/guide: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 Kid engagement: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 Value: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ 4/5 — expensive, but worth the splurge Memory factor: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐+ Would we do it again? Absolutely. If your Maui budget allows for one big-ticket experience, I would seriously consider making it a helicopter tour. And if your flight gets moved because of safety or weather conditions, don’t automatically view that as a negative. You’re about to climb into a helicopter and fly over mountains, valleys and the Pacific Ocean. You WANT the company willing to say, “Not today. Let’s give you a safer or better experience tomorrow.” For our family, Blue Hawaiian took what could have been a disappointing series of changes and turned it into one of the absolute highlights of our Maui vacation. And somewhere over Maui, apparently there are at least six pots of gold we still need to go back and find. 🌈😂🚁 🚁 And We Actually Landed! One of the unexpected highlights was landing in the middle of this incredible green Maui landscape. There is something slightly surreal about stepping out of a helicopter, looking around at rolling green mountains, clouds hanging over the ridges and realizing, How in the world did we get here? It also gave us a chance to get out, stretch our legs, take family pictures with the helicopter and simply absorb where we were. That little break made the experience feel much more like an adventure than simply an aerial sightseeing tour. Then we climbed back aboard and headed into some of the most dramatic scenery of the flight—towering green mountains, waterfalls seemingly dropping straight out of the clouds, and rainbows appearing over the ocean. Those are views you simply cannot get from a rental car.
After paying thousands of dollars for my family of 5 (3 adults and 2 kids), they gave the best seat to a 6th passenger who was friends with someone at Blue Hawaiian. Frankly, we had a better helo ride with Rainbow Helicopters on the big island. The pilot didn’t make the effort to show views to both the left and right side
Went today February 24th for the last flight around Maui and Molokai with the landing on the side of Haleakalā. Incredible experience, first time in a helicopter and we couldnt have been more stoked on it. Chris was a top notch pilot, smooth operator and a great tour guide along the ride. Favourite “excursion” I’ve done. If you can afford it I highly recommend it.
No other way to truly experience Maui and all the beauty it holds. Our pilot, Tim was very knowledgeable, friendly and funny. We saw whales, turtles and manta rays!
This was such a great tour and I recommend getting the video afterwards. It’s such a great way to relive the experience, take in the grand scenery and wildlife encounters, and learn more from the pilot’s outstanding narrative.
The helicopter tour was a lifetime GREAT experience. We had 6 passengers, a thorough orientation before takeoff, and an exceptional pilot who gave us so much great information we would have happily talked with him all day.
Wow wow wow! Absolutely loved this flight. Can’t say enough about the safety, the beautiful trip and our pilot Derrick. Not only did we get everything we anticipated but saw extraordinary things such as whales and waterfalls. Our pilot made sure everyone was comfortable with his manoeuvres etc. He was very knowledgeable and took the time to answer all our questions. I would love to do the Hana flight next and will definitely ask for Derrick!
Really great experience for all 4 of us. The Pilot “Pete” was great and informative. We say things that you can’t see any other way.
It was the most amazing trip we’ve ever been on! It was so professional, so beautiful and our Pilot, Marco had a great soundtrack and gave great information on the different areas. I highly recommend
My wife and I had a great time. Everything was top notch. Will definitely be back! Thanks to all involved!
I had high hopes for a memorable birthday celebration on August 20th, 2023, when I booked the Big Island Spectacular Tour for six people with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters. Unfortunately, circumstances beyond our control forced my wife, Maribel, to miss this event due to an emergency situation. In light of this unforeseen circumstance, I approached Blue Hawaiian Helicopters with a reasonable request – to reschedule the tour or receive credit for a future visit for my wife . To my dismay, their response was nothing short of appalling. The company exhibited a complete lack of empathy, an utter disregard for customer service, and an unwavering focus on their own financial gain. The celebration I had envisioned for my birthday was supposed to be a joyous and memorable occasion. I had hoped that Blue Hawaiian Helicopters, as a service provider in the hospitality industry, would comprehend the significance of accommodating such a reasonable request, especially during times of crisis. Instead, they chose to prioritize their bottom line over customer satisfaction. A successful business should be built on a foundation of not only profitability but also genuine care for its customers. Blue Hawaiian Helicopters, in this instance, failed miserably in both respects. I urge anyone considering their services to think twice, as this company's astonishing lack of empathy and refusal to assist customers in difficult situations can swiftly transform a potentially wonderful experience into a nightmare. My birthday celebration was marred by this disheartening experience, and I sincerely hope that this review serves as a warning to prospective customers. Furthermore, I implore Blue Hawaiian Helicopters to reflect on their approach to customer service and consider implementing the necessary improvements to ensure that others do not endure the same disheartening experience that I did.
Blue hawaiian helicopters Maui spectacular One of a kind experience to see Maui close and upfront. Views are unreal. Waterfalls, ocean, and best of all, descriptions of all, including history. Derek is an excellent pilot. There were six of us including Derek, my daughter and son in law paid extra to sit in front, along side pilot. Blue Hawaiian helicopter staff very courteous. None of us got motion sickness, but we did take Dramamine the nite before, and half of a dramamine the morning of. Thanks Derek! I will use Blue Hawaiian helicopters on any of the islands that they fly again.
One of the highlights of our trip. The entire crew is very professional with safety as #1. Everything was easy as none of our family had been in a Helicopter before (the youngest being 9). The pilot was very interactive with everyone. Being able to land and walk around was great. Note: you really need to wear black since the window reflections in my photos are very evident.
It was a top notch outfit. The pilot was great. The weather was pretty below average. Should have waited for a sunny day. Our landing was cancelled due to clouds but we were reimbursed a portion of our trip. Felt very safe the whole time.
This was one of two flights we took during our stay in Maui. It was a perfect trip to see places from above and see the waterfalls from another perspective. Our pilot, Chris, was full of great stories and information. We paid to sit up front and it was well worth it!
